This was a light and fun novel that I read over just a couple of days. Cinnamon encounters a demon and accidentally discovers that the product of her spice farm (cinnamon, heh) frees him from a curse. Her world is turned upside down when the demon, Fallon, reveals that the Goddess worshipped by the humans of this land is actually a lich who has tricked everyone into serving her.
The story is all told through Cinnamon’s point-of-view. Her voice is energetic and opinionated, and her reactions to her situation were entertaining. Fallon is the dangerous bad-boy demon, but despite being a monster, he keeps his word about things. There weren’t many other characters of note in the story, although we do see a brief picture of Cinnamon’s family which helps to flesh out her motivations more fully.
While this is an obvious romance book, the non-romance part of the plot follows a classic quest format and creates a vehicle for the characters to interact. Cinnamon refuses to acknowledge her attraction for Fallon for a while, but when she gives in to it, the sex scenes are creative and explicit. The author does a good job of building the tension of the plot at the same time that the romance escalates, so that the ending of the book was satisfying in both respects.
I might read more of this series as it was a quick and easy book to get through — perfect to read on a cold and quiet weekend.

Yes to demon pirates, yes to small towns, yes to curvy FMCs and the MCs who love them even if they are a dragon demon, let's go.

DNF @ pg 85
This is one that didn't really sound like my thing, but that stunning cover and awesome title gets me every time. So I decided to give it a try. Turns out I was right; it just wasn't my thing.
What I liked:
✦ Super cute, supportive family dynamic
✦ Fast-paced (not always a good thing, but at least it didn't stall)
✦ Interesting world and dynamics
✦ A title and cover that I will forever love
What didn't work for me:
✦ Modern terms in what appeared to be a historical setting (kept pulling me out of the story)
✦ Instalove (for no discernible reason)
✦ Lots of cringy romance scenes/tropes that didn't do it for me
✦ Pace of the romance didn't keep up with the pace of the quest
✦ The characters feel inconsistent and, at times, entirely random
Ultimately, I would recommend this for someone who just wants a steamy, brain-candy sort of read, where you're not looking for deeper meaning or commentary but just want a smexy, fun time with none of the other strings attached.

Absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait to ready everything Kimberly Lemming writes. It was funny and romantic ❤️

Cinnamon saves a trapped man, she certainly doesn't expect the man to turn out to be a demon, or that demon to tell her everything she believed about the world is incorrect. Now Cinnamon is going on an adventure to save demons from an evil witch.
This was such a fast, fun read. I liked the magic and mythology of the world, as well as the romance between the main characters, and I'm really excited to see where the next book goes.

Cinnamon lives in a small village on a cinnamon farm with her family on the eve of the hero journey. Cinnamon gets a bit drunk and there is an explosion and she goes to investigate on her way home. She saves a demon, the demon than tells her and her family the 'truth' of her goddess and than an epic adventure ensues.
Cinnamon and Fallon have great chemistry and the world is fun. I will be diving into the rest of the series
4/5

Thank you to Netgalley and Orbit Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Rating: 3.25 out of 5 stars

Originally, I attempted to read this book when it was indie published, before Orbit Books picked it up and I ended up soft-dnfing. I heard so many great things about this book and I wanted to know why I could not connect with it. Since I enjoyed and finished reading it this time around I think there were two primary reasons for my disinterest. The first being how modern some of the language was, because this was a fantasy world and is called ‘MEAD MISHAPS’ I was anticipating something more whimsical and fairytale-esque. So the language threw me off a bit, but I was prepared for it the second time around. The second, it took me a minute to find my rhythm with the author’s humor. As I continued reading there were several laugh out loud moments, but there were also certain jokes which were so modern it threw me out of the world a bit. These are just things to consider and ways you can set your expectations before diving in.
In this book we follow Cinnamon, or Cin, such a cute name, even if it’s a bit on the nose, who as the title suggests saves a demon and ends up on a quest. They go on an adventure which leads Cin to discover that some truths she holds dear are not as they seem. I did like that she was Louisiana or Creole coded, cooking up crawfish, making seafood boils, eating alligator, and bringing her seasonings with her on the journey. While I found this to have cozy elements, this is definitely not a low stakes romance, as there is plenty of bloodshed, battles, and heartbreak. The world Lemming created is vibrant and dazzling, and she even tackles real world issues while incorporating romance and friendship. All in all, this was a fun read, although I still think there were pacing issues and the fact I still did not completely gel with the writing voice/humor incorporated. I will still check out the subsequent books in this series.

