New Adult by Timothy Janosky is a refreshing dive into the complexities of post-college life, self-discovery and relationships. The story follows a group of young adults navigating the challenges of adulthood and offers a realistic portrayal of their struggles, dreams and insecurities. Janosky’s writing is witty, heartfelt and grounded with relatable characters who feel authentic in their imperfections. The pacing is steady but at times it could have explored the characters more deeply. Overall, New Adult is a well-crafted and thought-provoking read that will resonate with anyone figuring out life after school. A solid 4 stars.

This 13 Going on 30 romance did not disappoint. The character arcs are fantastic and the romance is so so sweet.

Nolan Baker is a struggling comedian living with his best friend in New York City. He is grappling with the pressure of his sister's upcoming wedding and the realization his dreams of being a famous comedian may be unlikely.
Ultimately, Nolan makes a selfish choice which leads to him experiencing his life 7 years in the future; a reality that isn't what he expected it to be. I loved the exploration of personal growth and the pursuit of happiness. It's a tumultuous journey, but one filled with grace, humor, and a slow burn friends to enemies to lovers trope.

There were so many things I enjoyed about NEW ADULT! It was funny and sweet, and really pulled at my heart, and made for such an enjoyable read after reading a few tearjerkers lately.
The story centers around Nolan Baker who aspires to be a comedian, and to be in a serious relationship by the time he turns 30. This gave me such 13 going on 30 vibes, and I loved it!
I listened to the audiobook format and really enjoyed the narration and would definitely recommend.

Embark on a journey where the sun-kissed beach and the cozy couch unite in the perfect blend of wit and warmth, creating a story that promises to make your smile grow with every turn of the page. Timothy Janovski's New Adult emerges as the shining star, a rom-com masterpiece that encapsulates the essence of comfort and delight, leaving you wrapped in joy.
In this fricken adorable and soft tale, the plot takes unexpected yet appreciated turns, reminiscent of the charm found in 13 Going On 30. The influence is noted, and by the time 30% unfolds, you'll find yourself hitting your stride in the narrative.
Witness the beauty of character evolution as Nolan, once not the best person, embarks on an arc towards becoming a ~better~ version of himself. Janovsky skillfully treads the fine line, allowing Nolan's past mistakes to shape a compelling story without losing his fundamental essence. It's a tale of growth that resonates with the understanding that everyone can be a little selfish at times.
However, the intricacies of the company and crystals, serving as a metaphor for time travel, appear convoluted and confusing. The concept might have benefitted from a more laissez-faire approach, allowing readers to ride the wave without delving too deeply into the complexities. While the idea is interesting, there's a sense that more exploration could have enriched the narrative, making it feel a bit half-baked in its current state. Nevertheless, an intriguing journey awaits, blending adorable moments with a touch of confusion, creating a unique reading experience.

Liked much more than Matthew Prince. Cool time travel aspect that was unexpected. Nolan definitely started out as an awful person who only thought of himself. I was pretty pissed at his pre-time travel actions and how he couldn't even see how selfish he was. He grew on me but I liked Drew. Pre-time travel Drew and post-time travel Drew. Loved him.

Twenty-three-year-old Noah Baker wants to be a famous comedian in a serious relationship by the time he is 30. When his sister gets engaged, though, he decides it’s time to give up his comedy dream and to ask his best friend/longtime crush Drew to be his date to his sister’s wedding. During the wedding, he gets a call asking him to fill in last-second for a famous comedian. He nails his set, but he has disappointed his family and best friend. Noah makes a desperate wish to skip ahead to “the good part of his life” on some magic healing crystals he received as a wedding favor. When he wakes up, he is 30 years old and a successful comedian about to tape his first special, but none of his family or friends are talking to him. Unsure where else to turn, Noah tries to get Drew to stop hating him and help him figure out a way back to the night of his sister’s wedding. Will he find his way back or learn to make a life here?
I loved the movie 13 Going on 30, so I definitely had to pick up this book as soon as I read the description! The book has similar vibes while being its own distinct story and kept me entertained as I read it. Drew was my favorite character; I wish I could visit his bookstore! I liked watching Noah grow as a person and become someone who deserves Drew. I absolutely recommend checking out this rom com!
Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.

