Thank you to Orbit Books and Netgalley for providing me with an eARC of this book!
The name of this book alone deserves awards, and honestly it was exactly what I was expecting and hoping- a kind of silly, fun little romance with a hot demon. Unfortunately for me I think the humor fell a little flat for me more often than not, which was disappointing. Cinnamon's internal monologues just were not as funny for me as I wish they would've been. I was pleasantly surprised that Cinnamon wasn't immediately on board to start a relationship with Fallon; very, very often I get frustrated when the women are immediately jumping in bed with an obviously dangerous and kinda messed up dude just because he's hot so it was nice that Cinnamon at least held out for a little bit. This would not, of course, be a romance if she didn't give in eventually but at least she actually kinda thought through it. But a special shoutout to Fallon for just immediately deciding he wanted her as his wife- I too look for potential wives based on the way they wrestle alligators. I did really like their relationship, it was very cute and I had a really good time reading about their adventure together!
The non-romance, purely fantasy reader in me really, really wanted so much more worldbuilding than what we got. I know this isn't a purely fantasy book, it is absolutely a romance novel and so the plot and the world are very much not the point. But the world was so interesting! I want to know more about humans and demons living together and coexisting, and just exactly how Myva came to be and how she wormed her way into the human mythology. This was an interesting case of a very good romance with kinda meh worldbuilding, which I usually don't mind in my romances, but this time I just really liked the world too and wanted so much more of it! I have a list of questions Kimberly Lemmings, if you wanna just write an entire field guide to the world and different types of demons only.
Overall this was a pretty solid and fun read, and a great start to the reading year! Looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

I don't even know how to say how much I loved this book. In the winter months, I get pretty down and this book pulled me out of my winter blues. Not a joke, I read this in one night and it made me laugh and feel like I could get stuff done that I'd been putting off, lol.
That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon is one of those hilarious fantasy stories that I will come back to over and over again. Kimberly Lemming is now on my list of authors to watch out for!

I enjoyed this book more than I expected to! It was light and fluffy. The banter was cute/funny. Cinnamon is so relatable and I loved the diversity that we don’t often get in fantasy.
I feel like this was a great mix of romcom and fantasy elements. I actually found myself laughing out loud during a few parts!
It did take me a bit to get used to the writing style as it’s a very light hearted and as some people pointed out, very much stream of consciousness type writing. I think it was a great palette cleanser since I tend to read heavier fantasy romances.
The story was great, characters were fun! I will be reading more by this author for sure!

Such a fun, fast paced book! I loved the modern dialogue paired with a fantasy quest plot. The chemistry between Cin and Fallon was instant!

I feel like 2024 is the year of the cozy. I say it every year, but cozy fantasy really hit mainstream in 2023, and I think that momentum is going to propel it in major feels this year. I’m horrible with titles, but That Time I Got Drunk and Saved A Demon is one I won’t soon forget!
We have the most wonderful MC in Cin. She’s hilarious, straight up, and lets all her intrusive thoughts win. Her banter with Fallon had me giggling off the charts. Their adventure was fun for me, and I was so sad this book was so short. I wanted to read hundreds of pages more of this duo!
If you’re a fan of the below, this one if for you:
🍻Enemies to lovers
🍻 Hilarious banter
🍻 Touch her and cry
🍻 Spice w/“good girl” praise
Out tomorrow, the 2nd!

I'm not into faes, demons, and orcs, but That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming was fun!
The story itself was quick and to the point. An evil witch tricked her colony, and now Cinnamon has to save them and other creatures from the witch's deception. Along the way, she pairs up with a demon and falls in love. It's a pure enemies-to-lovers trope that turned out so cute and kinky. I loved how easygoing the story was and how well-written it turned out.
Overall, I rated it 3.5 stars. Cinnamon is a very relatable character that I can't wait to hear more about and I'm definitely checking out Lemming's next in her Mead Mishap series.

I loved this cozy fantasy featuring a black main character that doesn't hide her love of food. This book was funny, fast-paced, and a joy to read. I can't wait to dive into the rest in this series.

