This is one of the better psychological thrillers that I have read in a while. My ARC books have been pretty hit or miss lately. This one was a definite hit. Meghan Michaels is an ICU nurse. She tries not to get too emotionally attached to her patients but when she is assigned a young woman suffering from a traumatic brain injury resulting from an attempted suicide, it hits a little close to home. Then a witness comes forward and suddently the attempted suicide becomes an attempted homocide and Meghan finds herself in deeper than she should be.

The prologue did a great job of setting the tone for the novel. It grabs you from the first page, giving you a preview of what's to come. But when the events of the story meet the events from the prologue, I found myself a little disappointed…but not for long! The climax of this book had me doing a double take. I read those few lines twice just to make sure I read them correctly. I knew everything had to tie together in some way but I was not expecting what I got.

This is a plot heavy book. The characters were well written but I was definitely more invested in how the story played out than I was in the characters themselves. Although I was taken by surprise a couple of times, I did find some parts a little predictable. There were lots of little crumbs dropped to try to throw you off course, lots of characters that leave you questioning what you think you know, but for the most part I accurately guessed which ones were more than just a little "off".

I was also a little confused by the secondary storyline that gets sprinkled throughout the story and then plays a huge part in the ending of the story. I didn't really get the point of this because it really has nothing to do with the main plot but was given a lot of real estate in the last few chapters. It was anxiety producing and angsty but it felt like filler. For me, it didn't really contribute to the overall story. Regardless, my overall opinion of this book is very positive. It kept me on the edge of my seat and looking over my shoulder for most of the book. I would definitely recommend grabbing a copy of this one in April if psychological thrillers are your thing.

She’s Not Sorry by Mary Kubica (Out 4.2.24)

I absolutely devoured this book. What seemed like a cut and dry plot, turned into something else. Kubica tells the story of Meghan, an ICU nurse, who lives in Chicago. When a woman who has brought in, we deep dive into a twisty, layered plot.

Piece by piece it comes together and it was well done. Meghan drove me nuts when it came to Nat, but the reasoning she acts as she does is explained well enough that I could buy in. The ending was on point as well, which is is always a worry for me with thriller/suspense books. Like please don’t steer this ship into the iceberg. Kubica does the opposite. She ended this in a way that made me satisfied.

Highly recommend!

Have you been to Chicago before? I’ve been w the husband twice & took my mom a couple years ago!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I love Mary Kubice thrillers and this one was fantastic. I couldn't put it down. She's Not Sorry, follows an ICU nurse, Meghan, who gets a little too close to patient in a coma.

Mary Kubica hits this one out of the park! From start to finish this is one terrific ride with subplots within plots that kept me guessing what’s coming next until the very last page when everything comes together seemlessly-or does it? If you only read one book this year, make this the one!

Friends, get ready for the adventure of a lifetime with "She's Not Sorry" by the phenomenal Mary Kubika! This thriller will blow your mind with its incredible plot twists and unforgettable characters that will leave you on the edge of your seat begging for more. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, Kubika surprised me with a jaw-dropping twist that took the mystery to a whole new level of excitement. Now I know what you might be thinking after hearing the trigger warnings for domestic violence, suicide, and themes involving children - but let me tell you, the masterful storytelling is well worth any subject matter. I found myself gasping in shock, trying to guess “who done it”, and completely enthralled from start to finish. The suspense had me in a vice grip, refusing to put the book down no matter what. She’s Not Sorry
Mary Kubica
April 02, 2024

She’s a nurse in the ICU working long days with patients that are in poor health. She walks to and from the Chicago hospital with concerns about her daughter’s safe arrival at school each day and hoping that she is home when she arrives later than Sienna . The divorce from Ben months ago cautions her about how dangerous the daily walk each day could be, but dollars that would be spent on transportation are needed elsewhere. Recently someone has been attacking women alone on the street or in their apartments but caution is the only thing she can do for her daily trek. This is Meghan Michael's life. She works, worries and spends her time with her sixteen year old daughter.
She’s Not Sorry will be published by Park Row Books of Harlequin Books S.A. on April 02, 2024. I was able to read Mary Kubica’s most recent novel via NetGalley. I appreciate Park Row allowing me to read this chiller. It tells a suspense-filled story of Meghan’s lonely life. Each chapter takes the tale to more horrifying episodes. It’s one mystery lovers should not miss. Do Enjoy!

I sat down to start this book this morning and didn’t move until I finished it. Such a fun, twisty ride! I did call one of the twists, but still really enjoyed it and there were enough other plot points that that didn’t take away from the excitement at all. Mary Kubica is an auto read author for me!

5 stars for me!!!

I am going to be recommending this one to all my thriller/mystery reader friends. I was hooked from the beginning.

This story follows a newly divorced mom/ICU nurse, Meghan. Working at a place that is understaffed and raising a teenager in a big city doesn't come without stress. There are so many elements to this story it's hard not to spoil it without giving more information.

I love the way Mary wrapped so much of Meghan's life into the story and had it all be purposeful. I never saw the plot twist coming I had to read it again just to make sure I read it right the first time. This is my first read by Mary so I'm excited to read her other books as well.

