Title: A Captivating Dive into Young Adulthood

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

"New Adult" by Timothy Janovsky is a thought-provoking exploration of the transitional phase between adolescence and full-fledged adulthood. The author's ability to delve into the intricacies of this pivotal period is commendable, offering readers a refreshing perspective on the challenges and triumphs faced by young adults.

Janovsky's character development is a standout feature of this book. The protagonists are relatable, flawed, and undergo substantial growth throughout the narrative. Their struggles, ambitions, and personal dilemmas are portrayed in a realistic and empathetic manner. This makes it easy for readers to connect with the characters and become emotionally invested in their journeys.

The plot is well-structured and maintains a steady pace, allowing the reader to become fully immersed in the story. The exploration of themes such as identity, relationships, and self-discovery adds depth to the narrative, making it more than just a coming-of-age tale. The author skillfully weaves in elements of romance, friendship, and personal growth, creating a multifaceted narrative that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish.

One aspect that sets "New Adult" apart is its authentic portrayal of young adult experiences. Janovsky doesn't shy away from addressing the complexities of this phase, including the challenges of navigating relationships, career aspirations, and the pursuit of personal fulfillment. This authenticity lends the story a genuine and relatable quality that many readers will appreciate.

While the book offers a rich and compelling narrative, there were moments where the pacing could have been slightly more dynamic. Some sections felt a bit drawn out, but this was a minor issue in an otherwise engaging read.

In conclusion, "New Adult" is a commendable addition to the genre. Timothy Janovsky's ability to capture the essence of young adulthood and the accompanying struggles is a testament to his storytelling prowess. This book is recommended for readers who appreciate realistic portrayals of the challenges faced by young adults on the brink of independence. It's a journey worth taking.

Nolan is a struggling stand up comedian with a dream to make it big…one day. He is self-absorbed and chooses his career (or future career) over his family, even skipping his sister’s wedding for a gig.

Drew is his roommate, who puts up with his chaotic life and dreams and *tries* to be the best wedding date he can be, even going so far as lying to Nolan’s family to cover for him as he sneaks off to the gig.

In Nolan’s goodie bag from the wedding, he finds crystals with a note, and gives it a whirl. He wakes up 7 years later in a penthouse apartment with a gorgeous man but doesn’t remember his life in between.

I loved the personal growth and reflection aspects.

Works as a standalone (that’s how I read it) but I’m excited to check out this author’s other books.

There will be no surprise that I was hella into this. I have liked all of the books by him so I knew it was going to be an easy read to me. I still loved Matthew Prince the best, but I think this was my second favorite. It was much heavier than I was expecting it to be.

Normally his books are hilarious. But this time it was more heavy than I thought. It showed Nolan and how selfish he was. He just wanted all the fame, but he didn’t account to the fact that he would do anything and run over everyone to get it. And I think that’s the lesson in this. What would you do to get what you think you deserve? Would you run over (or not even think about in this case) the people who love you? In this case he didn’t think he had anyone, but honestly, I don’t even think I could have done that. The way he left his sister’s wedding like that was some bull shit lol She hadn’t even said anything bad to him at the time.

The coolest thing about this was gems tho. I do wish the magic was explained a little more than just in the ending scene, but I do understand that he didn’t really understand what was happening his self. But I do wish they had told what the crystals were or something. But I also listened to the e-ARC, so maybe they did that in the final copy. They told the names of them, but I had to go look up what they were on my own. I think it would have given the story a little more depth if they had just put it in the story.

The romance in this was ADORABLE. To be honest I think I liked Drew better than the main character. He was the sweetest thing and I really thought he was realistic and a great love interest. Exactly what Nolan needed to bring him back to himself. He definitely needed someone to tell him the truth and I applauded Drew for doing that.

The narrator of this was also amazing. I've listened to him in other Janovsky books, so there was no surprise that I liked him. He did really well with all the different voices and he brought all the emotion forth through all the characters. I really enjoyed listening to him make this series his own.

This book was the cutest. I wonder if Janovsky had trouble writing this. Like I said it was the heaviest I remember from him. I would call it growth, but he’s written heavy things before. I just thought this one was crafted really well. I love this series, I hope there’s more.

I was so excited to snag and ALC for this new release! I have heard great things about this author, and after reading the synopsis I was all in!

