This is the first book I’ve read by Mary Kubica so I was excited to read it. Our main character Meghan Michaels is a newly divorced mom of a teenager, working as an ICU nurse at a Chicago hospital. One of her patients is a survivor of a suicide attempt. While navigating life’s many challenges (teenage daughter, divorce, difficult job) there is also the fact that there is a serial offender out there in Chicago, attacking women like her, and also…an old high school friend has come into Meghan’s life again. Nothing is as it seems.

Told in first person present tense (not my favorite narrative style), it started out with a bang but turned out to be a very, very slow burn of a suspense novel. I started to wonder if this perhaps was just a book about a nurse’s life, because there was almost no suspense in the first half. The extremely slow pace only picked up well after the midpoint but unfortunately, it was not enough to save this book. It is hard to review without spoilers. I will just have to say that Kubica resorts to literary devices commonly overused in modern books of suspense and there was nothing to make this one stand out in the sea of similar books.

Well she does it again! I’m always amazed and shocked at Mary’s brilliant writing and twists and turns. She is a master of suspense for sure! I loved this mother daughter twisty thriller/mystery! 5 stars!

I am now an autobuy reader for Mary Kubica. I couldn’t put this down the twist caught me off guard. A one day thriller ride !

This was a twisty ride, and I loved every second of it!
This wild ride starts off with a call to Megan by an unknown man saying he has her daughter.
Then the book flashes back.
Megan is a divorced mother of one and works as an ICU nurse. She attends a divorce support group and, during one meeting, runs into a familiar face, Nat. She can’t help but notice Nate’s hesitant demeanor and the bruise on her hairline. She quickly realizes Nat is going through some things and offers to help her. Megan is also struggling at work when a woman who attempted suicide in the same manner as Megan’s sister becomes her patient.

In true Mary Kubica fashion, she makes everything come together perfectly with a bow in the end. I’m kicking myself for leaving this ARC on the shelf for so long. It was a perfect thriller. I LOVED the foreshadowing at the beginning of the book and how it was just brushed off later. Amazing!

Caitlin Beckett rolls into the hospital, and the gossip spreads like wildfire—apparently, she took a leap off a pedestrian bridge, aiming for the suicide route. But wait, once her folks show up, they start sketching a completely different portrait of Caitlin. The plot thickens, my friend. Turns out, Caitlin might not be the daughter her parents thought she was—or maybe she’s exactly who they thought she was.

Now, the cops dive into the whole attempted suicide thing. Lo and behold, a witness steps up, claiming they saw someone else on the bridge. Plot twist: Caitlin might not have taken the plunge; she might’ve been pushed. The Becketts, Caitlin’s folks, take a shining to Meghan and start spilling their guts, hoping Meghan can alter the grim destiny looming over their daughter. But, hold up, some bizarre encounters with Caitlin’s brother and father make you realize there’s some funky business afoot.

Somewhere in the mix of pages, this story had potential. Yet, as it dragged on, I lost interest. Honestly, it felt like there was just too much happening. Why’s Caitlin tangled up in Meghan’s life? What’s with the focus on some guy assaulting women in the hood? And why are we so invested in the Becketts? In the end, the story fell flat, just like it did at the close of Part One.

Crossing my fingers this is just the kickoff to a series, and another book will spill the tea on what the heck just went down. If this is the whole enchilada, count me disappointed.

2.5/5. This book starts to finally pick up about 65% of the way through. There are a few early clues that make you wonder who is really who and if they are who they say they are. I found the timeline a little confusing at first, and was quite perplexed by the end. There were a lot of hints/clues that were planted earlier in the book that were completely ignored at never mentioned again. However, while reading I did want to know what would happen to Meghan, her daughter and Caitlin, but when all was revealed, I was quite disappointed. An interesting book, but one that I would probably skip.

Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC in exchange fo my honest review!

A nurse in the ICU cares for a critically ill patient who may be a victim of attempted murder or suicide. As the story unfolds the main character is surrounded by sketchy people who all seem out to get her. I had to suspend disbelief in many instances and the plot felt forced at times

She’s Not Sorry hooked me from the very beginning! This was fast-paced novel that I quickly flew through. There are a few story lines going on throughout the novel. One of the mystery story lines was happening right under my nose that resulted with a twist I honestly did not see coming. All the characters are great and well developed. I never knew quite who to trust, which always makes for a great read. This was a great read and another reason I will always pick up a Mary Kubica novel!

Thank you to NetGalley and Park Row for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

The twists and turns in this book…I read it in less than a day. It’s typical Kubica. You’ll think you know where the plot is going and then she’ll deliver a plot twist. The main character is a flawed, likable single mom. Everyone else is questionable. It’s a quick, thrilling read. If you love thrillers that keep you guessing, She’s Not Sorry is a must-read.

Traumatic, tremble, and turmoil.

