I was drawn in by the title and the cover art. It was playful and definitely caught my eye. As I was reading, I felt like I was missing a little information (not enough that the book didn't make sense, just a little background for a couple characters). So I decided to look up the book and found out it was book #2 in the series. (I will be hunting down book 1!) We start off with Evangeline, a take no crap lead female character. I instantly loved her. Very quickly we meet Gideon, a cocky, egotistical business man. The banter between the two had me thinking about the movie The Cutting Edge. I thought it was funny that Evangeline was able to confound Gideon. Nothing is as it seems! There were twists I didn't see coming, it kept me on my toes. I don't want to ruin the ride by giving away too much. I highly recommend getting this book (and the other 2 books that are in this series). I will be checking out other books by this author. I can't wait for book 3!

*Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an E-ARC of this story, I appreciate it.
Angels, demons, heaven and hell, it all depends on who you’re speaking to, such as Evangeline, who happened to be a dark Angel. Living amongst humans, Evangeline went about her life as usual, working hard as an actuary and nothing too exciting. When a new client came along, Evangeline met, Gideon, a handsome yet also very cocky man who didn’t make the greatest first impression on her. Gideon was known as a playboy going from women to women, charming, and flirty. Gideon and Eva weren’t on the same page, and yet one night changed everything when they found out what they really were… a dark Angel and a half Angel. Two unlikely individuals meeting and seemingly finding their way as they navigated through paranormal creatures, different worlds, and a building attraction between them.
This was paranormal romance involving angels, demon, heaven, hell, supernatural creatures and more. This story focused on Evangeline “Eva” and Gideon as they joined forces in order to help one another out in their own individual problems. For Eva, she was hoping to find all the necessary items in order to create a spell that would make her a complete human, whereas Gideon and his friends were trying to solve the mystery of who was killing Keepers, and other angels. A little bit of mystery, secrets, and the paranormal to keep Gideon and Eva on their toes.
I got the sense that this was probably part of a series especially since the other characters mentioned seemed to have already established relationships. I wasn’t confused while reading, but it still would have been better for me personally had I read the first book, especially since I liked the characters and wanted to know more about them. For instance, I wanted to know more about Rhys and Maisy and how they ended up together, plus what was Zavier’s deal with Maisy’s friend, Liss. Despite not having read the first book, I still found it easy to follow along, and besides the main story was centered on Gideon and Eva so it was fine.
Not going to lie, there were moments I found myself getting distracted while reading. Could be that this was a “right book, wrong time” type of situation, or I just wasn’t vibing with the story all that much. I’m in no way saying this book was terrible, in fact there were some good parts about the story I enjoyed, I just felt like it didn’t hold my attention all the way through. I liked the characters, but they didn’t hold a strong connection to me. I liked Eva and Gideon, but I wasn’t obsessed with them. If anything, I was most curious about Liss and Zavier. Towards the middle/almost ending, my interest was piqued, but again, I wasn’t going wild over the revelations and things that ended up happening, it was just fine to me.
Overall, I would say for me personally this story didn’t hit the mark as I originally had hoped for. Going into this story, I was hoping I was going to love the story and the characters. I would say that I liked the characters, but in more of a general sense that they were ok. Maybe for others this book was phenomenal, but sadly for me I just didn’t feel the same while reading. There were parts of the story I enjoyed, and some aspects to the characters that I found interesting. Would I say that this was a book I would recommend to others? Probably not. I feel like since this book is part of a series, I would have potentially enjoyed this story more had I read the first book (I didn’t realize this was a sequel until halfway through reading this book). Eva and Gideon were ok, I liked some parts of their romance, but if anything I was most interested in Zavier and Liss with the whole tension they had throughout the story. This wasn’t a bad story, it just ended up falling flat for me which I was disappointed in.

WOW, Eva and Guideon are really sweet,
I loved the first meeting, Eva did not care who Gideon was and she did not mind to give him a piece of her mind, this was probably my favorite interaction.
Guideon is stumped after meeting Eva, their further interaction when he discovers who she is are marvelous. They make an amazing couple.
About the plot, really interesting but I think that it needs a bit more, all 3 books are making one story which has a lot of potential, but the singular book plot is falling short. I kept expecting for the amazing reveal/ fight and when it happened it did not fill my expectation. I'll definitely be reading the next book. Looking forward to see how everything ties together.

Hell of an Angel was a super cute fluffy read. It wasn’t a deep book that evokes deep emotions. It’s a beach read (or more appropriately since it’s Autumn, it’s a fun book to cuddle up by a fireplace and drink hot cocoa while flipping through the pages). The authors style of writing is very conversational, the characters are in constant banter, and overall it’s the kind of book you can put down to finish chores but you still want to pick back up later to see how the story plays out. I was unaware it was a second-in-a-series book until deep into it, and by no means was it necessary to read the first book in order to enjoy, but I definitely want to finish the full series now. Also, merman spice…weirdly hot, who knew?

