Mr. Fixer Upper was my intro to Lucy Score, and now she has my attention.
Before I tell you all the reasons why Gannon King is swoon-worthy, I need to clarify that Mr. Fixer Upper is not a holiday book, as I thought when I grabbed it from the Target “Holiday Books” section. *sigh*
Grumpy reality TV star falls for his unimpressed & stubborn producer.
Gannon King and his twin sister, Cat King, are the stars of a home renovation show for an HGTV-like network. While Cat is the charm and soul of the show, Gannon is arrogant and over it. Together they’re ratings heaven. Paige is the field producer for the show and Cat’s bestie, but she’s not Gannon’s fan. She spends her days trying to keep him in line and in his place, while he enjoys trying to find ways to rattle her. (Mostly unsuccessfully. At least on the outside.)
One day on set while Paige is giving him a verbal beatdown, Gannon realizes he’s actually smitten by her and starts us on the wonderful journey of wearing Paige down until she admits she also wants him.
There is a shower scene that will melt hearts and wet undergarments. My heart did summersaults as I read it.
I found Gannon absolutely perfect. He is thoughtful, supportive, caring, and committed. He can be a pain in the ass in a cute and endearing way. (Like when he antagonizes Paige by calling her “princess” at work, which made me wince at times but truthfully small price to pay for the perfect man.)
I realize this review is quickly becoming an Ode to Gannon King, so let me assure you there are other reasons to read it. Paige is a hardworking woman trying to combat society’s unfairness to women. A big reason why she won’t allow the romance is because of how it will affect her career aspirations. She is a producer who is still trying to prove herself, falling for the star of the show is not in the plan or to her benefit.
Lucy Score also writes some smart and relatable discourse about double standards.
“There are double standards, some of them so subconscious we don’t even know we’re all behaving according to the double standards until someone points it out.“
This book made me so happy. My level of excitement was so high that I actually continued to read the preview to the next book included in the ARC, which I never do. I found out even though this book is categorized as a stand-alone, we get more King siblings’ stories with The Christmas Fix, an actual holiday story! *SCREAMS* (Watch out for Bee Jes’ review of Cat’s story coming soon.)
I know I’m late to the Lucy Score love bandwagon, but I made it. Isn’t that what’s most important?

I loved this book! I devoured it in only a few sittings and wish there was more to read. The story line was paced very well and the characters were easy to love!

Thank you so much to NG and Sourcebooks for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was so captivated by this book from the jump. The two mains had such good banter and sparks- they were a flying. Mr. Fixer Upper follows field producer Paige and reality TV star Gannon King as they navigate their workplace romance around their individual issues as well as the highly sexist TV and film industry.
While Paige finds Gannon physically attractive early on, she thinks he's a man child prone to temper tantrums and while Gannon also finds Paige attractive he thinks she's a network drone with no ability to have independent thoughts. Once these perceptions of one another change they get closer and closer to allowing their undeniable chemistry to take over.
Gannon comes to terms with his feelings for Paige pretty early and from then on he is steadfast and committed. She however, insists on keeping their relationship secret as well as insists on holding on to this idea that if she is in a partnership she will 100% lose herself and she has too much to do so obviously she simply does not have the time for this man who loves her and goes out of his was to show that love to her.
The title 'Mr. Fixer upper' is wild because Gannon gets new information early on, shifts his thoughts, and from then on is a kind and patient partner. Paige however needs literally a year of being wooed and babied. Honestly Paige was pretty unlikable to me. She refused to trust this man and all the reasons she had were kind of created by the girl herself. She gets really annoyed that another woman is making moves on Gannon but she was the one who wanted to keep their tryst secret so sorry girl, that one is on you. My man wanted to shout it from the rooftops.
I also had a bit of an issue with the pacing of the book. It took weird unnecessary gaps that honestly made me disinterested in the characters. It took me as long to finish the first 70% as it did the last 30% because that shit was dragggginggggg.
I felt like the conflict was grossly manufactured and the end was rush. It was still a decent read but it should have been more aggressively edited in my opinion. the lengthy end just gave me more time to be annoyed by Paige. By the end idk if I was rooting for them or for the book to be over.