This book made the rounds on book Twitter back when it first came out so of course, me being the inveterate monster lover I am, I picked it up. I couldn’t get into it though and chalked it up to it being a me-issue at the time and resolved to try again later. When I saw that Orbit was releasing the books with incredibly hot new covers I decided that time was now. And this time? Oh boy, did this book ever work for me! A great mix of humor, steam and warm hugs, it’s the perfect book to pick up if you want something light hearted and quickly paced.
As you can probably tell from her name, Cinnamon’s one of a several in a spice-obsessed farming family. Unlike many of the other adults her age, she’s not interested in adventure. She just wants to chill, drink beer and eat cheese – basically, a quiet and peaceful life surrounded by her family. Her chances of that evaporate, though, when she’s chased down by a demon intent on killing her – at least until she smacks him in the face with some of her namesake spice. Even more surprising is that demon, Fallon, showing up the next morning and explaining that their so-called goddess has imprisoned the demons in a frozen wasteland and cast spells on them that make them go berserk. Breaking the goddess’ sacred chalice in the village temple is the only way to free them – but Fallon needs Cinnamon’s help. How hard could breaking one little chalice be?
So, first off, the setting. Cin’s village is set in a Louisiana-like bayou, complete with crawfish boils, file powder and alligators, with other areas resembling Italy or the Nordic countries. It’s vaguely Ye Olde Anglo-medieval but the characters are anything but. They use modern slang and frequently have modern sensibilities (“of course the dress has pockets!”) and the juxtaposition can be jarring if hilarious. But it also means we get to see a Black Creole woman kicking ass fantasy-style.
“You just threw my brother across the room!”
“Would it have been more polite to let him gut me? I admit I’m unfamiliar with human customs, but I doubt your greetings are that extreme.”
I rose and pointed a finger at him. “You tried to kill me last night!”
“Semantics.”
And Cin is amazing. Her POV is a joy – frank and effortlessly hilarious – and I spent most of my time reading this book with a huge smile on my face. While she’s undeniably a homebody – for which she has Reasons – that doesn’t mean she isn’t brave or quick to step in when others need help. Maybe sometimes too quick to step in. Fallon’s a bit more of a puzzle. At heart he’s kind and protective, a sort of Labrador retriever demon (mixed with German shepherd when someone he cares about is threatened). Of course his motivation is to free the demons, and since he can’t enter the temples himself, he needs Cin’s help – and he might as well tease the human while he’s at it. But it only takes four days before he declares that Cin’s going to be his wife. There are reasons for it – I mean, Cin is badass – but it’s still very instalove. Cin was attracted to him despite herself almost immediately and the chemistry between them is very hot. And the banter! Oof. But I would’ve liked to spend more time with them as the romance aspect felt rushed to me.
“What if the evil demon seduced you away from your better judgment?” Warm lips graced my ear, making me shiver. “I can be your villain,” he whispered.”
As for cons, there are quite a few heavier topics introduced which make me hesitate from labelling this a cozy romance despite its overall light-hearted vibe. I mean, the core of the book is the characters trying to save the demons from what’s effectively genocide. It’s harder to get much heavier than that. The treatment of demons in general is terrible, including a city where it’s morally acceptable to enslave and abuse them. Needless to say, the MCs take care of this, but in a very Old Testament-type way that didn’t sit right with me. And on top of that there are threats of sexual violence against the heroine which, frankly, I think the book would’ve been fine without. For the most part, I don’t think Cin’s frequently humorous narration downplays these topics. It’s more like Cin is focused on solving them and, since this is a fantasy novel, she can. And seeing some of the bad guys get their just desserts was very satisfying for me.
Overall, this is a quick and funny read, an excellent example of a fantasy romcom. While I wish we could hang out with Cin and Fallon longer, I’m definitely looking forward to the next couple in the next book!
I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon is about Cinnamon, a spice farmer, who just wants to live a simple quiet life. Just when she think she’s “dodge the bullet” of being selected as a hero for the goddess, she stumbles upon a man who needs help. Come to find out, he’s a demon! Next thing she knows, she is now going in an adventure she didn’t ask for.
This book was a bit spicier than I expected! I don’t read any spicy books so this was quite the ride *wink wink*. Lemming knows how to write a really fun story! Cinnamon was hilarious and reading some of her inner monologue had me chuckling. The romance was a bit quick but not super unrealistic. I’ve seen love happen faster! Overall, I enjoyed the story and the plot. My only qualm is the slang. It throws some of the atmosphere of the book off when language like the word “sus” is used. Super fun and fast read! 4 stars!!

I absolutely love this series! It’s so much fun!
It all began with Cinnamon... who does not go on adventures and isn’t brave and no quests for her... nope... that’s stuff other people do. She’s content to stay in her nice safe village with family and friends around and it’s been working on for her. At least until she meets a dragon on her way home and accidentally lifts a horrible curse on him. And she might learn that all is not what it seems in the wider world and that the goddess that protects everyone isn’t who she says she is. Everything she knows it abruptly turned on its head and somehow that ends with her going on a quest of her own. Which she doesn’t do and doesn’t want to do but the dragon insists. Especially since he’s not the only one effect by this curse all the “demons” who are just people of a supernatural variety are also dealing with this curse. So Cinnamon leaves home and finds adventure, new friends and shenanigans along the way. She also may or may not become a pirate.
Everything about this book is enjoyable and often hilarious. Who knew getting drunk and saving a demon could lead to the adventure of a life time?

