Wow! What an opening first chapter, heart pumping as you read, it’s so tense. I couldn’t read it fast enough. I was totally hooked, quickly turning the pages to find out what’s going to happen. Just brilliant.

I absolutely loved #ProfileK. It has a captivating storyline which is very descriptive and has some gory scenes. There are plenty of twists and turns you don’t see coming.
It’s brilliantly written with great characters. I loved the relationship Midnight had with her twin sister Dawn. It’s just so beautiful. I also loved Doris.

Overall, an engrossing page turning dark gripping crime fiction. A must read if you enjoy this genre. Definitely recommend. I look forward to reading more from @helenfields_author

What if you uncover a psychopath as you go about your job? What if the psychopath knows you have discovered them? This is essentially the premise of Profile K. Midnight Jones works for a company as a profiler, coding assessments which reveal if a candidate is suitable for a university course. All is well, until she comes across a profile K - someone with no empathetic or disgust response to extreme violence. Who in fact seems to enjoy what they have seen. Soon, women in the local area are being killed in the most extreme of ways. When no one listens to Midnight, how far is she prepared to find profile K and prevent another death?

Whilst I enjoyed reading this book, my lasting impression is that it’s a little unbalanced so that the overall effect isn’t as brilliant as it could be.
What is done well in Profile K, is our villain. They are as sick and dangerous as you would want from a fictional serial killer. The tension the reader feels as they are drip fed information about the killer, is written really effectively. However, other parts of setting aren’t as good. As other readers have said, Midnight’s tenacity at investigating her profile K is at odds with all we are told about how protective she is to her sister. This disparity makes the plot feel less believable. It’s also hard to credit the complete change of personality the policeman undergoes. I really like the idea of a dystopian sinister tech company but I felt like this aspect of the plot was written quite superficially. I was still craving more detail and a satisfying outcome at the end of the book.

It’s a creepy, grisly thriller that fans of the genre should enjoy, but it’s not a book I think will stick with me or stand out in the year’s reading.

This book blew my mind with its exceptional quality. Kudos to the author for penning such an impressive novel. Its unique storyline and engaging writing style reminded me of John Marrs' books, specifically 'The One' and 'The Marriage Act'. The author's ability to keep the story fresh and exciting without repetition is commendable. I found myself completely absorbed in the book and couldn't put it down. This book is a definite contender for one of my top 10 reads of the year.

I could heavily relate to Midnight. It was easy to root for her despite her sometimes questionable decision-making. I like the characters’ names. The story is captivating. It grabbed my attention from the start. The descriptions of crimes didn’t bother me and were actually a good element in the story; helping the reader picture what happens besides just having a vague image of crime in mind. The author has her own unique style.

Wow! I have to say this was one of the hardest and disturbing books I have read, the descriptions of the crimes were very graphic. Do not read this if you have a weak constitution!! Profile K is one of the scariest applicants that could have been profiled.
All being said, I had to keep reading this book to find out what was going to happen and how things would turn out for Midnight. Loved the relationship she had with her sister and Doris.
I am really looking forward to Helen's next book - do I guess we have a Connie and Midnight joint investigation coning up?

Having read all Helen Fields' books, I knew I was in for a good read. My attention was grabbed from the first page and never wavered!
Midnight J loves her job and her twin sister for whom she cares with no time for anything else in her life. Midnight's history and her life, such as it is, are well described - giving a full, rounded picture of her life - a life which is rattled beyond belief when she checks the data on an applicant's TESU test. She no longer knows who to trust and what to do to protect her job and her sister.
Not for the faint-hearted! Guaranteed page turner.

This was a great thriller, every reveal had my mind spinning to think of possible connections and outcomes, a few of which I managed to get right!

I found the look into AI and thoughts around what it is capable of and what large Biotech companies could be using this technology for really interesting (and rather frightening!) It was also good to hear from Connie Woolwine again (character from the authors pervious books) and think this sets up a new investigative team up nicely for future crime solving.

The only story line that I didn't fully buy into/felt a bit rushed was that of DI Ruskin. I don't know whether that is just because I am use to the authors previous incorruptible detectives but it just did not seem to tie with the character arc that had been built with him although I do understand that it was demonstrating the reach the company had and that everyone has a price.

This book, like most of the authors work, has particularly descriptive and gory scenes of the murders so bare that in mind when picking it up.

