A remarkable love story that left me both enchanted and surprised. This book weaves a narrative like no other, and its ability to take love to unexpected places is truly commendable.

The characters in this story are beautifully crafted, each with their quirks and vulnerabilities that make them feel incredibly real. As their love stories unfold, you'll find yourself rooting for them through every twist and turn.

What sets this book apart is its willingness to defy conventional romance novel expectations. Just when you think you've predicted the outcome, it veers in a completely unexpected direction. This element of surprise adds a layer of depth to the story that is both refreshing and thought-provoking.

In a world filled with cookie-cutter romances, this book stands out as a shining example of creativity and originality. If you're looking for a love story that will challenge your expectations and leave you with a sense of wonder, I highly recommend giving this one a read. It's a journey you won't soon forget.

I really enjoyed this story about Daphne & her dating history, with a twist ( won't spoil it).

She is a California person, works in the entertainment industry & we follow her story of current & former relationships. It is fun & yet there's a side of her that we don't know until maybe 1/2 way.

I loved reading about the places she visits & meeting her parents & the guys she dates & her dog, Murphy!!

I even shed a tear or 2....But overall it was such a great story.

Thank you Atria Books & Net Galley for allowing me to read an advance copy & give an honest opinion

Rebecca Serle has truly done it again! I loved every second of this book. The concept was so fun and original. The pacing was well done and I really enjoyed the set up of the book. The relationship flashbacks, both romantic and friendship, were so fun to read and really added to current day elements of the story. I think a big part of that success is that all of the characters were amazing. Serle does a really good job showcasing that illness changes one’s entire life as well as the people around them. If you are looking for a quick heart warming book I highly recommend Expiration Dates along with everything else by Rebecca Serle.

Side note: if you are a fan of In Five Years like I am this is for you quote is for you.
“I guess a lot really can happen in five years.”

I really enjoyed Serle's previous novel and I loved the premise of a character receiving a notice with how long each of her relationships are meant to last. I loved reading about her previous relationships and also they juxtaposition of fate and free will on this lighthearted story. I loved each of the characters and found myself rooting for every single one of them.

with gratitude to netgalley and Atria Books for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review

I have a mixed feeling about this book. It was an easy read and I enjoyed it. But I feel like I am missing why she was getting these notes. And why she believes this. Does she try to prove these notes are wrong? This book definitely makes me think and wonder.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the ARX

Daphne has always known how long each relationship will last...a few days, a week, maybe a couple of years. She knows because she believes that the universe has a plan for her life that it shares with her though slips of paper that she gets around the start of a relationship. Each come with a name and a time-frame. However, when a slip of paper comes with just a name and no length of time that doesn't quite feel right, she begins to question everything she thought she knew about the secret the universe was sharing with her.

Thoughtfully told and full of hope, I enjoyed each page of Daphne's story. Serle beautifully captures how challenging it can be to be single well past your friends while also telling a beautiful story that gives the reader hope for Daphne and hope in their own life as well. I loved that Daphne was a character with flaws who was trying to navigate life and find love. The story unfolded with believable ease that made me root for Daphne through the whole story.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this story.

This is my third Rebecca Serle book. The moment I saw it, I knew I had to read another one of her incredible stories.

While a short book, it had me intrigued from the beginning. Pieces of paper that told the main character who she would date, and for how long? How can you not be intrigued?

I will say, I was pretty devastated when she left Jake. Was it the right choice? Yes and no.

The paper at the end, flying away at the end before she could see what was written on it…apart of me wishes she could have seen but at the same time, she needs to just live life by her own rules. Stop looking at the date she is granted and just live. Just be.

Loved the Seinfeld reference early on in the book.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Rebecca Serle, and Atria Books for allowing me to read this as an ARC.

What a beautiful book. I just loved it. I read it in a day. It’s not very long and even though the length was perfect, I absolutely would have read more.

Daphne Bell has always been aware of that one crucial piece of every relationship that everyone wishes they knew: how long the relationship will last. Since her very first boyfriend, Daphne has received slips of paper with a name and the exact amount of time they will spend together. Until now, where the paper slipped under her door has one word: Jake.

Rebecca Serle is a goddess. I can honestly say that I have not cried this much over a book in quite a long time. I am obsessed, I have not stopped thinking about the marvelous concept of having an answer to a question that kept teenage me awake at night. I LOVE this book.
The ending works very well for the overall character development, but I found myself wishing there was more! The timeline of the flashbacks in relation to each other and the current story was a tad confusing. But those are quite honestly the only non-positive notes I have!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC!

