Demon smut 🤝 adventure to save the world

This was a super easy, quick read that gives you basically everything in less than 200 pages.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Pub Date: January 16, 2024

This was a quick, fun book that didn't take itself too seriously. Some great humor, great banter, great characters to root for (or against!). Plenty of action and adventure too! The first line just hooked me: "I had only two things on my mind: cheese and how to get home." - this book was clearly written with me in mind haha!

If spice isn't your thing I would suggest skipping though, or at least there will be a few scenes that you will wind up skipping as a heads up :)

I saw this book being touted as a cozy fantasy in the similar fashion of Legends and Lattes and so I immediately put on my TBR list. I was excited when I saw that this book was picked up by a new publisher (Orbit) and was able to get the Advanced Reader Copy. I thought this book was super cute. I read some reviews that were upset that the language was modern and that it didn't seem accurate (something about cinnamon bark/farm/trees). That didn't bother me at all. This is a fantasy book. It's set in a made up world where there are demons, dragons, werewolves, orcs and humans. If you need a fun, easy read this book was perfect. I read it in one sitting. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

Five out of five hundred stars. I haven't been this delighted in a book in such a long time. I need more books immediately. This is such a fun and entertaining read. My only complaint is that it isn't longer. These characters are interesting and charming and I just want to hang out with all of them.

It's such a nice balance between the steamy scenes and the action of hunting down the false goddess. This is a must read for everyone because you can't read this and not fall in love with this world and these amazing characters.

3.8! I really enjoyed this author’s writing! The spice and the humor was there! Our heroine was such a force and hilarious af! This was my first time reading Ms.Lemming and it certainly wont be my last! My only problem with this book was the antagonist! The buildup and her myth was just boring! I didnt get the hype but i appreciated the adventure it ensured for Fallon Cin and the gang! Looking forward to the next in the series!!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC and the opportunity to read a series that I have heard a lot about recently and had on my radar.

I'm confused. I feel like I may be the only person I know who did NOT like this. Am I going to continue? Yes, only because I requested the others and they're short, but this was NOT good....

It feels like it wants to take place in the past in quaint villages where traders come around monthly and people make their own spices and cheese to sell. Where the townspeople have grown up and have children and basically no one ever leaves. However, right away, I couldn't help but cringe as our main character was using words like "suss" and "bro". It was awful and took me right out of the story.

I get it that I'm not reading this for peak literature and it's just supposed to be maybe comfy and cozy and smutty, but it was not believable in the slightest. Within four days, our main characters are talking marriage and I just frankly don't buy it. I didn't feel like there was any real chemistry. It was just a demon wanting to have sex with a human and the human attracted to him.

I'm glad the story was short because I would have hated to have invested more time and I am sad that I blindly requested all three and feel committed because I don't have really high hopes of liking any others in this series, but I suppose we will see.

I had a great time reading this book! I love the family and friend group dynamics; they made everything feel that much deeper. If you're looking for a story with fantasy and comedy with a good handful of romance to spice it up, this book is definitely for you!

I really liked that time I got drunk and saved a demon. It is a fun and smutty book. It has many of the markers of fantasy romance novels that are a little light on plot and focused on romance. I think there are several things in the book that could have been better developed, but I read it during finals week, and it was so fun and exactly what I needed.

This book just wasn't for me. It was no fault of the book, but fantasy and cozy fantasy are not usually my jam except for a very niche bunch. I did like all the food references. I got hungry every time I started reading this book. I would still definitely recommend this series to anyone who likes cozy fantasy with romance and spice.

I thought that this was super fun! I don't think I have ever read something like this, and it felt like a breath of fresh air. I loved Cinnamon as a main character- she was hilarious! This would have been a five star for me but I just found it a little hard to get into all of the battle scenes. It all made sense for the storyline though, and I was happy that it didn't completely take me out of the story. The spice was top tier! I believed the couple's chemistry and am so excited for the next installment.

Cinnamon is an ordinary spice farmer from a small town by a bayou until she gets drunk one night and gets attacked by a demon on her way home! She manages to get away, only to find out the next morning that the cinnamon she whacked the demon with was the key to awakening him from his madness induced by their false goddess. Now, she has to go on a journey with this unfortunately hot demon to destroy the chalices of this lich and free the demons.

