Just okay.

The Royal Daughter is a Hallmark movie in waiting. Once again a young, unmarried girl is pregnant. She has dreams -- He has dreams. Next is 50/50 in my limited Romance General/Women's Fiction readings. They part ways, she carries on without him, not wanting to ruin his life. In between there are many historical time period lows included in the story. They were sad and heartbreaking. There are so many familial problems and I often think these are not families but little factories run by parents. Here is another male disguised as a father.

I found the writing simple, the subject matter overdone, and the characters hard to like.

This was excellent. The author quickly pulled me in with a killer combo of writing style and strong characters. This story unfolds in two timelines--past and present--and two viewpoints. It was easy to follow and both parts had me equally invested.

In the past, the author lets us into the world belonging to Alexandria. She lost her mother as a young girl and was abandoned by her father and carted off to London from her home in Greece. At first she devastated and heartbroken but she soon makes a life for herself with her aunt, uncle, and two cousins. While in London she picks up her love for playing violin and meets a man who encourages her to pursue her dreams.

In the present, we're with Ella, the owner of an art gallery. She'd long ago set down her own brush after her brother's untimely death and has made a success of selling other artists' work. But when her grandmother dies she's called to the estate lawyer's office and is entrusted with a box. It came from a home that was dedicated to helping unwed pregnant girls. Inside there's a music sheet and a photograph. Ella is intrigued to find out more and at the encouragement of a new love sets off to Greece, where the picture was taken, to see if she can uncover more about her past.

It was an enjoyable story full of romance, heartache, hope, and family. But I suppose one thing I questioned was why Ella was given the box and not her mother, as she would have been the direct descendent. I may have missed the explanation for that. There were also times in London when the dialogue felt proper as if it was from the Victorian Era, not the seventies. The family could have just stood on more formal etiquette but I didn't get that feeling otherwise. But I do want to make it clear that I did enjoy this story and was swept away. I highly recommend and look forward to reading the next in the series. I applaud the author for creating such a unique series that hinges on this home for unwed mothers. I read a previous installment, The Cuban Daughter, and enjoyed it greatly as well.

The Royal Daughter is a captivating journey for the heart, soul, and mind.

What a wonderful book to read, a book that is the perfect length, about family and bonds, about life and lose. This is a story set in two timelines and tells the story of a woman who finds clues to her past and wants to find out more thereby travelling to Greece to explore her family history.

This is a very emotional book, both heart-breaking and heart-warming which takes you from past to present, through family secrets and brings you to a climax which tells the story of love and having to give your child up in the times past when single women were not allowed to keep their babies if unwed.

I haven't read any of the other books in this series but would love to find them and read them if they are anything like this one. I really enjoyed it through tears and laughter. A great read. 4 1/2 stars from me for sure.

The Royal Daughter is the third book in this series and follows the layout of the previous two books. This time we get to visit the stunning country of Greece and get to fall in love with hey another set of characters.

Soraya Lane’s writing is excellent and draws you in from the first paragraph. The books are great for a weekend read and I can’t wait for the rest of the series!

The Royal Daughter is the 3rd book in The Lost Daughter series. Each book we get to travel, explore, experience and fall in love with a new country and culture. The Royal Daughter is unputdownable dual timeline, that intertwines perfectly together. A beautifully written story of the past and present both experiencing hope, heartbreak and love. I found myself practically moved by this book as I cried wiped the tears away, only to be crying and wiping again. I highly recommend reading not only this book but the two previous ones.

This is the third book I have read by this author. It is also the third book in the 'Lost Daughter' series but can be read as a standalone. I have also read the first book in this gorgeous series 'The Italian Daughter' and the second book 'The Cuban Daughter' which I would also highly recommend.



This novel consists of a prologue, 35 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!



Well I am ABSOLUTELY gutted to come to the end of this book as it ends my stunning sofa holiday 😭


This book is beautifully written and completely absorbs you in the stunning atmosphere of Greece completely sucking you in with the vivid descriptions leaving you feel the warmth of the the sun and smell of the gorgeous cooking. The synopsis and cover suits the storyline perfectly.


