Thank you to NetGalley and Daniel Hurst for this audio-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.

We pick up with Fern, now Doctor Drew's widow. Doctor Drew cheated with Alice and now they are both paying the price. Alice is in jail, Drew is dead, and Fern is living the high life with her new man Roger. Will Fern be able to keep her up lavish lifestyle or will her secrets come out?

I enjoyed this sequel to The Doctor's Wife and recommend it.

Daniel Hurst never disappoints, at this point, I almost read all his published books.
I loved the dual point of view, this is something I adore in his novels, that we can understand the minds of all the characters.

Without revealing additional details about the plot, it's worth noting that the narrative is enriched with a multitude of concealed elements and the author's trademark unexpected turns. I love that his books are not too long, and free from hidden motives, excessive wording or descriptions, or unnecessary scenes. The primary emphasis isn't on intricate character progression, allowing readers to simply enjoy the experience without much complexity. If you're seeking an immersive, captivating read, this author's work is definitely a great choice. He will always be my go-to author for a quick read.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for sharing this book with me. Your kindness is appreciated!

Wow! The Doctor's Widow is the sequel to The Doctor's Wife and what a sequel it was. It was everything we needed after the last novel. Daniel Hurst never ceases to amaze me!

I enjoyed this book as the audio version. The narration was fantastic! I have a habit of speeding up my audio books and when I did the narration was still crystal clear.

Thank you Daniel Hurst, Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for an audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This. Woman. Is. WILDLY. INFURIATING.
Like, what a psychopath, DAMN.

As always, Mr. Hurst crafts an entertaining popcorn thriller that is pretty straightforward but has some tense moments. I definitely wanted to keep reading quickly to find out what happened. I'm excited to see there will be a book #3 because we are left with some loose ends!
I felt bad for Alice throughout, we are given some chapters from her POV and knowing she didn't kill anyone but is in prison made me want her to get some justice.

Would recommend reading The Doctor's Wife first but I also wouldn't say it is 100% necessary. We are provided pertinent information throughout The Doctor's Widow.

Would recommend if you like:
-multi POV (Fern, Greg, Alice, & police officer)
-scorned woman's wrath
-straightforward, quick thriller

EXCERPT: The police really thought they had me when they kicked down my door and burst into my home.
They burst through the new door that belonged to the expensive house that I'd only just bought. When I settled the estate agent's fees and accepted the keys, I had no idea that the beautiful property that I had purchased would soon be swarming with police officers.
But it was.
Dozens of men and women, all of them in black and white uniforms, and all of them eager to wrap my wrists in handcuffs and march me outside to one of the waiting vehicles, while my new neighbours stopped and stared at the unsavory scene happening right in front of them in their quiet street in an affluent suburb.
That was their plan, anyway. But, as has been the case for a while now, the police's plan has always differed greatly from my own.

ABOUT 'THE DOCTOR'S WIDOW': I loved my husband, Doctor Drew Devlin, but he betrayed me. And now he’s dead.

As I put the key in the lock and open the door to the luxurious new home I’ve purchased with Drew’s life insurance money, I’m certain the worst days are behind me. My secret is safe, and I can’t wait to enjoy my new wealth and freedom.

Then I meet handsome Roger. I wasn’t looking for a relationship but as we spend our evenings drinking wine on my sunny terrace, I realise he’s just what I need right now. Roger is nothing like Drew, he’s spontaneous and romantic. And most of all, he’s honest.

He thinks I’m a rich, lonely woman. He’s wrong of course, there’s so much more to me…

But then one night, when we’re curled up in bed together, Roger says something that makes my blood run cold. I think he knows the truth about my life as the doctor’s wife.

I will do anything to stop my past from catching up with me… But is Roger really who he says he is? Or is my life now in danger?

MY THOUGHTS: Daniel Hurst writes entertaining books and the follow-up to The Doctor's Wife, The Doctor's Widow, is no exception. I will point out here, before you read any further, that you really do need to have read The Doctor's Wife before you read this, the second book in the series. Is there going to be a third? I would think so, and the ending here seems to indicate that there will be.

Fun, entertaining, and with unexpected twists, The Doctor's Widow is a fast and easy read/listen. Told from the points of view of Fern, Alice, Greg/Roger, and occasionally the detective on the case, this story has it all! Fern can appear to be quite normal at times, but underneath she is scheming and manipulative. She is going to let no one, and nothing, stand in her way of living the good life now that she has successfully disposed of her cheating husband Doctor Drew Devlin. She has everyone feeling sorry for her. What they should be doing is feeling scared of her!

This is one crazy read! Okay, I admit I rolled my eyes a couple of times as it's not always believable, but it is always fun.

