Kendall's an introvert who spends her Friday nights working at the campus library, while Vincent is the star of the basketball team. When an injury and a poetry assignment lands Vincent in the library during one of Kendall's shifts, suddenly they find themselves making out amongst the British literature. Both Kendall and Vincent struggle to adapt to each others' lives, and have to decide if they really want to put in the work to be together.
I'll be honest and say I didn't have high hopes for this book after seeing it pop up on BookTok. However, I was sucked in immediately, and read it all in one sitting. Kendall was a girl after my romance-reader heart and Vincent was a unicorn of a good guy. Their scenes got surprisingly spicy, but it never detracted from the story, and I am definitely putting Annie Crown on my favorite authors list.

Night Shift by Annie Crown
Synopsis: Opposites might attract in romance novels, but it takes a lot more truth than tropes to make it work in real life.
This book was pretty disappointing. It screams typical wattpad book where the main character is "not like other girls" and was written immaturely. The formatting was poor and I wanted to DNF it pretty early but pushed through because I hate to DNF. Honestly the relationship between Kendall and Vincent was bland from the start and Kendall was simply way too immature, which I get due to her being a virgin but I felt it was unnecessarily emphasized as part of her personality.

➻❥ overall it was a super fun read- but i felt like there wasn’t much plot which was such a shame because it could have been so much more!
the writing overall was so fun to read and it kept me interested!! especially all the banter / jokes that went on !
the characters were very cute together but their constant miscommunication was a bit tiering towards the end - GIRL YOURE A READER HAVE THE CONVERSATION !
but overall super fun and i enjoyed it!!

Thank you to Netgally for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
this book is exactly what I needed. I was in such a bad reading slump and I think it is safe to say that it pulled me right out of it. if you are looking for something cute but also spicy, I would 100% recommend this to you. was this a literary masterpiece? no. but man did I have a fun time with it.
also, round of applause for their communication and banter. the miscommunication made sense and when they talked about their worries, it all worked out. plus, NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP THANK GOODNESS. the premise it just so cute and very me-coded (I too would love to find a boyfriend in the library who is obsessed with me).
something, however, I did not enjoy as much were the names. now before you come for me, yes I know that is extremely petty but I couldn’t care less. there was actually something else I didn’t like about this book but I cannot remember what it was for the life of me. but just know that there was something else…
anyways, this book was honestly just a fun and quick time, so if that is what you are looking for, read this book!

Cringey in the worst way possible. I really really struggled to finish this one, like it took me nearly a month to push through. I somehow felt like it was written by a middle schooler and a 60 year old woman that googled “what do teens like” and tried throwing every single hot topic word in the book at once. There was also absolutely zero build up whatsoever to the characters being in love. The nerdy librarian girl and hot shot basketball player going at it in like the 3rd (and very short) chapter after learning zero about either of them… cringe.

thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad Books for the eARC.
this is Wattpad excellence, im afraid!!! it was so so fun!
Night Shift is a new-adult college romance between Kendall (a huge reader & an introvert) and Vincent (a popular, tall, dark-haired basketball player).
he comes to her for POETRY tutoring 😭 and their attraction is undeniable from the beginning. definitely insta-lust which doesn’t always work for me, but I enjoyed it here. PLUS he falls first… AND he falls harder. which im always a sucker for. 🫠
it has the best aspects of your favorite Wattpad stories: super short chapters, steamy scenes, a fast-paced plot, etc… but none of the typical Wattpad negatives like bad writing or toxic male love interests.
i don’t normally enjoy the “virgin FMC” trope but i actually think that the author handled it very well here! the spice overall was very enjoyable imo.
if you like college romances, then i’d highly recommend checking this out once it’s published !!

Did I enjoy this book? Absolutely! Will it become a must-read recommendation for everyone I know? Probably not. It's an easy-to-read B.R.A.D. that occasionally leans into a YA vibe, but it's cheesy in the best way - especially the meet-cute. However, be aware: this book features the dreaded miscommunication trope.
Kendall, an avid bookworm, finds her Friday night library shift taking an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Vincent, the school's basketball star, leading to an encounter that challenges all the romance novel tropes she adores. Can she start living outside the pages of her favorite books? Read now and find out!
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and Annie Crown for granting me access to this book. All opinions are my own.

This was a cute and quick read. The plot wasn’t really there but if you enjoy a quick read with you might enjoy this except for all the miscommunications.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this early arc!

4 stars!!
I love loved LOVED this one!!
It started off strong and I think just carried on the whole way through.
I loved the characters (Vincent was the CUTEST MMC), the storyline and the TROPES!! It left me wanting to non-stop read it to find out what was going on and ended up being so so good!