The storyline is authentic, unique and realistic as well as easy to read and heart-warming. It is just one of those absolutely stunning books that promises the reader gets completely lost in the pages for hours. I absolutely loved the beginning where we meet Alex in 1973 in London, to being by Ella's side in London present day where she is given her box from Hope House and all the way through the journey to Greece and more!!! I genuinely felt like I had packed my suitcase leaving rainy Wales for the stunning Greek sun. I could see the stunning island of Skopelos, hear the violin playing in the orchestra, feel Alex's heartbreak and walked along with Ella on her journey to discovering her family's past. There was heartbreak with Alex losing her mum and going through hell with her disgraceful father, love with Ella and Gabriel and Alex and Bernard, devastation when truths were discover too late, anger at Alex's so called father and just so, so much more!!! One moment I was crying with sadness and the next with joy and happiness!!! Seriously make sure you have the tissues at the ready as very rare I am emotional unless there is animals involved but this book even had me blubbering it was so raw and emotionally packed!!! What happened to some of these characters was unbelievably cruel and I had tears streaming down my face. You will also want to book the day off whatever you had planned as once you pick up this book and turn the pages I can guarantee you will not want to put it down!! I found myself picking it up every spare second I had and not wanting to put it down so ended up reading it in one sitting in the end!! I loved that Ella started with just two clues and then following her as it took her all over Greece and London. It was definitely a unique way of exploring places and I am looking forward to seeing if this is how the rest of the series will go. The storyline was filled with a range of emotions and was heartwarming, devastating and had lies, lost and renewed love, relationships, family, friendship and history all going on in this beautiful atmosphere. I loved the fact that we get to read both past and present time lines and Soraya has woven them together absolutely perfectly!! It felt like a lovely break away from a rainy Wales!! I loved how the story ended and I would love to read more about the life in this gorgeous Greek island of Skopelos. An absolutely stunning read!!!


It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.


Clear your schedules, grab your tissues and get ready to go on a journey of a lifetime!!!


Although this is the third book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.



The characters were all unique with their own realistic traits, strengths and weaknesses. It was intriguing to watch
Ella and Gabriel's & Alex and Bernard's relationships grow, develop and change throughout the the storyline. I genuinely felt sorry for Alex throughout but also Ella as she had so much to consider while learning new things constantly about her family. It was also intriguing to see how not only Ella and Gabriel's & Alex and Bernard's relationships changed throughout the book but also how the relationships changes between these characters and their friends and family members including Alex's father and her Aunt and cousins and Ella's mum and her Aunt. It was absolutely amazing to watch the personalities and relationships between all the characters grow, develop and bond and although I don't believe their story will be told in this series again I would love to see what happens in the future with Ella, Gabriel and the future families. I adored Alex's mother's side of her family and how they were so welcoming and loving and each of these characters stories would make beautiful books which I would love to read!! Hint hint Soraya!!! All characters worked perfectly with the storyline and I would love to meet them again and hope to see this made into a series or even a movie!!!


Well done Soraya on another absolutely stunning addition in a gorgeous series, I will definitely be looking for your books any time I need to be swept off to another country!!!

The Royal Daughter is a story of everlasting love. Told in dual timeline I enjoyed reading about a woman’s journey to find her grandmother after having been given a box with clues. It is a story that is hard to put down because of the of the love the characters have for each other combined with the beautiful music and setting. I’m glad this book is a series and am excited to read more stories.

I am thoroughly enjoying the series of the Lost Daughters. In The Royal Daughter, Ella hopes to solve the clues left in a box for her grandmother. Not only does she embark on a journey to unlock the clues and discover the secrets in her family's past, she finds she is also on a journey of personal self-discovery.
The author expertly draws her readers into the story, allowing us to feel a roller coaster of emotions. In a dual timeline story, I find myself drawn to one storyline more than the other, however in this novel I found myself thoroughly invested in both, as two stories are skillfully woven into one, celebrating the strength of love and family. I absolutely loved the setting in Greece and am looking forward to discovering where the next daughter's story will lead readers.

Strong Dual Timeline Emotional Rollercoaster. This is a book about finding yourself and doing your own thing - even when everything and everyone is against you. It is about finding family you never knew you had. It is about unravelling decades old family secrets... that you didn't even know were secrets. It is about falling in love, a few times over - at least once in each timeline, + falling in love with a new land.

As Lane has done throughout this series, she yet again shows remarkable skill in bringing together the two halves of her former writing - the romance + the historical fiction - in a genuinely compelling, but only very loosely coupled, series. Indeed, while other *groups* of authors have, over the last several years in particular, come together with similar loosely coupled "series" where each can be read as standalone, all tied together by some theme or some macguffin... with this series, Lane manages to create a much more cohesive single author version of the gimmick that still maintains the "can be read as standalone" allure of this gimmick. In doing so, in many ways she changes it from a marketing gimmick to her own (so far unique, at least in my own reading) almost genre, really. Because this tale, and this series, isn't *just* romance, though it fills every (mostly "clean" / "sweet" / "behind closed doors") requirement for the romance genre that I'm aware of, even by its more strict interpretations. This book isn't *just* historical fiction, though again, it fills every requirement I'm aware of for the genre (which are much looser generally than romance). And while Lane truly excels in both spaces - and I think I've said this next bit before in other reviews of this series - she truly comes to her full ultimate power in combining them so effectively and beautifully.

