Create your own one-line drawing
Heinke Nied, university lecturer, illustrator, and one-line-artist reveals her passion for drawing in her book: "15-Minute Drawing: One-Line Drawing. Learn to draw florals, portraits, and more using a single line!", published by Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster.
Nied reveals her passion for drawing with this book and states: "In this book, I show you how to create your own one-line drawings step by step and then turn them into complete, polished artwork—in just 15 minutes! For me, one-line art isn’t just a trend but rather a totally new form of drawing and an artistic representation of my surroundings I wish you much joy with one-line drawing!" (p. 5). Nied gives an explanation for One-Line-Drawing, the possibilities it offers and underlines that it is more than an exercise (e.g., it enhances the observational abilities, see p. 5-6). She presents various topics such as "Flowers & Leaves", "Plants", "Lifestyle", or "Celebrations" with multiple step-by-step exercises. Furthermore, she points out the need for keeping a sketchbook in order to improve one's skills.
The book also contains an inspirational gallery and Nied classifies the exercises with a "difficulty scale". Both are really helpful. I highly recommend the book for artists who are interested in one-line drawing may they be beginners or advanced ones who are looking for more inspiration.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

There is something so beautifully simplistic about line drawing! It has been an artform that I’ve been obsessed with for some time. So when I had the chance to read 15-Minute Drawing: One-Line Drawing, I immediately jumped on the opportunity to learn how to use the art technique. All of the lessons were great, but the faces were definitely my favorite! These lessons are great for beginners but leave you with art that doesn’t feel like a beginner created it!
I love to bullet journal and make the pages look pretty so this one line drawing book was perfect for my to master some floral patterns. I also enjoy just doodling when I am relaxing or when I have a flare up of my chronic health issues. I loved how the steps are very clear and broken down into little segments, it can’t have been easy to do but it was cleverly achieved. I’ve seen there are another two books by this author/artist so I shall be purchasing those to try out too especially the watercolours book.
This is a cool, interactive design book. Showing how you can create lots of different types of pictures without picking up your pen. I would recommend for all ages.
When I was a kid, I liked one-line pictures. I can still make a swan. This book by Heinke Nied has taken these drawings to the next level.
You will find a lot of inspiration here, you can decide to draw anything. The book will give you positive motivation.
And the drawings will simply look great.
Loved this book! It is filled with useful and encouraging tips for any beginner artist, and it also goes in depth for those who need more inspiration and more encouragement to succeed in single line drawing which seems to be a different form of art on its own.
This is something I’m getting a print copy of once it is published and keeping it as a Christmas gift for my (drawing-obsessed) daughter. She will LOVE it.
15-Minute Drawing: One-Line Drawing is an excellent guide for doodlers who want to escape into their journals. Simple, fun, and relaxing guidelines to either offer a diversion or jumpstart a bigger drawing experience. Highly recommend for students and instructors. Great book.
15-Minute Drawing: One-Line Drawing by Heinke Nied was a lot of fun! I own quite a few drawing books, as it's something that I always want to get better at. This was my first experience with using a single line to draw, and it was very cool. The step-by-step visuals were great, and my final product wasn't too bad.
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group-Walter Foster for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I want a physical copy of this book asap, I loved it! It really triggered my imagination and I had no idea I needed it triggered, but this book was so much fun! I could see my patrons checking this book and we would have to put a disclaimer to not actually draw in the book, but it would definitely be popular!
15-Minute Drawing: One-Line Drawing : Learn to draw florals, portraits, and more using a single line! This is a step by step tutorial book aimed at beginners, using the concept of one continuous line to produce the drawing. All the examples are basic and easy to follow and cover topics from flowers, to food and people. It is creative and inspiring and perfect for a rainy day.
What a delightful new practice to wind down after a busy day or to start a new day feeling calm and grounded.
It was the first time I tried one-line drawing, and let me tell you: it's harder than it looks!
I made this one-line drawing part of my morning mindfulness routine. Because you're so focused on that pen line, it's easy to forget everything else going on around you or inside your head.
I also liked the little notes by the author at the top of every drawing prompt. This made the book feel a bit more personal.
I can imagine coming back to this book over and over when I need to step away from daily life for a bit, or I want inspiration for a hand-drawn card.
A nice example book for beginning one-line drawers.
Detailed step by step tutorials and a great source for inspiration.
Really great easy to follow ideas for drawing with step by step instructions and many different categories. For someone that doesn't have a lot of skills but really wants to draw this helps make drawing approachable.
This is a lovely book that encourages us to develop our drawing skills in a very manageable way by committing just 15 minutes a day.
I was amazed by the things this author/artist shows that we can draw with just one continuous line.
Alongside a very helpful introduction which informs of the tools of the trade alongside other helpful hints, the main chapters all focus on topics, these include: 'flowers & leaves', 'plants', 'faces', 'lifestyle', 'still life' and 'celebrations'.

I chose this book because I adore line art. Thank you to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing for granting me access to this Advance Readers Copy in exchange for an honest review.
I have no artistic skills to speak of, but this is one form of drawing I just had to try. The author made it so easy with an introduction to line art, an explanation of what tools and materials would be required, and warm-up exercises.
The book has different sections such as flowers, plants, and faces. Each section also has three different levels of drawings according to your skill level. I'm still at level one, but I look forward to improving the craft. With the step-by-step guides, it won't be long until I am level three.
There is an inspiration gallery with various images to practice, and Heinke shows you how to add even more beauty to the line art with watercolour.
If you love art, sketching, drawing, line art, or even doodling, this book is for you. Not only is it gorgeous, but it's easy to follow and an absolute joy to learn with.
