Falon Ballard does not disappoint! Her latest novel Right on Cue is a witty romcom that hooked me from the very first page. This novel centers around two celebrities that have had a rocky past and as fate would have it they end up starring in a new movie together! To say it’s awkward is an understatement, but you know the saying about there being a thin line between love and hate, and I couldn’t wait to see what side they ended up on!

Right on Cue is the type of romance novel you can’t help but devour! I love the enemies to more trope, and this novel is the perfect example of why! The banter between the main characters was fantastic and their chemistry is off the charts!! Right on Cue is a 5 star novel that I never wanted to end, I could read about these characters for a whole series! If you’re a romcom fan like I am, then I highly recommend this gem!!!

Sweet celebrity rom-com alert!!

📖 The Details:
Right on Cue by Falon Ballard

⏱️ Quick Summary:
Emmy Harper is the daughter of two beloved actors and a screenwriter herself. After no one else can fit the part, Emmy finds herself acting in her latest rom-com opposite Greyson West, her arch nemesis from her very first movie (the one that made her stop acting years ago). Glares are given, insults are thrown, acting is questionable, but...there's also a spark, and maybe a reconciliation.

💁‍♀️ My Take: I liked it. It was a solid 3.5 stars for me - with some very sweet (and spicy) moments. I do love a good enemies to lovers trope, and this one certainly had the reason to start as enemies and end as lovers, but I didn't feel like there was a GREAT explanation for some of the bad moments and miscommunication that made them enemies in the first place. Also the miscommunication toward the end was ehh. I know that bothers some people, but I was able to go with it. Overall, it was a cute and unique story with great banter, interesting side characters, and a good flow - with some serious themes of grief and insecurity.

Would recommend as a nice lil cozy read for any season or mood!

This was a quick, fun read! Emmy grew up as the daughter of two Hollywood stars and made her acting debut at the age of 15 with her co-star Grayson making his as well. Everything was going smoothly until she found out he was saying things about her to the cast. The chemistry fizzled and the movie flopped. Emmy decided to pivot to screenwriting while Grayson went on to become an action star.

Fast forward to present time and Emmy has written a new romcom after winning an Oscar for a more dramatic film. They’re unable to find a good lead actress and she is talked into starring in it herself. Emmy agrees and then the bottom falls out: her leading man gets injured and is replaced with none than Grayson.

Emmy and Grayson had great chemistry that I enjoyed, and the typical miscommunication didn’t bother me like it has in some other books.

Thanks as always to NetGalley for the ARC.

Loved this one! The writing was fresh and fun, the characters were flawed but likable, and the plot was appropriately paced. While this was certainly a story we’ve heard before, I enjoyed this take on the “enemies to lovers” and “dating my co-worker” tropes, set in the world of Hollywood movie-making. Pick this one up!

Thank you to NetGalley and G. P. Putnam’s Sons/Penguin Random House for this free advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Right on Cue by Falcon Ballard.

This is a very sweet, occasionally funny and fairly formulaic RomCom perfect for anyone who loves The Hallmark Chanel. It’s a lost love/enemies to lovers story set in both a picturesque small town and Los Angeles. If I say anymore you will honestly know the entire plot of the book, so I’ll leave it at that. It was a fun read with characters I enjoyed spending time with, so I’m rounding 3 1/2 stars up to 4.

An absolute delight. At first I thought Emmy may have been over-dramatic but then I realized Emmy is all of us. Seeing her work through all of this on page, sometimes indeed being over-dramatic and sometimes not was like a mini therapy session. Both Grayson and Emmy learned how to communicate with one another in their own ways through ups and downs and I loved how relatable it was.

Content Warnings:
- Language
- Graphic Sex

I have mixed feelings about this one. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed this, but there was entirely too much cussing for me, and I could have done without the on page sex. If this had been a clean read, it would have easily been a 4 or 5 star read hands down. The ending chapters fell a little flat for me. I felt it was a little bit more than miscommunication, and it irritated me. Honestly, the breakup was unnecessary. Why can't they just fall in love, and that be that?

Thank you, NetGalley, PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, and G.P. Putnam's Sons for the opportunity to read this advanced copy.