I have been hearing about Lucy Score for quite some time. This is the first book by her I have read and I am ready to start the next.
I loved the dynamic between Paige and Gannon and loved Cat as well. One of my favorite things was that both Gannon and Paige had opinions about the other and they were both wrong.
When Meeghan tries to throw a wrench (no pun intended) in their relationship, Paige isn't sure what is real and what isn't. My favorite part might have been how willing Gannon was to fight for her and prove how much he loved her.

Has Lucy ever written anything I wasn’t obsessed with?! NO! She could write the phone book and I’d read it because she’s that incredible. Her characters are always so lovable 😍

This book was a light, fun read. I read the two books in this series out of order, but they did not need to be read in order. I think I would have enjoyed the book more had I read first, only because it was so similar to The Christmas Fix. The characters were likeable, but like The Christmas Fix, the plot was drawn out with Paige not wanting to give in to a relationship with Gannon. Paige works on the show that Gannon stars in. While the two didn't get along at first, they eventually fall in love only to have the network's meddling interfere with their relationship.

4.5 Stars
Lucy Score is unbelievably talented at building stories that wrap and turn and pivot the same way life does. Romance reads are safe. There is always a predictability, but Lucy Score takes you on a ride of emotions and really attaches you to her characters because you’re right there with them.
This book was full of banter and my favorite tropes: He falls first, One bed, Caretaking, and mild Enemies-to-Lovers. Oooh, and don’t forget, workplace romance… that always makes for great tension and steamy, sneaky moments.
What I Loved Most:
Paige is an absolute badass. She takes no prisoners. Knows where she’s headed. And is stubborn and determined enough to avoid pitfalls. She brings the sass and the bravery, but still has a kind heart.
Gannon fell first. I’m a big puddle of swoon when the guy falls first and makes it his life’s mission to “make her mine.” He didn’t give up and was so damn sexy about it.
I’m a sucker for “taking care of you” moments, and Paige gets several days of Gannon at her side to aid her and it squeezed my heart.
I would 100% recommend this book, and am looking forward to seeing these characters again.
Thank you to Lucy Score and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC and offer an honest review

The Fixer-Upper was an adorable rom-com! I was immediately hooked by the fun HGTV show premise with a feel-good work romance. I enjoyed the reality TV home improvement aspect of the book and how well Gannon and his sister work together as a team. It made me a little emotional with the scenes with the girl with cancer and how Gannon was so sweet to her. Gannon grew on me throughout the book. I loved how strong and independent Paige was. Both Gannon and Paige helped each other grow as they grew together, and it made my heart happy. My only complaint is, with all of Lucy Score’s books, this book was a little too long but was worth finishing.
Thank you to NetGalley and to Sourcebooks for giving me a copy of the book.

Liked the HGTV feel, liked the prickly hero better than the heroine and thought honestly he deserved better. This author is hit or miss for me and this was just ok

📍”There were a lot of things that surprised him about Paige, none of which disappointed him.”
There were a lot of times that a book by Lucy Score surprised me, none of which disappointed me. And this is no exception. This was exactly what I need, when I needed it. And that ending was surprising in all the good ways love usually is.
📍“You’re the best person I’ve ever known in my life, and if you tell Nonni that, I’ll call you a dirty liar. But you are the best, Paige.”
Took me half of a sentence to fall in love with Paige. Even less to fall for Gannon. Cat was already my soul sister before I even started this, even if I didn’t know it yet 😁
This story felt so full, so vivid, so wholesome. I laughed and cried and was infuriated. I also stood up and clapped and wish I had not smiled every time I was told so or when I was called a little rough on the edges. Paige, you were so brilliantly strong, so fearlessly stubborn. You deserve (to have) it all 🥹💜

