I read this book without having read the first one, but it was easy to understand and follow. This can be read as a standalone story as well in my opinion. The story follows Eliot and Ada, each in adventures of their own until they end up in the same place with Eliot trying to save Ada.

Each of the characters have secrets that they are hiding and soon these secrets will come out. Once again (as per the blurb and later while reading the book), the characters are forced to steal something to truly save themselves.

I liked the characters of Ada and Eliot though I am not sure that I connected very well with them. At first, the story did not resonate with me and it took me some time to really get into it. Towards the middle, everything started to make sense and it was quite fun to read this story. I like the banter and rapport that Eliot and Ada have and the plans they come up with to save themselves in the end.

This was an enjoyable, one time read and is perfect for fans of mysteries and thrillers!

The Perfect Hoax is a wonderful 2nd installment to the Reed Files series. I found this one to be a little more fast paced and I was much more invested in the characters. I think you could probably get away with reading this one on its own, but you will miss a lot of depth and background without the first book. I loved the dynamic between the two main characters, Ava and Eliot, and I also really loved the new and returning characters in this book. All of my favorites were there and the new additions really added to the story. I absolutely flew through this book and can't wait for the next one. I appreciate that it did not end on a cliffhanger, but did leave a lot of room for more books!

This is the second book in The Reed Files series. I recommend you read the first book, The Perfect Scam, before reading this book.
Elliot and Ada are back at it again. This time they run into each other while in Italy. Together, they must work to solve a way out from under the Italian Mafia's notice.
Opinion
This book is full of twists and turns and will certainly keep you on your toes. I appreciate that it has been left open for more. This is sure to be a great series of the Reeds bumping into each other and needing to find their way out of trouble.
I loved the reappearance of characters that were supposed to be gone. It added a nice change to what was going on. I also loved the cross between the right and wrong side of the law. Shore does a good job of making the wrong side seem perfectly fine with the Reeds.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Crimson House Books for providing me with an ARC of this book.

Hard to place this one. On the one hand it tries to be a crime caper where Ada and Eliot go to great lengths to break into safes and safety deposit boxes and save each other’s lives. On the other hand there are way too many people in this story that don’t think twice about blood splatters on the upholstery.

At least it didn’t end on a cliff-hanger.

This was a strong sequel in the Reed Files series, it had everything that I was hoping for. I enjoyed the spy elements and thought it worked together well with the characters. Susanna Shore has a great writing style that worked with what I wanted.