Thank you to orbit for the copy of this book!
I really wanted to love this after seeing the GORGEOUS cover but unfortunately it really didn’t work for me.
The writing style felt very amateur and a bit too corny in a way that brings to mind fanfiction. It lacked the depth to make me really care about the characters or relationships happening. I didn’t feel any chemistry between the two main characters and their whole relationship felt way to insta-lovey. I also found the dialogue to be very stilted and forced as well as cringey with the very modern tone that was used.
Overall I’m very sad that this didn’t work out for me but am happy it worked for some others.

Reread to refresh my memory for the latest release, and also because this series is being rereleased with new covers! I absolutely love this book! It is so incredibly funny from start to finish, and the spice is top notch!! It didn’t feel like the spicy scenes were too much, and there was so much more to the story than just that aspect. I love Cinnamon so much!! She is so witty and between her and Fallon, I was cracking up over and over. The best part is that on top of being hilarious and spicy, there is a really great story about overcoming biases and going against the grain to do what’s right! Definitely recommend this super funny fantasy!
Thank you to Netgalley and Orbit Books for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

When I saw the title and cover of this book I just knew I had to read it. I loved it so much! I adored Cin. She is a southern woman who is fierce and strong. Fallon was just great. The side characters were fabulous and I would love to read their stories. I cannot wait to read more in this series. Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit Books for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

First I want to say thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing a copy of this book for me to read in exchange for my honest review.
This book originally piqued my interest because I kept seeing in on TBR lists and rated well on Booktok/Booktube reviews. However, I did not have the same experience as those readers. I ended up marking this as a DNF at 33%. I wanted to give it an honest chance to work out the issues I was experiencing -- they persisted and got worse.
The biggest issue I had was that the book didn't know whether it wanted to be set in present time or the Renaissance. The speech patterns were constantly flipflopping. Also, one of my own pet peeves when reading a book is when modern niche slang is used and this book did that often ie "seems kinda suss," "catch these hands," and "that's a whole ass mood." If you have no issues with that, your chances of enjoying this book got higher. It also uses cuss words rather unnecessarily and frequently.
As for the actual plot, its about a girl named Cinnamon who ends up crossing paths with a demon named Fallon. The two then go on an adventure to try and save the demon population from a curse. And if I'm being honest, for a book that is written so simply, I had no clue what the reasoning behind the curse and how to break it was. There was some serious lack of worldbuilding. But if you enjoy road trip tropes and instalove -- this would be worth a shot. But, to me, the plot read like a junior entry for a writing competition. There was too much emphasis on things that weren't relevant to the current plot. The flashbacks felt out of order. Animal references were made every other page. Cinnamon's inner monologues read like a twelve year old. There were a lot of fact checking errors ie Cinnamon keeps referring to her fields of cinnamon and then saying that it come from the bark of trees -- which are not trees. The characters lacked any real depth. There were several serious moments that happened that were undercut with laughing/joking instead of addressing the topics that were brought up.
Overall, this book was not for me, but there were some things I did enjoy. The author bringing more diversity into the fantasy realm, the family/friends dynamic, and that this is a book that could be read in one evening.

