This is book four in The Brothers of Wolfe Isle series. It features Drostan, the fourth Macquarie brother and Amelia, who has come to Wolfe Isle to avenge her brother.

There isn't really much going on in this book, but it is a fun quick read. If you enjoy highlander romances with a brawny Scotsman and plenty of steam, then this is definitely worth the read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Drostan MacQuarie has vowed that he will never marry. Better to be alone than to risk bringing the MacQuarie curse down on his family. However, he did not count on Lia MacLeod. Although, at first, she seeks revenge on the MacQuaries, she relents once she gets to know them. While she realizes that she no longer wishes revenge, she does want Drostan. Secrets, lies, nasty family members stand in their way. Will they be able to see through all the muck and mire to gather some happiness? Can we expect that dastardly pirate, Claude Jandeau to make an appearance? Will he ever get his just deserts? I love these alphabet brothers, unfortunately, there is only one brother left.

If you love a highlander romance that encompasses exactly what you think a highlander romance should be, than Heather McCollum's novels are for you. McCollum's writing is entertaining and fun, easily bringing to life an adventurous highland world that has a comforting feel. McCollum weaves together characters and plots for a quick paced and delicious escape from reality. While her writing and story follow formulaic beats, there is still an easy charm about the novel that makes it compulsively readable. Adventure, danger and mystery surround this series interconnected by a family curse make this fourth installment an easy place to start or a fun new story to continue. I think anyone who delights in a Lynsay Sands highlander romance will find a new favorite in Heather McCollum and this novel and series!

I must admit that I am reading this series out of order as The Highlander's Secret Avenger is Book 4 and I haven't read the previous books. However, that did not interfere with my reading and loving the brothers of Wolf Island!

Drostan is a handsome, brawny, creative and caring Highland warrior who lives on Ulva Island. Wolf Island lives under a curse and each Macquarie brother must do his part to prevent the island and it's inhabitants from dying. This intriguing plot line runs throughout the series and all the characters play supporting and important roles in this story.

Amelia McLeod is a young woman sorely abused by her brothers and seen only as a marriageable pawn to improve their standing. After her younger brother is killed, she is determined to prove her worth by finding and destroying the Macquarie clan. Her determination fails as she discovers a family so unlike her own and she begins to question all she has heard about this clan. Of course, after spending time with Droston, she begins to feel the flame of attraction! Her resolve begins to crumble until her brother appears, demands her return and opens her eyes to the evil in her family.

I devoured this book quickly and made a note to read the previous 3 in the series. Now I am waiting for the youngest brother's story and truly happy ending to the curse on Ulva Island.

Fourth in the series, The Highlander’s Secret Avenger, brings readers back to Ulva Isle in the Scottish Hebrides, where the five Macquarie brothers are dealing with a curse that could see their clan die out. With three brothers now happily wed, it is now the turn of Drostan Macquarie to find his true love. Drostan is a fabulous hero: he’s kind, gentle and a loyal protctor as well as being very easy on the eye and, when needed, afierce warrior.
Amelia Macleod is a lovely heroine, though she’s tormented by the cruelty of her older brother, which has led her to flee her family home on the Isle of Skye with plans to avenge her younger brother’s death in order to gain his approval.
While this book is the fourth in the series and reading the first three would help with context, it stands alone well and it doesn’t take long to work out who is who. Set in 1548, this is a great enemies to lovers story, though these two don’t stay as enemies for too long. The attraction between them is palpable. With lies and misunderstandings keeping things interesting in the romance stakes and the threat of danger lurking in the background, there is plenty to keep readers interested in this story to the last page.

I absolutely love this series, I'm going to be sad when its over! This is Drostan and Lia's story and I wasn't sure how invested I was going to be because Lia is out for revenge, but it has a sweet ending.

I received an advanced reader's copy of The Highlander's Secret Avenger by Heather McCollum.

I couldn't put this book down and read it in one sitting. Amelia Macleod sets out to avenge her brother's death but ends up conflicted as she realizes what she'd heard of the Macquarie brothers was nothing like the reality. As much as she doesn't want to be, she's attracted to Drostan Macquarie.

Drostan Macquarie is protective and kind, yet does what he must to protect those he loves. From the moment he crosses paths with Amelia, he can't resist looking out for her and coming to her aid when she needs it.

Since they're from rival clans there is much to keep Drostan and Amelia from their happily ever after.

This was an entertaining Scottish Historical Romance with great pacing.