RATING: 4/5 STARS

This is the second book I've read by Rebecca Serle. The premise drew me in to the story immediately and maintained my attention - I finished this in one sitting. Her writing style is simple but lyrical, and she blends magical realism into her storytelling in a very seamless and unique way. The connection between the lead characters kept me reading, and without sharing any spoilers, I was satisfied with the ending!

I have loved some of Rebecca Serle's novels but not this one. I loved the premise but I wanted the MC to do more with these expiration dates. And also by not getting one wouldn't she know this person is her forever? It wasn't fully thought out and it truly was lack luster.

Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC of Rebecca Serle’s Expiration Dates. The book tackles a very interesting concept of what would happen if you knew how long each romantic relationship you entered would last.

-Book description from Amazon.com:
Being single is like playing the lottery. There’s always the chance that with one piece of paper you could win it all.

From the New York Times bestselling author of In Five Years and One Italian Summer comes the romance that will define a generation.

Daphne Bell believes the universe has a plan for her. Every time she meets a new man, she receives a slip of paper with his name and a number on it—the exact amount of time they will be together. The papers told her she’d spend three days with Martin in Paris; five weeks with Noah in San Francisco; and three months with Hugo, her ex-boyfriend turned best friend. Daphne has been receiving the numbered papers for over twenty years, always wondering when there might be one without an expiration. Finally, the night of a blind date at her favorite Los Angeles restaurant, there’s only a name: Jake.

But as Jake and Daphne’s story unfolds, Daphne finds herself doubting the paper’s prediction, and wrestling with what it means to be both committed and truthful. Because Daphne knows things Jake doesn’t, information that—if he found out—would break his heart.

Told with her signature warmth and insight into matters of the heart, Rebecca Serle has finally set her sights on romantic love. The result is a gripping, emotional, passionate, and (yes) heartbreaking novel about what it means to be single, what it means to find love, and ultimately how we define each of them for ourselves. Expiration Dates is the one fans have been waiting for.

-My review:
I loved this book. It kept me up reading way too late when I had a migraine and it hurt to have my eyes open. I was THAT invested in knowing where the story was going and what would happen.

The story jumps around telling timelines between her unfolding relationship with Jake as well as her past relationships.

The ending was a bit predictable but I was so impressed with the growth of Daphne’s character throughout the book. I laughed and cried and hope everyone else who reads it likes it as much as I did.

I wanted to love it more than I did. The plot of whether it’s destiny or free will was amazing and thought provoking. I love the way it ended and how it made me feel. I definitely guessed what would happen by chapter 3 so it wasn’t to much of a surprise but I still enjoyed the read and journey!

I loved this book! A lot! This is my first by the author that I fell in love with and now I just want to go back and read all her books. The book is set in California. Daphne believes that fate has a plan for her life. Every time that she meets a new potential partner she gets a note with their name and how many days until they ultimately break up. The book tells the story of her life through the dates that she goes on. Some dates in LA, Paris and San Francisco. I book was whimsical and fun. The book was so creative and original. I can’t recommend it enough. Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book to read and review.

QUICK TAKE: If you like Rebecca Serle books, you're going to like EXPIRATION DATES. All the heart, humor, romance, and emotional devastation we've come to expect from the author of THE DINNER LIST, IN FIVE YEARS, and ONE ITALIAN SUMMER.

I was hooked from the first chapter! Rebecca Serle blends women’s fiction with a dash of fantasy/magic, but in a way that feels plausible and not at all hokey. I’ve read and enjoyed two of her previous books and was excited for this one.

Daphne is a single 33 year old woman who, since adolescence, has received a postcard for each boyfriend she has, with the name of the man and the length of time they will date. For the first time, the postcard contains only a name with no expiration date. Halfway through the book, we learn a secret that the narrator has been keeping from us that changes the way we perceive Daphne and her relationships.

This book examines the concept of fate versus free will and asks us to consider whether we would want to know the outcome and end date of each of our romantic relationships. Or is it better not to know…?

I was always excited to pick up my tablet to read and found myself having a strong opinion about how the story should end. While I finished on a smile, I was a little letdown by the ending. But I understand the point the author was making and appreciate the writing technique. All in all, it is a book I will recommend to friends.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for my complimentary advanced reader copy in exchange for my unbiased review.

I thoroughly enjoyed Expiration Dates, and will definitely be reading more from Rebecca Serle in the future!

Daphne’s love life has always been limited and pre-determined by some cosmic force…spelled out in notes she receives telling her how long each relationship will last. All that changes when she meets Jake, the man she is supposed to spend the rest of her life with. I loved getting to accompany Daphne on her journey through love, loss, friendship, acceptance, and so much more. I laughed and cried, and walked away feeling like I just had a marvelous lunch date with a long lost friend (in L.A., of course).
