Loving this series so much! I think this one is my favorite so far. Jessica and Quaid, or Q as he has been now for 5 years, have such a unique and dynamic relationship. Having been happily married but then having everything ripped apart because of the chemical fire their hazmat team responded to, changed everything they all knew. Jess grieved Quaid's death hard, because yes she and their whole team were told he was dead, so she went into a downward addiction spiral. Meanwhile, he had been taken and was being tested like a lab rat with drugs that took his memories away from his former life and everything he knew. Fast forward 5 years after the fire and a new clue comes to light that maybe Quaid is still alive. This sets in motion a whole new dynamic with many challenges for Jess, Q, and the whole team or family as I like to think of them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from cover to cover and the intricacies of Quaid and Jess's reunion.

Loved Jessica and Q. She's believed him dead for years, but those darn bad guys have had him and been using him as test subject. The gang's all here to rescue him.

I have read a couple of books from skye before and I did really enjoy them, so I jump straight on the bandwagon for this book, but unfortunately it wasn’t 100% what I expected, but I would read more of a Books again. I just think this one compared to others of her box wasn’t the greatest, but I did love the romance. The pacing was set really well I just didn’t mess with me personally, and I think that is a personal preference.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

When I read the description of this book, I really wanted to read this story of Jessica's loss of her husband and then to find out that he might be alive - wow!

I did not realize that this is a series of books but this book was easily read as a stand alone. After reading about Jessica and the other people in her firefighting group that were changed by this mysterious fire, I now want to read the previous books. They all sound intriguing.

There was a lot of drama, action, and intrigue as the group tries to find out about this prisoner, Q. And if he is so powerful, how do they keep him under control?

What impacted me the most is that Jessica has to decide if she can accept that Quaid really did die and Q may be in his body but he is not Quaid mentally. (Did I confuse you there? Sorry but hard to put this in words!) Can she love this new version? So, I will end there and you can find out if there is a HEA!

OMG!!! The mysterious Q from Shadow Guardian was Quaid!!! One of the firefighters in the chemical fire of Hot Blooded. Skye Jordan just builds up more and more suspense in this Phoenix Rising series!! I was already hooked on the first two parts, but this one was just… totally awesome!

I loved Jessica Fury. What a woman! She picked herself up, after the horrendous death of her husband. But now… five years later, he is not dead! But he is also not the man he was before. Without a recollection of their life and their marriage, Jessica isn’t sure if she can cope with seeing this new Quaid. And it just breaks your heart.

And Quaid, oh my god Quaid. What have they done to him?! This book is gripping, full of suspense, heartbreak and agony. It keeps you up at night. But what a story! I do hope there will be another story in this series. Allthough I don’t know if Skye can top this one.

Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

New to me author Skye Jordan catches my attention with her book title and the word Phoenix. If there is a phoenix somehow involved, I will pick up the book and read it. The blurb did not prepare me with the amount of heartache in this book. This is the 3rd book in the series and it feels like it can be read as a standalone. I do want the read the previous two books and the rest of the books that come out in this series.

What I liked about this book is how meaty it felt to me. There are layers to this conspiracy. There are complex characters and several different things going on at the same time. There is an excellent recap in the beginning to set the stage for great loss.

This story is truly about rising out from the ashes. Jessica Fury is finally focused again after 5 years after her husband's death. She hit rock bottom and 1 year ago, she pulled it all together to seek the justice she needs for the murder of her husband. Little does she know that her entire world will be turned upside down again.

The sheer cruelty in this book does not shock nor surprise me. It reaffirms what I feel about most politicians. It also reaffirms how I think some of our military are being used in ways they shouldn't be. And that some of our soldiers are being lied to and blackmailed into illegal behaviour in the name of "following orders".

Author Skye Jordan does a great job with the fringe science mixed with psychic powers. I loved it. This paranormal suspense is recommended to readers who love second chance romances.

I liked the book and the characters. Q was quite intriguing. Not a total romance book but there is some. Lots of paranormal elements.

This is book 3 in the Phoenix Rising series and it can absolutely be read as a stand alone, although I do like the other books as well. As a high-profile Washington lobbyist, Jessica Fury has all the coveted trappings of money, connections, and influence. But five years ago, she had something far more happiness. She shared a firefighting career with her husband and the love of her life, Quaid. Then one day her hazmat team walked into a chemical inferno--and Quaid never walked out. Jessica has been through hell to piece her shattered world back together. Then a rumor surfaces that could bring a miracle or destroy her--again. Q has been a prisoner for as long as he can remember. The men who hold him have honed his mind and body into weapons, and he's developed abilities no one understands. They wipe out his memory, test him like a lab rat, and lie. Even though his past has been erased and he doesn’t believe he has anything to live for, instinct tells him there is a woman out there who needs him. And what his mind can't remember, his body can't forget.

Ok, so let me just say that the only reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is because it starts out super slow and I had a hard time getting into it. But once I was further in, I was completely into it and couldn't stop turning the pages!! The things that Quaid has been through, and still going through to a point, are heart breaking. Especially when you add in his wife, who has also been struggling. In a completely different way, but still struggling. I loved how this story played out and how these two come back together. It was just something that grabs at your heart though and keeps you reading until there are no more pages! I didn't want it to end.

I'm loving the Phoenix Rising series! I These books can be read as standalone stories but are best read in order for the fullest effect of the developing background story. This story is suspenseful, action-packed, steamy and emotional. I can't wait for the next in the series to see how the story unfolds.

What a great read! Lots of action , suspense and steamy romance. My kind of book. When Jessica and her husband Quade respond to a fire, with the rest of there team, and accident with chemicals leaves then devastated with one of their team dead. It also leaves them with abilities they can’t explain!