Right on Cue by Falon Ballard fizzed with wit, steam, and connection. You will want to put this one on your TBR on 2/27/24!

Our MC, Emmy Harper is the daughter of a Hollywood power couple, but in the last ten years, she has secured respect as the queen of the romcom screen write--most recently securing an Oscar for her first serious script. As she tears through casting trying to find her next leading lady, none hit the mark. Her best friend/director, Liz, and her mother convince her to act the role herself. It's been so long since her last disastrous attempt--she was only fifteen. And, Emmy really respects the chosen MMC.

Emmy arrives on set and plows into her arch nemesis, Grayson West. The cast MMC is injured and Grayson is tapped to trade in his signature action role for a romcom lead. It an UN-meet cute--in every way.

This premise was fun, and the story was well executed. We have enemies to lovers, second chance romance, and forced proximity tropes here, but Emmy and Grayson's story is layered and respectful as well.

I received an advanced copy in exchange for my review, but my opintions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group for the ARC.

Emmy and Grayson - for a movie they met,
Emmy and Grayson's acting were sent threats
Emmy and Grayson are back on set.

(Idk what that was, forgive me)

Screenwriter Emmy Harper, the only child of Hollywood's sweethearts, is taking on the big screen alongside Hollywood heartthrob, and former co-star ,Grayson West. 𝘕𝘰 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 is meant to be sweet small-town based rom-com or it would be if the actors don't kill each other in the filming.

What is it with this author's female characters being a little self-centered.
I still liked the book though.

I loved the on-set antics and the love/hate sex the story featured and the way Emmy stnads up for Grayson and how Grayson knows Emmy and is instantly cocky to annoy her.

There was some groveling missing from both the characters but all in all a fun read.

This was my third read from Falon Ballard, I was very excited to try it as I’ve really enjoyed her writing. This newest book was no exception in that the author is one I truly enjoy the writing style of, I started and finished the book in a single day.

Right On Cue offers a second chance, celebrity romance when two actors are brought together as co-stars and love interests in a small town romcom movie. The premise / tropes of this newest book really spoke to me as a romance reader and lover of all things romcom.

While the story itself was well written and kept me engaged enough to want to read. I did find that there were some bits that did not work as well for me. Overall I came to Kim’s and appreciate our leads; I especially liked the fact that they were in their 30s. However, Emmy made herself difficult to like at several points.

I think my biggest nitpick or bit that didn’t switch well with me was the third act breakup via a really unnecessary and irritating (for me) total lack of mature communication. I was very unreasonably annoyed by the refusal of one character to be an adult and talk something out or name it rather than ghost / block. Might be a me problem but I was super displeased. 🤷‍♀️ Given the slow trajectory of the relationship building overall it felt even less needed.

I will also offer that this one was far steamier than I recall others being. Overall, I think this book will definitely find its audience- good book, interesting storyline, great author. An author I’ll certainly try again in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an arc copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Adorable enemies to lovers trope book about movie screenwriter Emmy Harper who has her own hang ups and heart ache and runs into her former teen age crush turned let down Greyson West on the set of a movie that Emmy wrote. Much fun ensues from there. It’s a great, fun read that was easy to get into at a time when I just wanted something light hearted but well written. This completely hit the mark!

This rom-com was an enjoyable escape read. There was much that I liked, especially the fact that most of the book takes place during the filming of a movie in a small town during the winter. The main characters being actors, with one of them also being a screenwriter and nepotism baby, was unique and fun. I thought supporting characters being the hair and makeup crew was delightful. This one packs a lot of steamy scenes.

What I did not enjoy was the breakup because it felt ridiculous, forced, and out of character for the couple; even more so considering that this was a couple who were getting a second chance after a previous miscommunication when they were younger caused them to breakup. I also disliked how the main character’s best friend, and director of the movie, faded away and disappeared. Still, this was a fun and quick read told in Emmy’s perspective. I recommend it for readers who enjoy first person perspective and a steamy celebrity romantic comedy.

🧡Book Review: Right on Cue by Falon Ballard 🎬

4.5/5 ⭐️

Trigger warnings: sexual content and death of a parent

This book was so fun! It was steamy, a fantastic setting with the movie scene and Emmy and Grayson had incredible chemistry and banter! Did I mention this book is steamy?!🔥 If you love celebrity romance, enemies to lovers and a slow burn, you’ll love this book.

