Four stars
This is a fun, historical romance with a ton of biblical references. The smut is hot, and the author does a fabulous job of conveying emotions through words without saying the word. “Her words impaled him, quivering like an arrow freshly shot into a target, a target in his chest that beat with deep thuds.” WOW. What a line.
So Hannah goes off and gets herself kidnapped by a man trying to save his sister. She’s a 30 year old virgin, who has 4 hot and sexy brothers called the Four Horsemen. The Biblical references throughout a romance novel are interesting. I felt that this portion was very well done.
Tropes:
-One Horse
-Abduction
-Honor
-Enemies to Lovers
I gave this four stars because I didn’t enjoy seeing “Crash!” And “Blast!” multiple times and the Scottish words were very confusing at first and hard to read. I would have liked to see Hannah hold out for a bit longer. I think she gave in pretty quickly, but overall, I really enjoyed the character development.
Thank you NetGalley and Heather McCollum for the opportunity to read this book! I will be reading your other books in this series!
Highland Surrender, Sons of Sinclair Book #5 the 4 Horseman by Heather McCollum
Wow. Heather McCollum has done it again. I have read other series by her but not this one, but after reading this one I must go back to read the others and find out about their adventures.
The Royal House of Denmark, Sophie (mother of Queen Anne) demands Erik Halverson, leader of the Wolf make his way to Scotland and finout the Horseman weakest link and bring her to her court, in exchange for his sister who she has kidnapped.
ERIC is intreed by Hannah, the Sinclair sistwr whom is in fact most loved and their weakest link. She likes his streingth and wants a child of her own and decides he will be the one. He uses the opportunity to kidnap her. Erik realize quckly Hannah was well trained by her brothers. She stands up to Erik never showing fear. As they sail, they realize Trix and Libby has stolen away on the ship, and the adventures begain.
For Eric, family is everything, as he grows closer to Hannah how can he save his sister and not lose Hannah.
I put this book down so many times because I didn't want to finish it. It was a quick, great read.
Hannah made me sad. But also proud because she’s so strong and stubborn and smart. She knows her head and heart and she’s not afraid to break tradition to finally get what she wants so badly. But maybe Erik isn’t the best choice to try for a future with…because he is far from what he seems. And when betrayals are so swift and painful, is it worth even trying to love?
This is a wonderful way to round out the Sinclair siblings. No one seems to expect Hannah to be the warrior she is. At least, no one but Bas and the wives. Erik eventually catches a clue, but I honestly adored Bas even more for his unwavering support of his sister. He stood by and waited to either boost or catch her as she rose or fell and didn’t judge. Instead, he helped to soothe every ruffled feather and to find a path forward.
Sometimes, surrender is stronger than anything else. And sometimes, even warriors learn lessons they never saw coming. Erik sure seemed to learn his, and it served to find a forever with Hannah as his reward!
It ends with the story of Hannah and Eric the saga of the Sinclairs, the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse defending a clan in 1500s Scotland.
I grew fond of the family and I think I will miss them, this also, I felt, was one of the best books of the 5 in the series.
I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
Norse warrior Erik Halverson is under orders of the royal house of Denmark to sail to Scotland, find his enemy’s weakest link, and abduct her. The mistake was thinking the Sinclair lass would be meek. From the moment her four brothers took control of their clan, Hannah Sinclair has learned to defend herself and she isn’t about to give in. Passion is inevitable, but can a war be prevented...?
This is the fifth and final book in the Sons of Sinclair series. While each story can technically stand alone, the family is highly involved.
I really loved the last book, but this one just didn't strike the same cord for me. Hannah loves her family and her clan, but she also felt lonely as the overprotected sister in a powerful plan. She wanted a child of her own and thought foreigner Erik was her chance to make it happen. I struggled to see how they would develop a deeper connection after he kidnapped her, but there were some smart plot choices that made it plausible. In the end, the romance felt secondary to the political plot.

Highland Surrender
Sons of Sinclair Book 5
Heather McCollum
This book has it all great characters, a Scottish Highlander, romance, a strong heroine, and a fantastic plot. This book stands well alone, but I recommend reading them in the correct order.
Hannah Sinclair was first introduced in the 4th book in the series.
The Royal House of Denmark demands Erik Halverson make his way to Scotland and kidnap Hannah and he succeeds. Erik had no idea what he was getting into! Hannah was well trained by her brothers. She stands up to Erik and defends herself. Erik and Hannah clash and yet there are intense sparks surrounding them. He doesn’t know what to do with her and yet he wants her. Hannah doesn’t want or need a man, but she would like to have a baby and Erik would be the perfect candidate.