I definitely should have read the first novel however it does well as a stand-alone. I found some parts a little muddy as a result but it did t stop me from enjoying this fun, easy read with all the banter you expect from a rom-com with an enemies to lovers trope.
This fast paced, paranormal romance follows Evangeline, an Angel who believes her powers are a curse, leaves hell for a life on earth. She meets Gideon at work and the story takes off. They quickly catch feelings, and while Evangeline would rather throw her powers away, Gideon believes her powers could help him.
The comedic moments are absolutely perfect. The characters individually are so starkly different and that’s refreshing that she broke the generic cookie cutter mold. This paranormal romance is a perfect spooky season read for those like the lighter hearted books in lieu of the darker side.

A stand-alone, but second in the series.
I haven’t read the 1st book and it did well enough for me get on fine without reading it. But I do believe I would have enjoyed the story more and been more immersed in it, if I had read the 1st book first. A few blurry areas that I think would probably be clear if I had.
At first the change of pov confused me, I had to go back and reread to make sure the pov was Evie or Gideon until I understood the change. But I did enjoy their dual povs.
A fun enemies to lovers with all the banter.
Good spooky season read.

I give this book 3 1/2⭐️ it was okay not great but not bad loved that it was angels with romance and some adventure

This unique rom com starring angels and nephilim was so fun. I absolutely loved that it was duel POV. The story is fast paced and well written. The banter was enjoyable and the chemistry between Eva and Gideon was was GREAT.
I will say, this book is advertised as a standalone (as it’s the second book in a series) but it makes more sense to read book one before hand.

This was an entertaining and fun read!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hell of An Angel was like a rom-com starring Zoey Deschanel meets Sabrina the Teenage Witch (circa 1990s) meets quirky Avengers.
The book kept a fast pace and had a very quickly developed love story. It was a unique story, as I have not read any romantic comedies involving all of Heaven and Hell’s cast of characters, as well as mer-men and Pegasus.
This was a fun and entertaining read. A great book if you’re looking a whimsical and quirky romance.

This is a cute urban paranormal romcom.
It follows our MFC Evangeline who is a dark angel, who is good, and decided to leave Hell and live on Earth. Evangeline moved to Buffalo because she was tired of being bullied in Hell for possessing a power that she deems a curse.
Then there is our MMC Gideon who is half human and half angel, making him Nephilim and protector of humans.
Evangeline works a job as an actuary and that’s how her path crosses with Gideon and his business partners (also Nephilim friends).
They both discover each other’s true identities and Gideon decides that Evengeline’s powers might actually help him fight an unknown evil on the lose. But all Evangeline wants to do is get rid of her powers.
All of the characters are fun and have great banter.
The chemistry between Evangeline and Gideon is instantaneous and definitely leads to some 🌶️🌶️
Will Evangeline help the Nephilims fight the evil on Earth or will she succeed and get rid of her powers and become human once and for all?
Overall a fun read. HOWEVER, although this book is sold as a standalone, reading her other book Imperfect Angel first makes more sense . As there seems to be references from Imperfect Angel that will make Hell of an Angel make more sense.

This was so good! The author did a fabulous job writing this so it could be read as a stand alone if you have not read the previous book.
I loved the paranormal romance with comedy. I was laughing throughout the book and enjoyed it all.
Some of my favorite tropes are featured in this book such as enemies to lovers. And they were really well done.
All in all this was a fantastic read and I recommend it to anyone who loves paranormal romance and romantic comedy.
Thank you to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for allowing me to read this ahead of release in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was provided an ARC of this title for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was not my favorite Entangled Publishing title that I’ve had the pleasure thus far of reading. I’ve tried and failed to pinpoint why, but I struggled my way through the entirety of this.
I, like others who hadn’t read the previous book, struggled as well with some of the references to the previous book, despite that this could be read as a stand-alone. This is totally on me for not reading the first book first, and I think I may have enjoyed it more if I had.
I will say that there was a lot of comedic relief, so I’d call this a good paranormal rom-com for the upcoming spooky season. Just not my particular cup of tea.

I love a good paranormal romance as much as the next girlie, and Hell of an Angel was a perfect enemies-to-lovers read as a pallete cleanser!
This was such a pleasant read, and Christi's writing and fun and witty, and the whole banter and bickering completed this.
Thank you Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC!

I really really liked this one, the contrast between the main characters personalities was so well done! They complimented each other while being so different.
There stories were also really touching! The romance between these two was top tier!
This book had all my favorite elements!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC!