I loved the relationship Emmy had with her best friend Liz and the makeup artist Sam, those moments were some of my favorite. Grayson is sweet and caring and I loved the way he cared for Emmy when she wasn’t feeling well.

At some points I wanted to shake both Emmy and Grayson because of their miscommunication but overall, I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it!

A sincere thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for giving me the opportunity to read the eARC of Right On Cue by Falon Ballard in exchange for an honest review.

Emmy, who has been working behind the scenes ever since her first and last moment on screen, finds herself in a predicament while working on her latest screenplay with her best friend. They can't find a leading lady. After much persuasion and an ultimatum from investors, they decide Emmy has to take the leading role. Everything seems to be going according to plan, until she discovers that her arch nemesis, Grayson, is sharing the set with her. Grayson happened to be in her first and only movie, which led her to end her acting career prematurely. Now, Emmy must learn how to set aside her feelings and act alongside the person who pushed her to quit acting.

Honestly, I adore steamy romances that also incorporate genuine emotion, and this book delivered on all fronts. Right On Cue is the first book I've read by Falon Ballard, and I'm already scrambling to find copies of her other works. I truly loved the storyline and found myself rooting for Emmy and Grayson throughout the entire story.

I have adored Falon's previous 2 books so I was pumped to read Right on Cue!! This rom com was so fun and quirky, I couldn't get enough! A former actress turned screenwriter has a chance at fame again with someone she absolutely cannot stand. What's gonna happen once the camera is off? I LOVED THIS ONE!

Falon Ballard is giving us small town charm with big time stars - an enemies to lovers celebrity romance that is sure to make you swoon!

Recap:
Emmy Harper, child of 2 prominent Hollywood stars and one time teen actor, is a romcom writer who is the Nora Ephron of her generation. She is excited that her best friend is directing her most recent film, and even convinced her to try acting again and star in it! Turns out her costar is now her long time nemesis and Hollywood heartthrob, Grayson West. Now, Emmy and Grayson are stuck in a small town, shooting the most romantic of movies, while publicly hating each other. With some awkward interactions, a whole bunch of sexual tension, and forced to be close to each other, the hate quickly turns into something else.

Review:
I love an enemies to lovers trope, especially when you give me the cherry on top of a celebrity romance! Falon Ballard gives us a book that is funny, sexy, angsty, and sweet - with two very likeable and charming leads. I love the behind the scenes feel of the book, seeing the casual and not so casual interactions between Emmy and Grayson, understanding the feelings behind their dislike for each other and how easily they came together. However, my biggest issue with it, and the main reason I did not give it 5 stars, was the reasoning behind the miscommunication issues between the main characters.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!!

From the beginning, this book hooked me with its wit, adorableness, and fun-filled pages. I couldn’t help but be curious about how the romance between Emmy and Grayson would bloom, and I can confidently say that my curiosity was satisfied throughout the story.

What sets this book apart is its main characters, who are wonderfully quirky and full of personality. Emmy’s interactions with the other characters in the book make her a delightful protagonist, striking a perfect balance between being entertaining and not coming across as annoying. As for Grayson, while he may initially come off as smug, it doesn’t take long for him to reveal his redeeming qualities, making it incredibly easy for readers to root for their eventual union.

It’s true that the plot itself may not be the most original, as I have come across similar stories about movie stars who initially despise each other before eventually falling in love. However, what makes “Right on Cue” stand out is Emmy, Grayson, and the supporting cast’s unique blend of personalities. They give the book a refreshing twist, making it a truly engaging read I couldn’t.

If you’re in the mood for a delightful, quick read that is sure to entertain, I highly recommend picking up “Right on Cue.” It’s a book that will captivate you with its charm, keep you eagerly turning the pages, and leave you with a smile.

Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for allowing me to read and review this book.

Falon Ballard never misses for me, and this just keeps the streak going. This is like if a Hallmark movie were on HBO, cute and romantic but alllllll the spice. While I just wanted the main characters to just freaking talk to each other already, I really enjoyed this story. 4.5 stars.
