A lot of "self-help" authors manage to sound cloying and so far from genuine that it ends up being irritating to read their books. But like everything else that Tabitha Brown does, "I Did a New Thing" captures the beloved essence of the author's truthful and genuine spirit, her kindness, and her real delight in helping others to find their joy. Her unique voice is present in every word, and it feels as though she is sitting right there with the reader (who honestly cannot stop smiling the whole time), guiding them gently through the book. What a gift Ms. Tab has, and if there is anything positive that came out of 2020 and the COVID quarantines, it is that she was finally given the platform she deserves. And this book, like the emergence of Ms. Tab as America's Mom, is, as Ms. Tab herself would say, Very Good.