I read and listened to The Doctor's Widow, narrated by Sarah Durham and Luke R Francis. While each narrated two characters, they didn't have a great tonal range, and Sarah's rendition of the male voices left a lot to be desired. It would make more sense if Sarah narrated the female characters and Luke the male.

Oh my Miss Fern, you are really something! The question is what is that something?

Poor Fern, she had it all, the wife to a prestigious doctor, money, friends, and one has to feel sorry for her after the tragic death of her husband. Left on her own and lonely, she finds another man, Rodger, who seems to be an ideal mate, but it has only been four months since her husband died. Is it to soon, or is Rodger one to heal her supposed wounds?

You know what they say about pillow talk? In this case some loose lips might just sink a ship one thinks they are riding on. Fern loves to make excuses and justify all types of her behavior. (sounds kind of familiar these days). In other words, she is a real piece of work, and we wonder if Fern might eventually come up against a brick wall, or is she destined to be one who is lost to the wind.

It seems quite possible that we will have to find out more in book 3.
A fine follow up to Mr Hurst's first The Doctor' Wife book, one that kept me listening and eager to hear more of the escapes of Fern and Roger.

Thank you to Daniel Hurst, Bookouture, narrated by Luke R. Francis, Sarah Durham who did a fine job, and NetGalley for the ability to listen to this story.

What a wild and dramatic whirlwind of a story. I knew I’d read the first book, and even though it wasn’t so long ago, I initially had trouble recalling the major details; once I started this one, though, parts of it felt familiar, so that helped. I don’t know that the original story really needed a sequel, but nevertheless, it was an entertaining and fast-moving story of deception, betrayal, and murder. Very satisfying overall. I will continue to read (and enjoy!) books by this writer.

Firstly, I am thankful for the opportunity to have received a free copy of this Audiobook through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. This book follows on from Hurst's "The Doctor's Wife" which I also received and reviewed back in February.

So this one picks up from where The Doctor's Wife left off, so we know Drew is dead and Alice is in jail.

Fern now has an impresive new house with the money she inherited after Drew passed. Happy in her new life. She, of course was responsible for what happened to Drew, but no one else know that. Or do they?

Fern stats dating Greg....or is that Roger? He is determined to bring her down for what she did and save Alice from her jail cell.

But does Fern know and other other ideas?

The narrators of this audiobook did a wonderful job and i enjoyed this one, getting through it in just a day.

I rate this Audiobook 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐stars and would recommend to those who enjoy their psychological thrillers!

The DoctorsxWidow is one of the best audios I have had the pleasure of listening too this year.
As a follow up to the Doctors Wife it is incredible and takes us on a new journey with Fern,Alice and Greg. Fern is now moving on as a wealthy widow and loving life. Could it all about to go wrong? Will her lovely new flash life be cut down before it's begun? Real edge of your seat stuff. Daniel Hurst is an extraordinary writer and has a great skill in creating characters and plots that you become 100% invested in. Another outstanding book that is the perfect follow up to hook one

Review for 'The Doctor's Widow' by Daniel Hurst.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Daniel Hurst, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 23rd August 2023.

This is the fourth book I have read by this author. It is also the second book in 'The Doctor's Wife' series. It can be read as a standalone but I would recommend you read it after 'The Doctor's Wife' to get a better picture of the characters and storylines. I have previously read the first book in this series 'The Doctor's Wife', 'My Daughter's Boyfriend' and 'The Holiday Home'.

This novel consists of a prologue, 36 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

AN ABSOLUTELY ADDICTIVE, THRILLING, UNPUTDOWNABLE HEART RACING AND EXPLOSIVE BOOK THAT WILL KEEP YOU UP LATE AT NIGHT UNTIL YOU TURN THE LAST PAGE!!

Wow!!! This book is fantastically written and had me hook, line and sinker from beginning to end. The descriptions were so in depth and vivid that the hair on my arms was standing on the ends and my heart was pounding throughout. The synopsis, title and cover were perfect for the storyline.