Blown away! What a heart-pounding, tense, engrossing and thrilling book! If you read this before bed, you may have a hard time falling asleep.

Midnight Jones works for Necto Corporation in the profiling department, where with the use of very high tech software and testing, college student and job applicants are evaluated for their fit within a business or university. In addition to knowledge, this technology is able to assess personality and cognitive and creative abilities too. But is this technology able to do even more? Unknown to applicants, almost nothing can be hidden from this testing. Necto profilers have been taught Profile K (Killer) is just a "joke" profile used to demonstrate the most extreme of cases during training. There would never actually be a real Profile K ... or would there???

I would categorize this book as a crime/thriller with touches of science fiction and horror. Some scenes are diabolical, horrific and sick. Yet, despite the disgusting violence, I could not pull myself away. Other times, we get to experience the caring, love and friendship between some of the characters. The storyline moves along at a good pace, not too fast or slow, but the edge-of-your-seat tension is always there. This book also asks questions about the power of money, morality, parental duty, gaslighting, strong women, friendship and family love. I highly recommend! This is a brilliant book that I can highly recommend.
I’ve read all of Helen Field’s books and this is definitely one of my favourites.
Midnight is an analyst for a tech company called Necto, and her role is to screen candidates’ results for Education or employment opportunities.
She is shocked when she comes across a candidate whose results are off the chart. When she looks back at what they have seen, and their reactions, she knows immediately there is something wrong with this individual. Their results have flagged them as ‘Profile K’ which basically means they are a potential killer and Midnight knows she needs to report this. However her manager dismisses it as an error and when she takes it higher she’s not given the response she expects.
With a woman recently brutally murdered nearby, Midnight wonders if she has the killer’s profile in her possession.
I’ll leave it there regarding the story as you need to discover what happens next for yourselves.
There’s a few twists and turns in the story and this makes it a gripping thriller.

Midnight Jones works for a biotech company called Netco which deals with HR profiling as a data analyst. Whilst processing a test application the system malfunctions and produces a Profile K. But listening to her gut Midnight Jones knows something is not quite right. Midnight Jones is her twin sister's full-time guardian and needs to keep her wits about her with a killer on the loose. As another body is found Midnight Jone’s life turns into a game of cat and mouse.

I have championed Helen Fields' work since her first release. Perfect Remains has always been the book I say is the goriest I have read, until now. Profile K is a ten on the scale of gory and it makes Perfect Remains look like a solid five. I don’t know if it is because of the way the world is today but my soul struggles with the gory. Before it would seem like a never happening type scenario but in today’s world that isn’t the case. I don’t recall ever crying reading a Helen Fields book but I did during of of the murder scenes with Profile K. This book is for the lovers of tough, gritty and horrific crime fiction scenes.

I liked Midnight Jones as a character. I didn’t agree with all her choices and I was screaming at her in my head but I also had to appreciate that she wouldn’t have been in her right mind at times, given the scale of events. I loved her bond with Dawn, it was really beautiful and I can appreciate and relate to how hard it is to be responsible for another adult. In Midnight’s case one with limited communication.

There were times when I thought I couldn’t read on. But then I know and trust the process with Helen. You are in safe hands and I knew I would leave the book satisfied and I did. Also having a character from a previous series pop up in the book, made me feel safe.
I learned a lot about a terrible condition that I didn’t even know existed and it made me want to puke.

Overall, I had quite the time with the book. I read it in one evening. I felt a huge array of emotions and in the end, I felt the need to call my therapist for an emergency session. The book will make you aware of your surroundings and have you triple-check you locked the door. I highly recommend it to die-hard crime fiction fans.

An utterly brutal belter of a read!

The first chapter of Profile K left me gasping for breath and I could not read the words quickly enough to satisfy my brain. It's rare a first chapter pulls me so deeply into a story, so it was no surprise to me when my only compulsion for forty-eight hours was to pick up my kindle. (It would have been quicker, but apparently work and sleep are necessities!)

The relationship between Midnight, and her twin sister, Dawn, is the most beautiful thing, shining brightly from amongst the fear, anxiety and desperation. I also fell in love with Doris... the kind of friend everyone wishes they had.

The whole book left me feeling uncomfortable and slightly drained – which is a good thing!

