This one just wasn’t for me I did DNF. This one. Maybe it will be a better book for you. I haven’t read anything by her but I found this to be poorly written

This book was such a great surprise! Well-written and compellingly narrated, the book tells the story of Faith, a carnival worker with a gift for seeing how people will die. As news of her gift circulates, she becomes embroiled with some unsavory people, and eventually gets accused of causing the deaths she predicts. Faith also starts to wonder if, contrary to what she's always thought, she might have the ability to change the future she can predict.

I really loved Melanie Golding's storytelling style and characters and I was rewarded at the end with a humdinger of a final twist that I never saw coming! Really enjoyed this one and will be on the lookout for more books by this great author.

This was just ok. I was bored the whole time waiting for something exciting to happen. It took a long time to get through and I did not care for the narrator.

In Melanie Golding's latest, THE SIGHT, Faith has a special gift and is often misunderstood. She sees how a person dies; people fear her and think she is weird. Some say she is cursed. Her name is Oracle of Death. She feels safe inside the traveling circus.

Do not look into her eyes. She can tell you how you will die.

Due to Faith's special gift, she has put her life into the circus. Her world revolves around her family, the circus, her friend, Betsy, and her horse Macha, after getting kicked out of school and bullied.

She did not ask for the gift/curse. She must learn to manage it.

Foreseeing a family tragedy, a customer attacks her, having a vision in full view of the crowd, and is banned from the carnival. She is devastated because she loves her dying mom so much, and her income helps support her. She loved traveling with her mom and performing.

Now she must earn money. When she sees herself in a man's future death, Faith must face her fear of her powers and tune into her gift to fight against a future that would ruin her life—and end someone else's.

Dark, eerie, twisty, and creepy. I am sure the author is very talented, but I am not a fan of horror or supernatural, so this was not the book for me. I did enjoy the heroine and felt for her, and the author did a great job with the atmosphere and the backdrop of the circus/carnival. It was slow-moving, and I was bored and kept fast-forwarding to see how it would turn out.

I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator, Ella Lynch, did a great job. For those who like this genre, it is sure to appeal to a specific audience.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Faith is a girl with a gift, although most see it as a curse. She can see how people die, which turns out not to go over well with everyone. She finds herself relying on her unique skill when her life starts falling apart. I enjoyed this book, the ending especially. There was a lot of anticipation, heartfelt moments, and surprises that kept me hooked. I recommend this one.

3.5 stars.

This book started off slowly but the end made up for it with a twist that caught me off guard.

Ok wow.
I didn't know what to expect from this book, as I had never read any of the author's work before. But the premise intrigued me, and I ended up loving it.
Faith is a girl who has the gift (or curse?) of being able to see someone's death if she looks into their eyes. And after foreseeing a tragedy, she is ostracized by her family.
Faith was suh an interesting and complex character. I really enjoyed hearing about her life within the circus, learning to deal with her ability, and her relationships with those around her. Golding's writing was engaging. I felt Faith's sadness at being turned away by her family and shut out from the circus. I loved the atmosphere of the circus and fair ride, and the complexity of the family dynamic. I listened to the audiobook version, and the narration was wonderful and easy to listen to and get swept away. The narrator did a great job at conveying emotion.

I almost don't want to say this, I'm not giving anything away, but in a way I am in the sense that I'm saying there was something unexpected. I went into this book not expecting any sort of twist or revelation, so my jaw literally dropped towards the end of the book as I did not at all anticipate what was coming. I personally don't like reading that a book has a "twist" because then I am consistently trying to figure out what will happen, but the fact that this book totally surprised me is something to be said about the writing. I wouldn't go into this book expecting a mystery though, it is an emotional story about growth, heartache, and learning to accept things. I thought it was an intriguing story with a well-developed MC and a beautiful ending.

Overall I truly enjoyed this audiobook and look forward to exploring more from this author.

The premise was great but the story itself wasn’t as well written. It felt like a lot of writing between the main story points. The twist was interesting though.

Fun audiobook!!

Faith can look into your eyes & tell you how you’ll die. This is thought to be a curse by her carnival family so she’s a bit of a pariah.

A supernatural thriller.

A bit of carnival life, a daughter grieving her dying mom for over ten years & a mystery that’s solved in a dual timeline.

Faith’s brother drowned in a lake when they were kids, could she have saved him?

Faith’s seen someone else’s death at her hand, can she stop it.

Great ending!

Thank you NetGalley & Dreamscape Media! Just what I was looking for!

