I loved this book. It kept me gripped throughout and the twist at the end I didn't expect at all - despite what other reviews say, I didn't see it coming!

The whole book was well written and the story was great, would recommend to anyone looking for a good book to get them out of a reading slum.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this book. This was a very quick absorbing read. The story was a little bit predictable but it got me in the end.

I was not able to finish the book and therefore do not feel that I can give an unbiased review about the book, its plot, characters, or the author's work. I might revisit this book at a later time and finish it then, but not right now.

Main plot: 4 stars
Final two chapters: so many more than 5 stars. And too many tears to count. Obviously an ending like that brings the whole book up.

This was a whirlwind that I couldn’t put down. Taking place in a dual-timeline format, the present day story takes place over a one-week period where a child’s murder is being investigated. The two timelines blend together perfectly, and revealed just enough about each timeframe as the story progressed.

As a former child welfare attorney who helped several of my clients through their adoptions, this was particularly meaningful. Seeing the adoptive process—including the ups AND downs—is so important, and so rarely discussed in favor of the positives.

Did I expect the twist? Yes, I started to clue in about halfway through. Did I expect the second twist? Also yes.

This is a well-written domestic thriller that I absolutely loved.

What a ride this book takes the reader on. Full of unpredictable twists and turns at every corner. It's on another level.

Extremely predictable. It was fast paced, good writing with some grammatical errors, but Emery as the main female character was just so boring. No personality. I predicted the ending about 5% in

This was a fast read.
I read in one go in the plane and it kept me riveted during the 4 hour flight in a very uncomfortable seat.

Emery, married to Matt, a US senator, seems to have it all: a perfect husband, a perfect house, perfect children, a perfect life… until her young daughter Betsy dies, and her newly adopted son seems to be the first suspect in her murder.
And to add to an already complicated and hard situation, Cooper, her first love, is in charge of the investigation.
The further she tries to discover the truth, the more secrets we uncover in the whole not so perfect life of this family.

Like I mentioned earlier, this was a very fast read with a few leads that kept me guessing a little. I enjoyed learning more about the different characters and the multifaceted and complicated relationships of an adoption within and outside the immediate family.

Thank you Netgalley

Emery thinks she finally has what she wants, a picture perfect family, but soon all that is ripped away. The Perfect Family is a work of all the emotions, sorrow, horror, confusion, Anya Mora made me feel it all. When a parent's worst nightmare becomes her reality how can she go on? Her daughter Betsy is dead, what is worse... her son may have killed her.

Mora writes another of the thrillers we have come to know and love. This domestic mystery kept me up reading late into the night. Mora's will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Thank you Joffe Books and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Perfect Family, written by Anya Mora, is a republished book, also previously published as Tuesday’s Child. This book tells of Emery and Mark, a married couple with one daughter Betsy. After seeing something in the paper, Emery decides she wants to adopt a young boy named Holden. But when her daughter dies, Emery has to question her son, and decide how to support him when people think he is a killer. I really enjoyed this book, even though I felt some of the adoption parts were a little unrealistic and I had trouble liking the main character at parts. But it was a great thriller, and I really enjoyed seeing the different family dynamics and how the relationships grew and changes. This was my first book by this author, but I look forward to reading more! Thank you to NetGalley for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

Secrets and lies abound. Full of twists and turns and I read it so quickly! It did however have a few manuscript errors!

One of my favorite authors that I found on Kindle Unlimited. I think every book is great and entertaining. Quick reads that you actually enjoy. Would definitely recommend.

Mark is a senator aspiring to be a congressman. Emery is a stay at home mom to her 10 year old daughter Betsy who feels like she needs some purpose in her life to match all the good things her husband is doing for the world. She sees a foster child named Holden in the newspaper and immediately knows how she can make a difference. The seemingly perfect family fosters Holden and ultimately adopts him but everything isn’t rainbows and butterflies. Holden has had a rough 10 years of life and it shows. The family is already under duress when Betsy is found murdered in the woods and all signs point to Holden as the culprit. Did he do it? Can Emery love and trust her son when the police are suggesting her murdered her daughter?

