just finished the excerpt and it was very intriguing. seems like a very interesting story with a grumpy/sunshine trope told mainly from the MC’s POV!

This was not my favorite. I felt the male main character difficult to like which made it difficult to root for the relationship.

I really enjoyed this romantic tale: it is sweet, uncomplicated and the protagonist very much reminded me of Harvey from Suits! No bad thing, his ways are undeniably self-centred and thinking with his trousers, I liked how terrible and good Drew was all at once.

Not only does the character remind me of a television show, but I loved Carter’s reference to it. Even with the scotch consumption and Drew’s secretary, Sarah, all I could think of was the Suits links. Yet, when Drew meets Becky in a queue for a breakfast bagel, his behaviours start to change. No longer is he driven by bedding beautiful women and happily having just one-night stands, the connection he finds with Becky distracts him because it is like coming home. Becky offers security, warmth and a genuine relationship that Drew knows he has never felt before. But does she feel the same?

What was refreshing about this story is that readers do not get much of an insight into how Becky is feeling. There are only a handful of chapters from her perspective and these mostly provide the background to how “British Becky” ends up working in New York. As such, I was as perplexed as Drew and, despite his arrogance, even he cannot be completely certain that the obsessive feelings he has for this girl are even returned, particularly as Becky emphasised how much she was not looking for a long-term relationship.

I really enjoyed this element of the story, finding it unusual to know so much about the male character and so little about the love interest. Furthermore, I found Becky’s background to be surprising, especially towards the end. The relationship between the two characters is a sweet, slow-burner and I appreciated seeing them get to know each other better, rather than just the physical side of the relationship (although Drew is easily distracted by thoughts of this).

It is not a racy, graphic novel, but with enough suggestions to know what the characters are feeling. There were no characters I especially disliked and I delighted in mix of romance with being an upshot lawyer in New York. Drew is described in a way that will get most readers’ hearts racing and he definitely had character appeal! I hope the rest of the series is just as good as this one, giving me the escapism I really needed.

With thanks to Boldwood books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Don't really know what I was expecting. When I started to read it kind of grabbed my attention in the beginning, I thought these two may be a fun read. According to the description it was "a laugh-out-loud" romcom. There was very little funny about it, it dragged on,same old, I kept waiting for it to improve,it never did.

Becky Fletcher, a talented pastry chef running from her regret-laden past, finds herself in New York, determined to live life to the fullest. As she works through her bucket list, fate introduces her to Drew Harrington, a successful but uptight attorney. Despite their differences, a friendship blossoms, leading to unexpected feelings. Drew, accustomed to his kick-ass life, is captivated by Becky's charm and culinary skills. The attraction intensifies, but Becky is hesitant due to past relationship trauma. The irresistible pull between them creates intense tension, and as Drew falls hard, Becky grapples with unveiling her hidden baggage from the past. This chick lit offers a cute, fast-paced narrative with sweet and efficient dialogue. The instant and provocative connection between Drew and Becky keeps readers glued to their seats, making it an engaging story of love, past secrets, and the journey to unpacking emotional baggage.

// thank you to the publishers and net galley for giving me an earlier access arc to this book!

i was actually pleasantly surprised by this one! this book is a lot deeper than i was expecting it to be--our 'sunshine' main character gets a pretty intense backstory that we only really learn of towards the end, which certainly kept the book exciting and unpredictable until the very end. it really gave her character some depth, and explored interesting themes (which is all i can say without saying too much 🙃).

i also really liked the male main character. it was an fun and interesting choice to have the majority of the book narrated from his pov, and his narration certainly made the premise and the attraction between the two characters seem very believable. it was a nice change compared to traditional romance books! i also really enjoyed the conflict our male main character goes through, and the discussion about what success means and whether you have to leave behind your past to achieve great things was actually really appreciated!

overall a cute little addictive romance and i highly recommend to anyone looking for a good grumpy/sunshine romance that doesn't feel too trope-heavy or unrealistic!

This is one of those delicious little stories that you just want to curl up with and kick back. I mean seriously...I wish I had a week to read this one slowly from cover to cover in order to indulge in the humor tinged love and life story within. Did I take that long? Alas, no.... my schedule wouldn't allow that, but I did enjoy my time between the epages for the overall tale, but especially the characters!