Oh Timothy Janovsky you've done it again. God this book made my heart full. It was funny, it was sweet, it was romantic and it had so much heart I couldn't keep from smiling. Nolan makes so so many mistakes but he grows so much within this book.
Nolan Baker is living life right on the cusp of his big break in New York city. Unfortunately, that big break happens to arrive at the worst possible moment on his sister's wedding day. After disappointing everyone he loves, including his roommate and crush Drew, he wishes ok magic healing crystals to skip to the good part and wakes up seven years in the future.
The book definitely has some 13 going on 30 vibes, although I think the time jump of 7 years works way more smoothly because while Nolan needs to mature, he's not actually a child. The book faces some tough questions of the cost of fame, love, and purpose.
Drew is charming and delightful and I just want another book of these two because as I mentioned above, heart = happy. I think Janovsky does a great job walking the line with the magic components of the book, which could come off as hokey but really click into place. Doop was brilliant, I laughed extensively at those pieces.
The book really delves into family dynamics, the good and the bad, and one relationship I really appreciated was between Nolan and his sister. Janovsky really captures the unintention gradual drift that can happen between siblings as they grow up.
Loved it, Bravo Timothy, phenomenal book yet again!

I really enjoyed this book! The author is very good at writing extremely flawed and borderline unlikeable characters that you somehow can’t help but root for. The story was fun and the romance had amazing chemistry. I am weak for friends to lovers specially if there was some sort of fall out in between, and the character growth for all the characters was very well done.

4.5 stars rounded up!
If you like 13 Going On 30, you will loooove this book! This story is so fun and nostalgic. The narration was fantastic.
Read if you enjoy:
-Friends-to-lovers
-2nd chance
-comedy/stand-up

This was a fun read that kept me hooked, even while I sometimes had to suspend some disbelief. I have now read all three of Timothy Janovsky's books and this is by far the best one yet. I can totally see how his writing (and the editing) has grown and improved from book to book. (Even the narration felt stronger.) Although there is a lot of internal dialogue, the narration, first person POV and pacing make it work and not feel too expository.
This book still read to me a little more like a screenplay than a book (like the author's previous books) but there was considerably more depth and character development for the main character (and, to an extent, some of the secondary characters). The introduction of some magic worked for me, although the origin/motive of the magic was a little sketchy (see: suspending disbelief.)
Interestingly, I wasn't totally sure how I wanted it to end. I'm still not sure the author picked the path I would have liked best but I actually think it adds to the book's charm and depth that there were multiple viable options.
If you've enjoyed the author's previous books, I think you'll enjoy this one and if you are new to the author, this is his strongest effort and a good place to start.

3.5 * rounding up to 4
I'm fairly certain that Timothy Janovsky is going to turn into one of my favorite authors. This was a near DNF with the slow burn/slow start. I'm not a big fan of the slow start. I'm quick to DNF if I lose interest. but the book as a whole made it worth it.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the third book by Timothy Janovsky that I have read and I'm officially a huge fan! Like his previous novels in this series, this book had wonderful characters and lots of humor. This story is quite different in that it is a time hop story of sorts but I found that to be a refreshing change of pace for me. If you are on the fence about these books I want to encourage you to grab one and try it out. These books aren't really closely linked and can be read out of order.