And speaking of effective and beautiful... be forewarned here: there are sections near the end where the room gets extremely dusty all of a sudden. To the point that some readers may cry out for an Audible version of the tale, as it may genuinely become impossible to read the words on the page with your eyeballs due to the amount of dust in the room. (To be clear... men don't cry. But sometimes, sometimes rooms get extremely dusty - and it may *look* like we're crying or even bawling as we try to keep the dust out of our eyes. ;) )

Very much recommended.

I finished The Royal Daughter by Soraya Lane last night before I went to sleep. This is the third book in The Lost Daughters Series. I know there is at least one more coming but, I honestly hope she doesn’t end there.I actually think seven books would be a better ending point. If you haven’t read any of them yet, I highly recommend them. They are stand alone novels and only have a few minor characters in common so you can jump in with this one or go back to the first one. I promise you won’t be lost.

Soraya Lane is responsible for my jump into historical fiction. She has a way of developing her characters thereby making you want to know them better and have an interest in what is happening to them. The first book I read of hers took place during the war and I opened the book with trepidation. I didn’t think I would make it all the way through. Imagine my surprise when I couldn’t put the book down. I started following her and the rest is history. Literally. Now, I read a lot of Historical Fiction.

The main characters in these books find out they have family members that were given up for adoption years ago. The background and circumstances of each story is different. As you can guess from the titles the locations are different. Their order is The Italian Daughter, The Cuban Daughter and The Royal Daughter taking place in Greece. They all have a few different locations. I love to travel with the characters to new lands they haven’t visited and see it through their eyes. You meet some locals and the food they eat is an experience you don’t want to miss.

All of the stories are heartbreaking but this one is so moving. The music they speak of is almost a character in itself. It speaks to my heart. I walked down the aisle to the main song that is the center of this book and was left as a clue. This book teaches us to never give up on true love. Never give up on the love of your family. This is such a heartwarming and heartbreaking book. This book will elicit a deep sigh of satisfaction as you read the last word. 

If you love Historical Fiction, Love stories, mysteries or women’s fiction, you will love this book and the series. The Sapphire Daughter is due out on March 8th. You have plenty of time to get caught up and ready for it if you decide to read the whole series. If not, at least look at this beautifully written book as your next read. The Royal Daughter (The Lost Daughters Book 3) is another lovely story of finding family after mother and baby were separated. By Soraya Lane is one well written, heart touching story that grabs your attention until the final scene which takes place in Greece. Part heartbreak, part heart warming but all intriguing Ella’s mother’s and grandparents’ story coming to light. The pace is smooth but not rushed as Ella decides to search out what the photograph and sheet music sent to her really entails. I was sure how it would work out between Gabriel and Ella after she goes to the Greek Island but shouldn’t have been concerned. All is as it should be by the last chapter.

Hope House and the mysterious little boxes that connect the past to the present has been such a unique and captivating concept. It was a thrill to read at the conclusion of this story that perhaps another story is coming soon. Each book stands on its own being connected by Hope House. The Royal Daughter is one marvelous addition to this series of Lost Daughters.

I know when I read a book by Soraya M. Lane my heart is going to be broken. Happens every time. Her books are excellent she has a way of writing from the soul, and I can feel all of the emotions portrayed in the story. I'll admit the story brought tears to my eyes, and that doesn't happen often when I read.
The setting was perfect, oh how I would love to visit Greece, it sounds so welcoming and beautiful. The characters so realistic, I would have loved to meet so many of them. My heart felt what the characters did, I was hoping, praying things would turn out differently. Life can be so unfair sometimes, why must we suffer so much at times.
This is a dual time historical fiction book. Taking place in modern day England and in the nineteen seventies Greek island of Skopelos.
Finding a box of memories meant for her family left behind at a former home for unwed mothers whose babies were adopted, Ella knows she must follow the clues back to the beautiful island where it all started.
On this beautiful island we are visiting in the nineteen seventies we meet a young woman, just twelve years old who has just had her whole world ripped apart, her mother has died in a horse-riding accident. Her father has no compassion for her, and she is so alone. On top of this they are forced to leave their country and her life is in an upheaval. Her aunt, whom she hasn't seen in many years steps in and insists she move in with her family in England. All goes well for quite a while and with her newly discovered musical talent she meets another talented musician when she's a teen and falls in love. Life is not to be rosy and sweet for her as she once again faces upheaval as her father rips her away from her lover for bringing shame to the family and his own greedy purposes.
Ella discovers the past and is heartbroken by all she finds out when she visits the island and meets her forgotten Greek family. Though sad, her discoveries make her a better, stronger person able to cope with changes. We discover the strength of family ties that make us a stronger person, more capable to handle life. Unrelenting love that lasts through life's storms.
I was captivated as I read and couldn't put this down. I can't wait to read the next book by the author.

