There are certain authors who are expert hook throwers -Steve Cavanagh is one of them. First page and I knew I wasn’t putting this book down until it was finished. I had no idea that it was going to be so much more than I was anticipating. Each page and chapter morphed into another possibility keeping the final resolution out of reach. I admit to having a few twinges of “maybe this has more to do with it than I thought.” And just when I thought it was all clear - bam - left turn, upside down and I was once again left with my mouth open. Just a super great, twisted up, turn me around kind of a well thought out mystery that isn’t over until the very last page. The “fear was literally killing me” - I felt it - how did Cavanagh create the kind of atmosphere that had me sucking for air and unable to put this book down. I am wondering how he will top this amazing psychological thriller.

Many many thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for a copy.

This is my first read by the author and wow it was quite twisty. I saw the Patricia Highsmith homage in the plot and smiled. I was not prepared for the twists it takes from there. It kept me on my toes and not wanting to put it down.

I will say it started out as a little bit of a slow burn, but that last half more than made up for it. Trust me when I say, don't read any more about this one and go in cold so nothing gets spoiled. If you like high concept cat and mouse, then go pick this one up.

This was a different book from others I've read. I enjoy books with multiple POVs and I was thrown for a loop when two periods of time came together. I didn't realize two of the POVs were from an earlier time. But I think it worked really well for this book. The book started ou really slow for me and I was afraid it would stay like that, but by the 2/3 point, the twists really started happening.

Thank you to NetGalley, Atria Books, and author Steve Cavanaugh for this gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

One of my favorite recent #suspensethrillers - I absolutely loved this one, although once again I found myself pulling my hair out over a main character’s naïveté and the situations she got herself into. Overall, though, this one is a fast paced, unputdownable, emotional trek that bends the rules of morality and empathy and will have you entertained throughout. One of the plot twists had me absolutely losing it and was pitch perfect - one of the others was slightly more foreseeable, but still well done.

Amanda is shattered by the kidnap and murder of her young daughter, and her husband’s suicide following the traumatic events. The only thing fueling her is revenge and her determination to end the life of the man she knows is responsible for the demise of her beloved family.

When she enters an emotional support group and finds a friend and ally whose emotions, feelings, and desires mimic hers exactly, she finally feels as if she is on the road to redemption. That is, until she finds herself trapped in the web of a mastermind con and years long hunt for blood that has turned into utter madness.

Amanda’s story is intertwined with that of Ruth, whose life is shattered, much like Amanda’s, when she is the victim of a break in and attempted murder, crushing body, psyche, and soul, and is forced to live with the brutal reality that her blue-eyed, suave would-be killer is roaming the streets - and, likely, coming back for her.

After DNF'ing Thirteen a few years back, I was worried Steve Cavanagh's style was just not for me. I was pleasantly surprised and thrilled the whole time reading this. It was so twisted in the best way. I was thinking it would be a typical "Strangers on a Train" plot but it proved me wrong. So many interweaving stories and characters that I wasn't sure how they would fit together but they did! I would love to see this one play out on screen,

I really enjoyed this book.

This one felt like you really had to focus in and pay attention because everything was important and had meaning behind it.

I liked that it was told from three points of view. It was enough to keep it interesting but did not get overwhelming.

I would recommend just going into this one as blind as possible. It basically centers around three women who all want revenge.

Overall, I would call this a must read for thriller lovers.

I love Strangers on a Train so I knew this was one, I couldn't pass up.

Amanda is angry. She wants revenge. She lost her family and the man who is responsible is walking free while hers are all gone. The police can't do anything about it. The man is powerful and careful. A bad decision places her in a court-ordered therapy group.

Wendy lost her daughter to a predator. She stalks him and wants nothing more than to make the man disappear.

These two women meet in group therapy and they strike up a conversation and share drinks at a bar. They both wish the men who destroyed their lives to cease to exist. This is where an idea develops. What if Amanda kills Wendy's guy and Wendy kills Amanda's? Could they do it?

In between these chapters, we also learn about Ruth, a woman who was attacked at her home. The man who attacked her had intense blue eyes that she won't ever forget. How is Ruth intercepting Wendy and Amanda's lives?

A great thriller from the opening scene! I was riveted to the chapters and I couldn't wait to reach the ending. Did I guess the main twist? Oh yeah, and very early on. However, it didn't take away any of the enjoyment.

I do wish the author would decide to bring Detective Farrow again. He was so interesting!

Cliffhanger: No

This was absolutely amazing!!!!

I loved how the little pieces came together. The foreshadowing that led to puzzle pieces being clicked into place.

We meet Ruth who has been violently attacked in her home when her husband is out with the guys. We meet Amanda who has been stalking her daughter’s killer and Naomi who Amanda meets at a supportive group. The three women all have a connection that is powerful and awakening.

There is so much trauma in this book. If you have any triggers I would be warned that this book has it all.

Even though this book is sad it is empowering and satisfying.

I gave this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!

So many plot twists. At about 80 percent in I had my hands over my eyes because I didnt know if I wanted to see what was coming up next. Phenomenal story.

I found Steve Cavanagh’s courtroom / crime dramas featuring Eddie Flynn really clever and compelling. So I was pleased to receive an advance reader’s copy to review from the publisher through NetGalley. As I started: Hmm, female protagonists. This is different. And it took awhile to build the backstory. BUT it’s got serial killers and devious schemes, amateur sleuthing and SO MANY TWISTS once we (think we) know the characters! In the end, I think this is one of Cavanagh’s best books.

