Are you looking for a great read as we get close to Halloween? Hell of an Angel is a fun and suspenseful paranormal romance.
It's the second in a series, following Imperfect Angel first. I do recommend starting with Imperfect Angel, as it's also a great read, and it includes a lot of world building on who the various types of angels are.
In Hell of an Angel, we focus on the second of the three half-angels protecting humans. Gideon is the player with a bad boy rep among women. But he's such a sweet and protective guy under all of that. His perfect match is Evangeline, a dark angel born in hell who isn't as powerful as the other dark angels. They both have a lot to overcome and can truly see and relate to each other.
This book has romance, suspense, steam, and a fight between good and evil to save the world. There are enough jokes and funny scenes to keep it light. I am having such fun with this Unlocking His Heart series and can't wait for the third about our final half-angel protector.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed Imperfect Angel, the first in this Unlocking His Heart series from Christi Barth, so I was ready for Hell of an Angel and Gideon's story in Hell of an Angel. This is a fun world and a perfect escape after a day's work.
Gideon is half-angel and all playboy. He has a reputation to uphold, but when he meets Eva, he's thrown off his game. I liked this about the story, and the subsequent collaboration that develops into something more intense. Eva is a dark angel, and Gideon doesn't even know what he's dealing with.I loved having Rhys and Maisy from Imperfect Angel in the story as well. There's some great male friendships here as well between Gideon and his fellow half-angels.
Overall, an interesting and entertaining paranormal romance in an interesting world.

Humorous with swashbuckling intrigue
I read the last book in this series and it was just as good! If you like a touch of paranormal among the humans with lots of humor, sweetness, outrageousness and fun plus intrigue, you will want to read this series. I personally cannot wait for book #3. Each book has watched the attraction, the “wooing” and the final acceptance of the couple in question. In this book the couple is Evangeline Thayer a 31yo Dark Angel and Gideon Durand 87yo but looks 30yo because he is a Nephilim angel. Eva is desperate to become a human. Why? That reason is cause for most of the book. Gideon makes her a deal: he’ll help her to collect the items she needs to become human if she’ll help him find out who is killing other Nephilim.
This author can write the most entertaining stories with just the right amount of passion of which there is a lot with only one explicit scene that I can remember. There is a twist at the end that just made this story even better. On to the next story of Zavier and Liss. I cannot wait! I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Entangled/NetGalley.

While I was reading "Hell of an Angel" by Christi Barth, I found the book to be a mixed bag. On one hand, the story offered a fresh and engaging take on supernatural romance. The dynamic between Eva and Gideon was undeniably adorable, and their transformation from enemies to lovers was well-executed.
The plot was another highlight, featuring the classic "save the world" element that adds an exciting layer to the story. I also appreciated the unique perspective on myths and lore surrounding gods and angels, which breathed new life into familiar themes.
Character development was a strong suit, with one of the main characters transitioning from a self-perceived weakness to realizing their true strength. This character arc added depth to the narrative and made the story more relatable.
The banter between the characters brought a sense of humor to the book, making it an enjoyable and lighthearted read. Furthermore, the inclusion of a wide variety of mythical creatures, including angels, demons, mermaids, alicorns, witches, and even the mention of werewolves, enriched the world and provided a diverse and captivating setting.
However, some aspects left me wanting more. While the story did contain some romance, I couldn't help but wish for more spicy romantic scenes. Unfortunately, there was only one steamy scene, and the others were merely mentioned without much detail, which was disappointing.
Additionally, I struggled to fully engage with the book at the beginning. It took some time for the story to capture my full attention, and I would advise other readers to stick with it, as it does get better as it progresses.
Overall, "Hell of an Angel" offered a charming and imaginative take on the supernatural romance genre. It had its moments of brilliance, but it also left me craving a bit more in the romance department. Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing how the characters evolve in the next book, and I believe there's potential for the series to deliver an even more compelling reading experience.

I really enjoyed the story and characters. I look forward to reading more of their adventures and lots more of their relationships.

When a mostly powerless dark angel raised by her aunt in Hell meets a Nephilim guarding humans from evil forces the Apocalypse may be nigh. Evangeline and Gideon start out striking sparks against each other negatively, but the flames between them quickly turn into attraction as they choose to work together to solve strange murders among the paranormal realm they live in.
I enjoyed the often funny situations these two found themselves in, as well as the twists and turns in the overall plot to fight off the end of the world. Their romance is excellent as they both reveal what they were hiding behind their defense measures.

