I’ve only read one other book by Freida, and I found this one tone just as engaging as the other. Yes, some of the twists and dialogue were hard to believe. BUT, I enjoyed this book as pure escapist fiction.

The three perspectives alternate smoothly, and I truly wasn’t a fan of any of them. They all had their flaws and moments, which made the whole twisty feel of the book more appealing. That said, I can see how some readers may be bothered by the inappropriate grooming relationship between a male teacher and his female student. It wasn’t graphic, definitely closed door. The one thing I found odd was Eve’s obsession with shoes.

In this fast-paced thriller, Freida McFadden shows what happens when a tumultuous marriage shows its cracks as terrible secrets are exposed and high school drama becomes deadly. Eve and Nate are married teachers at the same school where one of their older colleagues has not returned due to a scandal involving a student. As the school year goes on, both Eve and the student, Addie, butt heads as Addie struggles in math class and with bullying from the popular students. Nate, on the other hand, takes an interest in Addie as he attempts to help the troubled teen. As their marital struggles begin to explode, Addie's relationship with both teachers will also cause more strife. McFadden's pace and style provides a gripping read. This was such a good book! I always love Freida’s books but this one was a little different, but none the less amazing! The ending had my jaw on the floor. Every chapter had a crazy twist you would never expect. I am definitely recommending this one to all my friends. Great job, Freida!

I've read a few Freida McFadden books and have liked them reasonably well. This one, however, fell incredibly short for me. The total focus of inappropriate student/teacher relationships was difficult for me to stomach (though I'm not always averse to such plots), and the final twist was just ridiculously unbelievable. My biggest problem with the book, though, is the writing. I understand that thrillers are not literary fiction, but I'm beginning to think McFadden is just trying to churn these out too quickly and not taking the time needed with the writing itself. The characters were SO two dimensional - caricatures of their role in the story. The plot was over-explained and characters' reactions to what happened were repetitive. And I think more care could have been taken with the prose, in general, and with editing once the prose was set down on paper. So this one was a definite miss for me.

Please know that this book has a student/teacher grooming situation. If this is a trigger for you then don’t read this one. It’s closed door relations, but it does talk about the things that happen. I feel like this was one of Freida’s riskier books with the content. There’s no smut of course. I really enjoyed this one. I felt like it was predictable, but it also had some twists I didn’t see coming and I was shook. This book made me angry and I wanted to throw my kindle, but I didn’t because I love my kindle. I wanted to see justice happen because this stuff really happens and teachers are supposed to be someone our kids trust.

When the whole school seems to hate you for a misunderstanding with a math teacher from the previous year, your father who passed away that same year, it's rough. You have no one to confine in, no one who will talk to you. High school is rough as it is. But when your new math teacher hates you and your being bullied and the only person who is there for you, and shows interest in your work is your hot English teacher why wouldn't you get closer to them?

All I have to add is as a parent as a teacher I love your children as my own children my job is to protect them. It makes me sooo sick and mad on how adults abuse that privilege. We send our children to school thinking/ knowing/ hoping that they are being taken care of and protected not being mentally and physically abused.

This book will have you on the edge of your seat as you reach the end of every chapter, you have to keep going. You think you know what's going to happen but Ms. Freida McFadden will get you every single time. The twist in the epilogue did leave me wanting a little bit more information, and a little more from the story of what happened from "that person's" point of view. Other than the epilogue, I absolutely loved this book. It's easy to read, fast paced, and keeps you interested in Nate's, Abbie's, and Eve's story. I would definitely recommend to everyone who loves a good thriller.

Oh my gosh, Freida has done it again!

First, this review has spoilers. So here is your chance. I got this book early from netgally and the publishers in exchange for a review.

First, for the Freida books that I have read previously, this one seemed to start off a bit slower than the others. Literally, the only thing I have to say bad. But it quickly picked up the pace and I obviously couldn't put it down, in between caring for my kids that is.

Spoiler ahead!

I had a feeling just based on some of her other books that the wife wasn't dead. What I didn't see coming was her killing him, Kenzie being involved with Nate, and Jay being Hudson! I said out loud, as I tried not to wake my three month old that I'm holding, "oh my gosh" as I read the last part.

Everyone kept saying that this is her best book yet, it definitely is a contender for being her best book! I'm so happy I got to read it early. Thank you!

Okay. Freida McFadden did it again.

She had me hooked from page one. How can you not get hooked when the first scene is a body being buried???

And then the underlying theme (trigger warning) of a teacher/student relationship is one that has haunted me since the Mary Kay Letourneau scandal. Having poetic references to Edgar Allen Poe run throughout the story was fascinating. Finding out someone who was dead might not be is disturbing. And then the twist - literally on the last page! - oh my God!!!!

I will never forget the storyline to this book. #HighlyRecommend

Two teachers, unhappily married to each other, only kissing three times a day, a monthly scheduled intimate time and one student who comes back to school after a year of scandal. Much can happen....and it does!

