Connor and Jordyn Atwood are moving to Bates, South Carolina, for Connor’s new job. Right away, even before they move, you get the feeling that something is not quite right about the town of Bates.

That thing is a list. Every 6 months a list comes out with 6 names on it. Those 6 people are going to die. But why? The anonymous list maker is controlling their town and no one wants to talk about it. It seems like their every move is being monitored somehow. Even law enforcement has stopped investigating. It is a secret that no one seems to want to acknowledge.

This is a twisty book and very entertaining. It is dual POV. I enjoyed the POV of “him.” It kept me guessing the entire time.

The ending was SO satisfying! I loved it.

Thank you to Netgalley and of course, my favorite publisher, Dreamscape Media, for this ALC in exchange for an honest review.

The plot was a little far fetched and I am left slightly confused with a couple questions. However as always, it was a quick and bingeable ride and I will keep reading everything Kiersten Modglin writes! I commend this author for continuously picking great narrators for her books.

I’m working my way through all of the KMod books. Most of her stuff has domestic thriller vibes, which I love. This one still does but that isn’t the biggest theme here. This one has gaslighting, post partum depression, murdered children, etc. Be sure to check ALL trigger warnings before reading, as I may have left a couple out.

This one, I thought was like a fusion of The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street (Twilight Zone) and Wayward Pines (Blake Crouch). I love both concepts but I think this was my least fav KMod so far. That being said, I still really enjoyed it. I just prefer her domestic thriller style (The Arrangement Trilogy and The Missing Piece) best.

I think it was cool that she dipped out of her regular style to dive into something a little different though.

I guessed the mystery narrator pretty early on but that didn’t ruin anything because I wanted to know about motives regardless of whether I knew who the villain was.

Can’t wait to keep diving in the the backlog of KMod books.

Audio Narrator was great as always.

Imagine seeing a list of six names and then hearing that each person is killed from that list. When Jordyn first moves to the small town of Bates, she can't believe this has happened. Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery before her name appears on the list, she fights to save her new town.

Wow, this book was intense! I loved listening to the narration, which was masterfully done. What a shock the ending was too! If you like a creepy whodunnit, this one should be on your books.

I am grateful to have been given an ARC of this audiobook, and I was very excited at the prospect of listening to it. But, after two hours, this is an unfortunate DNF for me. It's incredibly rare for me not to finish a book, especially when it has been gifted to me, but this book is so filled with latent sexism and misogyny that I have given myself permission to let it go.

Jordyn, our protagonist, cannot explain what she sees, thinks, and feels in complete sentences. She apologizes for herself constantly. Her husband, Connor is straight from the 1950s, with belittling nicknames, and that kind of roll-your-eyes-aren't-women-so-cute-when-they're-not-in-the-throes-of-hysteria condescension that no one should be forced to stomach in 2023.

The List is a brilliant concept for a novel, but this was a true disappointment.

A hit from Modglin as always! This fast-paced thriller kept me on my toes the entire time. Nothing beats a book that has you feeling the emotions with the characters the whole time. I was mad, nervous, happy and all the things.

When Jordan and Connor are looking for a new home and find one in Bates South Carolina they’re surprised when the real estate agent tries to talk them out of moving there but eventually they find a home and settle in. While on a trip to the local grocery store Jordan sees a list of six names and when she sees a woman start crying she is shocked but when the woman tells her the little girl Kinlin her daughters name is on the list but Jordan is it been more confused when the woman tells her no her daughter is alive and well. It isn’t until a few days later when Jordan sees a little boy whose name was on the list drowned in the lake behind his home end it only gets worse slowly but surely everyone who was on the list including little Kinlin dies from an accidental something…? throughout the events she tries to explain to her husband Connor why these deaths do not seem accidental but the more she talks about it the more Connor seems to be concerned for her safety. He becomes so concerned he calls his in-laws to come and stay with Jordan and help her with baby Ali when Jordan goes to the latest funerals she sees Kinlin‘s mom Carrie tries to befriend her but her awkwardness and not knowing what to say fumbles the whole conversation. She eventually becomes friends with Carrie and learns that everyone in the little town is frightened of the list maker but when Jordan starts investigating every detail she could find she is amazed! It seems everyone in town thinks it’s a terrible thing that someone is killing their children but they are more than willing to assist with his agenda at least to keep their own child safe. when Jordan finds her self helping it will be the beginning of the end of the list maker. Who is the list maker though the answer was so surprising not only who it was but those who help Jordan solve it. This is the Kiersten Modglin I am used to it thriller writer that is above others in the genre I always told her to be a seller author and although lately have been very disappointed in some of our books I am happy to say she still is turning out great once the past two books have been awesome this is a definite five star mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. I want to thank Net Galley and dreamscape media for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

A town in South Carolina made its residents lose all their peace and live a life of constant fear. For the last 10 years, people have been dying, and if you don't want to, you better stay off the list and do as the killer bids.