Kudos to author Heather McCollum for a great plot, fantastic characters, a hot sizzling romance and a series we don’t want to end.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a review copy of Highland Surrender. My reviews are my unbiased opinion.
Hannah – Yes, finally gets her story! Love - not so important! A babe – she needs a man! The enemy – why not! Find love along the way – of course! She just does not know he is the enemy when she picks Erik. Yet, something told her he and his friends were not as they seemed. She just knew it. Does that stop our Hannah – never! Loved this journey and it was a journey. Only someone who does not know the Sinclair family would kidnap the sister of the Four Horsemen. The series has been fantastic to see each of the brothers grow through their father’s destiny for them. Hannah learned right alongside her brothers about war and winning. Erik is just as strong as her brothers, but he has a lot to learn about how to love and surrender his heart to Hannah.
Highland Surrender can certainly be read as a stand-alone. Having read the Sons of Sinclair series in order was perfect! This is just a fantastic series. Side note – I loved Trix and Libby! Those two mischievous mites need their own books as part of the Sinclair clan.
This fifth and presumably final Sinclair book is the story of the only Sinclair daughter, Hannah, and Norseman Erik. I only read the previous book (Bàs and Shana), and I really loved it, so I was looking forward to this one. However, it didn't quite hit the mark.
I liked Hannah well enough, and I didn't hate Erik as a character. As the male main character, however, meh. He too easily keeps key info from Hannah and lets her walk away too often. I suppose it was kind of tricky for the author, who has created four invincible Sinclair main male characters, to introduce another invincible male in Erik. Someone—or several someones—has to give in, and MMCs in successful historical Highland romances typically don't do that. That said, I found myself rooting solely for the Sinclairs.
One thing I either loved or hated—still trying to figure out which—is the decidedly campy way the Four Horsemen and the Wolf Warriors are portrayed. When reading Bàs' book I recall thinking the whole biblical ritual with the green horses and spooky Horsemen quotes was a little bit cheesy, especially as each brother had shed his mystery in favor of a wife and family. In this novel, the author seems to give the cheese a nod, tossing in banter among Erik and his men about needing a similar shtick (Yiddish mind). I truly appreciated this humor, though I wonder if it undermines the previous novels in some way.
Another thing I didn't fully love was the whole reason for Erik to kidnap Hannah. I didn't buy the whole Dowager-Queen Sophie bit at all—it seemed forced—and the Chancellor was character who didn't belong.
Fans of the series will be thrilled at how much page time the brothers and their wives get. For me, I only had Bàs' story being me, so I appreciated getting to know the other three men abs their wives better. The best characters by far, however, are Libby and Trix.
Okay, all that said, I'm still giving the book 3 stars. My enjoyment level was lower, I'm afraid, but in the greater scheme of things (i.e., the hundreds of books I've read this year), this book was well written and made a decent if not exciting read.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
5 Stars! Heather McCollum did not disappoint with Hannah’s story! This is the 5th book in ‘The Sons of Sinclair’ series and can be read as a standalone but this is such a great series, I’d recommend reading all of it in order. I read book 2 first, then went back and read book 1, then books 3, 4 & 5 and loved every single one.
The main characters are Hannah Sinclair, sister to “the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse” and Erik Halverson, leader of the Wolf Warriors of Norway. I loved both of them and also loved getting updates on the past main characters and all the secondary characters, especially Trix & Libby. I laughed a few times at things they said and did. If you enjoy historical Scottish romance, you’d really enjoy this authors works. This book has lying, kidnapping, fighting, a few hot ‘sexy times’ scenes, brotherly love, with an HEA ending. I love how all the females in Heather McCollum’s books are strong women and not the weak damsels in distress. This is probably my absolute favorite series that I’ve ever read and I read a lot, so that’s saying something! I highly recommend this series! Trust me on this, you won’t be sorry!
*I received this book at no charge & I voluntarily left this review.*
It feels like I’ve been waiting for Hannah to get her own story since the start of the first Sons of Sinclair book, and it’s finally here! Not only does Hannah finally get a hero of her own, but we get to see her use all the skills and knowledge she’s acquired from watching her brothers train to be Horsemen and learned from her fierce sisters in law. We also get to watch Trix and Libby be brave and troublesome, which they do so well.
