Great premise, not the best execution (in my mind). It was an enjoyable enough read but not one I’d recommend as I think there are better thrillers out there to spend your time on

The premise of this book really had me wondered how it would play out, and it didn’t disappoint! A missing child is every mother’s fear, and even more sinister when you child is right with you! You really need to read this, it’s explosive and so well crafted! I loved it.

Reading Between the Wines book review #138/115(met goal in Sept!) for 2023:
Rating: 4 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book: Missing
Author: Ruby Speechley
Available Now!!

Sipping thoughts: Wow, if you are looking for a disturbing and dark book then this is the one for you. Can you imagine seeing a post that your child is missing when your child is right with you. Then imagine, the harassment does not stop there! I felt so much for Ellie and her life only gets worse as the book goes on. Thinking back on this book as I write the review, I am really upset for Ellie and what happened to her in this book. Any author that can elicit such a strong emotion for a fictitious character, is a great one in my book!

Cheers and thank you to @BoldwoodBooks, and @Netgalley for an advanced copy of @Missing.

Missing by Ruby Speechley was an excellent psychological thriller that is realistic book from start to finish. When a single mum called Ellie is shown a missing person post on Social media - Facebook.

It’s of her three-year-old son, Tyler…...........

But he’s right there by her side, holding her hand. Surely this is some kind of prank? Ellie knows her friend Louise can go too far with her jokes sometimes. But, It can't be Tyler........

Ellie is so used to the other mums gossiping at the school gates… It's the norm at school gates for other mum's to gossip!
But, now the other parents are questioning whether Tyler is really her child. Ellie does everything she can to prove the post is fake.
But, the longer this goes on and she knows it is malicious.

Who would do this to her?

And why?

Could be her ex, Darren? but deep down she knows it must be linked to what happened all those years ago, on the night she’s been doing her best to forget…........ All she knows is that she has to keep her son safe – no matter what.........WoW this was So good I ended up being glued to my chair and could not put my kindle down!

I highly recommend this book.

**TRIGGER WARNING** Rape. Sexual Assault.

Big Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood books for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review

Not a bad book, but I was expecting something different after I read the blurb.

While it is an easy read, with short chapters that mostly end with a cliffhanger, I felt a bit let down by the somehow unrealistic plot, which was also a bit repetitive and overexplained. I found the main character very annoying; some of her reactions and decisions didn't make much sense to me.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Ellie is a single mother, she knows she is not perfect and she has done messed up things in her past but the only thing she treasured in her life is Taylor, her three year old son.

Ellie can't figure out who is Taylor's dad, the only answer is her ex-boyfriend Darren but he strongly claims Taylor is not his and she is left with one night that she blurred her from her life and does not want to think about.

When she come across a post on Facebook stating Taylor is missing with a photo of him.She panics as she don't know who would go to this extend to prank her. However to prove its her son, it is not easy because of her past.

This book is a very easy read with a fast pace. The premise is intriguing and the plot is mediocre. The narrator often confused me with her decision and her talks about past. She is a messed character who carries lot of burdens and I felt the emotions and sympathy towards her.

There was not much of the twist and turns it is easily predictable. However I enjoyed the ride throughout the book.

Overall I recommend this to those who need an easy and simple plot for beginners.

The combination of the book title, cover and blurb hooked me in..

Ellie is a single mother looking after her little boy Tyler.

One day she starts receiving funny looks from other parents and it soon becomes clear it’s all because of a post on Facebook… a post to say her son Tyler is missing!

As we all would do, parents judge, some too quickly and it takes a while for common sense to kick in and
show the post is a fake… but who would do that? And why?

We soon learn Ellie has a disturbing past. While she’s now sober that wasn’t always the case and one night many years ago something happened that she’s been trying to hide from.. but she can only run so long and that past will need to be confronted.

Not to spoil too much but the phycological fear of Clowns that Ellie has really hit home for me as it’s my fear.. but Ellie has much more of a reason to fear them than me.

As the plot progresses It feels like someone is playing mind games with Ellie but who and what is the end game here?

The pace of the book was perfect for me.. it kept you hooked but never bored.. I spent most of my time thinking I knew who was behind it..and their connection to Ellie but it’s the motivation behind the why that had me stumped and I feel that’s just like Ellie is.. it’s
takes her a while to see the danger she’s in but when she does she can’t put all the pieces together.