Who knew? Apparently accountants and actuaries can came from He{{!
Evangeline is a boring, staid, middle of the road Actuary. She loves her job, calculating risks and helping companies. It beats her former life that's for sure - one that was in a place a little hotter than Buffalo! She escaped her own purgatory and made it to Buffalo - she has no intention in getting dragged back into the Demon/Angel fighting.
Fate, however, puts her into the path of Gideon. He and his fellow Nephilim were warrior Angels - now they're kind of Angelic bounty hunters. When they are told to work with Evie to keep the balance of power, Gideon wonders what he got himself into.
Gideon is about of an idiot when we first meet him, making assumptions and casting aspersions before he even meets Evie - and that's when he thinks she's human! But he does finally get his foot out of his mouth and earns some good guy points! I loved his camaraderie with his fellow Nephilim and their grudging working relationship with their former trainer.
There are some very emotional scenes dealing with bullying, ostracism & loss of a loved one. The smexy times were well placed and weren't over the top. The banter was snarky and witty and really zinged the story along.

Evangeline has a safe, boring life by design. Well, she did. Her latest job has taken her right back into a world that she's been trying very hard to leave behind forever, and has also placed her in the path of a distractingly gorgeous Nephilim.
Oh yes, and there's the slight issue of a potential apocalypse.
I'm really enjoying this series, and the world it depicts. Note that this is the second book, and reading the first one is strongly recommended as there's an ongoing intrigue (to put it mildly) that makes much more sense if you have the background. The story flows well, with plenty of action: I liked how it switches between the two parts of Eva and Gideon's deal, with the search for Eva's spell ingredients forming a bit of light relief while deepening the main characters' relationship. The best part, however, is the characterisation: all of them, both major and minor, are very well drawn with plenty of nuance and humour. I think my favourite is the interactions between Gideon, Rhys and Zavier, especially when they venture out of their comfort zone and try talking about feelings. At the end of the book there's a snippet of what's coming next, and I'm really looking forward to the next installment.

Hell of an Angel was a hell of a ride. It is the second book in the Unlocking His Heart Series. It may be read as a stand-alone. I am looking forward to the third book in the series. I “think” I know who it will be about. Lol
Evie and Gideon make a great couple. Their personalities are so different, yet they compliment each other perfectly. It was fun to see them bicker back and forth. I am all there for the snarky comments. Once they get past the pain of their respective pasts, their love story is able to move forward.
Perfect if you like
Enemies to Lovers
Slow build
Steam
Paranormal Romance
All the mythical creatures

This had Kosmic Karma written all over it
Evangeline and Gideon are ice to fire from the moment they meet
After she delivered him a very necessary attitude adjustment she figured that would be it
But no...
He had to go and "save her"
Now both of them are finding reasons to require the other's assistance
Even if they ruffle each other's feathers
This has a couple of plot lines that are running at the same time but interconnect - It can be read as a standalone but I honestly feel that reading the first book provides a stronger character connection
Especially with Gideon as he can come across as a bit immature or the complete playboy at times
There are moments that I wasn't sure they would come out the other side unscathed but don't fear they get their HEA
Just takes some work and a whole lot of patience
These two were perfect for each other
That whole opposites attract thing
Plenty of action and romance
Well-crafted characters and a solid storyline

This book is such a good devil / angel with a twist with rom com vibes and the banter and humor to match. I can honestly say I haven’t read one like this and I LOVE angel books. I’m so glad I got the chance to read this one. This was in 3rd pov but I personally don’t mind it because the story kept me interested. I am excited for book 3!

I was so excited when I saw Hell of an Angel on NetGalley because I didn't realize there would be more books in the universe of Imperfect Angel. Like Imperfect Angel, Hell of an Angel is a cute, fun, and sexy paranormal romcom. It can be read as a standalone (though I'd recommend reading Imperfect Angel first).
If you are generally a fan of paranormal romance or paranormal romcoms then I think you'll really like Hell of an Angel. I found the protagonist Evangeline far less cringey than I found the protagonist of Imperfect Angel. And while I almost DNF'd the book in Chapter 1 because of some mild workplace sexual harassment I wasn't sure if I should let go of, Gideon was a compelling character as well. I really liked learning about his own backstory and what made him into the person he is when we meet him in the book.
However, if you're going to get caught up in the nuts and bolts of the plot and world building, and trying to make sense of it is going to keep you from enjoying the fun, romantic aspects of the book, then I'd maybe skip this one. The plot, while there, really exists more to create action than intrigue or analysis. For me, it was simple and clear enough that I could let go of the parts that didn't make total sense or didn't seem to have a lot behind them. Additionally, some of the dialogue is occasionally a little cringey.
3.5 stars.
Thank you NetGalley and Entangled for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

