Hard Exit by J.B. Turner starts with an intriguing prologue that gets this political thriller revved-up and in high gear. A Swiss intelligence agent goes missing and takes classified documents with him that have the potential to expose covert agents and information. It includes information on American, British, and other agents including one that is supposed to be dead. Since the “who” is a spoiler for the earlier books in the series, I recommend not reading the book synopsis and going into this novel cold.
Jon Reznick is former military and a former covert operative who still does occasional work for one of the American alphabet agencies. He’s an excellent shot, highly intelligent, fearless, and tough. However, he also has a temper and can experience mood swings.
This story has great pacing, a twisty and absorbing plot, and plenty of exciting scenes. My main quibble is that I didn’t quite feel like I was in Switzerland. I needed a little more world-building for that. Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed the novel. It is well-plotted with some unpredictable moments and plenty of conflict. Themes include murder, mystery, family, friendship, trust, duplicity, espionage, and much more.
Overall, this high-octane thriller was entertaining, thought-provoking, and a powerful page-turner from start to finish. This is the eleventh book in the Jon Reznick thriller series and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Thomas & Mercer and J. B. Turner provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date is currently set for December 14, 2023.
In Jon Reznick, JB Turner has a man for the ages; hard but with soft spots for friends and family.
A man you don’t want to cross for anything important but who won’t sweat the small stuff. A man that believes in given people a second chance but will physically show that no-one gets a third chance.
Well planned books, fast paced action and sensible, believable plots.
You see the author, you know that you won’t go wrong.
This is an exciting secret service thriller,. John Reznick, a mercenary for hire, finds out that an unidentified woman in Switzerland could be his wife, who died in the Twin Towers on 09/11. Hans Muller, a Swiss intelligence agent has stolen huge amounts of sensitive data, and put the woman at risk. John Reznick goes to Switzerland to find out who the woman really is. There is lots of involvement with different governments and agencies, making a fast=paced, and gripping story. Reznick is very lucky to have a hacker colleague assisting him wherever he goes.
Very entertaining.
J. B. Turner always writes a captivating book, but Hard Exit may be my favorite yet. The plot starts off strong and never stops. Lots of action, a bit of mystery, and some "ghosts" from the past. A nice twist in the middle. Could not stop reading until I saw how it ended. A must read!
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review..

Loved this and read it in day, I've read all the books in the series but this was the best I've read! From the start I was gripped especially with the very unexpected discovery!
Hard Exit is a bit strange in that a woman who died in the 9-11 attacks turns out to be alive. That she left her husband and daughter without a word, even over 20 years, is hard to take. But author JB Turner does a good job in creating an interesting story. A Swiss intel expert has stolen much of the West's secrets, and somehow he is betrayed by the Russians despite the wealth of information. Come to think of it, this is an odd story.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC
JB Turner has done it again. This was a compelling novel that had me reading late into the night. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for a review.
Good
This was an interesting story of Jon, a government assassin who lost his lawyer wife in the 911 attacks. But then a friend mentions that the wife had left her law job and was working for the CIA in a different tower on 911, so she woudl have had plenty of time to escape. And a recognition camera showed her recently in Switzerland. Jon promptly went to Switzerland to track her down.
The story is good and the characters were interesting. But there were a few plot points that I didn't follow. How/why would the Swiss know immediately that he was in their country for the purpose of looking for his wife? And why did the Russians want to kill her? Unless I missed something, the reason was to prove that a defector was not a double agent, but that was a whole lot of work for that purpose, Also, if the American's didn't want her to return, wouldn't the Russians do what they can so she did and she could cause the fuss that the Americans were afraid of?
This was the latest of a long series of books with this character, but the first I had read. I am adding a few more of the series to my virtual reading pile.
I absolutely loved this book! Fast paced, unexpected, and clever, with great characters solving a believable case. What's even better is that there are another TEN books with Jon Reznick already published AND they are available on Kindle Unlimited!
A Swiss intelligence agent downloads thousands of classified documents including information that could expose secret agents and other key information that the global intelligence community are keen to keep under wraps.
With not much to go on, favours are called in and finally a dying friend and a blip in a computer programme - a face that cannot be matched to any living being - gives Jon the break he needs, but it also drags his past into the light.
Suddenly, it's become personal.
Great book! Action packed! Just like a movie! Wow! This book had a bit of everything! It had high suspense, intrigue, action packed, murder, mystery, mayhem, high speed chase, double agents, Russian spies, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
It's good to read a book where the author has good knowledge of Europe with its geography and politics, and where the story has excellent pace and the characters are good. The plot, however, isn't that good, and a little over the top and not always coherent. Still, this is an entertaining book.
His books are ones that never disappoint, full of intrigue. and twisted plots.
In this story one can only imagine what Reznick must be feeling, questioning,
it was his wife. The information was to be true, of a dying man, but it wasn't
to him. Muller had unrestricted access patiently awaiting to this day to disappear.
Taking information with him that would expose covert operations around the world.
Reznick had no choice, to help the agencies and get answers.
A story that shows the emotions of Reznick in a series I alway's enjoy.
Given arc by Net Galley and Thomas.Mercer for my voluntary review
This book is a bit different than what we've seen in the previous books of this series. It becomes pretty complicated fairly fast. A friend of Jon's is dying. A fellow Delta operator and he requests Jon to visit him before he dies. What happens during this visit have Jon questioning if his friend is too medicated to know what he's saying or could he have it all wrong? Follow this book as Jon is determined to find out if is friend knows something he doesn't or is it just the end talking.
Follow Jon through what might be the biggest mystery yet
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Overall really clever, well written and one I will be recommending. I am now going to purchase the rest of the authors books that I haven’t read yet. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this early copy.
"Hard Exit: 11" by J. B. Turner is the latest pulse-pounding thriller in the Jon Reznick series, and it absolutely delivers on the suspense and unexpected twists that fans have come to expect. From start to finish, this book had me on the edge of my seat, and the tension only escalated as the story unfolded.
What struck me most about this installment is the emotional depth it adds to the series. The central mystery of a missing Swiss intelligence agent with the power to expose covert operations worldwide is gripping, but it's the personal stakes that truly make this book shine. The revelation that the mysterious woman caught on Swiss CCTV footage bears an uncanny resemblance to Jon Reznick's presumed-dead wife, who was tragically lost in the 9/11 attacks, adds a layer of complexity that keeps you guessing until the very end.
As a reader, you can't help but empathize with Reznick's quest for answers. Twenty years is an eternity to live with the belief that a loved one is gone, only to discover it might have all been a lie. The emotional rollercoaster Reznick goes through is palpable, and it tugs at your heartstrings.
The seamless integration of Reznick's personal journey with the high-stakes international espionage plot is a testament to J. B. Turner's storytelling prowess. The collaboration between Swiss Intelligence agents and the CIA adds another layer of intrigue and complexity to the narrative.
In the end, "Hard Exit: 11" is a masterfully crafted thriller that not only keeps you at the edge of your seat but also tugs at your emotions. It's a testament to the enduring quality of the Jon Reznick series, and I can't recommend it enough for fans of thrilling, suspenseful reads. This book truly left me with a sense of satisfaction, and I can't wait to see where Jon Reznick's journey takes us next.
A welcome addition to the Reznick series brings back our hero/protagonist working internationally with some new bad guys and a well-constructed plot line which will surely keep the pages turning.
A great thriller, so page turning that I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. I would expect nothing less from this author because all his books are brilliant. Highly recommended.