Timothy Janovsky has become an instant read author for me, and New Adult was a book I was very excited to read. A time jump, second chance romance, in true Janovsky style the characters are all loveable from the two main love interests (I would take a bullet for Drew) to Cece and her family in the future. The general storyline isn’t particularly innovative, but Janovskys wit and ability to make even the least likeable (Nolan) characters enjoyable to read sets it apart from the crowd

Actual Rating 3.5
Self-centered Nolan Baker catches a glimpse of his future through the power of crystals in this charming Achillean novel by Timothy Janovsky. I have not read the other books in the series and this made sense so I think all the books can be read independently.
I flew through this book. I was vibing throughout the entire experience and just enjoyed the prose, the narration, and the story. Nolan is annoying AF but he was meant to be so. I enjoyed his character arc and his journey for self discovery in realizing how he had completely alienated everyone in his life in his quest for stardom.
I do wish the love interest's personality was developed a bit more as we came into the novel already aware that Nolan liked him so I do feel like exploration into who he was and his motivations were a little bit stilted.
Nonetheless, if you're looking for a queer second chance romance with a hint of magical realism, definitely put this on your radar as I had a lot of fun reading this.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Wasn’t sure where this was going at first but I ended up really liking it!! It’s a really interesting blend of New Adult (lol, the genre/age range), contemporary romance, and magical realism/fantasy, kinda a little sci-fi?
I almost DNF’d in the beginning because I thought I was going to get second-hand performance anxiety since he’s a comedian with memory loss/is in the future, but DON’T WORRY he never has to perform or anything. Instead, this book is more about second chances, rediscovering your roots, and the deep bond of family. The romance was a little underdeveloped, but the characters grow into each other towards the end and had me swooning! Overall this was great, and I really liked the audiobook!!
🌈 Queer rep: gay main character, MM main pairing

I love stories centuring around character development, and this was no exception! I also think 13 Going on 30 is one of the best romantic comedies of all time, and New Adult was very similar. I liked the focus on what success really means and how important it is to not chase it so desperately that you neglect the people that matter most to you. If you're looking for an entirely original story, I wouldn't really recommend this, but if you're looking for something cute and fun, I definitely think you should pick this up!
Thank you Netgalley for providing a digital ARC.

A gay version of 13 going on 30, this story tells about Nolan Baker who is working and trying to get his comedy career off the ground so he can finally be put together enough to go for his dream guy (his best friend Drew). He is a little notorious for prioritizing his comedy above everyone else (including his partners). His sister’s wedding needs him to have a date and his boyfriend breaks up with him for being pretty selfish so he asks Drew. At his sister’s wedding he finally gets his big comedy break and in the process let’s down everyone he knows. With all his relationships down the drain he goes to sleep after using some magic crystals and wakes up in the future where he is a major comedian. But is it worth the fame if he is known for being kind of an a**hole and he has no real relationships with anyone in his life.
As a premise for the magic transformation for 13 going on 30, the weird corporation that makes things too good to be true is actually amazing. I love their weird products like the “go to sleep bitch” candle. Their strange meddling and hiring practices only make them more interesting.
But as a person who loves 13 going on 30, this warmed my queer little heart. I love people realizing that they don’t want to be the awful person they would be, and I love when people develop as a character by realizing how much their choices affect the future. It is really nice to see Nolan choose love and support and try his best to fix things, even if he never gets a redo.

This is a sweet, fun story, kinda similar to 13 going on 30. I loved Nolan and Drews relationship, showing how important friendship is a foundation to a relationship. Nolan certainly goes through the steps of realizing what's important in life, who deserves his attention and support and devotion. Drew is a sweetheart, being a a really good friend to Nolan at first, even when he doesn't reciprocate that friendship well. This story felt like such an emotional in retrospect, but I wasn't fully expecting it going in. Nolan realizing where he is lucky in life, and what hi priorities should be, and desperately wanting a chance to make it right again, left me very emotional. Overall, very sweet, loving story with some great messages of friendship, love, and kindness.
Thank you for the ARC!!!

I loved this book! It's fun, nostalgic, and full of tons of pop culture nuggets for millennials and gen x readers. I was rooting for the characters, even when they were making unlikable choices, and thought the time travel was done very well!