I was instantly intrigued when I saw the description for this book and then when I realized the author was Melanie Golding I knew I had to read it. I enjoyed both of her prior books quite a bit. I have to say I was a little disappointed because this book moved so slowly. I loved the narrator and I thought she brought both the two narrators and the story overall to life. There are a couple of twists in this one, but I have to admit I wasn’t really surprised by either of them. I liked the glimpse into modern circus life. Faith was born with a special gift, but it scares everyone who learns of it and has left her separate from her family. When Faith looks someone in the eye she can see their death. Her mother was the only one who remained loyal to her but she is near her own end and Faith is alone except her friend Betsy who she met at lowest point as a child. When Faith loses control of her ability and tells a pseudo famous man how he will die she has to deal with the whole world knowing about her ability and all the infamy that comes with it.

A twisty psychological thriller with a memorable main character. This was good on audio and had some great surprises I didn't see coming. Entertaining and definitely marks Melanie Golding as an author I'll be on the lookout for more from. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

This was an interesting one and I didn't see that little twist coming at the end, which I totally love! I felt so bad for Faith and all that she was put through by her family and the community for something she couldn't control. This was my 1st book by Melanie Golding but will not be my last!

Many thanks to NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books and Dreamscape Media for gifting me both a digital and audio ARC of the latest book by Melanie Golding and wonderfully narrated by Ella Lynch - 4 stars!

Faith has a gift - the ability to see someone else's death by looking into their eyes. But even though a similar gift has been passed through generations, Faith's ability has caused her to be ostracized even by her family and the circus they own. When she sees herself in a man's death, she begins to really be afraid. Desperate for money to take care of her mother, she and her only friend, Betsy, decide to take control and profit from her gift.

This was a mixture of genres, and if it would have been set in the past when circuses were more popular, I think it would have added to the horror aspect. There was a good twist involved that caught me unawares, and the book kept me interested until the end.

This book wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but I ended up enjoying it anyway. It starts out slow as there is a lot of character development that has to take place, but about halfway through it picks up speed. I was hoping for a spookier carnival vibe for the setting, but the creep factor was pretty mild. Faith’s story is suspenseful, however, and I thought the twist at the end was done well. Overall, I enjoyed this one quite a bit once I got past my expectations of it being a scary thriller.

This was quite an interesting book. I have been on such a kick wanting to read books with main characters who can “see” or talk to ghosts, and so when I saw this one I knew it was right up my alley, It was absolutely spooky, and is a total mood-read for Fall. That being said, a lot of it was kind of confusing. To start with, I wasnt exactly sure what was happening when it began.. the writing was just … off, I guess? I dont know how else to put it. Almost like the author started writing it as a historical book but then realized it wasnt going to take place out of time. It also wasnt huge on character development. At the same time, the writing was phenomenal and like i said, a total Fall Mood. Would I read this book again? Probably not. Was it a good read while my kid was at school and I could light the fall candles and drink hot tea? For sure.

I was so disappointed by this book. Absolutely nothing happened until about 90% left and even that fell short. The ending dragged on for way too long. The twist was an eyerolling twist. so disappointed. Now I did like Golding's writing style. I would try another one of her books, this one just fell flat for me.

I DNF this book. Not only did I not like the narrator but I found this book to be very boring and every chapter all that was talked about was death. Very morbid and boring.

This is the second book of Golding's that I have tried based on the premise - unfortunately, I just think her writing style is not for me. I had a difficult time reading the first one and wasn't able to finish it, so thought I might do better listening. Unfortunately, that was not the case... Despite a very interesting premise, I found the characters and pacing to fail to hold my attention almost from the opening - despite the dramatic start to the story. I just didn't feel any connection to the characters, which made the slow moving plot difficult for me to engage with as well. Golding and I are just not well matched... There's nothing wrong with it, it just didn't grab me the way I expected it to.

There are so many “what if’s” involving super powers and other supernatural gifts. One that frequently comes up is: if you could find out how you die, would you want to know?

That’s exactly what this story goes into. With the main character, Faith, having the “gift” to see how a person’s life will end.

I really enjoyed the setting and concept of this book. I think the setting of a carnival gave it an eerie feeling, but not in a clown/horror way, but rather in a mysteriously, dark way. I wanted to know more about the members of her family and the different acts/shows in the carnival.

Having the audiobook really delivered a different tone that helped me to visualize as the narrator was reading. Some scenery was quite beautiful in the story.

There are so many layers to each of the characters, that I think it’d need to be a longer book to get more and understand some of their internal motivation/conversations/struggles. This gave us a nice taste of each of the characters without overdoing it.

Overall, I did enjoy the book, but found a lot was said in the description. This is my first book read by this author and I look forward to their other work!

Thank you to the author, Melanie Golding, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the audio arc of The Sight in exchange for my review!

This was actually a really sad book! Grief is prevalent, the sense of not belonging even in a circus, and a feeling of hopelessness all because you're a little different. I did enjoy the audio book and felt it could be listened to at a 2.5x speed and still be understood directly!
