Thank you to NetGalley, Nichelle Giraldes and Dreamscape Media for an audio arc of No Child of Mine in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own & may not be reproduced (except quotations).
“When Essie Singh and her husband, Sanjay, move into their new home, they expect to do renovations, they don’t expect to be confronted with a curse that threatens both their relationship and Sanjay’s life.
Essie has always seen herself as someone defined by her ambitions, a cold and independent woman, whose only soft spot is her husband. She never imagined herself as a mother, but then she finds out she’s pregnant. As her difficult pregnancy transforms her body and life into something foreign to her, her husband spends the nights pacing in the attic, and the house begins to whisper.
As Essie’s pregnancy progresses, both her and her husband’s lives are warped by a curse that has haunted her family for generations, leaving a string of fatherless daughters in its wake. Essie must confront the past and end the cycle of violence or risk losing her husband and damning her own daughter to the same fate.”
I am on the fence on how I feel about this one. I kind of liked it, but I kind of didn’t.
I loved how much Essie & Sanjay love each other. But at the same time, Essie is freaking selfish.
And this whole curse thing was just not believable. It was silly. And then the ending with how the curse was broken was so simple & took no effort at all. Why did it take all the way to Essie to figure it out. I like occult & paranormal, but this one was just a bit silly for me.
I have rated it 3.5 Stars, but will round up to 4.

ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.
The multi-cast narration really made this story stand out! All the narrators did a wonderful job and it was very easy to listen to for long periods of time. The story takes place in two different timelines, the past and the present, and I found all the curse stuff from the past really intriguing. I liked how everything was explained and I had no questions by the end of the book. I would recommend to anyone who likes mystery, fantasy, and some suspense!

Essie and Sanjay don't plan on having children, but when she becomes pregnant she's worried about a family curse that would kill Sanjay and leave her to raise their child alone unless she can do something to break the curse.

Quick & entertaining but I’m not sure I’d think of it again or recommend to my fellow readers when asked.

Going through a haunting in general can be scary but that on top of being pregnant - doesn’t sound like a good time. Poor Essie is going through this very scenario but bed ridden. This wasn’t horror, there were some elements but not much in my opinion. This was mostly about pregnancy and motherhood and that’s not really something I like to read about. Some of it was a little cheesy as well. I thought it was repetitive and way too much filler. The alternate point of view from the past was more interesting than current day.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book!

Love, marriage, pregnancy, motherhood, and a family curse....
Essie is a happily married woman who is working on completing her law degree. She and her husband, Sanjay are both shocked when she learns that she is pregnant with their first child. The morning sickness is relentless and Essie doesn't feel in control of her body. Plus, Sanjay has started spending more time in his office in the attic, leaving Essie alone, listening to the house whispering to her.
This book is told through two timelines. In the past timelines readers meet Isabelle and Ana. Two women who are in love with each other but are married to men. With two timelines, I usually enjoy one more than the other. I found myself being very invested in the timeline in the past. I knew that there was going to be a connection to it and the present. I was fully invested in Ana and Isabelle's tale of longing, love, and being separated. I felt for them and enjoyed their letters.
I had both the book and audiobook version of this book. I enjoyed the narration of the audiobook. The narrators did a great job bringing the characters to life. This was a hard book for me to rate. I found it to be gripping and interesting but as other reviewers have mentioned, it is very repetitive.
I did enjoy the mounting tension and dread in the book. I found that to be nicely done. My big beef is the repetition, and I wanted more creepiness, more scary moments. With hearing whispers and seeing dark smoke/images, I was hoping for a more sinister or creepy feeling read. I didn't find this to be scary or horrific because the characters didn't come off as being frightened by what was happening.
Then ending while it made sense, didn't pack the punch I was waiting for. It seemed to happen too easily, in my opinion.
I do feel that the author pulled off the two timelines nicely especially the timeline in the past.

This was just ok for me. There wasn’t anything that stood out or “wow” moments. It was a good book to read on a rainy day to pass the time.

Essie never thought she'd have a baby but when she finds out she's pregnant, her husband, Sanjay, is thrilled. With a family curse looming over their heads (those who have a daughter lose their husband within a year), Essie is more stressed than ever and soon finds herself on bed rest. When Sanjay starts to become distant, Essie can't help but worry that maybe there is something to the curse after all.
I was lucky enough to listen to the audio of this book while reading along with my e-book copy. The narration was fantastic and perfectly complemented the eerie story. The story buildup was intense, and I was fully invested in knowing what was going to happen however when the ending came, I sadly felt a little let down, expecting more of a bang of an ending. I did love the characters though and would still recommend giving this one a go.

This is my second read through. I loved it as a book and I love it as audiobook. This is a ghost story about an ill-fated romance and a bargain with dark powers. For generations women in this family have had a daughter and then became widows.
Which wouldn't be an issue if they didn't love the guys so much.
It is very tragic and sad.
But our modern day gal has a plan?
It was good. Sanjay was too wonderful to be real though.
I liked the narration too.
