The recipes seem pretty easy to follow, but also I am someone who is familiar and comfortable with Mexican food. I can't wait to try to make the mole negro since mole is my one of my favorite dishes. Some of the recipes do seem to be a bit more Americanized, such as the chicken wings, but they still sound good.

If I were rating the cookbook on just the recipes I would rate this a 4 out of 5 stars.

However there were a few things that I wish they spent a bit more time on. For example, the layout of some the recipes seem off.
On page 90, the about section of the recipe looks to be misplaced. It's talking about tacos when I believe it should be talking about tamales verdes.

And again, this happened on page 146 and 147. On step 3 and until the end of the recipe, I believe the steps belong to the tacos de canasta recipe. There is no birria steps after step 2.
And on page 175 there appears a few more errors.

There are a few other inconsistencies (some of the final steps have her "Beautiful! Y Listo!" phrase missing) and some sentences that could have been written better.

Hopefully this copy that I reviewed is a draft and these mistakes (like the missing recipe steps) because it would be a bummer to buy the book for the famous birria recipe and not have it. So for these errors, I will deduct it a star.

Thank you for allowing me to review this cookbook. I look forward to checking out the cookbook once it had been released.

The Recipes Look Amazing!

I wish I could say I tried all of the recipes! The ones I did try were yummmm!!

Easy to follow recipes! Many will become family favorites.

This would make a great gift and many great family gatherings. I look forward to purchasing a few as gifts.

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NetGalley on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My Mexican Mesa, Y Listo! Is a mexican cookbook. The sections are Breakfast and lunch, Appetizers, Tacos, taquitos, and tamales, Chicken, fish, and vegetarian, Pork and beef, Stews and soups, Rice and beans, Tortillas, salsas, and more, Desserts, and Drinks.

The recipes look phenomenal. The inside was all black and white (at least in the ebook version) which took away from the fun vibe of the cookbook.

I really enjoyed the personal touches she added to the cookbook and I can’t wait to make some of the recipes.

This title was ok, the organization of the text and photos was confusing. I was looking forward to the unique designs but was disappointed once I started reading. The recipes did not seem very appealing or inspiring.

This one is a tough one for me to review. The whole book was in black and white. I am a very visual person and so it was hard for me to tell whether the food photos were delicious looking or not. There are several things that sounded good but what would take me over the edge of making it or not is how it's presented. If this were in color then it would have made a WORLD of difference for me.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a PDF.

There are so many delicious recipes to choose from here! My daughter and I are fanatical about Mexican food, so I was super excited to get an advance reading copy of this cookbook. My mouth was constantly watering as I read each page. The author, Jenny Martinez, went viral on TikTok with her birria recipe, and you can also find more of her recipes on that platform. I plan on trying out her recipes for posole, salsa, beans and rice…I’ve had a lot, and I know good recipes when I see them. I also loved her anecdotes and stories about which relative made which recipe, and who loves what. Martinez’s sense of humor cracks me up, too: “I suck at [omelets]!” I do, too, Jenny—solidarity!

5 out of 5 stars!

My thanks to NetGalley and Simon Element for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review!

Note to publisher: I posted this review on Goodreads separately, as the NetGalley website says it can’t find the book. This is a common problem, even when I can find the book on Goodreads, and I’m not sure why it does this.

Love how it had every kind of meal, any food that you're in the mood for it's here. I also really like whenever she had personal stories or extra facts about the recipes, that was a nice touch.

I'm from Oaxaca so I've had many of this dishes but some of them are either new to me or had an interesting twist to what we usually do around here, really looking forward to try these recipes.

The way to my families heart is through food. Mexican food is one of their favorites. The queso recipe in this book is a 10/10! Easy to navigate tamale recipes, this cookbook is amazing!
