I like that Orozco calls us to navigate our emotions the way Jesus navigated his. When lonely, for example, Jesus went to solitude. But he was not alone. His solitude was recharging in the presence of the Father.

My favorite emotion Orozco teaches about is feeling overwhelmed. She reflects on Jesus in the garden and notes he told his trusted friends what he was feeling. Then he got honest with God and finally let go, submitting to God's will. What a good example to follow.

I also like her pointing out Jesus' identity and confidence was not based on his heritage, education, location or accomplishments but rather in the truth of what Scripture said about Him and his relationship to the Father.

Rather than being a typical Christian self help book, Orozco really looks to Jesus for insights on navigating our emotions. I appreciate this teaching from Jesus' life example and his teaching. Orozco shares many experiences from her own life too. This book is a good resource for Christians.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

FaithWords and Netgalley have provided me with a copy of I Cry in Corners for review:

Even if we don't realize it, our emotions drive so much of what we do, say, and think. If we deny the existence of our feelings, let them lead our actions unchecked, or distract ourselves from them, our lives and the lives of those around us can be greatly affected. As essential as emotions are for everyday life, how we navigate them in life's storms determines our fate.

As Chari Orozco explores the life of Jesus, she examines the powerful emotional tests and responses he faced, from his terror in the Garden of Gethsemane to his righteous anger in the temple to his disappointment when those he loved most betrayed him in I Cry in Corners.

Chari provides readers with both practical and spiritual wisdom to help them handle emotions like Jesus. In the event that those closest to us fail us, how do we handle our emotions? We turn around and wash the feet of those we love. What is the best way to deal with temptation? We refuse to get hangry, resist the devil, and remember our value lies not in what we possess but in what we love. In the face of hurt we have suffered, how can we steward our emotions with maturity? The same as Jesus, we must choose our words wisely, keep our eyes on the joy before us, and, if necessary, flip some tables. Feelings are gifts from God, and Jesus' life and struggles teach us how to honor them without getting lost in them.

With a wry, straight-talking, irreverent tone, Chari seamlessly weaves together stories of the New Testament with her own insightful, humorous, and refreshingly candid anecdotes. Ultimately, the book affirms the importance of feeling all the feels and encourages readers to use their emotions to grow spiritually.

I give I Cry in Corners five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!
