I'm not a huge paranormal reader, but I adore everything Ali Hazelwood has ever written, so I went into this one cautiously optimistic. It's not easy to say that this might be her best book yet. Funny and lightning-fast paced. The world-building and character work is exceptional.. She remains the best of us all.

I was lucky to receive the e-ARC of Bride by Ali Hazelwood (it no longer appears to be on Netgalley). It was a delightful paranormal romance between a vampire and werewolf. It features a marriage of convenience to prevent conflict between the factions.

Fans of Ali Hazelwood will not be disappointed with her newest novel, set in a very different world than her other novels. This world contains Weres, Vampires and regular Humans. What's interesting about her approach here is that there isn't anything supernatural involved with the Weres and Vampires. They are products of evolution. And none of the species get along, so much so that there is a system of hostage exchanges that help to keep them from killing each other. One such hostage exchange is the subject of this novel, where Misery the Vampire is wedded to Were Alpha Lowe.
There's enemies to lovers, hidden agendas and found families here, plus some rather interesting romantic scenes. If you aren't well versed in Were/Shifter lore, you're going to get quite an education with this novel.
All in all a very different entry into the Ali-verse, but an enjoyable ride nonetheless.

You can bet I requested this as soon as I saw it pop up on NetGalley and I gobbled it down just as quickly. Is it like every other Ali Hazelwood book just with vampyres and werewolves? Yeah, pretty much. But it's a stupid good time time.
Full review to come!
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Berkley for sharing this advance copy with me in exchange for my honest review.

Misery is a vampyre that’s been living in the Human world for years now. She feels like she blends in as much as a vamypre can. She has a human best friend, she files down her canines and doesn’t hunt humans to drink their blood - she grabs blood from a blood bank of course.
When extenuating circumstances force Misery into accepting an alliance with the Were’s by marrying their alpha Lowe Moreland she tries to make the best out of a not so ideal situation. Misery’s father may be using Misery as collateral for this makeshift alliance, but Misery has her own agenda. Her best friend Serena went missing weeks ago and the only clue she left behind had to do with the Were alpha. Misery has to try to figure out what if anything Lowe knows about Serena’s disappearance.
The Were pack have each other's back and they all listen to their Alpha. They don’t have any love for a Vamypre living among them even if she is Lowe’s wife. But soon enough Misery finds that her only friend might be a little girl who just happens to be Lowe’s sister. The more time Misery finds herself spending with the pack, the more she ends up liking them and their fearsome, protective Alpha. Will Lowe and Misery learn to trust each other while they are contracted to stay married for at least a year?
I loved loved loved Bride. While this book felt completely different from Ali’s previous contemporary novels, I couldn’t stop reading it fast enough. It was darker and yet had all of the same traits I love about Ali's books - smart heroines with plenty of sass and wit and a hero who loves her unconditionally. I love Misery and Lowe together and didn't want this book to end. And that ending?! I definitely need more books in this universe.

This was honestly everything to me. I absolutely loved the vampyre and Were lore in this and I will admit, the first three chapter were hard for me because you’re just thrown into this world but honestly, it wasn’t super different from here other series just vampires and werewolves instead of scientists. Anyway, sign me up for more.

Misery has lived her entire life as collateral for someone else good behaviour, first as a vampyre child among humans then as a bride price to prevent war with the werewolves. All she cares about is finding out what happened to her only friend and the answers may lie with the wolves. She did expect her husband, the partnership he offers or the pack that begins to warm to her presence, but maybe there is something else in the world that Misery may grow to love.
Although the setting and tone of Hazelwood's new novel is quite different from the women in science themes of her previous novels, Misery holds the same level of cleverness, wit and unassuming charm of Hazelwood's other heroines. I enjoyed her as a character, but her self-deprecation and morbid humour may not be for everyone.

Ali Hazelwood’s books are always the highlight of the week I read them! This was no expectation. I read it in one sitting and wanted more. I love that Ali is getting to write different type of romances. This book is so good and I need more now.

I'm so very torn about this. I finished it last week, but I honestly don't know if I liked it. Ali creates a world where the supernatural and humans coexist- sort of. This is a mix of mystery and romance and weird green blood. The FMC, is borderline annoying but the MMC, is highly enjoyable. The plot was weird and unexpected, which I guess is a good thing. It's definitely not your typical were/vamp story. I don't quite know how I feel about it. I'm consistently disappointed with her books, but for some reason, I keep reading them, so I guess she's doing something right.

Ali Hazelwood has taught me many things... usually stem related things, but now I know about knotting and I can't unknow it... I'm not mad about it. Loved that epilogue, because we are getting more of these Alpha wolves. 5 stars.

Bride is a super fun and silly urban fantasy romance between a Were and a Vampyre. I think it's best to go into this book blind so I don't want to give away too much! I definitely recommend reading Bride if you're into paranormal romance, marriage of convenience, and women in STEM. Full of tension and drama, this is a story you'll want to sink your teeth into.

Slow burn with a twist of spice! I wasn't expecting that from the scientist writer! This is my first Ali Hazelwood and won't be my last. I loved the characters and again, I will say slow burn. It was delightful and I could hardly put it down!