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own.
I first read this in 2022 and had a lot of fun with it, so I was excited to hear it got picked up by Orbit, inspiring my reread. It’s just as fun and silly as I remember, and I love how quirky it is, but in a *good* way?! Cinnamon literally does get drunk at the beginning and she falls for Fallon. Their relationship does have BDSM, so it’s definitely not an entirely “cozy” read, but it’s “cozy” by the standards of monster romance. But there’s also a lot going on beyond the steam, so provided you’re informed about what you’re getting into, it’s a solid read if you want a fantasy romcom.

This was a quick and easy read! I like that it was set in a fantasy world, but used modern language! Super funny!

This book was everything I was expecting. It was funny. It was cute. It was smutty.
I know this book was popular on BookTok a while back, it was always on my TBR but when they had the cover change I knew it was time to give it a chance.
I loved the pacing of this book. I like the story and the silliness aspect it has. I loved both main characters and how their relationship develops with the plot. I say judge this book but the cover because the cover is stunning and the story is so great.
I got an e-arc of this book on NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Who would I be if I didn't like this book. This book is fluffy, smutty and sooo cheesy. But it's exactly what I needed after reading heavy, long (an slightly confusing) books. This story read like a fan fiction in all the best ways.

The perfect combination of cozy fantasy & romance. I absolutely adored this book.
Cinnamon is a girl who absolutely does not want adventure in her life and that was so easy to relate to. She's content with the life she has but some how she ends up drunk and saving a demon who whisks her off into an adventure. Fallon is just to die for. He is so sweet but also so much more. He is protective and viscous when he needs to be. The spice was the icing on the cake making this a perfect read for me. I absolutely loved every minute and cannot wait to read more of Kimberly's books!
Thank you so much for the ARC!

Love, Love, Love, Love, Love!
This was a fast and easy read with a fun and exciting complex story. I am not sure why I thought this was going to be a cozy fantasy, but it absolutely was not. This book was very fast paced and action packed. I read this book in a single sitting (Which ended up being about an hour and a half) because I just couldn't put it down.
This book follows Cinnamon who is a spice farmer and all she wants is to live a simple life as a spice farmer and spend time with her family. Unfortunately for her, she gets drunk and accidentally save a demon. It turns out that the demons aren't really bad, they have just been under a curse set by an evil witch. The demon Cin saves asks her to come on a quest to save all of the demons that have been under the spell of a horrible witch. The quest is filled with many challenges and a whole lot of humor.
I laughed out loud so many times while reading this. It was a kind of cheesy humor that I love that just left me giddy. I also loved the romance in this. It is very insta-lust in the sense that Fallon is smitten with Cin from very early on, but Cin is convinced that Fallon is an enemy demon that will go away when this quest is over.
I highly, highly recommend this book if you love monster romance, or even if this is your first ever monster romance. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

This is a republication! Obit Books picked it up and is giving it the traditional treatment. In fact they will be publishing all 3 books in this series which is super exciting! This is book 1 in the Mead Mishaps series. I know a romance hater reading romance, who even am I? but I wanted something light and cozy and this fit the budget. So it is a romantasy romcon about a human and a demon. Cinnamon lives in a small village on her family's spice farm. One day she gets drunk and accidentally saves a demon, as the title doesn’t leave out, from a witch who has enslaved him. A ton of spice, it’s hilarious, sex scenes make me laugh no matter how serious they are so it was honestly fun. It is set in a medieval setting which is my favorite so look out for this at the beginning of January.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.5⭐️
If you loved Legends and Lattes or Dungeons and Dragons but also love a little spice, this book is for you! Cinnamon accidentally saves a demon on while walking home intoxicated, and the attractive demon seeks her out the next day. Their attraction and feelings grow for each other as they set out on an adventure to slay a false-goddess. They run into different fun characters who add to the fun and fight. I hope some of the characters get their own novels in this series.
In this story, you have interracial love, support for curvy women, praise-kink, and ‘he falls first.’ Enjoy!

This was a fun romp, definitely enjoyed. Thank you for the advanced copy, I was looking forward to reading this. I enjoyed the campiness of the book and the humor and the adventuring. Cozy fantasy with a touch of naughtiness.

This is exactly what I needed. Action, adventure, spicy, fantasy giving romcom vibes at the same time?! Had me grinning, giggling and kicking my legs like a school girl whose crush winked at her.