I was able to read this book early through Net Galley and it was definitely a winner!

Spoilers below:
Through out Part 1 you are expecting the big moment in the book to be Sienna’s kidnapping, which I was anxiously awaiting. Once you find out it was a scam to just get money from Meghan, it starts to make you wonder what the big moment of the book will be.

Then as you are about to start Part 2 and find out Meghan is the one that pushed Caitlin, and eventually that Caitlin is Nat, things just really pick up pace! The second half of the book was absolutely amazing and I knocked it out so quickly because I needed to know what happened!

Definitely recommend this one!

Wowee! Another fabulous read by Mary Kubica! 4.5 stars!

She's Not Sorry centers around Meghan, a 40 year old ICU nurse, and all the strange and suspicious people and happenings in her life. There's the attempted suicide patient and her caring, but peculiar parents and brother who tend to confide some oddly personal information with Meghan. There are the quiet and curious visitors to the ICU who act like they have something to hide. There's an old high school acquaintance and her abusive husband. There's an ex-husband who is difficult to communicate with. There's Meghan's 16 year old daughter, who Meghan loves dearly, who is questioning authority and pushing boundaries. And to top it all off, there is someone on the loose attacking women in the city.

At first, this book was like a puzzle, and I couldn't get the pieces to fit together. Then slowly, things started clicking and there were shocking revelations that hit hard. I felt like I had the rug pulled out from under me several times. She's Not Sorry is fast-paced and tense in many spots and a little more moderately paced in others, but I always felt a sense of lurking danger. There are many factors at play which all contribute to the gripping storyline. Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing/Park Row for the digital ARC.

Meghan is a nurse and divorced mom of a teenage daughter. She knows she shouldn't get overly involved with her patients but when a woman who jumped off a bridge, barely survived and is now in a coma comes into her care, she can't help but want to know why she jumped. But then things take a turn and now it sounds like maybe she was pushed off the bridge. On top of that women have been getting attacked in the neighborhood and an old high school friend is going through hard times and has sought Meghan out for counsel.

4.5 stars.

This was the best book I have read by this author in awhile but it wasn't without issues. Usually her books grab me from the start and the end is where things fall apart. This one, on the other hand, had a slow start and I was really a little bored for most of the first half until things started to pick up. Then I really got interested. I will say that when the big reveal happened, I was confused due to the timeline representation, but at least it was all tied together in an interesting way. I enjoyed it enough to read her next, when I was in danger of giving up on her. Overall a pretty good quick read.

I haven’t read a book by @marykubica that I haven’t LOVED 🥰 .. she quickly turned into an automatic read for me . I love how she always leaves me guessing until the very end while weaving a plot line of angst and thrills … “She’s Not Sorry” did not disappoint (my first 5⭐️ read in a while & the twist was 👌🏻👌🏻) . Be prepared to lose yourself (& a whole day 😬) binging this book - great for a snowy weekend !
Set to publish on 4/2/24 (soon !!)
THANK YOU @netgalley & @hqstories for the opportunity to review prior to publication .

From @goodreads :: “An ICU nurse accidentally uncovers a patient’s frightening past in this chilling thriller.
Meghan Michaels is trying to find balance between being a single mom to a teenage daughter and working as a full time nurse. While on duty at the hospital one day, a patient named Caitlin arrives in a coma with a traumatic brain injury, having jumped from a bridge and plunging over twenty feet to the train tracks below.
But when a witness comes forward with shocking details about the fall, it calls everything they know into question. Was Caitlin pushed and if so, by whom and why?
Meghan has always tried to stay emotionally detached from her patients, but this time, she mistakenly lets herself get too close until she’s deeply entangled in Caitlin’s and her family’s lives. Only when it’s too late, does she realize that she and her daughter could be the next victims.”

This was a fun, quick thriller! I'm not sure the plot will stick with me, but I very much enjoyed it while I was reading it.
*
A synopsis is tough because there's a lot going on - Meghan is an ICU nurse taking care of a woman who jumped (or was pushed?) from a bridge and is now in a coma. She's also reconnected with a friend from high school, and is worried about protecting her friend from her abusive husband. At the same time, women in their neighborhood are getting attacked, and she's worried for herself and her teen daughter.
*
Meghan annoyed me a bit at first, she's so safety-conscious when it comes to the attacker in the neighborhood but seems naive about trusting people she's just met. But this does eventually make sense. There was one twist I predicted early, but another one that was so unexpected, and the type that makes you want to go back and re-read sections.

I'm not quite clear on why the ending happened the way it did, it felt a bit forced, but was exciting. I definitely enjoyed and would recommend this!

4.25 stars. This was SO twisty. I loved the immediate feelings of eeriness. While it takes about 40% of the book to get to the “mystery aspect,” there is a good level of suspense and “not everything is at it seems” right from the jump. I loved the main twist itself and did not see it coming! I did not trust anyone in this book, which I always enjoy. I want to be on my toes during thrillers the entire time, and I was with this book. I think the pacing is perfect, and I think it would be a great audiobook as well for those that like to read that way.