Evangeline is originally a dark Angel from hell, but on earth, she’s an actuary. When meeting with a client, she meets the awful Gideon, a half-angel who she can’t stand. It turns out that bigger things are happening and they may need each other to achieve their goal of stopping an apocalypse.
Hell of an Angel delivered on what I was hoping for - a fun read with snark, good vs evil, and enemies to lovers. Sometimes you need a book you can kick back, escape into, have pure fun with and this book is that.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book. The review expresses my personal opinions only.

I really liked this book. It is fresh and exciting. The characters were memorable, witty, and relatable. I would love to learn more about the backstories of some of the characters. The pace of the book was good. It flowed wonderfully. There were surprises here and there as well as some great romance and spice. I am happy to learn there is a preview at the end of the book to the next book in this series.
Evangeline Thayer is a regular girl working as an actuary calculating risks for companies, or so she wishes to be…regular, that is. She lives in Buffalo but was born and raised in Hell as a dark angel. Unlike the other dark angels she has no power except for one that she deems as a curse. One that causes her to be bullied and emotionally abused. On earth she passes for a human whose only desire is to lead a safe and boring life. She can do this with a nearly impossible spell.
Gideon Durand and his business partners are looking for an actuary for their business. Fate brings them together when Eva becomes their actuary. She finds out they are actually Nephilim, half angel half human, here to save humans from the dangerous demons. Gideon learns of Eva’s unwanted power and realizes how it can be very useful to his and his trio of Nephilims’ cases. As they begin to learn about each other in a world full of demons, full angels, fallen angels, dark angels, and even the devil himself, Eva and Gideon strike a deal to help each other out. Little did Gideon or Eva know how intertwined their lives would be- or how their partnership could save the world.

Gideon is not looking forward to the boring meeting with their new actuary, but it turns out to be anything but. Eva is hiding on earth, having escaped her childhood in hell. When she meets Gideon and his friends she soon realises they are not as they seem. It turns out they can both help each other with something. Gideon thinks Eva is beautiful but doesn’t understand why she wants the change that she does. Eva thinks he is a player and wants nothing to do with him. The more time they spend together trying to help stop war between heaven and hell, the closer they become. They see the real people they keep hidden from the world. I loved how strong and independent Eva became and how loving and caring Gideon really was. The action added a nice touch and I enjoyed seeing the characters from the previous book and a little glimpse in to what will come in book 3.

Prior to starting Hell of an Angel, I didn't know it was the second book in the Unlocking His Heart series and even though it can be read as a standalone I still wish I had read the first book. I will say the author does a good job with the worldbuilding and giving a rundown on the other characters but it did take a bit to understand the plot.
Evangeline is a dark angel who grew up in Hell and left to become an actuary residing in NY where she won't be bullied for being "powerless" and all she wants is to find a spell that will make her human. Enter Gideon the playboy fallen half-angel who can help her become mortal as long as she helps him hunt down a serial killer.
To be honest I didn't like either of the MCs, they both annoyed me and I felt like the chemistry wasn't there just insta-lust. It bothered me that Gideon for most of the story just wanted to get in Evie's pants, it felt wrong and childish and didn't feel right given the plot of the story. They were exhausting to read, with Gideon being so full of himself and Evie being over-the-top snarky. I can't say I'm entirely rooting for them. Their dialogue was off and I felt disconnected.
I did love the trio's relationship with each other and their banter, I will be reading the first book for Rhys and the next book for Z.
Action and danger were minimal but there are twists I didn't see coming. It's a fun and cute lighthearted paranormal romance. I'm going to pick up the first book and see if this changes my view since that was entirely my fault. I would pick this up if you are a fan of enemies-to-lovers about angels and demons and other magical creatures.
Thank you Netgalley, Entangled Publishing, and Christi Barth for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

Evangeline Thayer is a dark angel, who has given up Hell and is now living on Earth, working as an actuary.
Gideon Durand is a Nephelium, and his mission is life to protect humans. Evangeline first impression of Gideon is not very impressive, but with an unknown evil on the loose, they decide to work together to neutralize it.
This was a fun read. It was sassy and sweet. I enjoyed how Evangeline stood up for herself no matter who is in front. The banter between Gideon and Evangeline was fun and their chemistry hot. There were a few twists and turns that kept things interesting.
Overall an entertaining read.

Thanks to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for an ARC of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I was looking forward to reading Gideon's story. He's the playboy of the Nephilium, but really he's hiding some deep pain behind his carefree facade. Eva is a straight-forward actuary with no tolerance for BS. I actually really liked both of their characters but the romance just didn't work as well for me as in the previous book.
The enemies to lovers trope didn't really apply here as the Eva and Gideon (although natural enemies) don't hate each other, they just don't immediately get along. And then, while trying to help Eva and solve a mystery, Gideon spends a good bit of time trying to get into her pants, which didn't gel for me.
The action was good though, and I did like the banter between the 3 Nephilium - I liked their relationship with each other.
I did enjoy it but not as much as the first.