A departure from Ali Hazelwood's STEM romances into a wild, paranormal ride. I loved it though - very well written with a great alpha hero and snarky heroine, lots of inter-species intrigue, a mystery, a cute kid, a cute cat and lots of ups and downs along the way.

I can't believe I'm rating an Ali Hazelwood only three stars.
Listen. I liked this book. I liked it. But it took me two days to read it, I often stopped to play Pokemon Go or garden, and I didn't slap my knees and snort AT ANY POINT in the reading.
But, then again, I've never been into Omegaverse fanfiction. So I don't know what I was expecting?
So the book comes out next year, so this is a generally spoiler free review. Ali Hazelwood bingo card? Pretty dang full.
- Nape
- Fanfiction mentions
- FMC with geeky persuasions (she's a vampyre AND a coder!)
- MMC is huge in many dimensions *koff*
- Described as having precise consonants
- Hey, yeah, it's a thinly veiled Adam Driver again, woops surprise
The sex scenes in this one are ample and...erm...well described and the characters in this one are especially vocal. (Dirty talk. I'm telling you there's lots of dirty talk.) If you've read Hazelwood's pre-publication fanfiction, it's along those lines: rough and fair bit unpolished. I would venture to say that this is the outright filthiest Ali Hazelwood book, but perhaps that's just because I find knotting to be the apex of the smut pyramid, though it may share a space with Ruby Dixon's endowed aliens. (Note to readers: yes, there's a smut pyramid, and no, I haven't made a poorly rendered graphic. (yet))
I knew going in that this book might not be my overall cuppa, and it turns out it wasn't. It was over the top and more than a little eye-rolly, but not a bad book by any means? Again, me + Omegaverse = meh, so take this review for what it is: I am a lady with specific tastes (Sexy! Martian! Topography!) and just because this specific title didn't hit for me, it doesn't mean my days as an Ali Stan are through. It just means I'm being realistic about what I like (realistic stuff) and what I don't like (Fantasy Omegaverse) and that's okay. I'm okay.
(But the very last two lines in the acknowledgements? Golden.)

1000% yes! This spicy sweet paranormal romance is everything. It made me giggle, it made me squeal, and I cannot wait for more!

Ali Hazelwood swaps lab coats for fated mates in her newest stunner, Bride. Hazelwood is finally writing sexy monsters, and it's like the first day of summer— fierce and joyful, something folks will be lining up for!
She's a nerd, a loner, a vampire! Three cheers for Misery, Hazelwood's latest heroine who desperately needs some company. Are you a Buffy fan? Do you like Ruby Dixon, a smidge of Veronica Mars and lots of werewolf action? I giggled and howled. And wow, it's super hot. Hazelwood's take on fated mates is rad, and you will love this genre-bending whirlwind of a love story.
Bride is every bookseller's dream. Do you like ACOTAR (but can't commit), Emily Henry and a smidge of Ice Barbarians? Here, we have just enough of each for a well-rounded mainstream bestseller and for each fan group of readers to be ecstatic in their choice.
I'm going to have a lot of happy customers. So THANK YOU, Ali :)
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy to review.

I really like how versatile of an author Ali Hazelwood is becoming. First, she comes out with a YA book, and now we have a paranormal romance! Although this wasn't my favorite book by Hazelwood, I thought Bride was fun and entertaining. I found the book world and trope twists unique and amusing. What I liked most about Bride was the main characters. I found Misery and Lowe to be likeable and relatable. The chemistry between these two was 🔥...expect some heavy steam in this one! I also enjoyed the side characters, especially Lowe's family. I thought Hazelwood did a great job of incorporating the "found family" trope. The only big problem I had with this book was the ending. I think a few additional chapters would have made the story feel less rushed. Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for the ARC.

I truly enjoyed this book, as in I couldn't put it down because it was such a fun read. I loved Misery, and felt that her character had just the right about of depth for the story. You wanted something to go her way, and felt her struggles of trying to do the right thing. I think that Lowe was a great character, and wish we could have had one or two chapters from his POV though I did enjoy that start of each chapter with his thoughts. I am excited for the second one, and I think that if you are new to shifter romances this is a good book to dip your toes in the water. If you are a hard core shifter/ fantasy reader, just know going into it that it's just a fun adventure romance shifter read with a good amount of spice mixed in for the genre of book it is.

If you handed this book to me with no information what-so-ever, I'm sure I would know it's an Ali Hazelwood book. I love her books, so that's not an issue, I just wanted to say this is very much an AH book.
I loved the romance, I laughed out loud multiple times at Misery's inner monologue, and I loved the characters. II feel like child characters can be very hit or miss, but Misery's bafflement at Ana kept everything with Ana entertaining. I really liked Misery. She's traumatized without completely realizing how traumatized she is. I loved her relationship with Serena, her best friend who is basically her sister.
And then there's Misery and Lowe. I felt like they were really good for each other. Lowe has his own issues that meeting Misery pushes to the front, but he's kind and he cares very much, about Misery and everything else around him. I was rooting for them the whole time, while also wanting to knock them both over the head sometimes. I'm so happy with how this book turned out and really look forward to any other Ali Hazelwood paranormal romances. An easy 5/5 stars.

Definitely different than her normal books but no less good. Misery was a really interesting protagonist, and her and Lowe are great together.
