Thank you to the publish and NetGalley for this review copy.

I found this book before it got picked up by Orbit Publishing. I then got a review copy, and the book is still just as good. I love the characters and how quickly it's paced. The world felt lived in with characters with their own motivations. It is spicy, so be warned if that's not for you.

Rating 4/5

This book is so much fun and I really enjoyed every moment of it. Cin is completely relateable, she wasn't interested in adventures whatsoever and here she is smack dab in the middle of one. There is a great story going on along with the spice. Alot of spicy/smut book let that aspect take over the story but, this was a perfect balance. I also loved the side character and I hope we get to learn more about them and the world the author has created. Overall this book is fun and I can't wait to read more from this author. I am defitely a fan now.

CW: graphic violence, mention of sexual assault, disturbing imagery

From what I understand this is a reissue of the book with a new cover and maybe some grammatical corrections? Either way I was so excited to get to finally start the Mead Mishap series.

The world building was a lot more complicated than I was expecting and I’m not complaining! Our heroine Cinnamon’s entire life view gets upended within a hours of meeting Fallon (the titular demon).

Really the only word to describe this plot is capital r ROMP. It was a really fun read beginning to end. Cant wait to start the next in the series!

I absolutely adore this series and loved relistening to it on audio. TTIGDASAD had me laughing out loud from beginning to end and the spice was fantastic. A perfect quick read and one I'll run back to for a laugh time and time again.

Hazel Addison did a fantastic job bringing Cin to life and I loved all of her voices.

This indie-published and cheesy title of a book smacked the hell of my expectations. The second edition improved the rocky start (choppy writing) and focused on the strong sells of this book - the world-building, amazing characters and twists! “I can be your villain.” He whispered. “Why don’t you let me take away the burden of choice for a while?”

Cin is my favorite heroine from this author so far! So funny and strong.

I don't know the last time I laughed so often at a romance book other than the first time I read the self published version of this book. It was an absolute delight to revisit and see again what a damn simp Fallon is for Cinnamon and I can't wait to read it for a third time and fall in love all over again. No notes, frankly, simply incredibly easy to consume and love.

Holy smokes, what a ride! I’ve been hearing a lot about the second book in this series, so I was very happy when this book popped up on NetGalley for me. I absolutely loved this book! I went into it thinking it would be a bit of fluff, but it really wasn’t. It had danger, steam, adventure, a big bad, and so much banter. I laughed out loud, literally, at some points in the book. I adored the side characters. Fallon was so deliciously possessive, but Cinnamon wasn’t a roll-over-and-take-it kind of girl either. She was such a reluctant hero, but I was here for it. I can’t wait to read the second book!

I received a copy of That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon from NetGalley for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Cinnamon, a spice trader, prefers the quiet life and actively avoids adventure when she can. Despite this, she becomes wrapped up in mission with Fallon, a hot demon(!), to defeat an evil witch. This adventure may, or may not come with a heaping dish of romance. 😉

When I initially looked at reviews for this “too cozy” fantasy rom-com and read the in-description comparison to Legends and Lattes, I was not expecting the level of spice (pun intended) involved.
While it was a cute cozy fantasy, it did not feel like Legends and Lattes. The overall plot seemed very underdeveloped and rushed. The romance plot line shared equal spotlight with the fantasy/action plot and had a few more chili peppers than I was expecting. (Tbh, surprise spice redeemed one star of this review.)

Cinnamon as a MC was strong and funny. I enjoyed that she was portrayed as being able to take care of herself while also having her own scars to confront. Fallon was your typical protective, morally grey love interest/demon with “who did this to you” vibes. If that sounds like your speed, you may enjoy their whirlwind romance.

We only got a surface level view of the side characters and much of that was obvious descriptions to set the tone on personalities and cultural backgrounds. That aside, I enjoyed the found family aspect but still wish they went a little deeper on the character development. I need more about Usha, Felix and Ambrose! They seemed like they’d be a hoot! (Perhaps this will happen in subsequent books as Goodreads shows 3 full books and several .5 novellas in the series.)

This whole book is only 185 pages according to Goodreads. The speed of the plot and light character development may have been an intentional choice by the author to keep the book shorter in length overall. Personally, I would have appreciated an extra 50-100 pages if some of these things had been built out a little more.
That said, I did tear through this book and will likely read the next two as they are available.

If you approach this book as a spicy read wrapped up in a quick, cozy fantasy package, you’ll be setting yourself up well.

Overall, I’d rate this 3-3.5 stars.
Big thanks to NetGalley, Kimberly Lemming, and Orbit for the ARC of this re-published book.

Cozy fantasy with an actual plot?? Yes, please!!
This book was a delight! Cinnamon is full of personality and fun, Fallon is a total himbo, and their forced proximity quest is chock full of adventure, spice, and hilarity.
This book pulls you in with easy worldbuilding, but keeps you with dynamic characters and an engaging plot. It’s very easy to sit down and read this all in one go!