I try to give none spoiler reviews so I’ll not go into detail but the mind games, the utter torment Ellie goes through is unreal.. it’s subtle but builds and builds as the pressure
raises, she really doesn’t know who she can trust and being so far away from
her close friend means she’s isolated and those she does confide in just don’t
see the danger either

Pace 5* Plot 5* Character Development 5* Loved it! 5*. (Clowns -5* urhghghghghhghg I hate clowns ha ha)

A missing child is what nightmares are made from. I love a @rubyjtspeechley book and was instantly intrigued to see how this was going to play out.

Instantly, I was hooked. I was desperate to know how this was going to play out. In true style, this is full of twists and turns which make it impossible to predict how this will play out.

Speechley is a genius, everything about this book has been completely and utterly brilliant.

I’ve read many books by this author and this is a firm favourite. This is an author who gets better and better with every book. This is a brilliant and gripping read.

My heart has raced, my pulse has pounded and I’ve been completely unable to put this down.

I have no hesitation in recommending this gem.

An enthralling read but trigger warnings are necessary. It addresses difficult themes with unconsensual sex at its core. The novel was pacy with plenty of twists and turns.
A must read, thanks to netgalley and bold wood books for my advance copy in exchange for an honest est review.

Ruby Speechley does a great job in creating a psychological thriller that is realistic and scary. The plot worked in the real life and the characters felt like they were supposed to. It had everything that I hoped for and glad I got to read.

I was somewhat misled by the blurb about this book. What is mentioned (a claim that Ellie's child is not really hers) is really only a very small percentage of the plot. In reading the blurb I thought that would be the major plot. I was wrong. That being said, it was not a bad read. I did read through this pretty quickly as it does keep your attention and while you may figure out what is happening fairly early on it is still a good read. I would recommend going in somewhat unaware, not reading too much of the publisher's description. Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC.

This is my first book by the author and I will definitely be reading her other books.

I was genuinely freaked out from the beginning. The book touches on issues social media trolling, stalking and the dynamics of school mothers and their cliques.

I liked the flashbacks to the past and that they also developed at the same pace of the present storyline.

It did not take long for me to be completely drawn into this novel. The book was fast paced and I have to say I really felt for the main character, Ellie.

I was definitely kept guessing throughout and the blame pointed to several people as I read on.

This book really did show how social media can be used to cause harm and scare people. It also dealt with some very serious topics like rape and abuse.

I look forward to reading more by this author!

This was absolutely gripping. Ellie comes across a Facebook post with a picture of her son, claiming he is missing. He isn't, he's right there holding her hand. News soon spreads, as Ellie tries to prove the post is fake. Is it a prank gone too far, her ex or someone else with malicious intent.

I found this such a page turner and would recomend to those who like twisty, psychological thrillers

Every chapter of Missing ended on a cliff hanger so it was impossible to not finish this book within a few days! Ruby did a great job sprinkling in flashbacks here and there to help readers figure out the ending of the book. Thank you NetGalley, Boldwood Books, and the author Ruby Speechley for the opportunity to read an ARC of Missing in exchange for my honest review!

Elle has only been living in her flat for two years with her three-year-old son Tyler. She moved due to a horrible incident not to mention someone was stalking her on Facebook which is why she isn’t on any social media sites. This is why the morning she dropped Tyler off at school and all the clicky moms were staring at her frowning She tried to pay no attention to it but a nicer mom named Louise approached her and told her there was something she must see, at first she refused but Louise insisted and then showed her a Facebook post saying her son Tyler was missing and to contact the number given this is just the first attempt to ruin Elle‘s reputation first she thinks it may be Tyler‘s father Brady or his girlfriend causing her these problems Brady claims he isn’t Tyler‘s father but has refused to do a DNA test when he finally agrees to it it doesn’t bring her the closure she expected but when she tries to find out who is behind all the rumors spreading things just get worse. When she takes a weekend away to visit her best friend Molly while leaving Tyler with her neighbor and other good friend Kate and her son Joe the weekend is not only not relaxing it seems to amp up everything L fierce Little Joe had to be rushed to urgent care it’s OKate felt it was OK to leave Tyler with her new boyfriend Harry someone Elle didn’t know just one thing seem like they can’t get any worse El Rosas back home and they do exactly that! I haven’t even told 1/3 of the story there is so much to this book and although some parts of it didn’t gel cohesively together with common sense and logic it’s still made for a very thrilling and on the edge of your seat thriller. So this isn’t the best thriller but it is very far from being the worst in a book I still highly recommend. I want to think Boldwood books and net galley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

I really enjoyed this thriller. Whilst I guessed a few of the twists that came, the delivery of them was perfect. The book felt easy to follow abd a good read. It's my first from this author but certainly want to read more