A quick and fun read. If you're looking for epic adventure or worldbuilding, this may not be for you. But if you like spice in your cozy fantasy, a black female protagonist, and a devoted lover who will burn down the world for the woman here loves, this is definitely for you. The author knows her tropes and she writes them well.

The cover drew me in with POC main characters and the hilarious title, but the funny joking between the MC’s, the sibling rivalry, and the quest of a lifetime with a hot demon dragon?? Phew that’s what got me to finish this book within a day. I loved Cinnamon and Fallon’s energy the whole book, especially their playful banter. We met some fun side characters, which seems like they pop up in the next couple of books, making me already looking forward to reading the novella and the second book! There were a few times I was confused on what form Fallon was in once it was revealed he was a dragon. For example the didn’t change for his dragon voice too often, like holding or italicizing to make it easier to figure out the difference from him speaking as a human vs as his dragon. The writing would also say things like “his hands” making me think he was back in his human form, when really it meant his dragon hands (would those be paws technically though?? Or something else??).

Kimberly Lemming wrote a cozy, funny, and cute fantasy story that is great on its own, but is also a great palette cleanser if anybody has a book hangover and needs a good kick again to get going again. Can’t wait to read her other books!

This was such a fun read! Monster rom com that truly delivered! I liked that Kimberly Lemming melded elements of traditional fantasy with modern day slang and comedy. As someone who reads a slew of romantasy novels, it gets to a point where styles start to merge, but KL definitely stood out.

Thank you to Kimberly Lemming, Orbit, and NetGalley for the complimentary ebook. I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

Big thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an ARC of this book. That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon is a fun Rom-com fantasy book. I needed this read more than I could say. I giggled in some scenes and laughed outright in others.

Cinnamon wanted a quiet life with friends, family, wine and cheese (same girl!). But after accidentally saving a demon while drunk (I did say wine), she gets volun-told into going on a great adventure to help said demon destroy an evil witch. Fallon is yummy and funny and when you add Cin and the misfit band they create together, you get a fun rump of a book. Perfect for hard days, and harder nights, to get you to laugh all while enjoying their sexy time, and there are sexy fun fun times. I absolutely recommend this book.

This book was so incredibly fun! This is a bit outside of my normal genre, but I found this book being hilarious, witty and spicy of course. I also love that this book is Black authored - there are so many references to Cinnamon and her Black hair care and that made me so happy! I also really enjoyed Fallon's level of possessiveness. I thought that it would get kind of weird and creepy, but it was JUST enough!

I really loved this. It made me laugh so many times. The spice was good and there was adventure. This was everything I didn't know I needed and now I'm obsessed!

If you are looking for a quick fantasy journey with a side of spicy. This is absolutley the book for you. It is set in a fantasy world, but integrates things like Nachos for some humor. In the beginning it is a spice level 1 (not counting the fact that the main character is named Cinnamon and is a Spice Farmer)....while the end it becomes a 4-5 spice level.

The story is fun and is a good break in between heavier fantasy novels.

This was such a fun read! I am not normally a romance girlie...especially when there is spice involved, but this book is definitely the exception to the rule. The spice was tactful, the humor and witty banter was on point, the plot was present. What more could you ask for?

I really enjoyed this book. Some of the spicy bits weren’t to my taste and sometimes left me laughing instead of the intended effect but still it worked out ok. All of the characters were fun but Fallon could have been a little less Fifty Shades of Gray (grey?) and a little more caring. It’s funny that some reviews mentioned there weren’t enough sexy or spicy scenes and I felt there were maybe a little too many.

It was a fast paced and enjoyable read. This book is like a cozy, slightly sexy light litrpg with a dash of monster romance. So basically right up my alley.

I’m going to try the rest of the series.

Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to read and review this ARC!

I absolutely loved this story. Cinnamon quickly became one of my favorite heroines and Fallon is an absolute dream.

The story was campy, fun, and cozy all mixed into one with a lil smut sprinkled in.

It’s humor, it’s smut, it’s fantasy, it’s romance. What more could you want?