I’ve never read anything by Mary Kubica before, but I do have a few of her books on my to-read list. This one seemed like a good one to start with in checking out Kubica. The book summary introduces the MC, Meghan, and the primary storyline so I’m not going to repeat any of that. What the book summary doesn’t mention is that in the process of checking out the bridge that Caitlin supposedly jumped or was pushed from, Meghan begins to develop some her own opinions of Caitlin’s predicament. There is also a secondary storyline of Meghan running into a former high school friend, Nat, that she hasn’t seen in more than 20yrs. It’s not long before it’s revealed that Nat is being abused by her husband. There is also another storyline of a man attacking and raping women in the area. All of this is revealed early in the story.

Most of the story revolves around Meghan watching over Caitlin and taking care of her daughter and reconnecting with Nat. Meghan is also getting to know Caitlin’s family better as well as helping Nat get back on her feet after leaving her husband, who was tracking her ever since she left him. It’s around this time that strange things start happening to Meghan around the building that she lives in that can’t be explained or at least not in any manner that doesn’t sound really weird or creepy.

The first half was the slow build up to the second half, and thus far, kind of boring – not much happening. It wasn’t until well into the second half of the story that a major element of the story is revealed that kind of pissed me off. I’m not going to go into the details though because that would be a spoiler. The end came pretty quickly after that. Thank goodness.

This was a weird story. I didn’t like any of the characters, including Megan. The pacing for most of the story was kind of slow and boring, the storyline was weird; I figured out who the attacker/rapist was in the first half. However, it was the writing style, the way a story flows, including how the writer wraps up the ending that bothered me the most. I’m sitting here looking at an overall rating of 2.5stars and vacillating on whether or not I should round up or down. I’m obviously an outlier. Enough said.

I want to thank NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and Park Row for sending me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing for an ARC of She's Not Sorry! If you're looking for a bingeable thriller, this is it!

ICU nurse Meghan works long hours at a hospital, and spends her off hours with her teenage daughter. After a recent divorce, things are different but she is finding peace with her new life. Then, Meghan reconnects with a high school acquaintance, Nat, at a divorce support group and realizes that Nat may need help getting out of an abusive relationship. Ever the helper, Meghan worms her way into Nat's life to help her start fresh. However, their relationship turns sour after Meghan learns that perhaps Nat wasn't completely honest with her. Things at work and at home spiral out of control and Meghan feels that she can't trust anyone.

Holy twists! The second part of this book provides so much suspense and crazy reveals, and I love how Mary Kubica revealed each one. I was truly shocked by the first one, and it made me want to go back and reread parts to see how I missed small clues of the impending plot. I raced through the pages wanting to learn what would happen! This book is full of tension, dark characters and shady morals!

She's Not Sorry publishes on April 2, 2024 and you will definitely want to pick it up immediately!

This was a heart pounding, extremely creepy, very well done book. The setting makes this so much better and adds wonderfully to this thriller. Total must read!

3.5 stars rounded up. (Spoilers are down below w/ a warning beforehand)

Right out the gate chapter one left me on the edge of my seat! But then it turned out to be a VERY slow start. I was about 50% in before I actually started getting into it. But don’t let that stop you because part 2 of this book was a PAGE TURNER! I couldn’t put it down.

-part one, like I said… slow.
the author went into unnecessary detail about EVERYTHING. So much so that I would forget what she was initially speaking on until she circled back pages later. It was interesting though, but not enough to say it was thrilling. It started to pick up towards the end of part one. I was finding myself wanting to read it more and more.

-part two, WOAH! What a shift in energy. I had to reread the first page to make sure I was reading it correctly and I was shocked. Definitely didn’t see that one coming. My heart was racing while reading this which doesn’t happen often. I was literally biting my nails with anxiety. This part had a lot of things going on that made me stress out. The ending and conclusion felt a rushed and the epilogue leaves you somewhat on a cliffhanger. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you read it.

Overall, I think it’s worth the read and I’ll definitely read more from this author.

**Thank you to NetGalley & Harlequin Trade Publishing for this book!***

Alright, do you guys think Ben had something to do with it… I think so.
-Also, is anyone else feeling like they wish they got more details when Meghan seen Caitlin in the hospital knowing she put her there?
- I also find it odd that no one put together the connection between Meghan & Caitlin. Maybe because there wasn’t an outside investigation since it was handled internally. Who knows?

A nicely twisty thriller with a sympathetic protagonist in Meghan. A nurse and single mom, she puts herself and her daughter in harms way when she gets too involved with Caitlin, her patient who was originally thought to have made a suicide attempt but who, as it turns out, was actually pushed. Then there's her old friend Natalie. Yes it's a tad implausible at times but it's a fast paced and entertaining read. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC. No spoilers from me.

WOAH! This was one heck of a twisty story! I will say I was suspicious of a few wrong people but also suspicious of the correct one early on too! But the twists and reveals were insanity! This book was definitely unputdownable! Finished it in one day! Also love that it was in Chicago and they mention Italian beefs, I miss Chicago food all the time especially Portillo’s and their delicious sandwiches! I can’t wait to read more by this author I have Local Woman Missing staring daggers at me from my TBR cart, it’s been there for way too long! Definitely recommend this twisty as heck thriller!