McCollum writes such wonderful characters, and this book did not disappoint. Drostan, the fierce Highlander, is committed to preventing a curse that threatens his family. Amelia, the feisty heroine, takes fate into her own hands, disguises herself as a man, and runs away from her abusive family. I loved the intrigue and how the thought of the curse affected everything Drostan did. Her brother soon discovers Amelia’s deception and flight, and he seeks revenge on Amelia. A sea chase ensues, and a dastardly pirate takes matters into his own hands. This was a fast-paced novel with much heart and the message of forgiveness. The only issue I had with the book was accepting Amelia’s desire to destroy her clan’s enemy. That seemed a bit far-fetched to me. However, putting that aside, this was a great story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled for the ARC.

I didn't actually realize there was a series (my fault) but it was still a fun read. Kept me reading from the start.

Ugh, I can’t seem to keep those Highlanders apart from Heather. When requesting the Highlander’s Secret Avenger, I was convinced it was the next story of the Sons of Sinclair, which I started reading earlier. But alas, this was a story of another series of brothers: The Brothers of Wolf Isle.

Although you can perfectly read it as a stand alone, I usually prefer to read the whole series. The story of Drostan, one of the Macquarie brothers and Amelia Macleod is nice. The suspense has a nice build up and the instant attraction is cute, albeit not totally believable. The banter between them is nice and you can’t help to root for the two to get together. In all, four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

The Highlander's Secret Avenger is the 4th book in the Brother's of Wolf Isle series by Heather McCollum. These books can all be read as stand alone.

This is Drostan and Amelia's (Lia) story.

I loved this story and the time period. Did I mention the pirate?

The story was well written and fleshed out.

I am going to go back and read the first 3 books in the series.

This was my first Heather McCollum book and I loved it! I loved the focus on family, honor, and loyalty. These are values I adore so this was totally my cup of tea. Plus Lia and Drostan’s journey to get to where they are was beautiful! This is a sexy, honorable, lovable, and action packed book. Definitely will be checking out the books before this one!

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. This was just a wonderful book to read and it was just easy to lose yourself in the story. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

In my opinion there wasn’t much of a plot. The spice may have helped the book a bit, but it was not my cup of tea.

Thank you Net Galley for the book, my opinions are my own.

Raise is the 4th book in the Brother's of Wolf Isle series. This is Drostan and Amelia's (Lia) story. Lia is on a mission to destroy the Macquarie's to avenge her brother. According to her older brother they are evil 😈 and need to be brought to their knees. That's until she meets Drostan! He turns out to be the complete opposite of what she was told. In fact he is the complete opposite of her own family. Once again. We see the terrible pirate Jandeau try to split this tight Clan apart.

The Highlander’s Secret Avenger by author Heather McCollum had some interesting moments…

Drostan’s character had substance that stood out throughout the read. Amelia’s character from the start held subterfuge and was difficult to see genuine goodness as every step in the novel her character took was self serving.

The story’s timeframe was to quick to maintain any credibility in either character having any true, deep feelings of love and commitment. This only further diminished the thematic element of the Macquarie curse of the series and the tree’s happenings health/unhealthy appearance or effect.

While I like elements of the story, this instalment wasn’t the strongest in the series.

As a whole The Brothers of Wolf Isle series, has been some good reading.

The Highlander’s Secret Avenger by Heather McCollum
Brothers of Wolf Island #4

Three of five brothers overshadowed by a curse have found their true loves and begun to change the future for their clan bringing back t o life Wolf Island and a tree that seemed to have died. Two brothers remain, Drostan and Eagan, and this is Drostan’s time to do his part to break the curse.

What I liked:
* Amelia “Lia McLeod: sister to two horrible brothers, skilled archer, running from a forced marriage, has plans for revenge that go awry when she meets the family that are supposed to be her enemies
* Droston Macquairie: twin, fourth in line of five brothers, strong, caring, protective, believes he will have trouble with the curse, interested in Lia until a secret is exposed
* Sia: six-toed cat, saved more than once by Droston, could be lethal to Lia, finds a safe home
* Getting to see the brothers and how they are doing
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The part the curse and the willow tree play in the series
* Grisselle: older woman on Wolf Island who takes in stray children and women needing a safe harbor, descendent of the woman who cursed the Macquairie family, knows more about the curse than we have heard so far
* Getting to see some of the characters from previous books
* Wondering if the part of the curse related to tampering with the willow tree is true or not – hope to find out in the next book
* Looking forward to reading the conclusion and finding out who Eagan ends up with

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about what makes someone as evil as Lia’s brothers and the pirate Jandeau

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.