Becky and Drew...
She's a transplant from merry old London, but whether running away from or towards something remains to be seen. He's a high powered attorney, making his way through each day with nary a smile or laugh, as he works the high powered legal proceedings on his way to the top. Together, they probably would be happy, but apart drives both of their hearts to the brink. I loved them for who they were and how they were with each other. The feelings they shared were startling for each of them, but felt wonderfully right to the rest of us. Though secrets threaten to stall whatever may be growing been them, as long as there's hope, love will find a way.

All in all, a great read for Romcom fans and the start to what sounds like a fabulous series!

Cute and quirky! A fun romance that I easily devoured! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book.

Rough around the edges Drew is tamed by the sweet and bubbly Becky. Cute story about how she breaks down his tough exterior and ends up winning him over, but told from the (mostly) POV of Drew. We hardly see Becky’s POV in this story, which is a shame. There’s also some REALLY heavy topics in this book that aren’t mentioned anywhere, and while they don’t trigger me too much, it could other readers! So beware! Overall - a decently written book with some plus and minus in the plot, but I’d recommend it. Thanks for the opportunity to read!

“The Law of Attraction” is a cute rom-com told from both of the MC’s POVs. The story will have you rooting for the characters from the get go.

It was a quick read and made me want to read more of Laura Carter’s work.

Thank you Laura Carter, NetGalley, and BoldwoodBooks for this ARC. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

A male pov character in a room com style. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.

A Hotshot Manhattan Attorney. A Sweetheart of a British Patisserie Chef. One fateful meeting at a bagel cart.

They sound like a match made in heaven—or is it a car crash?

This book was unexpected. I picked this thinking it would be playful and fun and romantic (it was), but it was also serious and real. It tackled miscarriages and abuse while also playing on classic romance tropes. It really gave the book depth.

I realized after reading that this is one in an upcoming series. It is safe to say that I am excited to read more from Laura Carter if her writing continues to be anything like The Law of Attraction!

This book was...not what I was expecting/what I was sold with the cutesy cover and blurb. First, it's almost entirely a single POV, and not a back & forth romance. Second, the attraction for Drew felt like insta-love, and it wasn't given anything much to substantiate and develop it throughout. It wasn't just lust, it wasn't just feelings - it was a weird in-between that just didn't click nor did it really make sense for this character who is the epitome of the asshole cocky bastard type. And the past bits with Becky just dragged it all down, and the mood plummeted right from that first Past scene and it just never became the cutesy romcom this was supposed to be.
It was...disappointing. Maybe if it's sold differently, it can be a hit with more readers, but as is, it just doesn't gel

I’ve really enjoyed reading this book. It’s a cute romcom with opposites attract and friends to lovers thrown in for good measure. I thought that Drew and Becky were really well matched. I loved how they met and that they started out as friends. I thought that they were both really likeable characters. I loved Becky and really felt for her, I loved how she got closure on her past. The book itself was fast paced and written really well. I also liked that the book was mainly from Drew’s POV with only a few chapters from Becky, it’s rare in a romcom but it’s also a refreshing change.

This book has all the things you want and love from rom-com! It's told mainly in Drew aka the male main character's POV, and it's endearing to see his resistance of falling in love to actually be in love. Becky is also a great strong female character.

I liked that the story is told mainly from the POV of shark lawyer (with a hidden goey center) Drew, but one the four backstory chapters for the love interest Brit pastry chef, Becky, was so disturbing that it took me a day to force myself to continue reading when her next POV chapter turned up.

Trigger warnings include a drunken minor's sexual encounter with a preditor, psychological/domestic abuse, and miscarriage in the back story flashback scenes for the female love interest.

Laura Carter’s Brits in Manhattan series.

I enjoyed this romcom which stars Becky and Drew. Drew is a NY attorney who is making a run for partner and is all about work.

Becky is a British pastry chef at a NY restaurant, who is running from her past and meets Drew while they’re getting their breakfasts at a NY food cart.

I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I delightful read.

Thank you to the author, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

Keep an eye out for my review for Brits in Manhattan #2 coming shortly!