I absolutely loved this unique page turning explosive page turner. It is the absolutely perfect follow on from 'The Doctor's Wife' and just as addictive!!! I was so glad when I found out about this book and it definitely exceeded my expectations. However I can't say I'm surprised as Daniel is an extremely talented author!! I was absolutely absorbed throughout this psychological thriller. It is filled with tension, suspense, lies, secrets, deceit, romance, love, aand omg the twist!!! I DID NOT see the twists coming at all and there were more than one!!! Just when I think everything had been worked out and things were settling down BOOM there was another bombshell!! A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS Daniel!! It is getting harder and harder to shock me but by God you did that over and over and over!!! What an ending!!! I absolutely LOVED how it ended and I am on tenterhooks waiting for the next book in this series 'The Doctor's Mistress ' to come out. I only found out today that there was another one coming out and I am absolutely landed as when I finished this one I shouted out No Way it can't end there and although Daniel has left us on a cliffhanger at least there's another book coming. Oh and yes I did get a few strange looks when I shouted that out considering I had wireless earbuds in listening to the audiobook 😂!! One of the most gripping unputdownable nerve wracking psychological thrillers I have EVER read!!! One of the others is 'The Doctor's Wife'. Daniel, You have one hell of a talent and I cannot wait to get hold of your previous and future books!!! I cannot remember the last time I was so hooked by a book but you managed that big time!!! I loved that the book is told from Fern, Alice, Greg and Tomlin's perspectives and each of their stories/chapters were perfectly weaved together to show us everything that is going on and how each of them are thinking and feeling throughout. The storyline is filled with crime, shocks, suspense, tension, deceit, and murder. There was so much going on and it was very fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. This book is absolutely addictive and I read it in one sitting. I absolutely loved the cliff hanging explosive twist at the end that leaves you wanting more! It kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with my heart absolutely pounding throughout especially at the end! I really am looking forward to the next book by this extremely talented author. A gripping, all consuming addictive addition to an absolutely amazing series!!!

Although this is the second book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

Clear your schedule before you start as I read this in one sitting as I could not put it down!! Practically every chapter ended on a cliff hanger so no way could I put it down!! Absolutely hooked!! I would absolutely love to see this turned into a movie!!!!

This is one of the few books that I have listened to 100% on Audiobook. If I listen to a book on audiobook I usually also read the physical book between but for the second time I listened to the whole book and I was impressed! I must say a HUGE congratulations to the narrators Sarah Durham and Luke R Francis who both did an amazing job bringing this story and the characters to life. I have previously listened to Liz Lawler's 'The Nurse's Secret', 'The Doctors Wife' and 'The Family On Smith Street' that were all also narrated by Sarah Durham and I would highly recommend listening to or reading them all as it they re other fantastic page turners from other great authors!! I would listen to it in the car and while walking at any opportunity. I'm not only looking forward to reading more books by Daniel but also to listening to more books narrated by both Sarah and Luke!
.

The characters were all strong and realistic and thanks to Daniel's absolutely fantastic writing skills and Sarah Dunham and Luke R Francis's amazing narrative skills they all come to life when you are turning the pages. I loved meeting Fern and Alice along with meeting several new characters. When I came to the end of 'The Doctors Wife' I just HAD to know what was going to happen with them both next so I was over the moon when I found out that it was going to be turned into a series and it definitely lived up to my expectations and I just KNOW that the next book in this series 'The Doctors Mistress' is going to be just as epic and I can't wait to get stuck into that too!! Daniel's creative and evocative writing skills ensured all the characters came to life and along with getting to know more about Fern and Alice I enjoyed getting to meet and learn more about the other characters which included Greg and Tomlin. Fern has become the sort of character that I love to hate and part of me wants her to get caught while the other is trying to warn her what is going on to let her get away!!! It is amazing how much emotions Daniel's characters evoke in the reader!!! It is hard to say too much about the characters as I am worried I will give too much away and I really don't want to spoil it for future readers. Regardless of whether you love or hate the characters they all worked perfectly together to make this an addictive and explosive storyline and series!!!

This is exactly why you are one of my favourite male authors Daniel! An absolute must read author!! I cannot wait to read all your previous and future books!! Here's to your next success 🥂

Overall another absolutely heart racing, suspense filled, unputdownable addictive page turner psychological thriller filled with twists in this EPIC series!!

This series is just getting better and better.
Cannot wait for the next installment!! It really is edge of seat listening...what a story!

Daniel Hurst is a fantastic storyteller and I'm so happy that this 2nd book in the series was also brilliantly narrated.

I want to thank the author, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio
for the opportunity to listen to this terrific new book.

This is the second in the series and though I didn’t read the first, it didn’t impede my experience of listening to this book and I very much looking forward book three. This is a well crafted cat and mouse game that leads one of the main characters to become a remorseless serial killer. Fern and Alice are the main players and thus far, Fern is winning. Fern has gotten away with murdering those who she feels have betrayed her as walking away is not her style, while Alice is languishing in prison having been framed and found guilty. Fern believes she is living her best life, living large off of the money she inherited from the husband she murdered. Then she meets a new man, she is happy and ready for the next stage figuring out ways to manipulate him as well. That is until his secret is uncovered and she has no choice, but to kill again. Only this time it doesn’t go so well for her. It’s a creepy, dark, story that left me cheering for Alice and desperate to know who happens next to Fern and if she will ever get what is coming to her. The narration added to the experience.

