The story is brought to life with emotions as it takes you away to a warm setting. The characters are well played and likeable. The facts of the era are woven through the pages beautifully.

As with all of Fenella's books set in WWII, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Fenella clearly researches her subject well. This has a little bit of everything, humour, romance, drama, fun and friendship. I love the way the author puts across that people from all walks of life can be good friends.
Unusually for Fenella, this appeared to be a standalone book, and I'm not sure it should have been. It felt like a bit of an abrupt ending and I would like to have seen at least one more book after this. I hope I'm wrong though and that it is to become part of a series :)

Fenella J Miller tells this story of Hannah who comes from a well to do background but has left home without telling anybody where she is.

She has done so to become a land girl where she meets handsome Jack Rhodes who is in the RAF. She has feelings for him but tries to hide them as she doesn’t want him to discover who she really is as this may put him off. However their romance escalates quite quickly.

The characters are fun and believable and as Hannah’s life story emerges throughout the book it’s appeal heightens. The book is set in 1941 so is excellent for those who love a WW2 backdrop.

Highly recommended.

This book isn't on Goodreads for some reason under this title but I did find it under Hannah's War and I posted my review there.

Such a great story. I enjoyed it tremendously.

Hannah is a land girl working farms to help with the war effort until one night she has an accident and she can't work on the farm until she is healed. Living in a town close to an RAF base they can hear planes take off and then count them when they get back. Little does Hannah know she is going to fall in love with an RAF pilot but something happens one night when a plane doesn't come back to base. But Hannah stumbles upon a German pilot who has been shot down. What does she do? Does she protect him from being executed on the spot? Does she turn him in? Will she be caught protecting him and be called a traitor?

Fenella J. Miller has a wonderful way of weaving a wonderful WWII historical fiction novel. I have read a few of them and I love every one of them. I couldn't put this one down. The characters are wonderful.

Highly recommend.

It is 1941, and Hannah has run away from home to become a landgirl, because of a dark secret. When she meets Jack, a handsome pilot at a dance, she feels attracted to him, but scared of men, she doesn't want to do anything about it. When she discovers a German pilot who has been shot down and injured, she starts helping him, knowing that his colleagues shot Jack's friends down in cold blood. Now she could be accused of treason!

There is a lot of action in this exciting story, and Hannah was a lovely heroine, although I missed Fenella J. Miller's usual characters. However, it's well-researched, and Miller's excellent research helps to involve you in the heightened wartime atmosphere. Miller is also good at writing chapters from the man's point-of-view, which I enjoy. I look forward to her next one!

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I enjoyed this book. It’s set in 1941. Hannah, a land girl works with Betty and Ruby at Pond Farm.

They get an opportunity to go to the local dance wit boys from a RAF base. At the dance Hannah, has feelings for Jack, but tries to not make them known, as she’s got a secret and she feels once he knows that, he won’t want to know her.

But there’s another secret she’s not disclosing, one which could get her in trouble with the police.

There’s a lot happening throughout the story, making you continue turning the pages to know what happens next.

I highly recommend this book.

I found this book quite emotional in places but on the whole it was another good war time book from Fenella Miller

Thank you for the chance to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion.

I have read all of Fenella J Miller's Goodwill House series and saw this one and requested it but hadn't realised it had been published before, but I knew that I had not read it before thankfully. (I rarely reread a book)

This book was well researched and a great story. There were strands from Hannah's life that wove through the book and affected her and how she acted greatly - she had been badly treated by a previous suitor.

Hannah could be annoying at times - she should have made more of her privileged background when it became apparent that Jack loved her. I suppose in wartime there was a tendency for love to be rushed especially for RAF pilots. There were a lot of characters but this is to be expected within village life with an RAF base nearby and farmland.

I found the bit with the German pilot slightly odd - though I understood in some ways how Hannah felt and how Jack might react. Jack did use his pistol, then lose it then miraculously have it back again - I presume he had been given another?

This was another triumph of Fenella's and I look forward to her next new book

The Land Girl’s Secret

This is a rollickiing love story. set in WWII Great Britian, that lightly skims over a number of issues to find a happy ending. A rape, attempted murder, giving aid and comfort to the enemy, death of servicemen who are close friends, etc are obstacles here on the path of true love.
A good read, but lacks depth.

