Quick Summary: A fast-paced, first love NA romance

My Review: Night Shift by Annie Crown was a super sweet, super cute, super quick read about two college students who meet under extraordinary circumstances and explore the possibility of more.

About the Book: When an English major and a basketball jock meet in the stacks, intense fireworks occur. Who knew a bit of EBB could stir up such insane chemistry? Maybe there is something to the saying about opposites attract. Vincent and Kendall were certainly open to seeing what they could have together.

About the Characters:

Kendall was a likable character. She was incredibly intelligent. She was a loyal friend. She could be counted on. She kept her nose clean. She was very much a late bloomer. She was insecure and untutored in the language of flirting, etc. Still, she was learning, albeit reluctantly, about taking a chance on following her heart.

Vincent was a nice guy with an interesting good-bad boy vibe. He was decent and honorable, with just the right amount of arrogance. He was confident yet insecure. He was athletic and smart. He was responsible but willing to take risks. He gave off an experienced energy, while at the same time, he came across as a step or two away from inexperienced.

My Final Say: This was oddly reminiscent of the college experience that many young people go through. Finding the hidden spots of the library in an effort to make out, coming together in a worked up state in order to push the limits of appropriateness, getting seriously hot and heavy with someone you're really in to and seeing how far things can go in a relationship -- it was all very realistic. Readers who enjoy romances with strong first everything situations will really like this story.

Other: The ending wraps up with a "you decide" approach. It's the type of conclusion that leaves you wanting to know more about the couple. I liked being able to walk away thinking that this couple would make things work and that they could have a future together.

Rating: 4/5
Recommend: Yes
Audience: NA (This book will likely resonate very strongly with this age group.)

Okay, well, hmm. I’m going to try to be honest. This book was not what I expected. I was hoping for hot and smutty romance and all I got was mediocre sex. By the way spoilers, she finally had sex towards the last part of the book. I really thought they were going to have sex at the beginning of the book. Which was why this was not exactly smut for me. It was a nice romance that I can honestly read to my grandma. And I’m a bit surprised that others enjoyed this book. The two main characters were boring to read! So, if you want hot, steamy, ridiculously sweet romance, I can suggest other books that were amazing. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for my review.

This was so great I read it in like 2 hours

Self-aware of all the tropes that seem to plague new adult romance as of late (with the mc actually calling them out), while also leaning into tropes that make sense for the story itself and having a lot fun with them. Its clear to me that a lot of care went into writing these characters.

ACTUALLY well written side characters (I swear its been forever since ive read a book with likeable friends), miscommunication is quickly cleared up, and the male lead feels like an actual normal dude.

Probably the best romance ive read in a while, if not ever, but its my opinion that wattpad/fanfic writers just do this genre best

I'm not exactly sure what I expected from this book, but it certainly wasn't what I got. From the promising synopsis, I was anticipating a cute college romance, but the execution left much to be desired. The novel fell short of my expectations and ended up feeling rather bland.

The story revolves around Kendall, a college student working in the campus library, who crosses paths with Vincent Knight, the school's basketball captain. Vincent is going through a tough time due to an injury, and their meeting sets the stage for what should have been an engaging romance.

Unfortunately, the romance in this book felt rushed and unrealistic, bordering on insta-love. The first encounter between the main characters was dull, with dialogue that made me wonderwho actually speaks that way in real life. The lack of authenticity in their interactions immediately took me out of the story.

One of the most critical issues with this book was the lack of chemistry between the leads. There was virtually no build-up to their relationship, and it was difficult to comprehend how these two characters could genuinely fall for each other. Their connection seemed forced and unconvincing, making it challenging to invest in their romance.
The insta-love, lack of chemistry, and slow pacing made it a disappointing read for me.

Thank you, Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Not sure how I didnt find this book until but I loved it so much! I loved the innocence and shyness of the main characters and how many book references/vocabulary was used through out the book! I honestly couldn’t put the book down and finished it in one sitting!

I was super intrigued when I read the premise of this book because it featured a shy spicy book reader library worker and the captain of the basketball team, and I live for opposites attract stories that give me hints of romance books I adore, so I requested it immediately. 🙌

The book started off strong and I was hooked. The first encounter between the main characters happened in the library, where he teased her for reading a mafia romance with a naked man on the cover. I loved their chemistry and their steamy kiss. 🔥

However, things went downhill from there for me. 😢 The characters had a third act breakup before they even got together properly, and I didn’t feel any deep connection between them. I reached 70% of the book and they were still barely talking to each other, let alone being romantic or spicy. I was really frustrated by this and I lost interest in their story. 😠

I was really hoping to love this book, but I DNFed it at 70%. It just wasn’t for me, but maybe other readers will enjoy it more
