Stella and her partner Wade appear to have the perfect life. They have a lovely home and Stella loves her job as a teacher in a local secondary school. But when Stella starts to receive a series of threatening letters, her life takes a sinister turn. Determined to find out who is behind the threats, Stella is forced to examine her own dark past. And all evidence points to a man with whom she had a one-night stand. A man Wade knows nothing about. This book will keep you guessing until the end. I had a hard time putting it down. Definitely a gripping mystery.

Physcological drama at it's best! It has a crazy cast of colourful characters and the plot is deceptively simple and made me doubt everything I believed to be true.

The book was great but one of the characters really got on my nerves. Hence the 3 star rating. I found her not to be believable.

"The Quiet One" by J.A. Baker is a riveting psychological drama that will leave readers on the edge of their seats. The story unfolds with Stella and her partner, Wade, seemingly leading a perfect life in their lovely home. Stella's career as a teacher at a local secondary school adds to the idyllic picture of their existence. However, the tranquility is shattered when Stella begins receiving a series of threatening letters, turning her life into a sinister puzzle.

The narrative takes an intense turn as Stella, determined to unveil the identity of her tormentor, is compelled to confront her own dark past. The suspense builds as all evidence points towards a man from her past, someone Wade knows nothing about. This revelation adds a layer of complexity to the storyline, creating an intricate web of secrets and hidden connections.

As Stella decides to confront the man linked to her past, the plot takes unexpected twists. The reader is taken on a journey into the depths of Stella's personal history, and the suspense is skillfully maintained throughout. The author expertly explores the theme of escaping one's past, posing the question: Can you ever truly escape the shadows that linger?

The characters are well-developed, and the tension between Stella and the mysterious man adds a layer of emotional complexity. Baker weaves a narrative that keeps readers guessing, skillfully blending psychological suspense with a deep exploration of the human psyche.

The escalating threats and the fear of impending doom create a sense of urgency that propels the plot forward. The author masterfully builds the suspense, leaving readers eager to unravel the mystery behind the campaign of hate and the motive driving it.

In "The Quiet One," J.A. Baker delivers a compelling psychological drama that explores the fragility of a seemingly perfect life when faced with the shadows of the past. Gripping, intense, and unmissable, this novel will keep readers hooked until the very end, making it a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers.

Another great book from this author. I've read a few now and they always deliver a good story. This one was slightly different but, still excellent. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Stella is a married school teacher, on the outside appearing to live a nice quiet life. She begins receiving threatening messages that she worries will expose her for things she’s done.

This is written through Stella’s POV and the POV of our mystery note writer. We get background storyline and information along the way setting a scene of two lives influenced by broken homes, a desire to fit in, and the depth of our choices. This explores the topic of the bullying and the greater harm and impact.

I had never read Baker's work before and was presently surprised. This is a great book for people who enjoy some well-executed suspense and plot twists. While it lost me a bit a the halfway-mark, it does keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat. Will likely be reading some more of Baker’s work.

Baker does it again! The tension you feel reading this is so real. The Quiet One was utterly incredible. I will officially reading anything JA writes. Just incredible writing. There is plenty of tension and suspense as the author keeps the reader second-guessing. This story is everything I hoped for and more. This has been a completely addictive and unputdownable read from the very first page. A dark and chilling psychological thriller.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #BoldwoodBooks for the ARC #TheQuietOne by #JABaker. This is an emotional book about abuse and bullying. It was hard to read about all the abuse going on and the ending result. I love this book and highly recommend.

Can you ever escape the past? Stella and her partner Wade appear to have the perfect life. They have a lovely home and Stella loves her job as a teacher in a local secondary school. And all the evidence points to a man with whom she had a one-night stand. A man Wade knows nothing about. Deciding to confront him, Stella discovers the man knows nothing about the letters, forcing her to look even closer to home and a secret she thought would stay hidden.

This story pays particular attention to bullies and the changes it can bring on the bully and the people who have been bullied. Filled with twists, suspense, and a great pace, I was guessing all the way through. This is a thought-provoking read. The story is told from Stella and an unknown voice's perspective. This was quite confusing as both characters had similar backgrounds and they both had alcoholic parents. I was pulled in after reading a couple of chapters.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #JABajer for my ARC of #TheQuietOne in exchange for an honest review.

This book started out grabbing my attention with the character being held captive. I unfortunately had a hard time following afterward due to two characters having a similar family background and the way it was laid out to be discreet. This was intentional to create an element of surprise, but it had me confused.

But when Stella starts to receive a series of threatening letters, her life takes a sinister turn.

This book is full of suspense and shocking twists. Which had me guessing right to the end.
It wasn’t who I thought it would be and was very surprised who it turned out to be.

I wasn’t to sure I liked how the story was being told from the POV of Stella, and from the POV of the unnamed person. I found it slightly confusing, but would still recommend the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood books for the opportunity to review this book.
