I received an e-arc from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. If this sounds like something you're interested in picking up, the book is already out!

I knew from the title and the cover that this was going to be a wild ride. I'm not someone who reads monster romance very often but I wanted to give it a try. Unfortunately, I found myself disappointed and underwhelmed.

The storyline happened too quickly and it was underdeveloped. Scenes happened too fast and not enough time was spent at each stop along the way. I also think the opening of the story came on a little too strong. I felt lost and like I was reading a sequel. However! The quickness of it all made it an easy and entertaining read.

The characters didn't feel very developed. Cinnamon was quirky but I don't feel like I spent enough time with her to really know her. All I can tell you about Fallon is that he's a dragon demon. I didn't have any feelings towards them, which made me not care what happened. I think I ended up skimming the final battle scene.

I fully expected this to be non-stop smut but there were really only two smutty scenes. They felt awkward and forced, which is also how I feel about the dialogue.

Overall, I didn't really know what to expect going in, but I was hoping for more than what I got.
It was still fun and entertaining though! I may pick up the next book because I like werewolves more than I like demons, and I'm willing to give the author another shot.

Peak character relationships, including accurate sibling antagonism? Check!
Fluffy romance that makes me giggle, then swoon? Check!
Lesbian centaurs? Check!
This was a fun, quick read. Plot is simple but easy to follow. Makes me wish I lived in a fantasy world so I could have a hot demon boyfriend too.

Thank you to Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I sort of took a chance on this one and knew going in that it wasn't my main genre. But, I was intrigued by the spice farm, gods and monsters, the good reviews, and I've been wanting to try more cozy fantasy. But, this really was not my cup of tea. I had so many complaints. The use of modern slang was so jarring and random. I feel like it was an attempt to make the MC relatable but it just made her annoying. There were a lot of typos and grammar mistakes. I could not stay connected to the story. The actual plot had some promise with the goddess enslaving the monsters and destroying her relics. But it just wasn't given enough time or focus to really work. So, okay. I figured maybe it was just about the smut then. But, then the smut wasn't even good, it felt like the same thing every time. And it also feel like the MC wasn't really into him at all beyond physical attraction. I did not feel chemistry or any variation.

I added a star for the few elements that were funny or enriched the story in some way, including the rivalry between the inn owners, Felix, and the camaraderie between all the demons once they were saved.

I think people who enjoyed Legends & Lattes would like this book. It's like a spicier version of Shrek. I give it a level 3 out of 5 for spice. Unfortunately I keep thinking I am going to enjoy the cozy fantasy genre and it just isn't my favorite. There were some fun quirky characters, but they weren't developed all that much. The book was very plot driven, then spice driven, and then action at the end. I didn't feel connected to the characters really and I got a bit lost in the plot in the middle.

There were some great humorous lines and banter. This is just a style that doesn't really work well for me. I can see how a lot of people would love this book/series. There is a healthy mix of fantasy characters, a minor epic quest, and some magic.

If you enjoyed L&L but wanted more from the romance- read this book.

Thank you for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Okay, if you’re looking for a short, spicy, romantasy read, please PLEASE choose Kimberly Lemming. I never knew I needed a demon love story but this was fun, heartwarming and sexy all at once.

Oh, and there’s nachos.

This quick read had everything I could have wanted at the time when I read it! It was funny, a breeze to get through, had a Black FMC (we always stan diverse protagonists in this house!), had some good spice, and a pretty engaging storyline! I enjoyed Cin as a protagonist, and Fallon was truly a lovesick puppy (ie demon). The inclusion of some fun demonic and supernatural side characters fleshed out the overall story, and made me excited for the following books in the series!

I only had two gripes that took me out of the story. One was some tonal disorientation, and the other was the abruptness to the ending. As to the first point, I was jarred, at times, that this medieval fantasy world had characters using phrases like “sus” or eating nachos. It wasn’t enough to ruin the book, but it was very confusing to set the tone and sometimes took me out of the setting. As to the second point, the ending—particularly the epilogue—felt a bit abrupt. That could just be because it was a shorter novel, or just my personal preference for longer HEAs, but these were more stylistic preferences of mine, and not the end of the world for one’s reading experience. Given all of the above, this gets 3.5⭐️, rounded down to 3 on Goodreads. I recommend more of Lemming’s books! I am looking forward to reading the other two books in the series.

*Thank you again to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.*

This story is a short more lighthearted fantasy romance, following the perspective of Cinnamon. I really liked fun, diverse characters. There were some many unique demons and people, I do wish there was a little more background and information about the demons. The small village setting was great, I especially liked Cin being a spice farmer with her whole family working together and having each other's back, it was a great dynamic. Because this book was so short there was some key development missing for me especially with the romance development, so while reading it felt very insta love, even with the time jumps. Also, while reading there seemed like there were chunks of texts missing, like we would jump to another scene or fast forward in time, I am like when that happened is it was a bit confusing at times when it did that. Overall, it was a cute light short story, I do think with more development and made it into a full-length story, with the plot and characters, I would have loved this book.
I received an advanced ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.