The only thing I don’t love is the cover redesign. I was interested in this book from seeing the original cover a while back. The new covers aren’t nearly as attractive. I doubt I’d have even picked this up if I’d only seen this redesigned version.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

A cute and quick read. I have seen many reviews of this series so I was so excited to dive in and enter Cinnamon's world. The diversity of characters and true-to-life family dynamics was refreshing, though the trope of "every adventure book I've read has a situation like this..." was a little too meta for my liking. While the plot was predictable, this was the perfect fun read for an easy Sunday afternoon....with a little spice, of course!

Thanks to Net Galley and, the author, and publisher for the ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review!

The Mead Mishaps series is a lot of fun, not a lot of deep fun mind you, but fun. That Time I Got Drunk And Saved a Demon is the first in this series, and one I’ve read at least twice now. Cinnamon is enjoying a celebration when she walks home (intoxicated) and ends up, you guessed it, saving a demon.

The story and world in these books is really thought out. Something that you really don’t see a ton in indie published novellas that are romance focused. This is High Fantasy with magic, fun creatures, spells, etc. We focus primarily on the characters and their romance but Kimberly Lemming has put a lot of thought into her world. That’s the biggest draw for me, besides the ridiculous banter these books have.

The writing and banter is very modern, very steeped in the now of our current day language, but it’s light and the story is fast paced so unless you just can’t stand that type of language it’s not off-putting. She also does a great job lightly touching on heavier topics like consent, freedom, and slavery.

This book, for me is a lot of fun with a lot of good memories attached. I am more than willing to reread it and pick up the subsequent books (multiple times). It’s not a super in-depth, deep, heavy fantasy but it’s light and funny and a good one sitting type of read.

P.S. Full transparency, I skimmed the sex scenes, I find those in general to be very cringe so go somewhere else for thoughts on that.

3.5 Cinnamon Sticks out of 5

Thank you Netgalley for the arc of this story!

Above all, I want to applaud this author on her characters. This was a very unexpected tale, mostly cozy but so heartwarming! I would read a whole series with these people.

I was looking to get into cozy fantasy and romantasy, so the synopsis immediately caught my eye. The world and characters started out promising, but I had some trouble feeling connected to the characters as individuals, and the quirky modern slang sometimes took me out of the story. However, it was still a fun romp. Despite certain elements not being my cup of tea, I enjoyed the book overall and would recommend it to readers who are looking for a lighthearted, romantic adventure.

This has cute roots, but I don't feel it's necessarily benefitted by being expanded so much - looking at Storygraph, it looks like the original was much shorter. I did enjoy the absurdity and banter of it all, but otherwise I think this one may just not be for me!

I am in love with this book. It was fast-paced, interesting, and was the true definition (to me) of a RomCom with the obvious fantasy world thrown in.

I can't believe it took me so long to read book #1 .... I can't wait to devour the rest!

WHAT A JOURNEY! This book is SO ridiculous and SO entertaining that it was SO hard to put it down!

This book is just so well-balanced! The humor is on point, the spice is incredible, and it's kinda cozy!

“Every scratch," he whispered, his tone gentle and comforting. "Every bruise, I will pay back in fire and blood."
I blinked. "Um...that is so sweet but so unnecessary.”

Cinnamon (Cin for short) is a human spice trader who avoids adventures and being the main character like the plague. In her small village, they worship a goddess who chooses a warrior each year to join her group of protectors against demons. When Cinnamon gets drunk while her village is celebrating the chosen warrior of their goddess, she accidentally saves a demon and finds out that her land's goddess is actually an undead witch who has been enslaving demons and controls them under her magic.

Cinnamon is then forced to go on a quest with Fallon, the demon she saved, to destroy the fake goddess' four temples that hold a piece of her heart. There will be monsters, dragons, pirates, and a lot of flirting and adventure!

Reading this felt a bit like watching The Legend of Vox Machina with a group of ridiculous heroes trying to save the day!

If you've read Legends & Lattes and are into spicy fantasy, this is the absolute perfect blend for you. I am dumbfounded why I didn't read this any sooner. Why didn't anyone tell me how much I needed this?!

Kimberly Lemming, if I could afford it, I would slam this book against the chest of every single one of my friends and followers and beg them to read it and to just thank me later. The MC is so relatable, hilarious and I love her. And her demon?! *Fans self* Thank you.

These new covers are sheer perfection and finally do this work justice compared to the original ones, imo.

I'm ready to dive face first into the next books in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit Books for allowing me access to read this so that I may share my honest opinion and feedback. You've hooked me into having a new favorite series and author to follow.

I just want to say this was fun. This was a fun and adventous read. It follows Cinnamon who is forced to adventure with a hot demon, Fallon. He "recruits" her to end the curse on demon kind and along the way they collect a merry band of friends. It's silly and doesn't hold back on the spice.

I love that she is a strong FMC and he's not some stoic MC, he's funny and not at all what I would have expected and I love that about Fallon.

It was a quick read, I read this mostly on a car read home and it quickly passed the long time. I'm dying for the next one.