Hannah and Erik both want to use the other for their own gains and end up at crossed purposes. They both find ways to mislead the other without actually lying, which only adds to a lack of trust between them. But as with any good romance, love prevails and they are both able to get what they truly want which ends up being each other.
I throughly enjoyed this book! And while it wrapped up the Sons of Sinclair series beautifully, I hope Heather brings us back when Trix and Libby are all grown up!
All of Hannah Sinclair's brothers fallen in love and married. And they've all started families. Hannah doesn't long for love but she does long for a babe of her own, and she determines that Erik, the blue-eyed Norse visitor is perfect baby daddy material. The first half of the book is great as Hannah and Erik get to know what another and engage in playful banter. It's cute when Hannah seeks advice on men from her sisters-in-law. The second half of the book is also great, as the four horsemen and Erik go on rescue missions to find their sisters. I just wish that the romance that started in the first half of the book continued to the second half. At one point, one of them asked themselves if they loved the other, then nothing happened, then boom, oh yes, I'm in love. Okay... The romance is so well-developed at the beginning, and this would have been my favorite book of the series if it played out more.
Overall, the book entertaining and made me want to re-read the series, except for Josh's book because who would want to revisit him?? The others brothers were so perfect, and I can see how Shaw Sinclair, another incredible hero (Highland Outlaw), descends from them. So sad to see this series end. Heather McCollum is an incredible writer, and I can't wait to see what she creates next!
Highland Surrender by Heather McCollum is such a wonderful read. I am over the moon for being able to read Hannah's story after her brother's beautiful story. It's feel I've been watching a movie with every single well written scenes.
I love Hannah's character. She has a unique strong female character. Despite being protected by her brother, she's very determined to have her own way including seducing Erik even though he is an enemy.
This is a very unique and interesting story about enemy turn to lover. Despite having issue between Hannah and Erik, reader are able to feel the sexual tension between them. Even though the peace been threatened between Sinclair brother and Norse Warrior, the author are generous with a little bit of humor. That's make the story fun to read.
This book have a little bit of suspense, angst, actions packed, high sexual tension, hot spicy scenes, heart breaking moments and tears. I'll definitely be waiting for more books from Heather McCollum and I'm looking forward to read the next story perhaps about Sten and Nial, the Norse Warrior.
An exciting book with a lovely romance.
I really liked the plot. I do think you could read this as a stand alone but would recommend the series.
The characters had good chemistry and I really liked their banter.
Would definitely recommend.
With his family’s honor on the line, Norse warrior Erik Halverson has no choice but to follow the orders of the royal house of Denmark. Now he must follow his destiny—and royal command—to sail to Scotland, find his enemy’s weakest link, and abduct her. Their mistake, of course, was thinking the Sinclair lass wouldn’t fight back.
From the moment her four brothers took control of their clan, Hannah Sinclair has learned to stand tall and defend herself. So when a big, brawny, and admittedly handsome warrior tries to abduct her, she isn’t about to give in. And the more he tries, the more she’s determined to make it as hard as possible...and enjoy it all the while.
Now Norway’s greatest warrior has a Highland hellcat on his hands, and Odin help him, he can’t resist her. But with the brutal Sinclair brothers coming after them, Erik is out of options. War is inevitable. And when a man is forced to choose between duty and passion, only one will win…
‘Highland Surrender’ is book 5 in the Sons of Sinclair series but can be read as a standalone.
There is a little dictionary for the foreign words used in the book.
The author has done a lot of research and uses this in the book to blend it with the story.
The pace is a bit slow; there are lots and lots of discussions about what to do next.
Libby and Trix are definitely the stars in this story; they are fierce, fearless and funny little girls:
“Once we are all together, nothing here will stop us from seeking revenge on you and your men.”
“Wolf Warriors,” Trix called. “The fiercest fighting men of Norway.”
“Then the Sinclair Horsemen seek revenge on the Wolf Warriors.” Bàs said the name of Erik’s army wryly as if the title lacked any weight. “Wolves eat horses,” Libby pointed out, nodding as she lifted onto her toes to lean over the water.
Thank you Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for providing an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Heather McCollum's flair of internal dialogue and realizations for both her main characters takes us full force from the first page and carries us to the end. I have read this twice and still love it! Really good story line!.
Highland Surrender grabbed my attention from its opening page, weaving an enthralling narrative that held me spellbound throughout. The story's captivating cast of characters, coupled with its scintillating romance, rendered it utterly irresistible, leaving me unable to put it down.
