I enjoyed this audiobook. It was fast paced and entertaining. The story was unique and suspenseful. I would have rated it higher if it was more believable though. I understand that it’s a fiction book but it was too far over the top.

A book where I spent half of it thinking that women need to stop writing books where women are gaslit by their husbands and made to believe they’re crazy, told that their feelings aren’t valid, and told that their obsession with something is directly related to postpartum depression or hormones.

A book where I was horrified by the premise and impressed that the author pulled it off. The twist was good! A few loose ends all told, but not important ones.

A book where I was reminded that female friendships can withstand ANYTHING if the right people are in them.

If you’re looking for all of those, this should be a hit for you!

The narrator of this audiobook is excellent!

Kiersten Modglin is an author I thoroughly enjoy reading, and her books are all quite similar with slight variations of characters/plots/premises. So if I need a psychological thriller, I can trust she will deliver!

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭 A newly married couple with a baby on the way move into a new neighborhood. The small town is quirky, and people tend to keep to themselves. But then, when THE LIST is posted in a grocery store, Jordyn needs to get to the bottom of what this list is. You guys, this book was DARK! I almost did not finish it. There were lots of deaths, (majority children) and it was really hard to read. I obviously needed to know who the murderer was, so I kept reading, and while I’m glad I finished it, I’m not sure I would recommend this book.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape media for the ALC of this book!

Thank you to NetGalley and the Dream Scape Media for this ARC opportunity!

Jordyn moves to the small town of Bates with her young son and husband, and quickly realizes it’s a very strange town- with many deaths- all from a list.

Jordyn makes it her mission to find out who is the murderer behind this horrible acts- and continues to find herself hitting a wall. In the end, the killer will surprise you. I liked the main character- I found her to be brave and persistent, and I feel the narrator did a great job and added to the entertainment of the story. I am taking off 1 star as I feel I guessed the killer before the end and feel there were a few holes in the story, though it was entertaining.

I will definitely continue to read more from this author!

Whew. This was one of the more intense K- Mod books and I completely ate it up.
I listened to the audiobook with only taking one, maybe two breaks. I just couldn’t stop!

This book is about a couple, Conner & Jordyn, who move to a strange town called Bates. Without giving too much away, Jordyn comes across a list, and trust me - you don’t want one of your family members to be on it. The book follows Jordyn, as well as the mystery person (“him”), who is doing all these bad things, and she will stop at nothing until she seeks him out and ends it. I was literally on my seat the whole time!

Thank you so much NetGalley and the Dreamscape team for letting me listen to this audio in exchange for an honest review. I will absolutely recommend this book! Narration was also five stars.

I need to start off by saying this book is about murdered children. Many of them. The description talks about a list of people who are murdered, hiding the fact that it is children (I obviously assumed it would be adults, as did most readers). I think this is very deceptive, since a lot of readers have a hard time with children dying, even in books. I know not everyone thinks there should be trigger warnings, but I think this one should be an obvious one.

Other than that, I liked it. It was a fast read. But if you're going to spend money on a book, you should know what to expect.

The List is similar to The Lottery: Every six months in a small town in South Carolina, a list of children is posted. One by one, those children die.

I was sucked right into this one. Who and why was someone doing this??? As the book continued, my interest did wane a bit… in true Kiersten Modglin fashion, there are some mind-blowing twists, but I felt like I needed to suspend my disbelief a bit too hard to full accept what had happened.

Fabulously written and carefully planned with murder, mystery, no hope drama. Twisted and psychotic - a must read if you like a good page turner. Audio book - great narrators!

Oh My Goodness!!! This was one of the absolute best books I’ve devoured in a long time!!! It was a true thriller, and presented in such a way that the reader will never ever guess the ending! Many times I attempted to unravel the many mysteries, but never succeeded. I have absolutely found a brand new absolutely favorite author! I’ll be seeking more of Kiersten Modglin’s work!