This book was cute, but the millennial lingo took me out of the story at times, especially in the beginning. I don't want to hear modern slang, even in a cozy low stakes fantasy romance. If you're creating a high fantasy world, please don't have "Pillage and Chill" as the name of a bar, I don't want to think about netflix when i'm trying to imagine a made up village. The naming convention was inconsistent as if the author couldn't decide what they were trying to do. There also seemed to be a lot stereotypes for people of color that felt like they toed the line of being not ok. The male MC literarily says "Foolish rabbit" as in "Foolish rabbit, tricks are for kids" and it just took me way out of the intimate scene. The author also couldn't seem to decide where this book takes place, at times it gave "deep south of America" and then all of a sudden there were hyenas and gazelles. I couldn't decide if this truly was high fantasy, or if it was supposed to be set in modern day with demons and werewolves, etc, so inconsistent were the setting vibes. Overall, I finished it, and the romance was a cute typical feel good romance with well written spicy scenes. I'll probably read the sequel to see if the author smoothed out her writing and also to continue the story.

Embark on a whimsical, spicy adventure in 'That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon,' a rom-com fantasy that delivers an irresistibly unique blend of humor, romance, and a touch of the supernatural. The story introduces us to Cinnamon, a spice farmer whose mundane life takes an extraordinary turn when she encounters Fallon, a demon with a fiery disposition and a vendetta against a false goddess.

Cinnamon’s character is a delightful amalgamation of wit, humor, and relatable reluctance. She yearns for a simple life but finds herself plunged into a world brimming with gods, demons, and unexpected romance. Her drunken encounter with Fallon, who initially appears as a threat but soon reveals a more complex and charming personality, sets the stage for a journey filled with laughter, battles, and heart.

The dynamic between Cinnamon and Fallon is a standout aspect of the book. Their banter, evolving relationship, and Fallon's antics bring a light-hearted and steamy energy to the narrative. The book doesn't shy away from mature themes, offering smut with a toe-dip into BDSM.

However, it's not without its flaws. At times, Cinnamon's character falls into the trap of being too naive, often needing rescue in scenarios that seem obvious. This repetitive damsel-in-distress theme began to wear a little thin.

'That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon' is a refreshing addition to the fantasy romance genre, especially for readers looking for diversity and a light-hearted, humorous romance. Its blend of fantastical elements, witty narration, and steamy romance makes it a quick and enjoyable read. If you're in the mood for something fun and not overly complex, this book is a few hours well-spent.

Cinnamon is a spice trader who rescues an injured demon on her family’s farm. Cin’s world is turned upside-down after the demon, Fallon, explains that her village has been worshipping a corrupt witch who has hypnotized and enslaved his people. Fallon is determined to break the curse and Cin agrees to accompany him on his quest. Throughout their journey, Cin warms up to Fallon and discovers that demons are not mindless brutes after all.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon is a delightfully cozy and entertaining rom-com fantasy novel. Cinnamon is a lovable, sassy FMC and I really enjoyed the funny banter and steamy scenes between her and Fallon. As the story progresses, we are introduced to a diverse cast of quirky characters and I’m so happy that Lemming gives them their own stories in the rest of the Mead Mishaps Series. This silly and comforting fantasy novel swept me off my feet.

This was a fun, sexy, and adventurous read. I'm a huge fan of cozy fantasy and this was such an enjoyable and somewhat new take on that genre (at least for me). I recommend this for fans of fantasy looking for a cozy and adventurous read!

This book was my first cozy fantasy, and I must say, I need to read more of this subgenre of fantasy! The relationship between Cin and Fallon was really well-built, and even though they only fall in love over the course of their adventure, it didn’t feel rushed or insta-love-y. The battle scenes in this novel were STELLAR. I loved that there were stakes; our protagonists weren’t just magically protected every time. These battle scenes were also very well choreographed by the author, and I appreciated the thought and care that went into making these scenes believable and exciting to read. I also appreciated that the book didn’t end right at the end of their adventure; readers actually get to see more of the relationship between Cin and Fallon as well as their return home. While I did thoroughly enjoy this story, there were some elements of the book that could have been expanded upon. The magic system could have been explained more, especially in regard to the transfer of power between mates. Myva’s motives also left something to be desired. I also really wanted to see more of Cin’s hometown! There was so much described in the first chapter about the festival and the chosen heroes and even Cin’s best friend, Brie. There could have been a lot more to explore there; although, it is my understanding that this is a series, so there may be more to explore in future books. I will be continuing with this series, so I hope to share more of my thoughts soon.

