I didn't know too much about Geraldine DeRuiter before this book, but now she feels like a friend. I love her irreverance & honesty that comes through in every essay.

I knew this would be good, having loved her previous book (All Over the Place) but I didn't expect it would be this outstanding!! This is a collection of memoir essays grouped around food, which then take off into wildly unexpected territory, all incorporating ideas of feminism and sexism/misogyny (namely in the foodie/professional chef community) and just being a woman alive today who dares to say anything on the internet. DeRuiter is scathing and hilarious, and I was definitely laughing out loud on a plane while reading this. Elsewhere I was moved to tears, in the first essay especially. She has such a surprising way of creeping up on with you with intense emotions. Some of the topics are around her previously published blog posts or articles, a couple of which went viral, and addressing the aftermath she experienced. Such a worthwhile and surprisingly moving read.

Immersive and engaging. A recommended purchase for collections where memoirs and foodie titles are popular.