I received the audiobook for the Doctor's Widow and I really enjoyed it. I found this the perfect sequel to the Doctor's Wife. There is a bit of craziness at the end which makes it unbelievable. SPOILER if you haven't read the Doctor's Wife......
The funny thing is you have this woman who has gotten away with having her husband killed and his mistress framed for it and you have this guy who is trying to prove her guilt yet I had a hard time deciding who I was rooting for. I really don't know who I wanted to "win". But regardless Daniel Hurst writes books that are enjoyable quick reads.

So, this is my extremely diplomatic but honest review, it’ll seem unkind in the beginning but bare with me.

This is the follow up to The Doctors Mistress, which I read some time ago and didn’t rate very highly, which probably makes you wonder why on earth I’d bother with the sequel, the reason for that, I have a bit of a love hate relationship with the authors writing style, so I wanted to give it a go, the good news is it’s a million times better than the prequel. It was an easy listen, a fairly short story, where the baddy gets there comeuppance, but I think you’d definitely need to read the prequel, I thoroughly enjoyed it. If i could have the audacity to offer advice to the author it’d be to say, trust your reader a bit more, we are intelligent people we don’t really need the over explanation of every twist and turn of the story. I’ll definitely stick with the author though, as some of his work has been stellar, and you can’t please everyone I get that.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookature audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.

Thanks so much @netgalley for the chance to review The Doctor’s Widow by Daniel Hurst. I LOVED getting back into Fern’s head - and this book was sooo full of twists. I could not put it down! Fern meets Roger and might be starting over (with her dead husband’s money, obviously)… but he’s actually a friend of her husband’s and a cop. Not everything is as it seems. So fun, and excellent narration!

The Doctor's Widow by Daniel Hurst is a solid follow up to The Doctor's Wife. I just love how unlikeable the main character, Fern, is. What a miserable human being. I could not wait for her to get her just desserts. Not going to spoil on whether or not she gets them...

It's a fast-paced popcorn thriller! You would really want to read the first book before this one. The narrators are fabulous. Daniel Hurst does a fantastic job with his quick little novels to take on the airplane, vacation, or to listen to while doing house chores or gardening etc. It's fun!

I'm becoming a great fan of Daniel Hurst. When I requested this book I hadn't realised that this was book two in a series. There was things eluded to in this book that happened in the first book. It certainly did not stop me from enjoying this story. The author was able to give enough information so I didn't feel that I was missing out. (Although it does want me to go and read the first part.)
Fern is the widow of Dr Drew Devlin. She's just brought her dream home in Manchester with the proceeds of her dearly departed husbands life insurance. While family and friends worry about her. Fern is already embracing her new life. She also has a new man Roger.
Roger is not who he seems and is hell bent on finding out the truth of Drews death. Hoping it will lead to the release of Alice the woman imprisoned for his murder.
I loved the characters. I also had this as an audiobook. Having both male and female narrators just brought the story to life for me. So it was very easy to know who's point of view was being talked about.
I can't wait for the next book in this series. I will book a days leave so I can sit and enjoy in one sitting.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

I am usually advocating that books are stand alones, but not this one. You definitely need to read The Doctor’s Wife to appreciate this one. But the first one is the series was good and worth a read. Daniel Hurst has quickly joined my list of popcorn thriller author’s I love to read or even better listen to. Short, quick paced books with short chapters that are twisty and engaging.

In this one, the story of Alice and Fern continues and basically picks up where The Doctor’s Wife left off. I really loved the cat and mouse game between Fern and her new lover. Or is he. I think Fern is the character I most like to hate since Nick and Amy Dunne of Gone Girl. While I was never sure exactly where this one was headed, it had less twists than the last one, but I was just as engaged. Does she continue to get away with being a black widow or will she finally see consequences for her actions? I honestly don’t know whether to cheer her on or root for her to get caught.

And I sure hope that the author is well on his way to finishing the next book in the series because this one ended on a cliffhanger. My only complaint of the book.

And while I enjoy reading the author’s books, I love listening to them. They are a perfect backdrop for a walk or cleaning or just about anything. Luke R. Francis and Sarah Durham do a terrific job bringing the story to life and letting it shine. I did not want to stop listening.

As spooky season is almost upon us, this series is the perfect way to kick it off. You won’t be disappointed listening to this series.

My oh my was I proud of Fern in book one .. what can I say I love a villain & all she was trying to do was enjoy her freedom and money & she trusted the wrong person.

From prologue to epilogue I was hooked! It’s gripping, fast paced. The book is written in more of the inner thoughts of the characters rather than a dialogue which I enjoyed in an audiobook. Felt like I was in their head and thinking along with them.

I did listen to book 1 The Doctors wife & book 2 The Doctors Widow & I really enjoyed the narration. It ends leading me to believe we will get book 3 soon & Im so excited for it!

If you enjoy thrillers that are fast paced you will definitely enjoy these
