This was a super cute romcom. I loved the connection between Emmy and Grayson. This is a spicy, enemies to lovers, celebrity romcom...which I loved. I'm just not a huge fan of the miscommunication trope. Overall, I still really enjoyed the book!

Thoughts

The newest Falon Ballard, publishes 2/27, is about oscar-winning screen writer, Emmy Harper. Emmy has written a new movie, a romantic comedy, and is set for more success. However, she did not plan on being cast as the leading lady and suddenly her leading male actor cannot perform, so the very man she never expected to see again, Grayson West, is cast. As the filming begins, the two do not appear to have great chemistry, until they make an arrangement to manage the awkwardness. Once they do, the spark ignites and the two seem to be doing more than just acting.

Lease on Love, the author's debut novel, is one of my favorite romantic comedies that I have read in the last few years, so I was so excited to receive an early release of her newest rom-com. Right on Cue is much more romantically focused and contains much more spice and open-door scenes, which is not as much my vibe. I enjoyed the self-discovery and progression of the character's connections with one another and also loved the movie-making/actors dating situation. I read this one on kindle and via audio and enjoyed going between both formats.

Overall, I liked this book and think those that love spice would really enjoy this. If you need a good rom-com in your life, be sure to look for this in February. Thank you to #NetGalley and @prhaudio for my advance copies in exchange for an honest review.

This was a super cute little romance with pretty well developed characters and a plot that didn’t completely revolve around how many abs the man had (but don’t worry, they’re there). I liked it, mostly. I felt the parts where they were on set weren’t too inaccurate and I loved the little town it took place in. The beginning was the best part. The enemies were giving enemies and tension. It was wonderful. The middle was also okay, it developed as most romances do so it was a bit predictable but not necessarily in a bad way. My biggest complaint with this was the pacing. Basically nothing except cute romance happened for 200 pages (which was fine) but then in the last 30 pages (of which at least 5 were an adult scene (yk what I mean) three different major things happened and none of them were given proper time. They could’ve been so much better had they been given more time because they felt rushed which ruined the ending of a pretty good (maybe a bit average) romance novel.

Enemies to Lovers? Rom-Com Movie Set? Absolutely, yes. Plus, the opening scene was so cute and hooked me from the start! The main characters were hot and cold for a bit, but overall, I really enjoyed this book!

Emmy Harper, the queen of Hollywood rom-coms, is stepping in front of the camera after a long hiatus (10 years?!). When she arrives on set, she is shocked to find her arch-nemesis and the person she holds responsible for ruining her acting career at the beginning: Enter Grayson West, the handsome blockbuster action movie star. Filming starts off horribly, so Emmy and Grayson work together to overcome their awkwardness and save the movie. Can they transcend their history and create movie magic without falling for each other?

Thanks to NetGalley, Penguin Group Putnam, and Falon Ballard for allowing me access to this book. All opinions are my own.

Right on Cue isn’t reinventing the trope by any means but was a quick and lovely binge nonetheless. It’s a perfect balance of steamy and emotional, a good focus on career without being over the top. I also love when you see the characters get together early enough in the book to really root for them, and Falon Ballard delivered. Definitely my favorite of her books so far, highly recommend if you need a little escape from reality these days!

Frienemies to lovers Emmy and Grayson hit all the right glorious spots on their way to filming a rom-com written by Emmy that has us wondering if life will imitate art. As the two try to overcome their last acting performance together new sparks fly as the undeniable heat between them soar. The vividly written setting of Pine Springs and its B&B envelope us into a story of forgiveness, love, loss and romantic love. Right on Cue is the perfect feel good rom-com you’ve been waiting for!

Thanks so much to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a cute little rom-com that was reminiscent of a lot of fun 2000's movie. It was about Emmy, a Hollywood legacy who has been writing rom-com scripts since her last attempt at acting went wrong, and Grayson, a blockbuster action star who's trying to take his acting career in a new direction.

Emmy writes a new movie script that she'll be the leading lady for, and Grayson steps up when her leading man has an accident, unbeknownst to Emmy. The two have a past that caused her to quit acting in the first place, and watching them overcome their issues with each other was super sweet.