This book did not work for me. It's a very light read with a very thin storyline. The heroine is not all that likable and quite silly at times. Everything is settled far too easily, sometimes even within a page or two. She has this momentous secret, it comes out and then almost immediately it's forgotten about. There's a lot going on in the story but nothing seems to tie together. and there are so many characters I found it hard to keep track of who was who, especially as some of them were only mentioned early on and again later without anything to make them stand out so I forgot who they were. I didn't buy the love story. It was very weak. The characters had no dept to them and the ending was completely rushed.
I know this author has her fans, it just wasn't for me.

Gorgeous story, loved every minute reading it. Love affair which you don’t know will last. Working in difficult times with friends, seeing how people react to difficult times. Very authentic story which I’d love to read ongoing sagas.

I loved this book. It was such a sweet story set in difficult times when families are separated by war. I always enjoy Fenella's books and this one hit the spot for me. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Another great read from Fenella j miller, after reading the goodwill house series I was looking forward to this, and it didn’t disappoint. Lots of twists and turns in the story, I ended up staying up much later than I intended to finish it. Great family saga from a great author ⭐️

I enjoyed this story of a Land Girl in war-torn England in 1941 in a small town next to the Air Force base. Hannah not only wanted to help the war effort, but she also wanted to be far away from her life after a very horrible event she found herself at Pond Farm. She meets a very charming RAF pilot at the local dance and after an accident for this very accident-prone young lady, Hannah has to stay in town as she recovers and she finds herself in a situation with a moral dilemma.

I enjoy reading war romances and found this book to be a fast-paced and quick read while I was lying in bed on a sick day off from work. It helped me feel better. However, my only concern with the book was the final chapter. I felt that the story ended too abruptly, and I was left feeling a little disappointed by the ending. I had become invested in the characters and had hoped to experience their happiness as they continued on with their lives.

Set in 1941
Hannah is a Land girl at Pond farm along with Betty and Ruby. Mr Boothroyd works them hard, so they are delighted when they get the opportunity to go dancing with boys from the RAF base. Hannah becomes attracted to Jack, but tries to resist as she is hiding a secret that makes her sure he would be put off were he to find out.
That’s not the only secret Hannah wants to keep to herself, the other could land her in terrible trouble with the police an lose the ones she loves.
Plenty going on throughout the book to keep you reading. My favourite character was Joan, landlady at the White Hart.

I’ve been loving the War Girls of Goodwill House by this author so anything else I see by her, it’s an auto read. She always manages to encompass all the wartime vibes, drama and feel whilst keeping compelling reading.

This one was a fast paced, quick read where we meet Hannah, a clumsy land girl who has a penchant for getting herself into sticky situations! She was an easy character to like and it also made for easy effortless reading as you follow the story round.

There was a twist I wasn’t expecting and I thought I had pegged out for how it would all end, but I was wrong! I also loved Joan’s character and she was a real mother hen which was endearing. There was plenty of on the edge of your seat moments and I seemed to finish it in no time.

Overall I enjoyed the story and always look forward to more books from this author.

I read a lot of WWII fiction, and I am always grateful when an author comes along with something a little different. This book has a bit of a twist to it, a moral question/choice that reverberates throughout the entire novel that will make the reader think. And I love books like that, that make me think what I would do in a given situation. The writing and romance were strong, and Fenella Miller just became a new go=to author for me!

There is a lot to love and enjoy while reading The Land Girl's Secret. I enjoyed it for the WW2 historical fiction aspect. I gained a lot of knowledge regarding the time period as I was taken back in time. That being said, the Land Girl's Secret is so much more that a wartime story. It is a story of survival. It is a story of love.

Land girls work the fields in a small village while the men are away at war. They are doing their part for the war effort. For Hannah it is so much more than feeding pigs, milking cows and sloshing in muck. She fled her life after the unthinkable happened and is now hiding in the least likely place to be found. It is through Hannah's experiences that I got to experience the difficulties surrounding war.

The reader gets to experience life in the small village. The pages are colored with different attitudes and character traits. I didn't always understand some of granddad's beliefs about the war. Reading The Land Girl's Secret was enlightening. I can't say I totally get his attitude but I definitely have a better understanding of the animosity.

England was immersed in the war, but life went on. Hannah finds the unexpected in a pilot by the name of Jack. He risks his life everyday but compassion remains. My heart was a gooey mess with some of the sweetness Jack showed for Hannah.

Hannah and Jack definitely got the villagers talking. There was always something and that something would have me excited to turn the next page just to see what came next. There was a lot of laughing going as I read about village life and all of the drama that occurs.

It wasn't all fun and laughs. There were stark reminders of the horrors of war. Being near a base, loss was inevitable. Thanks to the deep personal relationships within the village and at the pub I was able to understand some of the emotions. My tears were real for a story that felt real.