Okay, so....I really liked our MCs! Kendall is a total bookworm and Vincent is a jock but....a shy one, which was cute.
Their relationship starts with a casual make out, and while they both want more they're not sure how to ask for it. Kendall goes a little overboard with her trope matching and overanalyzing. I get it. For some girls its hard not to and if I was her, I probably would have misinterpreted things too but.....when it kept happening it got frustrating. She KNOWS miscommunication is a thing and hates but, doesn't stop her from purposely not communicating and figuring out what actually went down lol
It seemed very physical for these two, but they did have moments of genuine connection. Vincent's vulnerability was adorable and sweet and made their more sexual encounters all the sweeter.
It took their friends to make them talk about their issues they were letting get between them and then....the last few chapters of the book were all about sex lol
It was hot but....again, I felt it dragged on a bit before they actually got to it haha
So yeah, a bit over the top with its bookish trope uses, maybe a bit too much focus on the spice, a tad frustrating but.....it was also cute, funny, and hot so I'm too mad about it 😂
Love how both characters started to learn about the others interest both because they really wanted to learn more about each other and to just impress each other. So cute ☺️
Real relationships be like that. We do things we normally wouldn't but we also respect each others comfort zones and needs.

This was a really cute and wholesome quick read. The author used the characters knowledge of typical book tropes in an interesting way to move along the plot.
Kendall and Vincent’s relationship progressed so naturally in such an adorable way.
The really liked the side characters and the groups friendship. I loved how supportive they were of one another.
The book is a pretty quick read so it doesn’t go very in depth with the plot or characters but overall it was enjoyable.

This book is a cute college romance. Kendall is a bookworm and there is a cute incorporation of romance novels into the book. Vincent is the star basketball player and the way they tumble together really adds to their story. I love that the author mentions the character hating the miscommunication trope, but then having the trope happen to the characters - however, they keep trying to fix it! There is certainly spice, and it veers a bit cliché and cheesy for me.
For a debut novel this is adorable and I can’t wait to see what else this author writes in the future! 4⭐️, 2🌶

Honestly I loved this book so much. The FMC, Kendall is super relatable, self aware and flat out acknowledges that her and the MMC, Vincent, need to continue talking and making sure they’re on the same page and not have so many miscommunications. The fact that the beginning and the end are basically the same with just a different/more intense interaction between them is my favorite.
Vincent proves over and over again that he is a nice, genuine guy who is just putting on an outgoing persona and isn’t afraid to show his emotions to those he deems trustworthy. The respect and care he shows Kendall at every step in their relationship, making sure she’s aware that she’s in charge of every interaction and what she says goes no matter what. He’s patient with her and makes sure to be as open with her as possible once they realize there have been some miscommunications along the way. Seriously this is one of my favorite couples, it was so cute.
Thank you Wattpad books, Annie Crown and Netgalley for the arc!

I loved this book so much. It game me One Tree Hill vibes, which is my all time favorite show. I cannot wait to get my hands on a physical copy of this book!

First off thank you Annie and NetGalley for the ARC, I could not be more grateful and secondly I LOVED THIS BOOK!!
OMG, when I tell you I couldn’t put this down I mean it! I want everything Kendall and Vincent have, The way it was realistically written and the meaningful spice and miscommunication made it so much more relatable as a reader.
I love how Kendall relates back to her own romance books and the tropes that they entail (just like I do haha.) I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read more from this author!!

I loved this book! I love that they both communicated even after some bumps in the road. The tension, flirting and chemistry was unmatched. The world needs more Vincent’s in the world.

it’s basic - you can definitely TELL it came from wattpad - BUT was exactly what i needed. things moved relatively quickly, which i appreciated. i had mild issues with kendall; she was ALWAYS jumping to the worst-case scenario (as a fellow introverted, bookish type, i get it, though). overall, a quick, simple, & sweet read.

A light rom com with a library background that was extremely fun to read! Perfect cozy book for fall

This book was so cute! I was giggling like a little kid & my feet were doing the kickies while I was reading this. I could not get enough!!
Night Shift is about our main character Kendall, who prefers to work Friday nights at the library rather than go out to parties. On one night shift while Kendall is reading a spicy novel, the school's star basketball player Vincent comes in and ask for her help locating a poetry book, which ends in a steamy make out session in between the isles of books.
I can't stop talking about how amazing this book is. I loved everything about it. The main character was relatable, the romance was both cute and spicy & I was invested right from the beginning. The pacing of the story is perfect, I could not put the book down! I was even invested in the side characters too.
I will seriously be re-reading this book whenever I'm in a bad mood, and will be picking up anything else Annie Crown decides to write. Can't recommend this enough!

Unfortunately this book didn’t do it for me. There was way too much insta-love and miscommunication, and I couldn’t quite believe that two people could be so head over heels for each other after only three interactions. I also found that the development of the friends, especially on Vincent’s side, was almost nonexistent. It was insanely readable though, and I did like their relationship and their dialogue (even though the instalove was over the top) at the end of the book. It was also a very quick read, and I still would recommend for someone wanting a steamy college romance.