In this boy-meets-boy romance, a handful of healing crystals are enough to make dreams come true. But be careful what you wish for—dreams are not always as dreamy as they may seem!

Nolan Baker has a seven year plan to become a famous comedian, but when he's given crystals that jump him ahead in time seven years, he learns that his dreams come without his best friend and family. Nolan has to figure out how to either find his way back in time or fix the mistakes another version of him created. It's a fun and emotional read about choices and second chances.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an audiobook ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, I enjoyed this book - it was nice to see Nolan recognise his issues and work to fix his relationships with his family and Drew. It was a fun read and was reminiscent of Suddenly 30.

Time travel books aren't my cup of tea but I was still curious to read this book because I like the author's work.
Unfortunately, this one was a miss for me. The MC was so self-absorbed that I think I would've liked to see him grow on his own without having to see the future and only then wanting to do better by his friends and family,
I did enjoy the nuances of the romance, how Drew couldn't bring himself to trust Nolan.
I would recommend it to people looking for a light fun read and who like time travel books.

Aweeee this one shaped up to be fricken adorable and soft! I wasn’t entirely certain where the plot was going, but as soon as 30% hit, I really hit my stride. The 13 Going On 30 influence was noted and definitely appreciated!

I love whenever a main character starts out as not the best person and the main part of the story is their arc to being a ~better~ person. It’s always a fine line of changing for the better but not losing who they fundamentally are, and Janovsky obviously understood this. Nolan messed up in the past, but he was a good person who just needed a bit of a wake-up call. We can all be selfish, so I never blamed him, but it was nice to see him grow up a bit.

I think the whole company/crystals thing to describe the time travel was a bit convoluted and confusing. Maybe it would’ve been better to just kinda let it ride lol. I just think there was more to dive into with that weird company so it felt a bit half-baked as is. Interesting! But confusing.

Can I please visit 831 Books?? I need it 😭 I’ll settle for being Imogen’s babysitter because damn she was cute!! Wait actually I’ll be Milkshake’s dog walker. I’m desperate here!!

As for the audiobook, I really enjoyed the production! The narrator did a wide variety of voices that all sounded natural. All in all, a really solid book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️*/5

*The sex scene(s) had pretty vague descriptions, but a little somethin somethin nonetheless.

Bonus Points: Tessa Dare and Taylor Swift references ✅

Thanks to NetGalley and Libro.fm for advanced listening copies! All opinions are honest and my own.

4.5 Stars for another wonderful Janovsky title!

Being marketed as a gay 13-going-on-30 was the perfect pitch for this as we follow our MC Nolan who makes some questionable choices and ends up thrown 7 years in to the future where he's dealing with the outcome and butterfly effect of those choices. Janovsky's writing is always really pleasant and enjoyable and I find the characters he creates to have a very relatable quality to them. This was an excellent story that played out with all the right notes of a romcom type movie!

Audiobook: The narration was perfect on this one. I really enjoy Mark Sanderlin's work and he never disappoints!

13 going on 30 with a twist!
Nolan wants to be a famous comedian, but so far he barely makes his own rent. So when a once in a lifetime opportunity arises at his sisters wedding if all things, he has to make an impossible decision. A decision that makes his whole family hate him, including his secret crush best friend/ roommate.
But what if he could simply move forward to his perfect life?

I really loved this book, Nolan is a very flawed MC who makes a lot of stupid rash decisions. His own drive for his goal of a perfect life makes him selfish and hurt other people without realising it.
The time traveling makes it all very interesting. I loved to see how sometimes the things we wish for aren’t always turning out to be perfect when we get them and how we can forget about what’s really important when being so focussed on one thing.
The romance was very sweet and I loved the demi rep.
I wished there was more of a story part with the actual timeline in the end, so we can see what Nolan and Drew’s actual relationship start is like.
But all in all I had a lot of fun with this and can’t wait to read his next book!

3.5/5⭐️

I liked this, it was a cute, fluffy read. I thought the couple in this was cute, but it wasn’t anything special to me. I also felt like there was too much before it got into the plot that was super unnecessary. I’d still recommend it but it wasn’t my favorite.

