I definitely enjoyed the suspenseful, dark atmosphere, but there was just something missing. I feel like the story needed more meat to it. This might appeal to some readers, but I just couldn't get into it.

"The Sight" by Melanie Golding. The story revolves around Faith Harrington, a circus performer who has the extraordinary ability to see how people will die. Faith's gift has haunted her since she was a child, when she witnessed her brother's death in a vision. Now, her ability has driven her to the point of attempting to blind herself.

Faith's family is superstitious, and they initially kept her away from the family business. However, her Uncle Billy eventually allowed her back in the ring after she promised not to use her gift again. Despite her promise, Faith's gift ultimately leads to her banishment from the circus.

Faith's life after her banishment is filled with struggle and hardship. She uses her gift as a service, which proves successful until she sees herself in a stranger's vision of death. This revelation shifts the story from a slow-burn to an edge-of-your-seat thriller.

The book is a tragic and depressing tale, with Faith's life marred by death. The author offers a haunting atmosphere that reflects Faith's emotional burden. Faith's character is well-crafted, with remarkable depth that portrays her as a woman who has faced one trial after another.

Despite the book's dark tone, there are moments of levity, such as Faith's entrepreneurial spirit in advertising herself as an “Oracle of Death.” The author blurs the line between horror and thriller in a way that keeps the reader engaged and intrigued.

Overall, "The Sight" is a captivating and emotionally charged story that showcases Melanie Golding's talent for writing. The book is a great read for anyone who enjoys dark and suspenseful tales that blur the line between genres.

This book, I started back in August and set it down, figuring I knew the twist and moved on - however, I was reminded about this one and came back to see what happened and I'm glad I listened to how this all played out for Faith!

I had high hopes for this book after reading others by Melanie Golding, but I figured this out right from the start - that may be that I am figuring these out quicker -or it was in PLAIN SIGHT, either way this thrilling paranormal book has great writing as I have come to expect from Melanie and the audio is done well I enjoyed the narrator, Ella Lynch. She added to the characters personalities and brought the story to life.

I enjoyed the premise, the atmosphere was perfect for this one, it set the whole tone for this dark, depressing tale, that infuriated me at times, I cant say I liked Faith's family. Which is sad family is like this and wants to put an end to her. Faith is so unique and I really enjoyed her character, especially trying to make peace with her power.

I'd recommend this paranormal thriller that is full of suspense!

Lately, there's been a surge in supernatural-themed thrillers, and this one stands out as exceptional. The protagonist grapples with a haunting ability to foresee people's deaths, which leads her into constant trouble. Despite her struggles, I found myself empathizing with her and admiring her resilience. The highlight of the story was its utterly unexpected twist at the end, leaving a lasting impression.

Give me a creepy cover any day, no matter what the story is about, and I’m all in! I went in completely blind with THE SIGHT, and was sucked into the story of a woman who could see the future, Add in the atmospheric vibes from the circus and you have yourselves a chilling story.

I listened to the audiobook format and would definitely recommend this style of reading to really immerse yourself into the story.

*many thanks to the publisher, Dreamscape, and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review

I can't even imagine having the gift, or curse, to see how and when someone would die. Combine that with the fact I've always found the idea of a circus creepy, Melanie Golding give us the perfect setting and plot for a tense read. I did not predict the final twist at the end, but after the reveal, it all made sense. It was such a satisfying and suspenseful ending to an already great book!

The synopsis for this book was a solid 5/5. There was something there I wanted to know more about. And in all honesty, it did start off promising. the angst was there and our MC-Faith did pull a bit of empathy from my petty little heart.
But
It just didn't hold my attention. I zoned out way more than I tuned in.
Not my cuppa tea I guess

This book is about a young girl who works for the circus and can see things before they happen. Usually bad things. I didn't really like the audiobook and in fact did not complete it. I just don't feel like there was enough for me to grasp onto.

I enjoyed this cryptic story of a woman who might be able to see the future. I loved the circus setting, and the story unfolded at a satisfying pace; just as I thought I knew what was going to happen. something was added to change my mind. It kept me on my toes and I was glad to have both an audio copy accompanying my digital copy to allow for a quick read.

I received advanced audio and digital copies. All thoughts are my own.

Rating: 3.5/5 Stars

The Sight is an interesting story about Faith who works in a carnival who can see peoples deaths. Such an interesting concept and I definitely enjoyed this one, it just wasn’t my most favorite read. This story is told in a dual POV through the view of Faith and Betsy. I enjoyed both characters, but they tended to both drift between the present and remembering the past which on audio was a little confusing until I got used to it and understood the dynamics of each character.

Speaking of characters. Majority of the characters were absolutely horrible. And I’m not even going to try to lie, I didn’t care what happened to most of them. I wasn’t super invested in this story in the beginning because of my detachment from these characters but also because I felt like there was so much world building. I will say if you give this one a shot - make sure to read past the 50% mark because after that things really begin to pick up and then WOW its unputdownable. It’s at this point there is way more talk about the “oracle” and some very interesting twists begin to be revealed. The ending was absolute perfection in the mind blowing sense. I loved it so much and wasn’t expecting that at all but it actually made my rating for this one go much higher because of it.
Multiple POVs between Faith and Betsy.

