I really had a hard time connecting to the characters. But it was very well researched, and I liked the story in general.
I would say if you like this type of story with military aspects and a doc, then this is for you, but the style of writing i really liked and will be looking out for books from Miss Girke.

Thank you netgalley and the published for letting me read this!

This book was super fast paced which was exactly what i was looking for, and it didn’t disappoint at all. I didn’t see the twist coming and my heart broke for nate as he tried to process everything.

Will definitely be reading Demons in your heart when i get the chance!

That plot twist is a heartbreaker! As is Nate’s story, his spirit is broken after being kidnapped and tortured after a SEALs mission gone wrong. Now, he’s the ghost of the man he used to be and is just going through life numb to any feeling aside from guilt and shame.

Jessica Girke’s powerful writing made me feel all the feelings with how she describes everything that happened to Nate, vividly describing all the torture, anxiety attacks and guilt he feels.

But in comes Lynn, doctor, willing to help Nate move on from his trauma and enjoy life again. Lynn is a likeable character, a strong woman who passes through a lot in her quest to help Nate.

At a point in the book, I was a bit put off by the fact that the author kept referencing to the characters by the same physical features – his ocean blue eyes and her chestnut eyes and brown hair – over and over again. It didn’t prevent me from enjoying the book but something I noticed.

This was a wonderful emotional rollercoaster read!

Demons In Your Mind is book one of the Demons Duet and I can’t wait for the second book!

This was a solid 2.5 for me. The plot went a little too fast for my liking. I had a hard time connecting with the characters. There just wasn't enough time spent on building things up. I was confused when the POV would change mid chapter. I would highly recommend reading the TW on these if you decide to read. There are scenes involving torture, references of kidnapping and other traumatic experiences.

Lynn has been recruited by the CIA to live on base with a set of soldiers who works high level missions. She meets her new team of nurses and the soldiers she will be working with. All of them seem very nice and social except for the one they call Butch. She gets called in to the boxing ring after Butch has broken his comrades arm due to being caught off guard. She is intrigued by him. Why is he the way he is?

Butch has shut people out of his life. The only person that he is kind of sort of let in is his BF Oliver who he still works with. Butch has been through hell and was never able to make it to the other side besides being alive. He has terrible nightmares and accidentally hurts people when caught off guard. He has tried therapy that hasn;t worked but then Lynn moves to the compound and he finds himself opening up about his experiences. He finds himself feeling more settled when they sleep next to each other. He finds himself trusting someone for the first time in a long time.

All of that comes crashing down when Lynn betrays him in the worst way, but after she goes through a heartbreak he realizes he still wants to explore what they have together. But what will her consequences be from her actions? All that is explored in book 2 which to be honest I am not sure I will read due to my never ending TBR list.

Like I said, I didn't feel invested. The plot went way too fast for me. I found myself getting confused. I do want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Demons in Your Mind

Dr. Lynn Summers recently started working at the CIA Headquarters. There she nears Agent Nate Sheppard. Sheppard carries his own cross, suffering from PTSD. Lynn starts treating him and for the first time he has a chance of healing.
Feelings start to emerge and lines are drawn. Will they risk it all!? Can Nate find peace again?

The author has a very descriptive style which takes a moment to get used to, at times it borders on repetitiveness. If you can look past that, the story is unique and heartbreaking. But it’s also a take of love and hope, which the author handles very tenderly.

Also you can clearly see the amount of research the author has put into their book, especially when it comes to PTSD.
The characters are well crafted and the story is thought out well.

But… the plot twist? Are you kidding me? I did not see that one coming from a mile away!

Demons In Your Mind - Jessica Girke
4/5 STARS 1/5 SPICE

I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

WOW! WOW! WOW! First off we have to start from the end. That plot twist, I am not okay! And the heartbreak this book made me feel too. I felt sooooo many emotions while reading this. I was on the edge of my seat over the most minor details. I went into this thinking it would be a spicy romance book. It is not. I am not disappointed at all. This book is guaranteed to give you butterflies and giggles. It will have you kicking your feet in the air! I was losing my marbles when they went into the kitchen and had the orange juice. I will never have a simple glass of OJ again. I don't want to say too much because I think reading the description and diving into this blind is the way to go. Just know I would totally have given this 5 stars if it wasn't for a few hiccups.

Why I didn't give this book 5 stars...

It was not believable, especially in the beginning. It felt like a cheesy CIA movie. The way that they referred to the mafia as Mafia Boss and he ran a mafia clan, also mafiaso? The whole prologue really upset me for that reason. I was able to move past this and really enjoy this book but it had that feeling throughout it too.

I know Lynn was the doctor but HOW was EVERYONE getting hurt that much!!!! Including her!!!!! That was wild!!!!