The secret killings operation and the list of kids' names made this thriller very impressive. It had been a long time since a thriller actually thrilled me 😅. Female protagonist, buried cold cases and an unhinging series of murders that no one cares to investigate. Totally something one can binge-read. Not exactly in one sitting, but once you are in - YOU ARE IN!

There isn't a lot of clue-dropping throughout the story here, so it's not made that easy to guess the culprit, which works well for me as I don't like a too laid-out mystery. I read this in an Audiobook format, and the suspense music, the sound effects and the easily distinguishable voices of the narrators made a good team to create the right vibe.

Thank you @netgalley @kierstenmodglin and @dreamscape_media for the Audiobook.

Another compulsive read by Kiersten Modglin! This story was fast paced and the narrator did a great job. It follows Jordan who has newly moved into this small town and it was already fishy from the way none of the neighbours speak to each other and even the realtor wasn't keen on selling them the house. I liked the cast of characters and they were easily distinguishable from each other. Overall another great read from Kiersten Modglin, she is the author to go to when you're in a reading slump, you'll be hooked right from the first page.

I like this. It would be so creepy to be one of the people who ends up on the list.
I would probably leave the country after the first list came out though. Bye!

I love the Narrators.

Thank you for the ARC.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #DreamScapeMedia for the ARC of #TheList by #KierstenModglin. This book was very disturbing in a great way. Loved all the go around with all the people on the small town of Bates. You could feel the fear that everyone has and the extreme measure they went to. So surprised by the twisty ending.

A really neat concept a la The Hunger Games meets SAW for adults. I liked Jordan's character and had a very hard time stopping the book.

I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.

3/5

CW: child death

This book had an interesting concept. It kept me invested, but it didn’t really sink its teeth into me. It felt like they were just getting into the mystery of it and then all of a sudden it was resolved. If you’re looking for a quick mystery read, this could be a good one.

Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for an audio copy of The List by Kiersten Modglin.

This was fantastic! This is what I'm talking about when I say I love this author's books! Keep 'em coming.

The List- posted at various places with 6 names on the list, usually children. And we have a great heroine in this story!

This is a chilling and psychologically intense thriller that grips you from the very first page. Set in a narrative that feels eerily dystopian yet its addictive and disturbing. The author delivers a story that delves deep into the complexities of human behavior and the darkness that can lurk beneath seemingly ordinary lives.

The audiobook, narrated by Jennifer Jill Araya, David Bendena, and Michael Crouch. Their voices bring life to the characters, enhancing the immersive experience. Each narrator skillfully portrays the distinct personalities of the characters they voice, amplifying the emotional depth of the story.

I would recommend checking for TW as some descriptions can be a bit disturbing for some readers.

A very special thanks to Negalley and Dreamscape Media for the complimentary copy.

3.5 stars rounded up

This was a tricky one to rate! It’s definitely not for everyone, check the trigger warnings beforehand. I thought the premise was super interesting and I did not guess who was behind it and why. I do think you have to suspend belief somewhat - there are a lot of logistical questions I have that went unanswered. That said, I couldn’t put it down and was completely invested in it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I know people that love a good list… this is not that kind of list. You don’t want to be anywhere near this list. Get away from the city and buy a home with a bit more space sounds like an amazing opportunity, until you find out you can never leave. KMod had me sucked into this one - are parts implausible? Maybe. But it makes for a fantastic thriller. Buckle up for this one folks, add it to YOUR list and hang on for quite the thrill! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this one.

I enjoyed the narration of this one. The back and forth between the voices flowed well together and the HIM was just enough creepy that I loved getting to his parts. Bravo!

ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.

The three narrators did a wonderful job with this book! All the characters voices were clear and it was an easy listen. I really liked all the mystery surrounding the entire town in the book! I can honestly say that I didn’t know how everything would turn out until the very end! The characters are very well developed, with backstories that make the whole story complete. If you like psychological thrillers you need to pick up this book!

The premise of this book was very unrealistic. Once you get past that piece of it, it was a decent book. What I found lacking in the plot line was made up for by the narration of the audiobook. The narration was fantastic and it was fun to listen to.