I’m super happy that I stuck with this one until the end, because the ending really was rave worthy. I just wish that the beginning has more suspense or oomph to have me more invested prior to the 50-60% mark. This one is also not much of a suspenseful or thrilling read until that 50-60% mark, its more of a heartbreaking story. But again, there was alot of character and world building which now that I have finished I think was necessary for the story to go the way that it did.

I listened to this one on audio and it was narrated by Ella Lynch, I think she did a great job portraying both Faith and Betsy. I enjoyed listening to this one and found myself able to follow along easily (once I got the characters and timeline down).

The Sight was released on 9/5 and I am definitely recommending this one to my friends because that ending was just *head exploding* good. Huge thank you to NetGalley, Melanie Golding and Dreamscape Media for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

This is my third novel by Melanie Golding, and once more I was not disappointed by the captivating storytelling and creepy vibes. The Sight follows trick rider Faith Harrington, who has the power to foresee a person’s death. It first manifested when she was just a child, wintering with her family of circus performers on a farm over a frozen lake, when a dream suddenly came to her foretelling her brother’s drowning. Ever since that day, simply looking into someone else’s eyes will bring on a vision of how they will die. Faith’s helplessness to do anything to prevent these deaths is what ultimately drove her to try and blind herself by stabbing out her left eye.

Circus folk being the superstitious bunch they are, however, at first they tried to keep Faith out of the family business, and only after a promise from Faith herself to never use her gift did her Uncle Billy eventually allow her back in the ring. Gradually though, even those closest to her began to fear her and pull away, and then one night, disaster strikes in the middle of a show, and Faith is compelled to break her promise as a favor for a dear friend. Had that been the extent of it, all might have been forgiven, but soon afterwards, Faith is caught using her gift again, this time with the entire incident caught on camera, sealing her fate. Uncle Billy is left with no choice but to cast Faith out of her beloved circus and the only life she has ever known.

This banishment ends up setting in motion a series of events that leads to more hardship for Faith, now adrift in a world without support, with a mother whose end-of-life care is racking up some serious expenses. But our protagonist is resourceful and determined, using her ability to her advantage in a truly enterprising manner, selling her gift as a service—until one day, a look into a client’s eyes revealed herself as the killer in her vision of his future murder.

Up until this point, the novel had been a slow build-up of tension and suspense, alternating between the present and flashbacks which served to fill in the gaps in our main character’s backstory. However, as Faith’s journey takes an unexpected turn with the revelation of seeing herself in a vision of a stranger’s death, that was a truly WTF! moment, injecting a fresh jolt of momentum and shifting the narrative abruptly from slow-burn into edge-of-your-seat territory.

At the heart of it, The Sight is a depressing, tragic tale as well. Faith’s life has been marred by death, death, and more death. In a bold move, the author does not shy away from the emotional burden her protagonist carries, incorporating her trauma into creating a heavy, haunting atmosphere. In turn, Faith’s portrait is a picture of a woman who has faced one trial after another, but these experiences have also sculpted her character into one of remarkable depth.

Through all the darkness though, there is some light. While it feels a bit wrong to admit this, I did find some amusement in Faith exploiting her gift by advertising herself as an “Oracle of Death,” and it says a lot about our society that I find it completely believable that some would pay huge sums of money for the services she can provide. In the end, there is also a ray of hope and optimism—that is, right before it is dashed by the parting shot of a last-minute twist.

But that is the game you play when you pick up a Melanie Golding book. You enter a world where the ordinary and the paranormal coexist, and where the line between horror and thriller blurs. The Sight was another great read, showcasing her talent for writing eerie and emotionally charged stories.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

I enjoyed this one, it felt a little slow at times but the twists make up for it! The narrator did good as well.

Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me, which pains me to do because I will try to plug through a book before a DNF, I just don’t do it often, but I felt like the story had nothing going on, and I was constantly waiting for something exciting to happen. It was just not keeping my attention, and the narrator wasn’t good. There was something about her voice that made it very difficult to listen to the book. Maybe it would be better to try this one in a physical book.

I couldn’t get into this audiobook. I found the accent to be distracting and I could t focus on the story line. I found myself trying to speed through it to see if that would help but it didn’t. Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me at the time.

The Sight by Melanie Golding is a story about Faith and her best friend Betsy. Faith has grown up with the circus and now since her mother Iris is ill with cancer, she is shunned by her faimly beacuse she can predict how you are going to die. Faith wears an eye patch so that she can't not see the furture events of death. When she was a little girl she saw how her bother and his friend were going to die. In order to make money Faith and Betsy come up with a plan to charge people for their readings of how they will die. It all goes well until a soldier who is going to be deployed steals their money and is now harrassing them. This book a very fast paced and had the most unbelievable plot twist you wouldn't even imagaine would happen. I have read Melanie Golding's Little Darlings and The Hidden books and absolutly loved them. This is a must for anyone who loves to go to fortune tellers or anyone who loves a good thriller.

OK I’ve read the story 1 million times they’re various titles and honestly I don’t know if I could tell you the difference between this one and the half dozen other ones I have read

I’m kind of tired of this sort of story. It gets old really fast.

That being said, this one’s done pretty well, and the audio is good
