I think this one relies a bit too much in the idea of being quirky. The author intrusions, while initially charming, become tiresome. The gimmick of one falsehood is obvious and only works once.

This is a hilarious and informative children's book about volcanoes and Iceland in general. It is written with so much humour it is fun to read for children and adults alike. There's one thing in the book that proves to be not true and once it's revealed it's so funny.

This is a story of how the author's grandfather and his friend explored Surtsey, a newly formed volcanic island back in 1967 and apart from being funny it's also really informative both about volcanoes and Icelandic culture.

The illustrations are so perfect! I really loved the illustrator's approach to the vibrant palette that despite using a lot of colors still feels as one that perfectly grabs the atmosphere of volcanic activity. I really loved the cute faces of all the hills and volcanoes. Also, all the small details are great, with the little trolls in the map and the Icelandic staves on the wallpaper.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, illustrator and publisher for providing an ARC.

This book is brilliant! By far, one of the best children's books I have read this year!

The author tells the story of his grandfather, who was stranded on a newly formed volcanic island in Iceland in the 1960's. This tale is based on a true story and is retold with great humour by the author, whose commentary is unique, fun and informative . It is so well written and includes information about Icelandic culture, volcanoes and Norse mythology which is really interesting.

While children will love hearing this story, adults will also enjoy reading it. I absolutely loved it and I am sure it will be one I share in the classroom with my kids! Highly recommend - definitely one of my top reads of the year, if not the best!

An informative, quirky way to tell a true story. Not only do we get to read about a man’s adventure on a volcano, you will also get to learn more about volcanoes, Iceland, and its mythology. With colorful illustrations and a bit of a mystery, I wasn’t able to guess what wasn’t true, this is an excellent book.

I very much enjoyed this nonfiction picture book about exploring (and accidentally becoming stranded) on a newly forming island off the coast of Iceland. I loved the tone the author set while narrating his family's store - factual and funny! I loved the beautiful illustrations. I loved all the information about Iceland, their culture, and volcanic science that was packed into the story. This will make a fantastic and super fun read-aloud! Definitely a must buy for libraries and one I will be recommending in the future!

I really liked this! Awesome science/nature book with a touch of humor. I had heard of this volcanic island before but not about some of the first people to explore it. Very interesting.

Here’s a fun adventure book intended for children, but this adult reader had a blast reading it, too. The humor used by the author greatly enhanced his already-excellent story about his grandfather, volcanoes, Icelandic culture and Norse Mythology. The illustrations were vibrant. I wish there were more books like this which young people and their adults could share together in laughter and learning.

Stranded! is a hilarious account of the author's grandfather visiting the then-brand-new island of Surtsey in the 1960s, a volcanic island off the coast of Iceland. The story takes us through grandpa's trip, getting stuck on the island longer than they planned, and their magical rescue. The illustrations are so much fun, and the humor is delightful! Everyone should read this book! 🌋😂

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!

Stranded is a great picture book that is perfect for fans of the I Survived series. It has a catchy hook and narrative text. The author’s anecdotal commentary throughout make it fun to read. I plan to share it with my 4th graders who are studying how volcanoes form. I think they will be highly interested in Evar’s survival story and it will lead to some great inquiry about individuals who study volcanic activity. The end pages are filled with additional questions and answers too. I recommend adding it to your request list at your local library or purchasing a copy for your classroom.

This is my fav children’s book that I’ve read so far this year. I’m so excited about it.

The book is quick, informative and fun with unique and interesting illustrations.

The narration in the book was different from anything I’ve ever read and I loved the continuity about something in the book not being true and when you get to the end and find out what wasn’t true you laugh and be like WOW WHAT A STORY.

Highly recommend this book.