NEW ADULT was a really fun romance, with just a hint of a sci-fi, time travel twist.
It’s the first Timothy Janovsky book I’ve read (although listed as Boy Meets Boy #3, it’s completely readable as a standalone, and I didn’t even realise it was part of a series until I wrote this review) but I’ll be looking up more in the future.
Janovsky manages to take a protagonist who’s initially presented as being a bit of a dick, and actually crack that shell enough that you come to really care for him. (Although, I’d defend Nolan to the death, and say that I don’t think the ‘inciting dickery’ was actually mean-spirited, just poorly executed).
After ditching his sister’s wedding for a comedy gig, Nolan wakes up in 2030, seven years older and having blown just about every relationship he has, but having become a rich, famous comedian. I really liked seeing how the various people in Nolan’s life had developed in the missing years – how slow or small changes became stark in contrast.
The pacing of the action is good, and the world-building was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the lavish celebrity lifestyle Nolan falls into, as well as Drew’s cute bookshop, and the magic crystal treasure hunt. The magical element of the story is very minor, just a plot device to get Nolan were the story needs him to be, but I thought it was clever and made NEW ADULT just a little quirky and different to your average contemporary romance.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed NEW ADULT, which was a very impulsive ARC request for me, largely based on the cover and the comp titles. I’m excited to read more from Janovsky.
Audiobook: Mark Sanderlin does an excellent job. All the characters have distinct voices and their emotions come through the narration very well. It’s very subtle and, to be honest, not really something I made much note of, as I was wrapped up in the performance, which I feel is the sign of a good narrator

New Adult sucked me in pretty quickly and it was hard to put down! After loving You're A Mean One, Matthew Prince I was really excited for this one and did not disappoint. I thought the 13 Going on 30 plot was really fun and not one that I have personally read a lot so it felt very fresh to me. Timothy is great at writing characters who you find frustrating or annoying at first but then grow to love and root for. I loved seeing his relationship with his family evolve. I really liked the way this book handled sensitive topics.

I listened to this on audio and thought the narrator did a great job! It was the same audiobook narrator as Mathew Prince which I really liked.

I would definitely recommended this book to anyone wanting a fun queer love story especially if you like friends to lovers.

Nolan is 23 and his life is not at all where he wants it to be - he hasn’t achieved his dream of making it as a successful comedian, he’s secretly in love with his best friend, and he can barely even pay his bills. He’s ready to give it all up and let his dreams go until he gets the opportunity of a lifetime - the problem is, by taking this opportunity, he misses his sister’s wedding and messes up his chances with Drew. That night, he wishes on a set of “magical healing crystals” that he could just skip to the good part of life. When he wakes up the next morning, it’s seven years later, he is 30 years old and has the life he wanted, except none of his friends and family are speaking to him.

This was my favorite book in the Boy Meets Boy series and can be easily read as a standalone! I loved the 13 Going on 30 style premise and the growth we saw in Nolan from his 23 year old self to the end was incredible. While Nolan was incredibly frustrating at times, especially in the beginning, his love interest Drew was the sweetest cinnamon roll and I adored him. There were moments and themes that were much more serious and emotional, but the sweetness and the humor throughout made for a very heart-warming read.

I switched between audiobook and ebook and found myself loving Mark Sanderlin’s narration so much that the audio was my preferred format. He did a great job capturing Nolan’s personality and the audiobook was so good to listen to.

Thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for the advance copies.

This book i was completely unsure about. But I could not have expected the plot choices and it is the perfect way to get me into my fall and halloweeney mood. I think this book was written very well. I was not sure how I felt about it but I love their little love story and how the main character figures out what he truly wants after he does mess up. Cute, Classy LGBTQ read.

Nolan, a struggling comedian, plans to give up comedy for practical dreams. But when he gets a last-minute gig, he stands his best friend Drew and family up. But when he makes a wish on magical crystals to fast-forward his life he finds himself pushed to the future. He wakes up seven years later, successful but alone. To make amends, he seeks Drew's help, but Drew isn't the same person he once knew. Nolan must regain trust and friendship to win back his heart.

.Friends to lovers
.Time travel
.Second chance
.MM
.A touch of fantasy

I nearly considered giving up on this book at around 20%, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. Initially, Nolan's character grated on me, he came across as selfish, self-centred, and single-minded. However, that's precisely the point of this book. We embark on a journey with Nolan as he learns from his mistakes and seeks to make amends.

Drew, on the other hand, is a sweet and genuine cinnamon roll in every sense. He provides unwavering support even when Nolan doesn't deserve it.