Thank you, Dreamscape Media and Netgalley, for this opportunity to read this story in exchange for an honest review.

I was so disappointed in this book as I usually love everything that Kiersten writes but this one was a DNF at 40%. I cannot connect with the characters nor do I want to read about children being murdered. Plain and simple. It just wasn't for me.

The premise of this one sounded interesting and I thought it was going to be like an updated version of The Lottery, but it is not! You have to drop all believability with this one as it just isn’t possible and then go along for the ride that is The List.

It has been available in e-book and physical copies for a while, but is new to the audiobook format as of August 22nd, and I received an alc. Once I received it, I found out that there are multiple narrators with one of them being Michael Crouch; I got excited as he is one of the narrators I am on the lookout for! His narration was a smaller role, but all three did a fantastic job! Jennifer Jill Araya gave us the voice of Jordyn and David Bendena also was fantastic as the villain!

Connor and Jordyn Atwood move to Bates not knowing about ‘the list’. Every 6 months a list comes out with six names on it… And those people die in the order of the list itself. Over time Jordyn becomes entangled in a web of ‘What’s going on’, ‘WHY is this happening’, ‘Why these names?’ and, ‘We must stop it!’. Other than that, I can’t say much about the story. The types of people on the list become apparent early on, and in others reviews the reviewer gives this away. But I do the most I can without giving spoilers in my reviews. The particular persons on the list could also be a trigger warning for some.

I was pulled into the story and what was going to happen! I became frustrated why no one does anything or why don’t people just leave? That gets answered. The who and why are answered as well in the last act, and remember… It’s just not plausible for this to happen in real life, so just go with it and enjoy the novel!

I really did enjoy this one. Many thanks to the publisher for granting me an alc to listen to and review!

Welp, this was another Kiersten Modglin novel that blew me away. Just like the last one I read, it was SO different from her typical thrillers and almost felt like a Colleen Hoover novel, so fans of her will really enjoy this. I feel like Kiersten's writing has gotten even more complex and emotional this year and I am SO here for it. Not only does she deliver fantastic thrillers, but she also manages to tear your heart apart in the process with a deeply emotional and complex themes. The List read more like a suspense novel and really built up the suspense until the very end. The undertone of tension and fear throughout the book really had me on the edge of my seat and questioning every character's motives. I did suspect the person at the bottom of it but definitely had doubts and surely didn't see the reasons behind it all coming. This came together really nicely at the end and I was left very satisfied. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

You might want to steer clear of the town of Bates, South Carolina, where prominently displayed on a bulletin board in the supermarket is a list of children's names. The list contained six names and within six months all those named are dead. That started ten years ago, but every six months, a new list appears and the same tragedies occur. Why in the world would any parent want to live there?

The town over the years supposedly has investigated this disastrous happening but the deaths have all been attributed to natural causes. (like hell it has!) You would have to be an utter MORON to believe such a thing and yet the people do, terrified over who or what might be the cause. This would be my sign to get out of town!

At any rate, unbeknownst to Connor and Jordyn Atwood, they buy their dream home, and move into town to a very frosty reception of the townsfolk. Jordyn is pregnant and becomes fearful as she learns of the cursed happenings. She after much struggling with her husband, her parents, and others, is able to enlist the help of other women who FINALLY decide to end this or die trying.

While this was definitely not a listen that I was hoping for, it did make me wonder how people could be so intimidated, how scared, how totally ridiculous allowing this to happen.

......and so you will see how many questions arise from this insane situation that the police nor others seem to see. What drugs are these people on? Seriously this was a downright ridiculous story, but every so often I indulge in the ridiculous, and here we are.

Thank you to NetGalley, and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to this bizarre story.

Excellent narration!! Mainly from Jordyn Atwoods point of view but loved the narrator for “Him”, very ominous and spooky sounding.

Story was fast paced, kept my interest and the end twist—-wow, crazy!!