Spice trader Cinnamon leads a quiet life in a small town. She doesn’t want grand adventures or to be the hero. But of course that is the path she would end up on after saving a demon while in a wine-drunk stupor. Cin breaks Fallon out of his curse and he confesses that he just wants to kill the witch that is enslaving the demons and free his people. Fallon drags her along for the ride, whether she wants to go or not.

I had so much fun reading this first intallment to the Mead Mishaps series. The writing style is different than I was expecting. It feels more modern than I typically like in my fantasy novels, but it fit so well with the quirky, steamy story Lemming is telling.

The playfulness and banter between Cin and Fallon is top tier and had me laughing and kicking my feet at multiple spots. I love that the story didn’t take itself too seriously, but Lemming still created a world full of magic and lore. I loved reading this and I can’t wait to check out book two.

Thank you to NetGalley, Orbit Books, and Kimberly Lemming for an advanced copy of That Time I Got Drunk and Saved A Demon in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I adored this cozy fantasy romance! It was so much fun to read and is the perfect adventure. It's funny and charming and everything I was hoping for.

Cinnamon doesn’t want to go on adventures. She just wants to stay home and enjoy good food, the company of her family, and not be the chosen hero by the goddess. Thank goodness she’s not picked and she can drink as much alcohol as she likes, gets drunk, and saves a demon.

This was a cute, fun adventure fantasy in a d&d kind of way. The humor was great and the spice minimal which was bummer but otherwise zero complaints on this fun fantasy story. The characters were believable and likeable.

It’s a short novella, and from Orbit so you know I’ll enjoy it as Orbit rarely does me wrong. This wasn’t quite my usual cup of tea but still a fun time overall. My thanks to the publisher for a copy of the book, and I highly recommend this for people who liked Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree.

TW: death of a sister, light implied sexual assault, mentions of death and light gore

I will admit the first 15% wasn’t for me. There was some really, i’m going to say cheesy? lines. For a good bit i just sat laughing because some really dumb stuff was happening
Then i got into it. I finished this in 2 hours. It was lighthearted, funny, and the plot was actually good. Those cheesy lines started to become my favourite parts (except for Fallon… he’s my #1 )
I’ve read romcom books before, but i think this is my favourite.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing to read this book in exchange for a honest review!

This book was so funny and so great. I loved every single word of it. There was such great humor and it was balanced out with some spicy scenes and a good plot. I really love how the plot didn't take the back seat. It was woven into the entire story. It was a very well balanced story. I love the romance so much. Cin and Fallon are adorable and they're just perfect together. I love how he is so ready to kill for her from so early on in the story. Cin telling him no to killing was so funny. I can't wait to read the rest in this series.

This is the first book in a delightful series of romance/adventure/fantasy novels about a world of demons and gods. In this first one, a young Black, full figured woman, who works on her family's cinnamon farm, gets ambushed by a demon, who is under a spell. She throws the only thing she has on her, cinnamon, which breaks the spell, but now the demon wants her for a wife.

Yes, this is a romance, and it is in no way clean. It has a little bit of slow burn, and then the main characters are making like rabbits in mating season. This is not to say that the whole book is like this. Actually, there is a lot of adventure going on as well, as Cin and her demon fight to kill the witch posing as a goddess which is responsible for cursing all the supernatural creatures.

If you are adverse to romances that go into too much detail about what each character does to each other in bed, you can always skip over those bits. The dialogue is fun. The story is fast paced. I gobbled it up, and read the next two books in short order

This book has been previously self-published, but apparently it just came out with a new cover by Orbit books, on January 2nd 2024.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberley Lemming does exactly what it promises in the titles- it tells the story of Cinnamon, a spice farmer, and the time she gets a bit too intoxicated and accidentally stumbles upon a demon while on her way home.

This book was very sweet! It was a cute, spicy, and quick read that delivered a relatively low-stakes fantasy plot line and some fantasy-infused romance!

I liked Cinnamon and Fallon as main characters, but would have loved to see their romance develop a bit further. Their relationship moved a little more quickly than I would've liked, but I think the fantasy elements definitely had an impact on that.

This banter on this one is so good! The plot has me wanting to read more in this series and I love how it’s a fantasy world but uses more modern language. I love Cin and Fallon and all the unique side characters that we meet along this adventure. Cin is super kind, which is a character trait I love. I love her family and the sibling vibes they have going on. Fallon’s energy is all over the place, but he cares for Cin and watching them come together is pure entertainment!
The beginning is a little slow but once the action starts, it doesn’t slow down. It’s spicy, funny and just an overall great book!
