This is my second book by Kiersten Modglin and I am officially obsessed. Both books had unique storylines and were very different from each other. I look forward to reading more by her!

I was hooked from the get go. The narrators did a good job. Even though the audio book wasn’t particularly long, I thought there was good character exposition - I had a pretty good sense of who they were. I really enjoyed Jordan’s sister - I would read an entire series based on her exploits!

You’ll need to suspend your disbelief in how this has been happening for so long in the town, but that never bothers me. The twist was interesting, and made sense, though I didn’t figure it out until the author started dropping heavy hints right before the revelation.

I thought this was a unique storyline. Their book kept pace throughout (I’m not a slow burn fan) and I really enjoyed the different characters. It was a light read that I got though quickly. I would rate this 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an audio copy of The List which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I always love Kierstens books! They are quick, thrilling and exciting. This one was no different. The premise and plot were great. I would definitely get your hands on this book for a great read! A 5 star read!!

What a crazy story! I wouldn’t say that it was amazing or well done it definitely left me with more questions than answers. Seemed really far fetched but also terrifying if this was something that could happen.

My head hurts. I listened to this audio arc, The List, knowing that Kiersten Modglin has written 39 books in the past 7 years, and, sadly, this novel is the reminder that not every thought needs to become a book. The entire plot was so implausible, that even in the world of fiction, where reality sometimes must be suspended, there is no amount of gymnastics my mind could perform to believe any of the storyline.

In short, in a small South Carolina town, there is a list which appears every 6 months showing the names of those who will soon die. Here is where I am angry at the description from the publisher:

"Ten years ago, the small town of Bates, South Carolina, was changed forever with the appearance of a slip of paper. Six names. Six people set to die. Six months later, they were gone. But the list maker was far from done with their town.

Like clockwork, new lists come out every six months. To keep their names off of them, the citizens go to extraordinary lengths and keep terrifying secrets. Someone is controlling their town. But who? And, most importantly, why?"

Trigger warning - notice the use of the word "people" - people die. People don't die - children die. Babies die. Murdered. Made to look like accidents. I just listened to 7 hours of kids being killed. And, to add insult to injury, the people in the town don't try to stop him/her/them. They just accept that the list comes out, kids die, and life goes on. Until one day the big bad heroine moves to town and begins to "investigate."

It felt like I was watching the very worst of a Lifetime movie which I would have turned off within the first half hour.

Modglin is incredibly talented and has created a huge following. Her fans are in love with her. If you are part of the KMod group, and interact with her on social media, you rate all her books a 5. I have read a bunch of her work, and this one, her second book written in 2016, is not one I could recommend. Her writing has improved over the last 7 years, but the money is in the KMod name, so now her older stuff is getting a second life. Whether it should or not.

I am rating this 2 versus 1 simply because I am in awe that an author can write so many book in so few years and make a living cleverly using the power of social media. That's pretty genius.

Kiersten Modglin could write a grocery list and I’d read it! She does twists like no other leaving you guessing until the very last word. This book did not disappoint and the audio was impeccable!
