Let me first say that I want to rate this book higher so badly, both because I adore Falon Ballard and because I genuinely had fun reading this. Unfortunately I think this falls more into the “good time” category than actual “good book” - as much as it pains me to say it’s not both.
It’s very cute and I flew through it, but it was just missing something and not as well written as I found Ballard’s first two books. Emmy as a character was such a mystery to me; aside from her being a nepo baby and her past with Grayson, we never really get to know many other characteristics of hers. Not to mention there was so much talk about what an amazing writer she is (she’s an Oscar winner!), but every single thing described about the movie they were filming made it sound like a Hallmark movie.
But when it comes down to it, I think I could have let those things slide if it weren’t for the third act breakup. Granted, I’m no fan of a third act breakup in general, but this one jumped the shark for me a bit, made Emmy seem extremely unlikable, and marked TWO cases of massive miscommunication in the book.
At the end of the day, though, I’d still call this book good junk food. Not great overall, but I won’t pretend like I didn’t eat it up and fun doing so. I’ll still be first in line for Falon Ballard’s next book!

3.5/5
why do more people not write costar romances ????
awhile ago i picked up lease on love by this author and that was a pretty good book, the writing style was enjoyable, so when i read the synopsis for this book and saw the author i requested it. a costar romance between two people who "hate" each other and its set in a cute, small, wintery town!! sign me up! this book was really adorable. the setting was everything, the side characters were so entertaining, the only thing that really bothered me in this book was the main characters which sadly effected my overall enjoyment of the book.
grayson was fine, he was chill and simple and fine. i've read men like him before and i probably will again. now emmy was um... incredibly immature. this is shown time and time again throughout the book. the romance was so cute and going so well and when we got to the third act breakup i wanted to scream because it was so annoying. if i was grayson i don't know if i'd forgive her for being such an ass. oh you love me soooo much but you just stop talking to me for upwards of a month because you think you heard something???? yeah no.
so yes this was cute and a quick easy read, honestly if you can get past the dumb third act breakup plot line you should definitely pick this up when it's released in february. but if you know third act conflicts that have no point irritate you, this book might be a skip.
*Thank you NetGalley for the ARC*

Loved the romance in this one, but the 3rd act breakup because of miscommunication was not my favorite. If that had gone a little differently, this could have been 5/5.
ARC kindly provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the author & publisher for the e-arc! This was a fun, delightful rom-com. I really enjoy celebrity romances and loved the whole “filming a movie together” plot. The one thing that really dampened the mood for this though, was the third act. The classic miscommunication trope, which is not one of my personal favorites, makes an appearance. Overall, I did enjoy the story, the characters, and the writing style.

You know that book that you can't wait to start but it sits on your TBR for AGES because you don't want it to be over? That was me with Right on Cue. I positively loved lease on love and adored just my type so *could not* wait to dive into Falon Ballard's latest but put it off for a rainy day to savor it just a bit more 🥰
This was such a sweet childhood friends/actors to estranged enemies to lovers work place romance. Emmy and Grayson clearly had some unresolved feelings to address after not seeing each other for 15ish years when they both show up on location for her new movie (she's a screenwriter, Nora Ephron esque) that surprise, they're both staring in. As the romantic leads. The first bit of filming is a train wreck of animosity, before the director tells them to get their ish together. When Emmy suggests they just get the tension out of their systems....things start to heat up 🌶🌶🌶 and we get to see the sweet and intentional side of their relationship. The miscommunication trope is a bit too strong and distracts from the plot a bit. I also would have loved to see some of the story from Grayson's POV. That aside I loved this book the epilogue was positively perfect and this one has definitely been pre-ordered 🥰
Thank you Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for the ARC in exchange for my review!

This is my first time reading a book by Falon Ballard and it won't be the last. As a matter of fact, I have already picked up her other previous novels.
Before I get to the stuff I loved, I do have a few issues that I'd like to get out of the way.
This book was screaming for a flashback scene between our MC's. I would have loved to have seen that build up of tension between these two as young actors finding their way into first love. I think it would have lent more credibility to Emma's angst and anger.
Second, why so much miscommunication between the MC's? It happens quite a lot and it doesn't give us the sense that they actually "know" each other when we can't see them sharing with each other.
Which leads to one of my other issues; Grayson's reactions to each scene he's in with Emma where he is angry... doesn't seem like the reaction you would expect from someone that feels "rejected'. Wouldn't he want to have a conversation with her about how she responded to him.... maybe he would ask to NOT be on the set but the anger response was not something I would expect while he's trying to be a professional.
This book would have been great with a dual POV.
I did like this book and the chemistry between the main characters once it headed in that direction and then the plot literally says.... things are going too well and this would be the time for a third act breakup..... which literally happens. Felt...... strange to me that the author has the character think something has to go wrong there because literally things are going too right.
I enjoyed the side characters such as LIz, her mom and Sam. They supported our characters with real talk. I liked the spicy scenes that felt like a woman wrote how a woman likes to be "seen" in the bedroom. I wished we would have had more of a written visual of what Emma looked like because there was one time it said Auburn hair and then somebody came on set and she was a sexy red head. Auburn always meant brownish red in my book. I digress... the only physical feature that I remember that they mentioned.
My final assessment is 3.5 stars.