The Atwood family moves to Bates to get out of the city and enjoy small town life, this town has secrets and a mysterious list that claims children of the town. The Atwood’s don’t know before moving to the town but can they figure it out in time to escape.

Thanks to Dreamscape audio and Netgalley for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Connor and Jordyn have just taken a huge step forward in their lives. They've moved to small town Bates, South Carolina for Connor's new job, purchased a beautiful new house and Jordyn is pregnant! However, what they believe to be an idyllic small town proves to be anything but. Soon after their move, children start dying. When Jordyn stumbles upon a list of 6 names -- all children who have died IN ORDER-- she realizes there is something sinister in Bates's past and present, and she's determined to uncover it.

This book had all the makings of a classic Kiersten Modglin -- fast paced, twisty and truly shocking. I really couldn't tell where this was going the whole time and was shocked when we arrived at the end. I don't think this was KMod's most well-developed plot -- there were a few moments towards the end that seemed rushed -- but, overall, this was a super fun read! I think it's hard to develop characters effectively in such a short book, but Jordyn grew as a character in some admirable ways. I always enjoy her books on audio because they move sooo fast and are impossible to put down; THE LIST was no different.

I enjoyed The List. It was fast-paced and thrilling, a very easy read, but it also felt familiar. It felt like a Ruth Ware book, just placed in the rural US instead of the UK. It followed Ware's typical storyline, all the way to the satisfying ending.

Here we have Jordan, a competent American woman who's a fish out of water and is discovering weird things going on. She is frantic to get someone to believe her, going to ludicrous extremes to get people in authority to understand the awful conspiracy she's figured out. It was all a bit ridiculous, but I still found it a compelling read. The reveal of whodunit was kind of predictable, but that was all right too.

Overall, this would make a good beach read. Don't think too hard about it and just enjoy the thrill.

This book was absolutely jaw dropping. I could not stop listening and the plot twist! I felt sick in the best way at the insane twist at the end but it made so much sense. I kept being so angry by how dismissive her husband was through the whole book and the twist made it make sense why.

Kiersten Modglin possesses an exquisite knack for crafting captivating psychological and domestic thrillers. With each turn of the page, you find yourself on the precipice of your seat, rapidly flipping through the narrative as life blurs around you. And then, with a stroke of narrative genius, she introduces a plot twist so audaciously clever that it seamlessly weaves together, leaving you utterly speechless.

In "The List," a couple's fervent desire to embrace a new life in a quaint town, far removed from the bustling city, sets the stage. However, what awaits them in Bates is far from the warm welcome they anticipated. As Jordyn becomes attuned to an unsettling undercurrent, she discovers a disconcerting pattern—a perplexingly high incidence of childhood fatalities linked to Bates. The unveiling of the ominous "doomed list" propels Jordyn into a mission to safeguard her own family and rescue the town from its ominous shadows.

While this may be my least favored among Modglin's literary works, it undeniably possesses an alluring charm. It's a challenge to form a strong bond with the characters, as Modglin expertly maintains a veil of detachment around them. The deliberate estrangement of every character hampers the reader's ability to truly connect, and the emotional resonance is somewhat compromised until the story's culmination.

Nonetheless, I remained thoroughly engrossed, hanging onto each word of the audiobook, eager to witness the unfolding of events and uncover the orchestrator behind the town's predicaments. True to form, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Modglin creation to my discerning audience. I extend my gratitude to the publisher for graciously providing an Advanced Listening Copy of this book, in exchange for an honest appraisal.

Fast paced/bingable audiobook! Enjoyed the narration. The storyline was very interesting with small town vibes but very cautious because every month a list is posted of who's going to die next. Multiple narrators. we even get a cool voice of "him" the one committing these murders. It kind of reminded me of His and Hers by Alice Feeney. This would be a book I'd recommend audio verse eyeball!

Very unique premise. Enjoyed the suspense but book was a little too long. A good thriller nonetheless.