Oh. My. Gosh.
This is a fast paced story, that keeps you at the edge of your seat from page 1. Mary Kubica has given us another chilling story, following an ICU nurse. Taking care of a patient that starts to consume more of her life than hoped, the town of Chicago is also experiencing violent attacks on women in the evenings. There is a lot going on in this nurses life, and you can feel the weight of her chaos with each page.
JUST when you think you have it figured out…I will be reeling from this story for a long time.

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and Mary Kubica for this incredible ARC, for my honest review!

Mary Kubica's latest release, "She’s Not Sorry," has undoubtedly claimed the title of the best book I've read in 2023. Eagerly anticipating its official release on April 2, 2024, I'm already looking forward to recommending it to everyone I know. Among all of Mary Kubica's works, this one stands out as my favorite.
The novel captivates the reader right from the start and maintains suspense throughout, offering a plethora of twists and turns that keep you guessing. With multiple plot lines initially appearing unrelated, the narrative ingeniously weaves them together, leaving readers astounded. If you enjoy books featuring intricate plots, unreliable narrators, medical settings, and mind-bending twists, "She’s Not Sorry" is a must-read.

Mary’s books always are a slow burn for me but they pull you in to where you have to keep turning the pages to peel back the layers of mystery within. This one did not disappoint and fans of hers will want to add this to their list.

This book definitely started off a little slow. I kept my interest but nothing super exciting happened for the first half of the book, BUT the way Mary ties the whole story together in an explosive plot twist was beautiful! There was no way to see it coming either. I read the last half of the book in one sitting because once the plot twist was revealed, I absolutely had to know how it ended.
I will always be a Mary Kubica fan since reading Local Woman Missing and this one lives up to my expectations!

I have read all of Mary Kubica’s thrillers and enjoyed exactly every other one. Knowing this, it had to be time for a winner since her last book was a 2.5 star read.

And…it did not disappoint! She’s Not Sorry gripped me from the first page and I could not put it down.

As a single mother, Meghan Michaels is working full-time as an ICU nurse while trying to raise a teenage daughter. When a woman arrives in the ICU after jumping off a bridge in a coma with a traumatic brain injury, Meghan is assigned to her care. Soon, she finds herself getting too close to the patient and her family. Then, a witness reports that she saw someone push her. Meghan begins to fear that she and her daughter are now in danger. Could they be the next?

I am always a sucker for plots about coma patients and have read many of them. This one took many clever twists and turns, but I did correctly guess how they would ultimately turn out. Even with my expert sleuthing skills, this book reads like a thriller and kept my interest the entire way through. It is also obvious that Kubica either knows a lot about nursing, or she did her research.

I predict that readers will really enjoy this fast-paced thriller!

3.75/5 stars rounded up

Expected publication date: 4/2/24

Thank you to NetGalley and Park Row publishing for the ARC of She’s Not Sorry in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoy Mary Kubica’s writing and was so excited to read her latest book. Meghan was such a relatable main character and the suspense levels were so good! I devoured this one!

Meghan is recently divorced mother to a 16 year old daughter and an ICU nurse. Her job becomes very stressful when a suicide survivor, Caitlin, becomes her patient. Meghan’s sister died from suicide so she finds herself invested in this patient, quickly becoming close with the family who requests her daily. We soon learn that Caitlin may have been pushed.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning and on the edge of my seat. It had so many twists and turns that fit together perfectly. Most of which I did not guess. Another great book by Mary Kubica!

Thank you to NetGalley and HTP for the ARC! I highly recommend picking this one up!

I read a pre-publication copy of this book. This author is a very skilled writer. The plot is complex but presented so well that it does not become confusing. I find that her use of very precise and expressive vocabulary (especially verbs) is a large part of what makes her writing so enjoyable. The characters in this novel are very well developed and sympathetic; and the pace of the action is appropriate and keeps the readers' interest. I will look for more books by this author.

Meghan is recently divorced, has a teenage daughter, and works as an ICU nurse. When she gets assigned to a patient in a coma due to a brain injury from jumping off a bridge, it roots up a lot from her past. Things are never as they seem though. When an investigation takes the lead about a possible attempted murder, that's when everything changes. Meghan becomes involved and intertwined which leads her down a path she was never expecting.

I loved Local Women Missing by Mary Kubica, so I was excited to dive into this advance copy. Mary Kubica did not disappoint. It was a fun thriller read with many jolting twists and turns. Some, I feel you may have seen coming but, then others left you shocked. This book absolutely hits the "you never know who you can trust!"

I give this book four stars and would recommend it if you are looking for a high energy, fast-paced thriller.

Thank you, NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the ARC!

I'm so happy that I was able to get an ARC of this book! I have read every single Mary Kubica book and this one is reminiscent of her older book (which I love the most).

Kubica is so good at red herrings and weaving multiple stories into one so the reader is thrown off the scent. I always fall for the red herring but my goal is to finally figure out the storyline before the end!

The only thing I recommend while reading this book is to not start reading it before bed, there were definitely moments that freaked me out as a woman living in a big city.