Honestly the touch of miscommunication that led to a decades-long feud was a little much for me, but they were teenagers when it happened so I was pretty much able to get over it.

It was a cute love story and it gave me all the happy feelings that I was looking for when I read it. Definitely would read more from this author!

This was delightful rom-com read!

I always feel a bit on the fence going into a celebrity romance, but this worked for me so well. I adored both Emmy and Greyson, and I thought their banter and chemistry was perfect and utterly believable. I especially enjoyed Emmy and Greyson working through their respective difficulties outside of the relationship, Emmy with her grief and Greyson with his self-image. The side characters were hilarious and charming and it made me want more from this little fictional world.

There were definitely some things that lost me come the last quarter, though. I’m not typically one for a third act break up unless it makes a LOT of sense, and this one felt quite out of character and forced for both of our MCs. Regardless, this probably could have been redeemed with a good reunion, but I felt like that aspect was very lackluster in comparison to how perfect their original get-together and relationship was.

Ultimately I’m giving this about 3.75 stars, purely due to the ending not working for me. I’ll definitely continue to pick up this author and am excited to see what she does next!

*****UNPOPULAR OPINION****

I have read other books by Falon Ballard before and flew to request this when I saw she had a new ARC. This was cute but it was a miss for me. A rom-com should be swoon-worthy and I did not feel Grayson or Emmy had much depth to how they were written. Underwhelmed with the characterization.

At times I thought the plot was going to evolve but I felt this was a story that has been told and repeated. An actor meets a less experienced actor or a crazy fan meets a rockstar in disguise and BAM... spraks fly. Predictable, unoriginal plot.

This was just ok. Not for me and cannot recommend this. I hope her next book is better.

Loved this book. Enemies-to-Lovers is my favorite trope and the banter between Emmy and Grayson was so entertaining. The banter and chemistry between the MCs were my favorite part. I always hate a third-act break up and miscommunication between the MCs so that made me take a point away but overall it was a great read.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

I have yet to read something by Falon Ballard that I don’t love! Her books are the perfect romances that you get you all in your feels, but are easy to devour in less than 24 hours. I started this book and just couldn't put it down. I was driven a little crazy by the miscommunication at times, but overall I loved it!

I really enjoyed this enemies to lovers second chance romance. I felt that the characters were well fleshed out and loveable. I also really loved the mixed media included. The tweets, articles, and interviews were a fun way to help tell the story.

The character development was well thought out and Grayson’s characterization once he opened up was really wonderful. I always find that miscommunications and third act breakups feel very real and raw to me because I find that the world very much does work that way as much as we wish it didn’t.

I found this book to be very enjoyable and a good light-hearted romance

This book was STEAMY. And wasn’t a slow burn at all! I wish I’d gotten more of the side characters sometimes but overall I LOVED this. I couldn’t put this book down.

I love the whole “forced to be together because you’re filming intimate scenes” so good
Perfect if you love enemies to lovers, enemies with benefits, forced proximity, and work place romance. Def not for you if you HATE miscommunication.

Can’t wait to read more from this author

“Right on Cue” is a romantic comedy about Emmy, a screenwriter turned actress in her own movie, who unexpectedly has to costar with long time arch nemesis Grayson. The two have to set aside their past in order for the film to be successful, but putting aside old feeling and battling new ones proves much harder than expected.
<br/>
The story has an enjoyable theme; think “behind the scenes of a hallmark movie”. There are some warm and fuzzies, some laughs, some spice, and a lot of sizzling sexual tension. The awkward moments while filming provide good comedic relief and there are definitely swoon worthy moments between characters that gave me butterflies. While the interactions between the FMC and the MMC are sometimes frustrating due to unresolved issues from long ago, I did have a soft spot for Grayson’s insecurities and vulnerabilities and found that refreshing for the rom-com genre.