I am seriously enjoying this series. It is like a contemporary romance with paranormal and military aspects. That is the best way I an describe it. This book was HEAVY. It was another second chance romance (loving this era) but it was different than your typical second chance since in this case Jessica thought her hubby had died. She had been living a shell of a life. She stayed in touch with her friends but couldn’t get too close because it hurt too much. Everything changes when Keira and Teague are at her front door. They want her to scrye a coin that could only be her husband’s to help them track where he could be. She is having a hard time understanding if what she is experiencing is really happening or a hallucination. But of course this is all real. The gang is back together and they are trying to save one of their own. Her hubby who died to protect her in the warehouse fire. The man who has been haunting her dreams for the past five years. The man who she can’t move on from but she also can’t wrap her mind around him being alive. She is surrounded by guilt for not looking for him.

And Quaid. Holy shit what this man has endured. He was ripped from the love of his life and really life as he knew it and has been subjugated to all kinds of experimenting and torture to help the military gather intel on their enemies. He sees his friends and Jessica and feels a pull toward her but doesn’t remember anything. It is devastating. He convinces himself that his torturer has found another way to persuade him to do things. These people are now being dangled in front of him but they aren’t real but then why does he feel such a draw towards Jessica?

I haven’t read a romance where the main character has lost his/her memory but omg it was HARD to know what they meant to each other without them being able to express it yet. Quaid is not the same man that went into the fire but Jessica isn’t the same woman either. This was a great book! I have no idea who will be in book 4 or even if there is a book 4 BUT I am here for it! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Jessica and their firefighting team get called to a burning building. Quaid goes in first and spots some barrels on fire and melting. So he tries to get the numbers on the barrels so they know what they are up against but then one explodes. He knows this stuff is bad news and tries to get out and let his team know not to come in because another barrel is about to explode. But before he can, the barrel explodes, giving him a big blast of the chemicals and throwing him across the room and into the wall, breaking many of the bones in his body. Some of his other teammates also get exposed to the chemicals but most make it out alive. Back at the hospital Quaid dies because his injuries were so severe, or at least that's what his team are led to believe. In reality Quaid is kidnapped by some government officials and held hostage, tortured and experimented on because he ended up with the most supernatural abilities from the chemical exposure.

Some of the other teammates that were inside the building when it exploded also have new abilities and 5 years later they realize that Quaid, now known as Q, had been alive this whole time and they set out to rescue him.

After the rescue, the government, mostly officials from the DOD are after Quaid and the teammates because they know too much and some of them have abilities the government wants to use. But Quaid has unique abilities that not even he fully understands how to use.

While Quaid and Jessica get to know each other again because he has no memory before his time being captured by the government and being used by them, they also have to try and find a way to stay one step ahead of the people after them and to use their abilities to help themselves.

While this book started out a bit slow, things started picking up after they realized Quaid was a live. A few twists are thrown into the story which made things more exciting to read and the pace really picked up. It was fun to watch them learn how to work as a group again, watch Quaid get to know his team again and to watch the romance blossom between Quaid and Jessica again. It ended up being quite the action, drama, military, mystery read. This is book 3 in the Phoenix Rising series but I didn't feel like I was missing much. So for me at least, I was able to start in the middle of the series.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed how seamless the normal world was from the paranormal aspects of this book. The themes can be kind of dark, so make sure to check trigger warnings. I loved the camaraderie shared between the characters in this book. The end of the book came kind of abruptly, which was unexpected.

I hadn't read the previous stories but this one absolutely works as a standalone. I was quickly caught up and invested in the characters. I was rooting for Jessica and Quaid. The supernatural aspect was unique. There were times my heart pounded, times I smiled, and times my heart ached. I couldn't read fast enough! I'll be reading the entire series now.

I just love this series! It’s such an interesting premise: a special hazmat team responds to a warehouse fire, only to be involved in an explosion that gives them special abilities.
Jessie thought she lost her husband the day of the explosion 5 years ago. Little does she know that he has been part of an experiment the last 5 years that also removed his memories of his life before.
This was truly heart-wrenching. Jessie’s struggles and the fact that Quaid is nothing like the man she used to love and thought she’d lost.
But they try to find their way, while also dealing with the same challenges the group has been facing for the last 2 books: Schaeffer.
5 stars!!!

I really enjoyed this interesting take on a paranormal romance. With an array of different powers, the characters that populate this series have developed them after being involved in an accident and fire that altered their DNA. This book is the third in the series, I seem to have missed the first two, but it was fairly easy to pick up on most of the background.
The storyline was interesting, it was a second-chance romance of sorts. Although in this case, Quaid has no memory of his past, while his wife Jessica believes him to be dead. The connection between them still exists, but with everything that has happened, their relationship has changed and possibly gone forever. I enjoyed reading about their rediscovery of one another.
It was clear by the end of the book that not all questions had been answered and I wondered if these might be touched on in future books? In many ways, the end did come quite quickly, but I still enjoyed it. There were lots of characters to keep track of here and I think that it might have been slightly easier if I had read previous books. That was really the only area that made it more complicated though.
This was a good read and I would like to go back and read the first two books, as well as reading future books in the series.

Firefighters that have supernatural gifts, and are running from the government. Need I say more? Overall, I enjoy this series and the concept is just so cool and quiet honestly believable. This particular one in the series I struggled a bit with, only because I felt like
story focused so much on the past. Personally flash backs aren’t one of my least favorite tropes.

I received an ARC from Net Galley. This is the first time I have read and heard of Skye Jordan.

The books cover, and title is definitely eye catching and interesting. The book definitely had a lot going on. I personally struggled to keep track of the main characters and their actions throughout the book.
