The third book in the Rachel Savernake series but the first one I have read.

The Puzzle of Blackstone Lodge is set in Yorkshire in the 1930s. It is a locked room type mystery with a large number of characters to keep track of as well as a feast of clues to help the reader solve the mystery.

There was good character development and a good sense of place (and time), but I did not love Rachel. I couldn't connect with her and did not feel like she was an MC/sleuth I was rooting for.

On the whole I enjoyed the book and would read more in the series.

The Puzzle of Blackstone Lodge by Martin Edwards

Thank you to @netgalley, @dreamscapemedia, & #martinedwardsauthor for the opportunity to read this #advancedlistenercopy in exchange for my #honestbookreview! This book is available now.

Nell Fagan is a journalist seeking to solve a mystery of a man who mysteriously vanished after being locked in a gatehouse in a small Yorkshire village in 1606 and has occurred yet again 300 years later in 1930. Nell turns to the best sleuth she knows for help on the case, Rachel Savernake. It’s for the best she does because Nell disappears shortly thereafter and Rachel is left to pick up the pieces and crack the case. On her journey, Rachel travels to Blackstone Fell in Yorkshire where she partners with Jacob Flint, who is investigating a local fraud. Rachel will risk her life to crack the case, will she be successful?

This had Agatha Christie vibes and I loved it! Some solid twists at the end. So many creepy vibes and twisted intentions. I love a good seance in a story and this delivered on that front. This would be a fun mini series in the spirit of Sherlock. I recommend for those into mysteries.

The Puzzle of Blackstone Lodge combines historical fiction & a locked room murder mystery to tell the story of mysterious disappearances that occurred 300 years apart at this remote lodge. I enjoyed the Gothic setting along with how the use of both science and spiritual aspects combine for a unique mystery.

This is book number 3 in the Rachel Savernake Golden Age Mysteries series and now I’m going to go back to listen to the first two books!

Thank you @dreamscape_media and @netgalley for allowing me to listen to this audiobook ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.