Kill For Me Kill For You
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+++++++++
Author: Steve Cavanagh

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Atria Books and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

Synopsis: One dark evening on New York City’s Upper West Side, two strangers meet by chance. Over drinks, Amanda and Wendy realize they have much in common, especially loneliness and an intense desire for revenge against the men who destroyed their families. As they talk into the night, they come up with the perfect plan: if you kill for me, I’ll kill for you.

In another part of the city, Ruth is home alone when the beautiful brownstone she shares with her husband, Scott, is invaded. She’s attacked by a man with piercing blue eyes, who disappears into the night. Will she ever be able to feel safe again while the blue-eyed stranger is out there?

My Thoughts: This was a fantastic spin on Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train, and it really elevated the plot line with a bang. From the first sentence to the last sentence, this story riveted me to my core. There are books that you read that you forget the second you put it down, then there are books that you read that stay with you forever. I have only a handful of books on this forever list and this one was added. Cavanah’s storytelling ability is ingeniously twisty and his ability to navigate new creative ways of murder is mind blowing. On the Upper West Side, two strangers strike up a conversation and realize they have a lot in common, especially wanting revenge on the men that wreaked havoc in their lives. So they come up with a plan to swap murders. What could possibly go wrong? Then in another part of the city, Ruth is home along when she is brutally attacked by a man with piercing blue eyes. Will she ever fell safe again?

The story is narrated by several characters, offering a vast array of POV. Our main narrators are Ruth and Amanda, in third person; we have sprinkled in Scott (Ruth’s husband) and Detective Farrow (working both cases). The story starts as a slow burn the first quarter, then no holds bar on the tense suspenseful moments. There were times when I felt empathy for the characters, and then other times when I was questioning their behaviors, or horrified by the choices they were making. The characters were well developed, fleshed out, had depth, were mysterious, were secretive, and intriguing. The author’s writing style was complex, twisty, suspenseful, tense, thought-provoking, and absolutely brilliant. There are times when you have to suspend belief, but believe when I tell you, it is absolutely worth it. I would not overthink it, just read and enjoy.

At first, I was confused by the two storylines going. My mind working ahead thinking what does one have to do with the other. When the plot lines meet, my mind was blown. Then Cavanagh builds his plot into twisty layers, when you think the unpredictability has peaked, boom another twist. Then we have that ending, that explosive WOW 💥 ending that really blew my mind. The ending does leave one little thread uncovered, maybe that opens the door to a sequel? I hope so. There are lots of fantastic reviews for this book, believe A L L of them!

This thriller was captivating, compelling, gripping, and kept me wanting more and more with each word I read. There were parts that were predicable, but there were more that were unpredictable, that I did not see coming. The tension Cavanagh creates is so thick, you need a knife to cut through it. This story will take you on a reading rollercoaster. I know your TBR is probably already overwhelming, however, if you love thrillers, this is a MUST READ for you! If you love The Silent Patient or Strangers on a Train, you will LOVE this one. I highly recommend picking up today!!

I really enjoyed this book! The story drew me in right from the beginning and kept me guessing through the end. I loved the quick pacing and couldn't wait to find out what happened next. Overall, a great suspenseful, twisty read that you'll have a hard time putting down!

What a roller coaster of a ride. Multiple POV characters, at first hard to keep track of, then it makes sense, then it doesn’t then it all wraps up nicely. Just when you think you know who’s good and who’s bad you’re saying what the heck just happened. I’m looking forward to more from this author.

5 stars.

This was a very pleasant read and I loved it. Is this the most original story? No but I enjoyed this story so much. I think going into this one with little to no expectations really made me enjoy the story more. I didn't see the plot twist coming and I will defiantly be recommending this book in my YouTube videos.

Thank you Net Galley for this arc.

I am literally crying after finishing this. Such a satisfying but heartbreaking ending. This was truly a wild ride and I was on edge for the entire book.

I had a hard time keeping every character straight in the beginning. Then everything started making sense.......and then everything got confusing again. The author did a great job at keeping me guessing.

Kill for Me, Kill for You was an emotional thriller that I really enjoyed reading. While parts seemed a little too familiar (think Strangers on a Train), there were some surprising twists that I loved. This was almost a 5-star read for me, but I couldn't engage or understand Amanda. She sometimes did things out of character, but without any true development or change. That said, it was a minor dislike, and the book as a whole was a fun read.

I had the privilege of diving into "Kill for Me, Kill for You" courtesy of NetGalley and Atria, and what a thrill it was. Steve Cavanagh masterfully weaves multiple perspectives, including those of Amanda, Ruth, Detective Farrow, and Scott, creating a tapestry of intrigue and suspense.

At its core, the novel delves into the theme of revenge, drawing readers into a web of interconnected lives where justice and peace of mind hang in the balance. As a mother, I found myself quickly identifying with Amanda's quest for vengeance and her righteous anger.

The short chapters and shifting viewpoints kept me engaged from start to finish. Cavanagh expertly blindsided me with unexpected twists, keeping me on the edge of my seat and eagerly flipping pages to uncover the next revelation. The ending left me reeling, a testament to Cavanagh's skill in crafting a truly unforgettable thriller.

With its gripping plot, compelling characters, and jaw-dropping twists, "Kill for Me, Kill for You" has undoubtedly secured a place among my top reads of the year. Fans of thrillers won't want to miss this one.