The audiobook narrator did an excellent job in bringing the story to life.

This is a humorous, heartwarming, and fast-paced rom-com that gave me vibes similar to the movie '13 Going on 30'. However, it's not just a romance; it delves into themes of personal growth and recognizing one's own faults. It also explores family dynamics and how we can support each other through challenging times, all with a touch of fantasy added to the mix.

While this book is part of a series, you can easily dive into it without reading the previous two. I certainly didn't, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you're in the mood for something lighthearted that doesn't take itself too seriously, give this audiobook a listen. I believe you'll find it quite enjoyable.

Nolan is a twenty-three-year-old who wants to make it big as a standup comic all by the time he is thirty. His sister’s wedding is coming up and he needs a date. He ends up asking Drew, his roommate and crush to be his date for “practice.” But on the night of his sister's wedding and admitting his feelings for Drew he gets the call of a lifetime that could launch his career. The day after Nolan wakes up as a successful comedian at the age of 30. He will learn what happens after the choice he made of picking his career over family.

As I was listening to the audiobook of New Adult, I kept thinking this reminded me a lot of 13 Going on 30 and to some extent Click. Also, I did not know this was a part of a series when I requested this book, but this can be read as a standalone. When I went to Goodreads, I noticed I actually read the second book of the series: You’re a Mean One, Matthew Prince. I read that one in late November 2022 when decorating my Christmas tree and really loved it so it’s nice to see that I liked a previous book by the author and knowing I would most likely like it. I enjoyed the narrator as well.

I think New Adult is an interesting perspective of how when we are just setting out in our adult lives, we make these plans of what we hope to achieve by a certain age such as thirty. Then having decide what is more worth it our friends/family or taking opportunities to further our career (I know not everyone out there is like this). I liked how New Adult played into the theme of that plans do not go the way we always want them to, that it is okay to not hit our goals by a certain age, and to find balance between the different aspects of our lives.

Nolan definitely comes off super self-absorbed, full of himself, and very egocentric. He thinks he knows what is best for him and will not take advice from anyone because he thinks no one has his best interest in mind. As the story progresses, we see Nolan see his life of when he was 23 in a new perspective and what caused some repercussions of the choices, he made affect him 7 years later. His character growth arc is well done and very satisfying and I just love Drew and him together.

Timothy does such a great job breathing life into his characters and Mark Sanderlin, the narrator brings it even more to the next level. I love how Timothy can dive a bit more into serious undertones but used humor for comedic relief plus creates many heartfelt moments. Because of the humor, the rooting for Nolan to grow as a character and for Nolan and Drew to get together, and the heartfelt moments it makes you fall in love with this story. For me, this book pulled me in from the first chapter and never let me go. I was so engrossed and loved every second of it.

I think New Adult will appeal to many people and for fans of 13 Going on 30, Steven Rowley, and TJ Klune.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook

I've listened to the audiobooks of all 3 of Timothy Janovsky's Boy Meets Boy books, and this one is definitely my favourite of all of them! The main character is likeable, the concept is really fun and out there, and the connection the main character has with his family is great.

This is a fun queer retelling of the romcom "13 Going on 30", where a 23 year old aspiring-comedian gets into a fight with his family and best friend on his sister's wedding day, and gets teleported 7 years into the future to see what his life will be like if he continues on the same path. He then has to figure out a way back to his old life, and also make amends with the people he'd lost to become a famous comedian.

I really liked the author's choice to make the main character's dream job a comedian. I've definitely read a lot of books about people wanting to be famous actors, dancers, directors, journalists, models, etc, so making his dream be to be a famous comedian was a unique choice!

(spoilers ahead) The story also includes Nolan's father having Alzheimer's, which is a topic that always hits me hard because it's something my own family is currently living through. And I LOVE that the epilogue took place 7 years later in Nolan's fixed timeline, because if it hadn't that would have been my "I loved this book I just wish we'd gotten to see their life 7 years later now that Nolan fixed everything". The epilogue got a good cry out of me.

“New York is like that. Even the extraordinary places blend in because everything holds something extraordinary to someone here.”

Time travel is not my jam, so while this gay 13 going on 30/One Last Stop mash up missed the plot mark for me, it was still a very enjoyable story about figuring out what a truly important to you!