The third act breakup doesn’t work for me, it’s one of my pet peeves in a romance story and frustrates me to no end, but I really enjoyed the chemistry between the characters and still rooted for their eventual happy ending. I loved watching the relationship unfold between Emmy and Grayson, and Grayson’s positive character development throughout the story tugged at my heartstrings, so that made up for the third act debacle for me.

I enjoyed reading a book centred around the making of a rom com movie. I am a fan of the author’s previous two books Lease on Love and Just My Type and really like her writing style. It engages you quickly and gets you interested in where the story is going to go. I liked Emmy and Grayson, though he took longer for me to warm to. I think we would have benefited from having a couple of pov chapters from him as it would have gone a long way in explaining some of his attitude and behaviour at the start. Once things progressed though, I was very much on board with our leading man. Good overall chemistry between our two leads (sweet and hot) and a good cast of supporting characters. The miscommunication at the end was annoying 😡and I would have like a little more from Emmy on this. Overall really liked it. 4 ⭐️

This was a fun, lighthearted, sweet & spicy, romance read! The majority of the book felt like a cozy Hallmark movie. It was my first book by Falon Ballard & I'll definitely be looking into her previous books. I loved the Hollywood theme and liked getting to read about various parts of celebrity life (filming/red carpet/etc.). I thought the writing was really good & flowed well - and the chatter between characters was funny and engaging. Emmy's "jump to conclusions" at the end was a little hard for me to believe & in general I felt like a lot of the angst and lack of communication from both main characters was a tiny bit immature, but all in all it was still a really good, happy book.

I absolutely loved Falon Ballard’s first book, so each book after has been compared to that. I definitely enjoyed this more than her 2nd book. I really liked how the tension built between the two main characters, but I always find myself annoyed with communication issues in books. The main character did annoy me at times but I think it was mostly driven by me not liking characters that don’t communicate. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend to a friend!

Actress turned screenwriter, Emmy Harper has found success and is ready to begin filming her new project, a rom com. Unable to find an actress that is perfect for the part Emmy finds herself reluctantly starring in the movie. The chemistry she had with the actor playing her love interest during auditions was great but when an accident forces him to drop out of the project. Grayson West, an extremely popular action star agrees to take the leading role last minute. As luck would have it Grayson is the reason that Emmy gave up acting in the first place. Are they able to fake chemistry even if they loathe each other? The films success hinges on Emmy and Grayson being able to put their past feeling aside.

This was absolutely delightful!! I loved the characters, the chemistry between Emmy and Gray was written so well. There are so many Contemporary romances out there that when you uncover a gem like this one it is refreshing.

I'm a fan of Falon Ballard's writing and I think this book may be my new favorite of hers. It was such a fun read and between the witty banter and Ballard's writing style, it's so easy to get lost within the story.

'Right on Cue' follows Emmy Harper, an LA native born to a Hollywood power couple, who has cultivated a career of writing Rom-Com movies. After suffering a loss and winning an Oscar for a darker movie, Emmy is ready to return to HEAs. In an effort to save her current film, she is convinced to accept the starring role - even though she hasn't acted in over a decade. Unfortunately, due to a last minute injury, her co-star is recast and she comes face-to-face with Grayson West - the person she blames for why she gave up acting. Emmy and Grayson cannot get along, even when they need to film a simple scene. For the sake of the movie, they need to figure out how to work together.

You could feel Emmy's disdain for Grayson and sympathize with her but you couldn't help but like Grayson and root for them.
Both characters have their own insecurities that they need to work through (and I wish we had gotten to see more of that).

Compared to the rest of the story, the third act pacing is a little bit off and the timing of the end of production to the movie premiere also seems a little unrealistic. Neither of these took away from the story for me because I went into it knowing that it was going to be a feel-good and light-hearted story filled with so many of my favorite romance tropes. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

The book hooked me right from the beginning. I do like how gossip and news articles are included throughout to show outside opinions of the main characters and it was fun to start the book that way. Emmy did come across as a bit annoying and overly dramatic to me, like everyone was always against her. Something to note - this is a spicy (just the right amount in my opinion) enemies-to-lovers book. Overall, a fun read.