If you love fantasy you will be totally delighted by this story. Evangeline was born in hell but has been living on earth. Gideon is half human half angel and tasked with the protection of humankind along with his “brothers”. It is an exciting and very entertaining trip as they race against time to save the world from destruction. The dialogue is witty and at times funny. The characters are gregarious and fun. Readers will thoroughly enjoy this page turning story and will want to add it to their shelf. There are surprises to be had before Evangeline and Gideon admit their love for each other.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review. First of all I want to thank Entangled for allowing me to real this and say that I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The story had the potential to be fantastic. The theme of angels and demons, heaven and hell is always fascinating. However, for me, the book failed to deliver.
I know there will be a sequel but there was so left to explain. After doing some research I found out that there was another book previous to this one and that there will be one after. Each one features a different couple. The author says each book is a standalone but, in my opinion, I would understand more of the story and be more attached to the characters if I had read the firts book.
One thing that didnt do it for me was the writing. I honestly think it was confusing.
I found certain chapters too confusing, for example, there were parts where there were many characters speaking almost at the same time, which made it hard for me to follow the dialogue. Also some comparisons in the dialogue seemed strange and some comic-relief jokes seemed out of place.
The fact it is a 3rd POV didn't help either. In my opinion a dual POV would be better, so we could see the main characters sides separately. It's kinda confusing reading both POV in the same chapter.
Neverthless, I liked the main characters (Gideon and Eva). They were cute together and their dynamic was good, although I think I should feel more connected with them than I actually did.

Hell of an Angel is book two in the Unlocking His Heart Series by Christi Barth.
After devouring book two I’m jumping onto Amazon after I write this review and buying Imperfect Angel.
Hell of an Angel is a cute and wonderful paranormal romance. The book's well-developed characters and amazing plot created an enchanting reading experience.
The characters were witty, smart and such fun to be around.
I really liked the world building also. The supernatural elements of the story played out so well.
A delightful, humorous and entertaining story.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Entangled: Amara for the opportunity to read this ahead of its publication date in return for my honest review.

This was a cute, fast rom-com that I enjoyed greatly! Evangeline is a dark angel (or so she thinks?) and Gideon is a Nephilim. They team up to try to reach goals they have (independently of one another), but wind up finding common ground in an attempt to thwart the apocalypse. This book had humor, heart, and plenty of spice. Both main characters were flawed but loveable. Gideon appears to be your typical cocky playboy, but Evangeline quickly breaks down that image to get to the real man, who has been heartbroken in the past an built walls to protect himself from future hurt. Gideon sees Evangeline as strong and capable, something which she has never experienced in her life as a dark angel with no powers. These two are powerfully drawn to one another and it was fun to watch their journey to each other. Along the way, they discover a plot to bring about the end of the world, which adds a bit of mystery and excitement to this fantasy rom-com. I discovered midway that this book is actually the second in a trilogy, and I will definitely be going back and reading the first and third books! So fun! (And just the right amount of spicy, too!)

I really enjoyed reading this book. I felt the author had a unique take on the world they built as well as the character types. I enjoy fantasy and I have yet to come across a similar angel/demon book. While this was out of my normal for what I read I was hooked from the beginning. We jumped feet first into the story without unnecessary world building due to the common understanding of heaven/hell/gods/demons. I also really loved the relatability of the characters and relationships that they build. I totally think this book succeeds as a standalone. Eva/Evangeline just wants to be human and toss her powers aside, since the powers she has made her life hell in Hell. When she happens to enter a business meeting with Gideon, Rhys, and Zavier only to find out later they are half human/half angel. Eva needs their help with a spell and they need her help to save the world in exchange. Relationships are built along the way with a few bumps in the road and a touch of spice.

This was such a fun quick read! Also I totally had no idea it was the second book in a series but following separate characters. Even after figuring that bit out, it was fine to read on its own. The characters were super fun and different from the typical romcom characters and the story flowed well. Once I got hooked I finished the book in one sitting 🤣❤️

Thank you Entangled and Net Galley for the ARC of this book.
This was a cute book. I was a bit through it before I realized I missed a whole book before it though It was labeled as a stand alone in the series so it wasn't to hard to follow along. I enjoyed the story and the characters made me laugh. It did take me a bit to get use to the whole world saving but make it less serious since this is a rom-com but I didn't mind it all to much. over all Christi Barth wrote a great story and relatable characters and I would recommend this book.

“Safe never got you anywhere. Life’s more interesting the more bold you get.”
What a fun adventure! A paranormal romance with Lucifer’s granddaughter, a half-Angel, half-human and a cast of supportive friends turned family.
Evangeline is determined to complete a spell to take away her powers as a dark Angel and become fully human. She wants to lead a quiet, boring life full of numbers as an actuary. She did not sign up to get swept away (literally) by Gideon and pulled into his adventures to save the world. Neither of them is looking for love, but through a series of adventures together they prove that the heart wants what it wants, regardless of what side of Heaven or Hell you came from.
This was a cute adventure of a romcom. Reminded me of Gwenda Bond’s Not Your Average Hot Guy duology! Quick read if you’re looking for paranormal fun and gooey love stories.
Missy and Rhys story comes first in the series, but this can be read as a stand-alone.
Thanks to Entangled and Netgalley for this ARC! Hell of an Angel is on shelves October 23, 2023. My opinions are my own.