The story is told through alternating timelines (pre- and post-murder), mostly through Emery’s POV. The story felt very immersive. I never would have guessed the main twist in a million years but I did like the ending. I read the first 20% over a few days and then 20-100% in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. Overall I definitely recommend this book!

I received this as an ARC so some errors are typically to be expected but from what I understand this is a rebranded book that was previously released under the title “Tuesday’s Child”. For a book that has been (is being) published twice, I would except far less errors. Not only were there a fairly large amount of spelling and grammar errors sprinkled throughout, there were some pretty glaring content errors as well. There would be times I would be reading a page and have to go back and reread the previous pages thinking I missed something because the plot/topic of the chapter would change within a couple of paragraphs in a way that made no sense. Rereading the previous pages/paragraphs didn’t make it make sense either:

There were some more specific things that bothered me as well. Here are some examples:

*Caroline being called strictly Caroline through the whole book (at least all the parts where her character was relevant) and then the last few pages have the main characters talking about someone named Caro. She hadn’t been mentioned in awhile and I was trying to figure out who the heck Caro was. There were a lot of different characters’ names to keep track of and they were all pretty basic names so switching to a random nickname for a fairly unimportant character at the end of the book made things feel more complicated than necessary.

*Holden being left in a trailer with his dead aunt for two weeks prior to being placed in foster care but then at the end of the book he mentions something about his biological mom not being able to tell him who his grandparents were or if he had any aunts.

*At the end of the book, Emery said she slept for the first time since losing her daughter but a good chunk of the early parts of the book depicted her sleeping a lot to keep her mind off things. Even her husband commented about how lucky she was to be sleeping because he hadn’t slept in days. While on the topic of Emery, the way her grief was portrayed in general was weird. It felt like she was like “well, my kid is dead but thank goodness I get to have a new one with someone I actually like. Moving on now!”

Okay that’s it… I swear I really did like this. I just think with some proofreading and a few edits, it could have been 5+ stars and one of my favorite books of the year.

Pros: pacing, THE TWIST, genuinely loved Emery’s character and felt for her throughout the book, good supporting characters for the most part, kept me guessing the whole time

Cons: editing needed!

Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Emery and Mark’s world falls apart when their daughter, Betsy is brutally murdered while trick or treating. Prime suspicion falls onto Holden, their adopted son with behavioural issues. Determined to find the truth, Emery enables the help of old flame and Sheriff, Cooper to discover the truth of that fateful night.
Told from multiple timelines, Holden is made out to be a monster invited into the house in this dark psychological thriller. The truth is finally revealed in a page gripping twist. A new author to me, but already looking forward to read more from Anya Mora.

I loved this book and raced through it,
When you adopt a child how far will you go to protect him compared to your biological child? That is the dilemma that Betsy's mother is facing after she is found murdered.

A captivating fusion of a domestic thriller and a psychological enigma, this book, while occasionally presenting a slightly implausible ending and relying on some coincidences for explanation, maintains an engaging pace.

It delivers an emotionally charged narrative that tugs at the heartstrings, evoking a mix of excitement and heartache throughout the family's journey.

I felt deeply moved by the plight of the young girl, particularly during the poignant final segments where her perspective takes center stage, leaving me teary-eyed.

Having encountered this author for the first time, I'm eager to explore more of her literary repertoire in the days to come!

I was sure this would be a 4-5 star read for me. It started out quite strong and then it completely went off the rails. The MC was annoying beyond words. In case you don't already know, she's a good mother. No, scratch that, she's a great mother. And the reason we know this is because she feels the need to tell us over and over and over again. The adoption process moved at the speed of light, and maybe it works like that for rich politicians, but it felt very forced and rushed. The twists and turns became very convoluted and somewhat predictable. And the secrets... my goodness! I don't believe I'll remember much about this one in a week or two, to be honest.