An Absolutely fantastic stand alone read from Helen Fields as always.

If starting her main series is intimidating but you want to get to know the authors style then this would be the perfect start.

Midnight is a Analyst who comes across Profile K, a person who is incredibly dangerous. She tries to raise it to management but she is shut down and desperately needs her job as she cares for her twin sister, so what more can she do?

Hard to put down, highly recommend.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning. It started so strongly and maintained that throughout. The story was intricate and interesting with characters you rooted for.
I’ve enjoyed every Helen Fields book and I had no doubt I’d have loved this one when I requested it. It did not disappoint in anyway. Fields never holds back on gore and darkness.

Stunningly horrific but brilliant plot.
Another compulsive read from the mistress of original writing.
Such an unusual plot. What could happen when big corporations unethically use their powers.
Scary that I do not doubt that while it's a work of fiction, the premise is wholly believable.
Another engrossing read and while it doesn't feel like a series there are appearances by characters we've met before and promises that we’ll see them again in the future.
A huge fan of the author's books she again delivers a belter of a read.

I almost missed Helen Fields new book Profile K but I saw a few reviews on it and I was intrigued enough to read it, and I'm so glad I did as it is a great psychological thriller with well written and relatable characters and a gripping s that not only keeps you guessing but also makes you realise how easy it is for someone to find out information about you on the internet and how your own information can be used against you by the wrong people, it's not for the faint hearted as it is is gory in parts but not in a over graphic way which I feel signs say it should be as sometimes this overshadows the main story, all in all a definite recommendation from me.

Midnight Jones works for a biotech company in London England creating profiles based on applications received by various companies and educational institutes. One day the application she's reviewing comes up as a Profile K which she's never come across before. To confirm the results, she takes the same test herself and for her it was torture just to watch the accompanying videos but apparently not for the applicant.

If you're at all familiar with Helen Fields' work, you know she doesn't shy away from the depiction of death and injury and this book is a prime example. Beware if you're at all squeamish!

Even though she's been told by her employer to drop it, we follow Midnight as she investigates the unusual test results and their connection to gruesome murders in the area. Her story is interspersed with chapters written by "The Applicant" and we learn of his background. Dr. Connie Woolwine whom we met in The Shadow Man and The Institution also makes an appearance, albeit via Zoom, and helps Midnight in her efforts to track down the serial killer. Her devotion to her disabled twin sister is so heartwarming and I think we all need a Doris in our lives. The book contains many other interesting secondary characters as well, some good and some bad.

This wasn't a "can't put it down" read for me but it was totally different and I really liked it. In fact, sometimes I had to put it down so that I'd be able to sleep. I can't wait to see what Ms Fields comes up with next! I think a new series starring Midnight Jones and Dr. Connie Woolwine would be a huge success.

Midnight Jones is a profile analyst at Necto, a tech company specialising in the psychometric testing of the human brain. Midnight believes her equipment has a malfunction as the Applicant she’s testing comes up as Profile K – for Killer – and a person considered to be highly dangerous. Midnight believes the Applicant knows her name and fears for her safety when she learns someone using a false identity is trying to trace her.

‘Profile K’ is a psychopath who comes to the attention of Midnight Jones and whose brutality is increasing as he’s choosing women to attack in an area of London close to Midnight’s home. When she reports her fears to the Necto’s director Sara Vickson and doesn’t get any support, Midnight contacts world famous profiler Dr Connie Woolwine for her advice. The story has been brilliantly devised, violent and shocking, and at times it’s so disturbing that I’ve had to temporarily stop reading fearful of what the Applicant is going to do next. This is a fantastic thriller that I can’t praise enough and the conclusion leaves me in hope that there’ll be more of Midnight as she collaborates with Dr Woolwine.

Such a fantastic read, I loved the whole concept, especially the ways in which the company worked and how it treated its employees.

Great characters who completely reel you in and engage you in to turn the next page to see what happens next.

There’s not many thrillers that make me emotional (The Last Girl To Die…ahem!!) and throughout this book, I felt that unease building, which I loved.

The ending had me shouting in joy! One of my favourite endings of a book

This was a good book! I couldn’t put it down. Sometimes my eyes tried to read faster than my brain just to see what would happen next! Super intense. I really enjoyed how the characters intertwined with each other without you even realizing it.