Cinnamon was just looking to have a fun night out with friends doing some, ok a lot of, drinking, eating good food and just general merriment, but fate has other ideas when she drunkenly saves a demon! Now she finds herself on an epic adventure with said demon, Fallon, to kill an evil witch! The silver lining is that Fallon is hot, like smoking hot, and he seems to be pretty into her.
Long live the Cheese Queen and Kimberly Lemming! I absolutely LOVE this book and this series. It is fantastical,, hilarious and the romance is smoking hot, no literally there is a lot of fire and some dragons. This is everything that I ever dreamed of in a romantic fantasy, the only reason it is not the perfect book is because I wanted more!
The world that Kimberly built and the epic adventure she sends these two on is just perfection. My first genre love is fantasy, so I am usually disappointed with the magic and world-building in paranormal romances, but not with this book! The characters are amazing and so fun, while the romance is disarmingly spicy. Who knew that I had a thing for demon romance? Apparently, Kimberly Lemming knew what we all needed in our lives!
The only reasons you may not want to read this book is if you don't like ghost pepper levels of spice. Also, if you like your romance to stay in the romance lane, then this might not be for you because it is very fantastical. Personally, these things just made this book perfect.
That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon is a book I will go back and read again and again! It is spicy paranormal romance perfection. One of the best romances I have ever read and I will forever be telling people to read it! Seriously, I'm not sure what you are waiting for, but go read this!

I enjoy this series a lot. Cinnamon gets sucked into a quest to defeat the evil lich goddess and falls in love with a dragon along the way. These books are perfect for a short, simple, but also spicy read. Kind of a cozy fantasy rom-com. There's action, silliness, but a basic story tying it all together.
The republish from Orbit has the same story with a gorgeously update cover with new art.

This was honestly such a fun fantastical romance. It's got demons, pirates, dragons, witches, and sexy times. What more could you want?
The sex scenes are numerous and very explicit. This is not meant as a negative but I know it's not every one's cup of tea. There's also some sort of BDSM type moments that could be triggering for some. The love interests share some sweet moments but it's definitely not super serious literature.
I enjoyed it enough that I'm interested in the other books in the series.

This is such a fantastic and fun fantasy book that kept me turning the page until I was finished! The plot is sweet and fast paced and the characters are incredibly entertaining. This book had the feel of a cozy fantasy but still had a little bit of intensity and it was just the perfect combination. Kimberly Lemming paints a beautiful world filled with vibrant characters and I cannot wait for the rest of the books!

A funny, over the top light rom-com in a setting reminiscent of a D&D game.
The language is very urban, with modern slang and joke. A few definitely modern elements, such as a bucket of nachos and a souvenir shop set in a medieval world give it a slightly Shrek vibe.
The FMC is a Black Women with a big hobbit vibe, there is nothing she wants more than to stay home, drink beer and eat cheese and end up going on an adventure against her will.
The MMC is a sassy, horned and horny demon.
All the characters are morally questionable, varying from chaotic good to chaotic neutral.
It could be considered an enemy to lover story, but they stopped being enemies so quick that I don’t think it earned it.
Overall it’s an fun and quick read.

This was a fun and fluffy romcom, I love the irony of her being so chill but gets dragged into an adventure with this demon. I enjoyed the fantastical elements that the story gave in such a unique and well written way. This is definitely a book to enjoy on a summer day in the park because it can truly transport you into its world.

Someone I'm in a chat with mentioned they were reading this book and how funny it was, so I immediately went and requested it on NetGalley. I mean, come on, just read that title!!
There were a couple times I felt like there were some gaps in the writing, but while I noticed them, I don't really care about them. This is book you go into fully for the vibes, and the vibes are impeccable. There is banter, sarcasm, cussing, adventure, and romance (though it is slow burn - you don't get 🌶 until you're close to the end of the book).
I've seen where others haven't liked the modern dialogue set in a fantasy world, but I loved it. It had me cackling so much throughout this book. Sometimes it just makes the character that much more relatable. They're not some heroine who has it all figured out and just readily accepts her fate without some type of sarcastic inner monologue.
If you're looking for cozy vibes with lots of sarcasm thrown in, then you need to check this one out.

Well this book was entertaining.. dragons and romance, say no more! Let's hear it for the strong female leads because we need to see more of that in books! I enjoyed the banter and snark between Cinnamon and Fallon but wanted just a little bit more of a connection between the characters. It seemed like they were strangers and then that quickly morphed into a relationship and marriage. But I did enjoy the steamy scenes between the characters and that was well done! I would definitely read another book by Kimberly Lemming. And I love the new cover art!! 3.5 stars for this book.

I'm going to read these every time I find them. This is my second and, like the first, it's funny, adventurous, and just smutty enough. The characters are great and the story made sense. Silly, sure, but so much fun
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