When Ella’s boyfriend, Gabriel convinces her to go to the Greek island to uncover the truth behind the photograph and tells her that he will wait for her to return. Ella finds out the heartbreaking story of Alexandra and how she and her father were forced to move to London. But, the more time Ella spends in Greece the more she uncovers the horrible truth of what happened to her relatives so many years ago. She also realizes how much she loves the island and wonders if she should return to London or if Greece is her new home.

The Royal Daughter written by author Soraya Lane is the third installment in The Lost Daughters Series. I absolutely love how this author can transport you from wherever you are to the beautiful Greek Isles. The detailed description of the picturesque island of Skopelos makes me want to visit Greece. I loved the dual timeline of this novel, it worked well and was never confusing. I enjoyed all the characters of this novel and found myself feeling heartbroken for Ella. I loved the unexpected ending. This is a wonderful addition to this amazing series that can be enjoyed as a standalone. I loved everything about this book and I highly recommend it.

A box is given to Ella that which belonged to her grandmother. Ella finds an old photograph of a lady and child along with sheet music she wonders how they could be related to her. Hopes House is a home for unmarried mothers and this along with a sheet of music were left behind.

She finds out the photograph was taken at the Greek island. Her boyfriend Gabriel suggests she go to the island and try to solve the mystery. She finds out that about a royal family who had to flee life to London, along with a girl. The girl left behind a young violinist whom had her heart.
Will she find her answers? Is she related to anyone from the islands? Will she find a new life or go back to Gabriel? As always Lane novels are so beautifully written and full of love, emotion, heartbreak and life.

Third in this author's Lost Daughter series and following The Cuban Daughter, this dual timeline novel starts with Ella finding an old photograph. With beautiful descriptions of the Greek Islands, we follow Ella as she finds out her history with her Greek family she never knew about. Sensitively written and recommended.

The common theme with this whole series is that a group of women are called to a lawyer’s office in London and told that a family member from the past was born at Hope House, a home for unwed, pregnant women. They are each given a box containing mysterious clues left by the mothers giving their babies up for adoption. The recipients of the boxes had no idea their loved ones had been adopted. So begins a heart-breaking, but also hopeful, journey to unravel the meaning of the clues and uncover long-buried family secrets. Book 3 takes the reader between London and the beautiful islands of Greece, with alternating timelines of the present day and the 1970s. In 1967, after a tragic accident takes the life of her mother, Alexandra is forced by her father to leave her beloved home in Greece and go live with her maternal aunt’s family in London. She becomes a talented violinist and falls in love with a renowned cellist in the London Symphony Orchestra, but devastating events shatter their dreams of a future together. In the present day, Ella receives a box from Hope House with her grandmother’s name on it. Inside is a faded photograph and a sheet of music. How these items relate to her family is a complete mystery. As she begins to follow these clues, Ella finds herself traveling to the Greek Island of Skopelos where she believes the photo in the box was taken. Another heart-wrenchingly beautiful book by Soraya Lane. The third in the Lost Daughters series and in my opinion the best one yet. Though they are all great. This one just took my breath away. Made me have those big ugly tears. Made my heart beat fast. It was just so good. Though it was sad it was also happy in so many places too.

This one is told in two time frames. One in the present and one in the mid sixties and up. Told from two people as it goes about bringing together another family who had been separate by adoption. Found because of Hope. Literally because of Hope House. A home for unwed mothers who have a choice. Who are not kept there against their will. Who make the decisions based on their own feelings and heart. Though it's painful and hard at the time.

A story that is written with so much feeling. So realistic. This book will make you believe in following your heart. Following your dreams. It's about family who found each other when some didn't even know they were lost. Finding a part of yourself in someone who has loved you your whole life though you had no idea they even existed. Bringing together a mother, daughter and granddaughter. Lost loves. Present loves. Making up for years of lost time. It's about Hope.

I loved reading this book. It was well written and left me wanting the next book so bad. It's just the kind of book that makes you feel emotion and gives you lots of feeling. It's about loss, love, family. It's about a lot of things but mostly finding lost family. Having the clues and finding out how they fall together. It's a work of art in many ways.

You really don't want to miss this one. It's excellent. From start to finish it's captivating.

I love the setting of beautiful Greece.
I also really like the timeline of the early 1970s.
The book is tinged with a lot of sadness. Alexandra has to deal with immeasurable loss and the disregard by her father.
The two different time line approach worked well for the story.
My heart ache when Alexandra had decisions forced upon her, but the lost love angle resurfaced. I still felt like they had been robbed of so many years. Bodily harm should have befallen her father.
I am enjoying this series.

The story had so many twists, secrets and sad moments.

I loved the setting and the story kept you hooked.

I highly recommend this book.
