I requested this one because it might be an upcoming title I would like to review on my Youtube Channel. However, after reading the first several chapters I have determined that this book does not suit my tastes. So I decided to DNF this one.

The Neighbors We Want had an interesting plot line that failed to fully grab me. Adam, a stay-at-home dad developed an obsession with his neighbor Ali. One night he sees her ex-boyfriend in her house and then finds out that Ali may have disappeared. This made me think of The Woman in the Window and got me excited but it was nothing like that. This book is filled with unlikeable characters who are not good people.
Most of the reasons these characters are not good people lean into spoilers so I won’t say them. I will just give one that is not a spoiler, Adam is a stay-at-home dad because he got fired from his job for looking at porn. Great guy.
What I respect about this book is it never got over-the-top crazy. The plot points and the twists were all practical. None of them were mind-blowing. With the exception of one major reveal, all of the secrets were something that regular people (regular people who are not good people) could experience.
If you like practical books with elements of mystery then this is one for you.

Alright, folks, let's talk about this audiobook I dove into. Imagine this—there's this neighborhood, right? And let me tell you, it's got more secrets than a magician's hat. And guess what? The whole shebang evolves into this home detective story that's like a rollercoaster on steroids. But here's the kicker—don't go expecting those mind-bending, jaw-dropping moments that make you question your existence. Nope, it's more like a wild yet somber journey, real as life itself. Think less heart-pounding thriller and more of that suspense that keeps you guessing when you can't find the TV remote.
So, here's the deal—picture yourself lounging in this seemingly mundane neighborhood, just sippin' on your coffee. But then, wham! There's a hidden realm of secrets ready to explode. And guess what? This story grabs you by the collar and drags you on this rollercoaster. Now, don't get me wrong, it's not trying to knock your socks off. It's more like you're sitting shotgun with the characters, sharing their highs and lows.
Now, don't even get me started on these characters—they're juggling some pretty hefty baggage. This ain't your run-of-the-mill shock-value drama; it's a dive into raw, honest feelings. There ain't gonna be any jump scares here; nah, you're in for an emotional uppercut that'll leave you pondering things.
But here's where the audiobook gets a little funky. See, the narrator? Yeah, they've got this vibe like they're just reading the phone book. The way they convey the tension and suspense? Let's just say, if they were a cat, curiosity would've sent them to an early grave. And don't even get me started on the punchy emotions—more like a monotone Sunday sermon. You'd think they're narrating their grocery list.
Now, let's set the record straight—it's not your high-octane thriller. It's like peeking through a neighbor's window and realizing their life ain't all sunshine and roses. Relationships? Oh, they're as tangled as a bunch of earphones in your pocket. Secrets come crawling out of the woodwork, and it's not like they're lighting up the sky with a dazzling fireworks display. It's more like you're sitting in the backroom with your ear to the keyhole, eavesdropping on your neighbor's latest scoop.
So, summing it up, folks, this audiobook—a home detective story in a neighborhood that's got more secrets than an unsolved crossword puzzle—is quite the ride. Just be ready for the narrator who might make you wish you had an option for a voice makeover. But hey, if you're up for a dive into a world of twists, turns, and human drama, go grab those headphones and jump right in!

I could not get into this. Lots of vulgar sexual language. I skipped ahead, went back, went ahead again, anything to try to grab my attention. Just couldn't get into it.

I am so thankful to Tim Lane, Crooked Books, Dreamscape Media, and Netgalley for granting me advanced audiobook access to this twisted domestic thriller before this baby hits shelves on September 5, 2023.