Gannon is a grumpy reality t.v. star that Paige, the show’s behind the scenes back bone, only puts up with because A. she needs this job and B. she’s friends with his co-star and twin, Cat. Gannon falls for Cat first and is in the process of winning her over when she gets hurt on set. Gannon takes his feelings on overdrive and helps her through her difficult time. The network has (previously) posted Gannon with another shows main talent -Meeghan Traxx but Gannon denies they’re actually a couple. Gannon and Paige start to tip toe towards relationship status when Meeghan shows up on set and kisses Gannon in front of Paige. Paige is (rightfully) stunned and in the heat of the moment leaves the show early, going home. Paige is saving up to produce a documentary on the t.v. industry and how unfair it is to women but she just can’t go back to working with Gannon next season — until he gives her a new show offer she can’t refuse.
the premise of this book was entertaining, and I love me a grumpy/sunshine trope but holy fuck Paige was the worst. i understand that she has some unresolved mommy and daddy issues but ***spoiler alert*** why the fuck do you get mad over the “other woman” who wasn’t actually even involved with Gannon and not give him any chance to explain himself. The book’s redemption for me was the documentary on women in the t.v. industry and how underpaid and undervalued they are - it brings light to a real thing. I’m gonna read the next book in the series but I’m honestly scared it’ll fall flat like this one did.

Leave it to Lucy Score to create the perfect balance of wit, steam, and angst!
Paige and Gannon’s banter made this book a quick and easy read!

This is the first of the series, but I admittedly read it after The Christmas Fix since both can be read as stand alones.
Gannon is a carpenter and owner of a construction company (begrudging) working on a home renovation network. Paige is a producer on the same network and is just trying to focus on her career and move on to more meaningful projects. This book had Workplace romance, Forced proximity, Enemies to lovers, and He falls first (and makes sure everyone knows it). I loved this book and couldn’t read it fast enough!

Too holiday, DNF. I haven’t read Lucy Score’s other books, but this one was more holiday than I thought it would be. Probably not the right target audience for this one…

I stopped after chapter 1 (3%), but I’d guess this will be catnip for the target audience. It’s easy reading and our “Norse God” MMC sounds like quite the good time.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the ARC.

Not my favorite Lucy Score novel. You can definitely tell that her writing has really grown during her career. An easy to read romance that makes you smile still though.

Gannon and his sister, Cat, are the stars of Kings Construction, the reality TV show that is saving their grandfathers business. Paige is their field producer and she has done her best to avoid Gannon and his sexy like tendencies but then she gets drug into a love triangle. Paige has always resisted temptation to keep her reputation in the industry spotless, but will she be able to resist much longer?
I am in love with Gannon and the way he pursued Paige!! I also really liked how Paige stood up for herself and other women in the tv world. This was my favorite of the two just because of Gannon. There is some spice in this story as well!

First, let me start by saying that I adore everything that Lucy Score writes and this book is no exception. Mr. Fixer Upper involves Paige and Gannon. Paige is the field producer on the home renovation show that Gannon stars in with his sister. He has made it his mission to get a rise out of Paige any chance he can get, but Paige has learned to lock down her temper.
Paige believes that she won't be taken seriously if she is connected to the star of her show, but Gannon is infatuated and the cameras catch it all. I love the connection between Paige and Gannon and how he wears her down with his protective vibes and a major grand gesture. She can't seem to resist that toolbelt and dimples on Gannon and soon the sparks are flying.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more from Lucy Score.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bloom Books for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ah Gannon.. I love you. I, umm mean umm, this book was so good! Great characters. Great story. Great everything. Lucy just can’t do any wrong in my eyes. Definitely recommend.

I would first like to start this review by thanking the book gods that the cover was changed from its original. I don't think I would have ever given this book the time of day with its original one!!
I really have to give props to the author though, I genuinely thought I was watching an HGTV show. The writing style was pretty good and it wasn't annoyingly descriptive but enough so that I felt like I was indeed watching a whole episode at times.
Mild spoilers ahead!
In terms of the book itself it was okay. I definitely agree with a lot of other reviews that the MMC was far more likeable than the FMC. She was very woe is me and made a mountain out of a mole hill that he had already explained to her early on in their relationship. The ending was also meh - SPOILERS - him proposing to her when she only just realized she loved him? Like a month into their second go at being together was blah.
I did jump right in to another Lucy Score book (not book 2 for this one, though I will at some point!). So it wasn't the worst introductory book for sure!
Thank you for this ARC!