Emmy + Grayson 🫶 After a tough first role on screen, Emmy sticks to screenwriting and prefers to be behind the camera. But when her latest rom-com proves tough to cast the leading lady, she ends up front and center. As fate would have it, she’s starring opposite of her nemesis from that very first role all those years ago - Grayson. Meanwhile Grayson is hoping this more serious role will set him apart from his typical action genre. Back on the same set again as costars, there is a lot of unresolved history and also sexual tension. 🔥 Absolutely loved this sweet story! Small town charm with big time stars, celebrity romance, enemies with benefits, enemies to lovers, second chance, forced proximity, film set, and costars catch real feelings. 🎥 4.5 stars (always hate the miscommunication issue).

I love love love Falon Ballard ! They just know how to do the right amount of spice and the right amount of fluff. The plot and the banter had me hooked the whole time. Another hit !

I enjoyed this book from the first to last page. It is everything you want in a rom com! The characters are great and likable. If you like a hollywood romance this is the book for you. The writing was great and the plot was fun. An easy feel good read!

My review is closer to a 3.9 for this book. Thank you to NetGalley and Putnam Books for allowing me to read this book for a review.
This book is a classic enemies to lovers with a bit of spice in between. When the main character Emmy the writer of the soon-to-be-filmed romance movie finds herself now as the main actress and working with Grayson West her past co-star who ruined her career and reputation she has to decide if she can work with him to make this movie a hit. During this, they discover they actually have a lot in common, and things on set get heated after they are forced to film a sex scene for the movie. However, there is a twist that could set the relationship back when things are moving forward.
I thought that this was a classic romcom enemies-to-lovers troupe. It was really comforting and easy to read. I think the ending could have had a little more drama if you ask me with all the build-up and Emmy's character development during the filming process. They make her seem like her feelings are invalid when I would have been the same way after the conversation she had overhead, it just felt a little rushed and that she was all to blame in that situation.
For those wondering about the spice in this book, there is some spice. I would rate it as a 2.5/5 spice. One spicy scene is heavily described but after that, they are more passively described
Again, thanks netgalley and putnam books!

Right on Cue is the perfect Rom Com! This book has all my favorite elements: witty banter, enemies to lovers, small town vibes, funny supporting characters, a swoon-worthy leading man, true connections and heartwarming moments with a nice dose of spice. I loved Falon Ballard’s two previous Rom Coms, Just My Type and Lease on Love and this makes a Hat Trick of just very well written romance books. Please write more. I do want to thank #Putnambooks and #Netgalley for the ARC, but the honest opinions are all my own and I would be a Falon Ballard fangirl even without the ARC.

This book was an easy read by an author I hadn't read before. I devoured it in a matter of days. It was sweet with a touch of spice but I'm a sucker for these tropes and really enjoyed it start to finish. I felt it was well paced and a fun, light read. Would definitely recommend!

I have read every Falon Ballard book and didn’t think I could love one more, but then I read Right on Cue, and can say this is my favorite one! A fun read that I couldn’t put down. Thanks NetGalley for the early read!

A cheesy romcom book for everyone to devour in a short period of time.
I ate the first 50% of the book. I enjoyed the filming aspect of the story and how the actors and behind the scenes people work. It was very interesting to read. I believe the sexual relationship of the characters happened a bit too quick for my taste that during the 60-70% mark it started to get dull. Nevertheless, it was an average yet good read for someone in need of quick romcom fix.

Oh I loved this book sooooo much!!!
This was my first Falon Ballard novel, but now I have already gone back and read another (Just My Type, equally fantastic!) because I loved this so much. This novel features Emmy and Grayson, once *almost* teenage lovers now enemies with all the pent up angst you could want. I loved every second of reading about these two characters. It was the perfect amount of slow burn, true relationship building, and then FIREEEE when the time was right! These characters had depth and great backstory, without the story feeling too heavy at any time. I would recommend this to fans on Abby Jimenez and Emily Henry.
I will post my FIVE STAR review on instagram @em.readsalot during the week of publication.

Loved this quick and easy read! Falon Ballard is turning into an author that I have to read all her latest books and Right on Cue is another book I have loved by her!
Full of charm, I was rooting for the main character from the first page and read this book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down! Right on Cue is full of tropes in the best way possible and had a hallmark charm about it! Not to mention, some fun and steamy scenes! You won’t be disappointed when reaching for Right on Cue!

This is the second book I have read from this author and I liked this one much more than Lease on Love. This is the story of a woman who writes a romance film and ends up starring in it opposite the guy who broke her heart as a teenager. I thought the book was alright! Nothing super memorable about this one, but an easy and fun read.

This one kind of reminded me slightly of Annabelle Monaghan's NORA GOES OFF SCRIPT, and I'm not really mad about it. Really it's just because it's another novel where a screenwriter falls in love with the leading man of her movie, but in this one, Emmy is the daughter of Hollywood royalty, and is trapped starring in her own movie. The leading man is an old rival from her sole attempt at acting. The animosity is still there to the point where they agree to one boink to get it out of their systems. Except it doesn't end there.
Cheesy, predictable, and I'm probably only not terribly excited about it because I'm not in the best headspace for romance right now.
Thanks, NetGalley!

This book and all it's tropes, were right up my alley. It was sweet, with a side of spice. I would've loved to have seen more spice! 🌶️ but the dance was good, not overly cheesy! Great read again Fallon!

I found Right on Cue to be a delightful book filled with humor, romance and insight to what actors and actresses go through while making movies. Falon Ballard captures the feelings of the characters in a way that makes the reader empathize with them. If you enjoy reading light romantic novels I would recommend reading this book.
