I have had an apple pencil for a few years because I wanted to learn how to draw digitally, but have always felt a little intimidated to start. This book quickly taught me how to use basic shapes and tools to create simple illustrations which helped me get past my analysis paralysis. It includes tutorials that take a few minutes to complete, so it is easy to learn in your spare time. The projects are also fun, which encourages you to keep coming back to learn more. It goes over a lot of the basics, making it accessible for a complete beginner, however if you have experience with design software or traditional drawing, it is easy to skim and read the information most practical for your application. I have always used Adobe products for design, and this book uses Procreate on iPad; most of the tools are similar, but some have slightly different names, so this was a helpful way to translate that information. I would highly recommend this to anyone trying to get started in digital illustration or looking for some inspiration!
I absolutely love this book & it couldn’t be more perfect for me! It’s beautifully done and I cannot wait to order a copy to help me on my journey to understanding how to use Procreate to extend my art making skills into the digital world.
I love how well tools & techniques are broken down and make them easy to understand. The illustrations help me further understand & try the techniques myself! Lisa makes everything feel very doable and inspires me to take her teachings & run with them to see what I can create myself. Thank you for this amazing book! It’s perfect for anyone wanting to get more comfortable learning Procreate.
I saw this book on NetGalley and thought it might help me get more use out of my Apple Pencil and I was correct! The book focuses mainly on the Procreate app, which is great, but I learned a lot of things that will be helpful no matter what software I’m using. There is also a lot of basic art instruction and many fun and super cute drawing exercises. This book would be a great first introduction to digital art and is a great learning tool with some great exercises for any level digital artist.
Drawing Digital : The complete guide for learning to draw & paint on your iPad is aimed primarily at beginners. It focusses on the Procreate App but can really be applied to any. It covers all the basics and includes 12 step by step painting and drawing projects. It is easy to read and follow and is a fun place to start your digital drawing journey.
I’ve been wanting to try Procreate so I can design some items for my business, and this book is fantastic! The detail included is amazing and with all of the content included, I’m confident I can create some amazing designs. The book is so comprehensive and is perfect for beginners who know nothing about digital illustrations.
I’m familiar with Lisa Bardot from her YouTube channel and so was excited to read and review this book — and it doesn’t disappoint. Lisa has a knack for instruction like the art teacher we all wish we’d have had in middle school. She’s got a way of explaining things simply and clearly in her videos that translates equally well to the pages of this book so that you can follow along and learn principles of good design. Really happy to be able to have previewed this book and confirm that it’s one I’ll want to use as a reference for a long time to come. I also enjoy Lisa’s expertise in Procreate — my favorite iPad drawing app. Thanks, Lisa!
I’ve been a fan of Lisa Bardot for years. She is a fantastic digital artist and the way she lays out this book is perfect for beginners and those that want to hone their skills.
This has been such a helpful book. I honestly struggled with using my iPad and procreate app to create and design. The author broke the process down in accessible chunks and gave excellent tutorials to help the user determine what styles and techniques work and feel best for them. I will be using it for reference in the future and am really grateful for this book.
I received an ARC courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. My opinions are mine alone.
After seeing this book, I'm in awe of the possibilities of drawing apps, and by that I mean all the help you get. This book is extremely educational in the use of such possibilities, and the illustrations are realistic and the layout top notch. I don't know enough to judge the content, but it's very good with what it covers.
I legitimately squealed in excitement when I saw that Lisa Bardot had authored an all-in-one tutorial book for digital art! I’ve followed her since 2020 and have used her brushes and tutorials for almost all of my digital art learning. Being able to have all of her advice, tips and tricks in one book is GOLD to me! She has such a wonderfully clear way of explaining steps, and she seems to make sure that people from all stages of art experience can follow along. I would 100% recommend this book to any and all people who are wanted to explore digital art, or sharpen their skills.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you SO much to NetGalley and Octopus Books for letting me review this amazing tutorial book in exchange for an honest review 🎨 🩷
This was very fun and informative. I really enjoyed this and it has helped with my drawing practice. My doodles have gotten much better!
I normally don’t tend to go for the art “how to” books since my field of study is in fine arts. But the cover art for this one really stood out to me, so I figured why not give it a go. And I am SO GLAD that I did. This book is definitely one that once released I will be buying a hard copy. There was so many tips and tricks that can easily be translated into traditional art as well as digital drawing. I love how easy the author broke down basic shapes and basic tips that made me want to pick up my tablet and just draw. If anyone out there is also like me and struggles to find inspiration when it comes to starting a new project, or simply refining and honing in your skills, this book is for you. Thank you to NetGalley and Walter Foster Publishing for giving me the opportunity to view this ahead of release!
This guide is nothing short of fantastic, offering an in-depth exploration of the art of digital drawing that's accessible to both novices and seasoned Procreate users alike. As someone who has dabbled in Procreate for various projects over the years, I couldn't help but reflect on how invaluable this resource would have been during my early days with the app.
What truly sets this guide apart is its dedication to detail, shedding light on the nuances of digital drawing in a comprehensive manner. It doesn't just scratch the surface; it delves deep into the core of Procreate, helping users understand not only how to use the tools but also what they're truly capable of. Personally, I've often employed Procreate's features with success but lacked a clear understanding of the terminology associated with each tool. This guide finally demystified those terms, equipping me with a deeper comprehension of my artistic arsenal.
Despite its depth, the guide remains remarkably easy to follow. The wealth of information it imparts is impressive, yet it never overwhelms. Instead, it empowers users to harness the full potential of Procreate with confidence. Whether you're a newcomer eager to embark on your Procreate journey or a seasoned artist looking to refine your skills, this guide is a valuable companion.
In conclusion, digital drawing is a powerful artistic medium, and this guidebook is an indispensable resource for those seeking to master it. I wholeheartedly recommend it to both new and experienced Procreate users. It's a tool that will not only enhance your current projects but also guide you toward even greater artistic achievements in the future. My journey with Procreate has been enriched thanks to this invaluable guide.
i loved this one!
i draw a lot on my iPad so this book was just perfect for me.
Of course, I already know a few things about digital drawing, but the book was
still helpful and I was able to pick up a few things, try them out and incorporate
them into my drawing routine.
It is really easy to understand and to follow.
thank you netgalley and Ilex Press for providing me this review copy!
This is one of the best books I have read about using Procreate on the iPad. I would say I am very proficient in using Procreate but even I learned a few new things from this book! However, it is not just a book about the app. It is also a very useful resource for learning sketching and drawing, as you will learn how to break down complex forms into simple shapes. Drawing animals, flowers and people are just some of the topics covered in depth.
The book also takes you through a wide range of art projects created in Procreate using native brushes, so you do not need to go out and buy Lisa’s brushes to enjoy the book. The section on how to stylise your artwork was very useful, as was the chapter on colour theory. Overall, this is so much more than a Procreate instruction book, although it is a very good one. It is also a drawing instruction manual, teaching you to draw basically anything you might want to draw. I highly recommend this to anyone who has an interest in art; you will surely find something for you here.
With thanks to Netgalley and Walter Foster Publishing for this ARC