This book was unputdownable (if that is a word). I started it the second I was approved and couldnt stop. I have read almost all of Frieda McFadden's books and thought I had her twists figured out. NOPE. The epiloge!!! I seriously was saying WHAT!!! out loud. So good and twisty.

I absolutely love my Freida books! There are so many things about her writing that work for me. I love the fast pace, quick chapters. I love that 90% of the time I think I have it figured out and surprise....I don't lol! In The Teacher, there were plenty of characters to hate on for sure. I did have empathy for Addie and another student (no spoilers). I do wish Addie would have came off a little more mature but I think that was the point. If you are looking for a book you can't put down, grab this one! Thank to Freida for being awesome :)

I had fairly high expectations going into this. Freida McFadden's books are gaining popularity among our patrons and I've had several recommended to me. I love a good, fast-paced thriller and from what I've heard it sounds like McFadden is great at that. However, I do not think that this particular book should have been my first introduction to the author.

I found all of the characters to be quite unlikeable, though it seemed that Eve was intentionally written to be that way...maybe as a way to justify what would happen to her later.

The teacher/student relationship is where this book lost me. This was very gross. Addie is a sixteen-year-old girl who, like her other peers, is enamored with Mr. Bennett. He's young (even though he's over double their age), and attractive, and he's "intelligent". Mr. Bennett and Addie engage in a sexual relationship and the reader is led to believe that this is the first time something like this has happened, though you later find out he preyed upon another girl two years earlier. When she was FOURTEEN.

The epilogue reveals that Eve was also having an affair with a student. Throughout the book there is really no inclination that Eve believes him to be anything other than an adult, but it still ends up being another gross, upsetting addition to this book.

I like Freida McFadden because she is a quick read and her books keep me interested— this was no exception! The book started out great and kept me wanting more and did not disappoint when it was finished. Good characters, i kind of didn’t like almost any of them to be honest.

The teacher - Freida McFadden

Wow, this did not disappoint at all!
I had no idea where this story was going, and was delightfully surprised by they way everything worked out. I really enjoyed the characters narrative switching between Eve and Addie, really kept you hooked on the story and wanting to know what happened next.
A very thrilling read that will keep you hooked from the first page!

Highly recommend

The Teacher by Freida McFadden was the second book I have read by this author. While I liked the other one, this book blew me away, as it was bonkers in the best sort of way. Sure, some of the plot points were over the top unbelievable, but that only added to the thrill ride.

Eve and Nate are both teachers at Caseham High. From the outside their marriage appears to be perfect, but much is simmering beneath the surface, and it gets stirred up when sophomore Addie is assigned to both of their class rosters. She has a bad reputation stemming from events the previous school year, but no one else really knows whether it was her fault.

The pacing of the story was even and was pressed along by some well-placed reveals. The biggest one, however, is saved for the end and I dropped my jaw when I read it. Trust me; you won't see this one coming.

I will recommend this to readers who like domestic thrillers with shocking twists.

Here comes Freida again with a twisty thriller. Just when you think you have seen the twist, here she comes again to add to the deliciousness of reading Freida McFadden. Eve and Addie are the main characters, but there are other important characters that almost share that role. This is one you will want to discuss with your friends after everyone finishes reading - no one will see it coming and that makes it all the more fun! I am recommending to all of my readers who love a thriller with a twist (and do not like gore and horror). I look forward to the next one from Freida McFadden.

I think I can officially say after reviewing three books I am just a Frida McFadden fan. I have yet to come across a book of hers that I do not like. She is a master at weaving together the perfect mystery and characters that will always keep you on your toes. Addie is the perfect character who is wrapped up in a scandal that she keeps trying to tell others never happened. But sometimes rumors can become true, especially when the right person persuades you. Readers will be swept up in this story and fully immersed in all the drama. Getting the story from both Eve and Addie’s point of view provides the perfect story.
Thank you so very much to Poisoned Pen Press and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book. I can’t wait to recommend it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️-Format: ebook, Genre: thriller, suspense, TW: Adult/teen relationship

Addie is a troubled teen with a bad reputation at Caseham High. She has a crush on her English teacher Nate Bennett. He sees a lot of promise in her poetry and asks her to join the schools poetry magazine. Eve, Nate’s wife, is weary about Addie spending time with her husband because what she did last year.

This is another great book from @fmcfaddenauthor! It’s a quick read, and kept me engaged. And, as always, there’s twist after twist!

Thank you @NetGalley and Frieda McFadden for the opportunity to read this ARC for an honest review!

I enjoyed the book a great deal, but it was a slow start for me. I didn’t get genuinely interested till about 80% in and felt like I had it mostly figured out the twists, till the very end. It was a good read content wise, just wish there were more twists earlier on, instead of mostly in the last quarter of the book (for me).

I couldn’t put The Teacher down. This was so well written and so engaging . A husband and wife went way beyond the norm in this book of lust and desire. I was amazed at the twist at the end. It was one hour after I finished the book that it hit me. Wow
